Admissible Behavior by Jenna Byrnes

Take one smart, sexy lawyer with tattoos covering his body. Add a macho, handsome Texan with a liquid-gold accent and enough hang-ups to drive a lawyer to commit a crime.

When Alex West told his parents he was gay they said, “Okay. What do you want for supper?” He grew into a happy, well-adjusted man and a sharp-as-a-tack lawyer. He has it all—except someone to call his own. Meeting Kyle Harbor for the first time, lots of thoughts run through his mind. Most of them dirty. Finally, someone sexy and available, and what a catch.

Kyle Harbor grew up with a homophobic father who spent years convincing him what ‘real men’ did and didn’t do. They definitely didn’t fool around with one another, and Kyle got a summer at Bible Camp to convince him. Married for nearly twenty years, he finally decided his beautiful wife deserved better and divorced her. Now he’s looking for love in all the wrong places when he stumbles upon Alex and sparks fly. Can he battle his demons from the past, or is their relationship doomed before it even gets a chance?

Reader Advisory: This book contains references to homophobically motivated physical child abuse, some brief references to drug use, one brief reference to gang rape, and implications of a ‘gay conversion program’ in backstory.

Alex and Kyle made me want to scream at times, but I fell in love with them both and didn’t want their story to end. Alex knows what he wants and isn’t afraid to go after it. Kyle knows what he wants, but refuses to go after it and doesn’t think he will ever get it. Throw in some great secondary characters, an ex-wife, a daughter, and you got yourself a good story. The chemistry with Alex and Kyle is off the charts and only gets hotter. This was a great story with just a little angst, but a fast read. I can’t wait to see what the next book has in store.

This is the second in the series, and whilst the cast is partly drawn from the first book, you could read this as a standalone. That said, Acceptable Behavior is a good read, so don't miss out.

I enjoyed this story – with two men at very different stages in their emotional lives, but somehow interested in giving each other a chance to reach a compromise. There is a good mix of family, career, and revelations, as well as some pretty steamy scenes. There were some little touches which I found amusing, particularly the towels.

There were some good side plots for additional characters, which hopefully mean that there will be more from this engaging group of people.

I look forward to seeing who is in the limelight next time.

Jenna Byrnes could use more cabinet space and more hours in a day. She'd fill the kitchen with gadgets her husband purchases off TV and let him cook for her to his heart's content. She'd breeze through the days adding hours of sleep, and more time for writing the hot, erotic romance she loves to read.

Jenna thinks everyone deserves a happy ending, and loves to provide as many of those as possible to her gay, lesbian and hetero characters. Her favourite quote, from a pro-gay billboard, is "Be careful who you hate. It may be someone you love."

Although this is one of a series, it can be read as a standalone; and the good news is that there are plenty of other gay couples in the area which have smoothed the way for this latest romance.

I really enjoyed the story, both the wider drug issue and also the burgeoning romance. Connor was a useful, and sweet addition to the story – as was Gus – and gave the lead characters plenty of opportunities to interact and get to know each other. I did feel it was a little rushed, but I believe in knowing how you feel about someone pretty much instantly, so that was fine by me. They were definitely hot for each other, and found the time to test just how good the chemistry was! Sadly, the drug story seemed all too true, and worked well as a foil to the men's growing relationship.

Acceptable Behavior by Jenna Byrnes

Tattoos don’t define a person’s character, or make him sexy. But, if you ask Sam Madison, they sure don’t hurt.

Dr. Travis Nelson has a passion for ink but keeps his many tattoos covered by long sleeves and trousers. He’s aware that as a pediatrician he’ll be judged not only by the other physicians in his practice, but also by the parents of his young patients.

When Sam Madison takes his young nephew, Levi, to be seen for an ear infection, he’s immediately attracted to Travis and the feeling is mutual. But Sam’s sister Melanie is going through a rough time and caring for Levi, and covering her obligations, keeps Sam occupied. He feels like he’s in no position to start a relationship.

Travis sees things differently, though he’s unable to truly understand the deep bond and connection Sam shares with his twin. As Melanie’s life goes from bad to worse, Sam is forced to make difficult decisions. Is protecting Levi enough of a reason for the two men to stay together, or will fighting for the child ultimately tear them apart?

