Impetuous by Kaitlin Maitland

Desiree is tired of picking her sex partners based on their bank accounts and family connections. She’s ready to end her dry spell with a bang, no matter what it takes. When her quest for the ultimate one-night stand leads her into a bar called Jack’s, she’ll find exactly what she’s looking for.

Nicolai Anastas doesn't do long-term commitments. He’s an expert at saying goodbye. One night and a willing partner is usually all he needs. When a sassy socialite stumbles into his bar, he’s ready to send her back to her mansion. But Desiree isn’t willing to take no for an answer. She’s ready to say yes all night long.

Sex isn’t going to be enough to bridge the gap between Desiree’s affluent family and Nicolai’s humble origins. It’s going to take a deeper, more profound need to love and be loved to wipe away the past and forge a future for two people who were born worlds apart, but belong side by side.

This is the third in the series, and I am loving this whole 'family' of people and how they interact.

The previous two have been firmly rooted in a music theme, but this time it is Erik's older sister who gets to tell her story. And I loved it. She is just the right side of feisty and once she sheds the persona that has been forced upon her, she is a delight. That she falls for the 'wrong' person entirely, and that he has links to her brother adds both to the fun and to the strength of feelings swirling around. There are some wonderful insights into the ludicracy of the ultra-wealthy which are fun too.

All in all this is another very good installment in this series – thank you Ms. Maitland.

Crescendo by Kaitlin Maitland

Leslie has no use for long term attachments. She’s seen firsthand how fickle love can be. Better to keep things casual and walk away before someone else hurts you. Even when walking away leaves a wound that won’t heal.

Seth and Joshua are the two most successful Family Law attorneys in Boston. But their job can’t fill the void in their lives. Linked together by a lifetime of shared abuse and neglect, they want a woman who can complete their relationship, both in and out of the bedroom.

A legal issue leaves Leslie with nowhere else to turn and she strikes a devil’s bargain with the two sexiest lawyers in Boston. But her resolution to keep things light crumbles when their passion overflows the bedroom. When the past comes knocking, Leslie must choose retreat or the chance of a lifetime. In the end, she can only hope the crescendo leads to an encore.

Publisher's Note: This book contains explicit sexual content, graphic language, and situations that some readers may find objectionable: Anal play/intercourse, male/male sexual practices, ménage (m/m/f).

This is the second in a series – and after starting with the last in the series, so working my way back from the beginning, as I enjoyed it so much!

I enjoyed this book a lot – there were some loose ends, which maybe get resolved in later books, but the story overall was very pleasing. I love the mix of humour, scorching chemistry and serious issues – both of the heart and the mind. We also get to see Talia and Erik and get an update on their lives together in NY – which was a nice extra surprise. There were a couple of wonderful cameos from the revolting Mikayla, which serve both to show Josh what is and what isn't important, and Leslie how much she has changed. Does the reader have to suspend belief and go with the flow – most definitely – but isn't that part of the reason for reading fiction? I found it most worthwhile.

I am looking forward to immersing myself in Impetuous, which is the next in the series, very soon.

Strung Out by Kaitlin Maitland

Who said money can’t buy everything?

Erik Aasen has never failed to get what he wants. If money equals power and power equals influence, then Erik is at the top of the social strata. But when fate tosses a sexy classical musician named Talia Davies into his path, Erik discovers that the one thing he wants more than anything else is priceless.

When a one-night stand with Erik becomes much more than she ever could have imagined, Talia realizes she’s in way over her head. Growing up with nothing means understanding compromise. But the only thing Talia has is her self respect and that isn’t for sale at any cost. Not even when Erik is the buyer and the price is millions.

It doesn’t take Erik long to realize that Talia is worth everything he has. But a lifetime together might be more costly than either one of them expected. When worlds collide and the sheets catch fire, both will have to place a value on love, trust, and loyalty.

Note: This book contains explicit sexual content, graphic language, and situations that some readers may find objectionable: Anal play/intercourse.

This is the first in a series – and I started with the last in the series, so working my way back to the beginning, as I enjoyed it so much!

I loved this story. It is incredibly romantic and really highly implausible – yet it just works as a lovely hot, sexy, and very satisfying read. There is nothing new with a rich guy/poor girl scenario, and yet this does it particularly well, and partly that is because Erik is able to learn lessons, and Talia has a backbone. They also have some great friends – who I guess will be the leads in future stories, which I am looking forward to no end. I enjoyed the level of description about places, rooms, etc. without it becoming a magazine article. Clothes were referenced, but again without obsessiveness. An easy read, which had me forgetting lunch so I could just keep turning the pages.

I am looking forward to immersing myself in Crescendo, which is the next in the series, very soon.

Roses, Rallies, & BBQ by Kaitlin Maitland

Ossian McKinloch is the quintessential big brother who has all the answers, all the time. He considers himself the confirmed bachelor of Clan McKinloch until Jax Bequette stumbles into Oz’s pub and shakes things up. Now Oz is having trouble keeping things casual. Who can resist a guy like Jax who is the perfect mix of fun, masculine, and sexy as hell?

