No Mercy by Cheyenne McCray

Run

Over twenty years ago, when she was just a teenager, Belle ran from everything she knew to escape her abusive stepfather. She left behind the boy she loved and a much-loved circle of friends. Even if Dylan could begin to forgive her, what she has kept hidden from him could still ruin any future she might have with him. The secret hangs over her head while she falls in love with him all over again.

Reunion

Dylan has never gotten over Belle running away all those years ago. When Nate, one of their Circle of Seven childhood friends, is found dead, Belle and Dylan are drawn back together. It’s not long before he realizes he has a second chance to make her his.

Resolve

When a dangerous drug cartel starts targeting the Circle of Seven friends, Dylan must use all his federal law enforcement training and contacts to stay one step ahead of the cartel. He must solve the clues Nate left behind before all of them end up dead.

This is the first story that I have read in this series. The story is fast paced and well developed. I really liked the fact that the characters had more elaborate back stories, but that you didn't feel like you were ever playing catch up. McCray did a good job at keeping the reader caught up, without it feeling like you were reading history.

Belle is running. She's running from her past and her present. When her good friend dies suddenly, she has to come back to a small town that she hates, but to the people whom she loves. It's a hard concept for her to get around – coming back to a place she despises and missing those people who she loves, but has neglected to keep in contact with.

Dylan is trying to figure out why his friend took his own life. Nate was one of the friends that he kept in contact with and there was no indication that Nate was suicidal. Dylan's job makes him suspicious of the circumstances, but with all of their friends coming together, he has other things to worry about... he's about to see Belle again.

Together, Belle and Dylan figure out their past and hash out what happened. They are also on the run from some mystery person who is intent on killing everyone in their close circle of friends. With two more deaths among their circle of seven friends, Dylan and Belle have to work closely in order to figure out who's out to get them.

Amidst all of the chaos that is surrounding them, Dylan fights again for Belle and solves her past so that they can move forward together. They rekindle the romance and relationship that once was torn apart – which was why I didn't give it quite 5 stars – their relationship started where they left off, almost back to instalove. I think that they needed more time to resolve their past.

Overall, this was a good mystery, if not predictable, but a good story regardless.

Cheyenne McCray is an award winning, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author who loves to torture characters—whether they’re misbehaving or not—and kill off deserving individuals. She also totally gets off on blowing things up. All fictionally, of course. She’d rather chew glass than write sweet and sugary. Give her a hideous demon or particularly nasty villain to slay any day.

Cheyenne enjoys creating stories of love, suspense, and redemption. She loves building worlds her readers can get lost in. If you would like to find out what odd and unusual things Cheyenne is up to these days, cruise her website any time, take a look at the bizarrely normal yet strange FAQs, and even drop her a line or two.