This is a really interesting read – it sometimes pushes uncomfortable buttons, but then also fits with the characters that are behaving in that way. It also grounds them as people who are fallible, who do have selfish interests at play, and who want to get what they want. It is a mixture of sweet and tense, a slow paced life but at the same time, feelings develop quickly. As the first in a series, it gives us a big picture of the place and the people, and lets us guess who will be featured in future stories.

I enjoyed the dynamic that has to come into play when a child is in the story – and it is effective, although I felt sorry for Sam when Travis was particularly blunt! The passion between the two guys is intense, and equal, which worked well give all the other inequalities. This is a book which makes you think as well as sigh, and smile. It has some lovely touches of humour, and family.

I will definitely be looking out for book 2 with interest. Thank you Ms. Byrnes.

Shannan☆☆☆☆
Sam Madison is having a rough life. He moved in with his sister to help care for his nephew, Levi. Melanie isn't what you'd call an involved mother, she is on drugs and depressed over Levi's father going to prison, leaving Sam to do all the work. Sam is just plain tired. He hasn't been in a relationship in a while but doesn't even have the energy to care. That is, until he meets Levi's pediatrician.

Travis Nelson is a pediatrician. When he walks into the room with his next patient, he's instantly interested in Sam, but not knowing the situation, whether Sam's gay or straight, he moves the sexy man to his fantasies. When fate puts the two men together again, Travis has to find out one way or another what the situation is. Can Travis give Sam the help he knows he needs? Will Sam admit the sexy doctor is just what he needs in his life?

I fell in love with this story. It was a quick romantic feel-good read. At times Travis was a bit overbearing, but it was what Sam needed. He needed someone to care for him. The monologue in the court room was perfect and brought me to tears.

Looking forward to reading more from this author.

There’s Something About a Pilot by Jenna Byrnes

Anyone old enough to remember the eighties can surely recall images and sounds from the movie Top Gun, starring Tom Cruise as Maverick and Anthony Edwards as Goose, among others. The characters were young, handsome men with no lack of confidence with the ladies or when zipping around the skies in their F14A Tomcats.

I vividly recall the sound because the movie came out on DVD around the same time we got our first ‘surround sound’ home theater system. I can still hear the roar of the jets and planes, and even feel the beat of the music as the movie zoomed to life on the screen.

Music is a very real inspiration for my writing, though usually when I hear love songs in my mind I’m envisioning two men rather than a man and a woman. (There, I’ve shared a secret with you!) Danger Zone, Take My Breath Away, and You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling all take on new meaning in the context of gay erotic romance.

A pilot is a highly trained man, and skilled at what he does. He needs a sharp sense of timing, a feel for the machine beneath him, and must be completely tuned in to what’s going on around him at all times. So given a naughty erotic author’s mind, you can see why this type of person sounds perfect to star in a hot Air Force anthology.

I took my men to the next level, putting them in the Special Ops division of Pararesucemen. These guys are even more highly trained, and their jobs performing search and rescue whether at home or abroad are so very important. The real men and women who do these duties are to be admired and appreciated. Making them gay and totally hot was my idea, just for fun. I hope you’ll enjoy reading about Matt and Drake as much as I enjoyed writing about them!

Excerpt from Search and Rescue by Jenna Byrnes

Bogart took a step closer. “In a way, it does concern yesterday. I needed to make sure I didn’t get my wires crossed somewhere. Because I think I felt a connection between us.” He arched an eyebrow as he studied Matt’s face.

Matt was gobsmacked. They hadn’t said more than a few words to each other that didn’t relate to the search. How could this guy know what he’d been thinking? Am I that obvious? His face heated and he was sure it turned a bright shade of red.

Bogart smiled. “I was right, then. You felt it, too?”

“Sir—Master Sergeant—I’m sorry. I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

The sergeant didn’t back off, in fact he leaned in closer. “Your mouth says one thing but your eyes say another, Airman. Matt.

Matt’s cock was already hardening in his pants. “I don’t— I’m not—” He couldn’t complete a coherent sentence to save himself.

Bogart blinked. “You’re not gay?”