Jax Bequette has never been comfortable in his own skin. Raising his younger sister after their parents’ death gave Jax no time to explore his sexuality. When his friendship with Ossian McKinloch slides into something more, Jax is ready to explore what he’s been missing. The chemistry is combustible, but Jax is almost afraid to believe that he could ever be enough to tame a free spirit like Ossian.

Veronica☆☆☆☆
None of the McKinlochs have had an easy road to love and Ossian's journey is no exception. Jax and Ossian have issues to overcome but it is clear to everyone that they are meant to be together.

The biggest issue for this couple is labels. Jax has realised he is gay and is not sure how the label works and what the means for him. While Ossian doesn't see the point of labels and doesn't really get why this is an issue for Jax.

We've been watching Ossian throughout this series and it was great to see him find his partner. Ossian is the quiet brooding type while Jax is more laid back. I really enjoyed the romance of the McKinloch siblings and I like the little wrap up we get at the end. This has been an excellent series I'd definitely recommend.

Ruthie☆☆☆☆
The fifth book in the series, and I would highly recommend that you read them in order as they do move forward in time. That said, I started with book 4 before going back to the beginning and enjoyed them all the same!

As any reader of the previous books will know, Ossian has been a mysterious figure until book 4 – where maybe the chinks in his armour start to appear. And the person to penetrate them is Jax. He of the sleek Italian motorbike, soccer playing and owning background. The two men have been skirting along the edge of a relationship for months, mainly due to Oz's past affecting his view of being labelled.

This story is poignant, hot and as always involves a whole family of characters, not just the leads. I have loved all of the books, and hope that there may be more, even though the clan are all happily settled at last!

Junebugs, Haunted Houses, & Jack-O'-Lanterns by Kaitlin Maitland

Stacey is tired of sharing Donal with his job at McKinloch’s Pub. She wants a husband who puts her first. Besides, sometimes being married to the hottest guy in the room means you spend all your time wondering who else is volunteering to warm his bed.

Donal has never wanted any woman but Stacey. There is no way he’s letting her walk away from their marriage without a fight, even if he has to step out of his comfort zone and sweep her off her feet. Fortunately, chemistry is on his side, if only he can make Stacey understand that the sparks they have in the bedroom could be carried over to the rest of their lives.

It doesn’t take Stacey long to realize that the guy you have might be exactly what you need. After all, nothing worth having comes easy. Worse, she’s starting to realize that she might have unfairly judged the one guy she needs to make her life complete.

Veronica☆☆☆
Once you get into this story it is easy to see how Donal and Stacey ended up on the road to divorce. Stacey is very insecure, immature and believes everything her stuck up parents say. Donal on the other hand works too much simply doesn't communicate with this wife so the ideas planted in hear head grow unchallenged.

I really felt for Stacey at the start of this book and I understood her insecurity. As the story went on Stacey's immaturity started to drive me nuts. Donal wasn't much better. I wanted to yell at him to just talk to his wife. I really wanted to bang their heads together or lock them in a room until they sorted themselves out. Donal and Stacey are a very hot couple though and this is a good story. It left me wondering how many real life couples on the road to divorce are in the same situation – too scared and stubborn to talk to each other.

Ruthie☆☆☆☆
In this the third book in the series we start just as the last book ended. Unexpectedly, Donal's soon to be ex-wife turns up at the wedding with her new beau in tow. However, he does not seem like a nice guy at all. As we discover, Stacey has been fed some terrible untruths, and as the book unfolds all is not as it seemed.

This is a departure from the previous two stories, as Donal already has a wife, even if she is petitioning for divorce. It does a great job of dissecting a relationship and the issues on both sides. Loved the way that it was resolved, and the learning that both leads had to do to get there.

I'm going straight onto book 5. (I started with book 4, and have only just had time to catch up on the rest!)

Gavin McKinloch has left his parents’ pub to open his own bakery. Family friend Luce turns up at his bakery heartbroken on Valentine's Day. One things leads to another and they have an encounter which leaves them seeing each other in a new light.

Gavin and Luce can't seem to stop thinking about each other but misunderstandings, interference from others and their own fear means it isn't an easy road for this couple.

Hearts, Candy & Clover is hot with a good mix of romance and drama. I am really enjoying this series. I like the McKinloch family. Their pub is the kind of place I'd want to hang out at.

Ruthie☆☆☆☆
This is the second in the series, and definitely as good as the first. Undoubtedly hot, steamy and passionate, these stories also bring family values and importance to the fore. Each story is clearly titled to reflect the relevant holiday season and the McKinloch sibling getting entangled.

After Trip & Aiden in the first book, it does seem fitting that Gavin gets his chance at love. It may start out back to front, but somehow this will all get straightened out!

I'm off to read the next one immediately, as this family have really grown on me.