“No, I’m gay. I’m just not out. No one here knows. So how did you…know?”

The sergeant was his height, and when he leaned in for a kiss, it felt totally natural. Matt opened his lips and the sergeant’s tongue plunged forward, batting against his. He groaned, amazed that something which felt so right could be so wrong. Matt pulled away. “We can’t do this.”

“We’re not in the same unit. It won’t be a problem.” Bogart leaned in again, this time capturing Matt’s earlobe between his teeth.

Matt’s attempts to halt the situation before it advanced sounded futile, even to his own ears. “You’re my superior.”

Bogart traced his tongue along the edge of Matt’s ear. “We’re both enlisted. If one of us was an officer, it’d be cut and dried. Fraternization between enlisted men is more of a gray area.”

His resistance weakening, Matt mumbled, “But, Master Sergeant—”

“Call me Drake,” Bogart whispered in Matt’s ear. “And yeah, I want your butt. In every way I can take it. From behind, missionary style, you name it. I want it. Bad. I’ve got condoms and lube, and a piece of paper in my pocket that says I’m negative.”

Matt pressed his hands on Bogart’s chest and pushed him away firmly. “You’re well prepared, Sergeant. So, do you do this with every class of trainees? Find a young one and zero in on him?”

Drake appeared stunned for a moment before he laughed. He laughed hard and had to clutch the nearest piece of furniture to keep himself upright. “Oh my God, Matt. You have no idea how far off base you are. I haven’t been with anyone in over a year—and never with another airman. But I’ve been thinking about it lately, hence the recent blood test. The celibate life sucks, and I was deciding how to rectify that situation. Then I saw you, and something in my gut told me…” He shook his head and looked away.

“Told you what?” Matt whispered, then held his breath.

Drake gazed into his eyes. “That you’re the one I’ve been waiting for.”

Shannan☆☆☆☆
Overall I rated this anthology 4 stars. Some of the stories were 5 some were less than but overall it was a good military m/m read.

Possibilities by T.A Chase – 5 Stars

"This isn't a relationship yet. It's a possibility....On a first date, there's excitement and nervousness because who doesn't love the idea of all that is about to happen. All the future experiences – good or bad."

Possibilities is sweet and romantic. Loved the chemistry between the characters. The first sexual encounter is steamy. Would have loved to read more about these guys.

Lonely Hearts and Yellow Ribbons by Stephani Hecht – 2.5 stars

This had great potential. I was enjoying the raw feelings of having a lover serve overseas, the long distance relationship, the homecoming but it just ended. There wasn't a real conclusion. I don't know if this one is going to be full-length and the ending was withheld for that reason but it just didn't feel complete.

Venetian Skies by Morticia Knight – 4 stars

I love a well written second chance love story with good sex scenes. I liked the fighter pilot angle. Chris was a little too forgiving for my liking but it works in a story like this.

Search and Rescue by Jenna Byrnes – 5 stars

Oh Drake you were a hard man to like. He was so arrogant and came across like such an ass but under it all he just wanted what was best for Matthew. The pair together was off the charts hot and the author made the story line work. Well worth the read.

Live for the Day by Sarah Masters – 3.5 stars

Best friends to lovers – childhood friends who planned to join the military together. Steven joins, Michael doesn't but being apart doesn't stop Michael from worrying constantly. Steven returns home with the sole purpose of telling Michael his feelings. It was a little awkward between them at first, sweet and innocent.

Lifetime Hitch by Megan Slayer – 4 stars

Hunter's return home isn't what he expected. His best friend welcomes him home, not his family. I loved what the author did with this one. It was sweet and sexy. It felt complete at the end. It flowed well. Shel was not my favorite character but in the end I can see why she was written that way. I will be looking for more from the author.

This was a really sweet read. I liked how we see Carson and Dixon's relationship grow. Even if they didn't want a relationship to start with. Even though it's a short story I felt we got to know the characters very well.

Lonely Hearts and Yellow Ribbons by Stephani Hecht
This story hit me right in the feels. It kinda took me on a rollercoaster ride, it was a heartbreaking read. Watching someone you love struggle and be lost because of a job they had to do. It was a great read however it left us with a little cliffy.
