Finding Michael by Megan Slayer

Going home could be just the thing his muse needs and his heart desires.

Tristan Paulson needs the words to return. He loves his career penning novels of small-town love, but his muse has gone missing. Since he can’t write, he goes back to his roots to sort through the items his recently deceased uncle left behind. Once in Sullavan, Ohio, he realizes just how much he loved the place. Then he sees the handsome librarian—Michael is just the kind of guy he’s always wanted. How can he go back to the big city when Sullavan calls to him?

Michael Kane wants nothing more than to be surrounded by his books and the written word. He knows heartbreak and isn’t in the mood to put himself out into the dating pool again… until he sees Tristan. He wants to be with Tristan, but he’s too shy. A handsome man like Tristan wouldn’t be interested in someone quiet like Michael… would he?

Reader advisory: This book contains reference to stalking, harassment, emotional abuse and attempted suicide. There is a scene of a hostage situation containing a gun threat.

I am sure I will be in the minority, but I wasn't a fan of this book. I couldn't get into the story and I couldn't connect with Tristian or Michael. I put the book down several times and picked it back up over a week hoping I would get into the story, but it just didn't happen. I didn't even feel the chemistry between Tristian and Michael, which would have helped me get into the story. There is angst and drama, so read the trigger warnings.

This was a really fun story to me. I really liked that you see what celebrities deal with, but you also get to see that they are just people too. I have to admit that I had a hard time with the feelings that developed super fast between characters, but I can also see how there might still be feelings after a long time apart because they were each other's first real loves and they had an abrupt ending the first time.

Watching the threesome juggle the feelings of everyone and making sure one part of the triad didn't ever get feeling left out was fun. I liked that the woman wasn't just supposed to up and leave her life because two mega hotties wanted her. I liked that there was compromise and open conversations. Although I felt like there were still some times when they were shut off about certain things (like Dare's agent). I also thought some parts of the 'drama' were to quickly wrapped up and thrown in like they were just a passing thought when they'd played some serious parts in the story and what brought them all together earlier in the story.

All in all though, I really enjoyed the story and the characters.

Ruthie☆☆☆☆
Unusually this book review has me slightly stumped. I think the premise for the story is really good. It is super hot and the male leads, in particular Liam, are delicious. What I struggled with is the Richard part of the story. Would she really go for someone like that? Would she not know his family? Would her friends not have dealt with it much much sooner, or told Daryl? I had to let my imagination stretch at that element of the plot.

Otherwise I found it to be a fascinating take on a ménage story, as one pairing had happened early, but ended, the now strong one was cemented in a formal union, and somehow the trio worked – even though there were insecurities, the balance was much more even than it could be expected to be. I think that their age was a part of that resolution.

If you like ménage stories where everyone concentrates on the other equally, then there is a lot to recommend this new release.

When she's not writing the stories in her head, Megan Slayer can be found luxuriating in her hot tub with her two vampire Cabana boys, Luke and Jeremy. She has the tendency to run a tad too far with her muse, so she has to hide in the head of her alter ego, but the boys don't seem to mind.

When she’s not obsessing over her whip collection, she can be found picking up her kidlet from school. She enjoys writing in all genres, but writing about men in love suits her fancy best. The cabana boys are willing to serve, unless she needs them. She always need them. So be nice to Javier or he will bite—on command.

Making the Play by Megan Slayer

Sometimes switching things up really does mean getting the guy.

Allan Clark thought his life as a wide receiver for the Wildcats was over the moment he was told he’d be the new punt returner. He’d thought he didn’t want to be a special teams player. He’d rather have the limelight. Once he starts returning punts, he realizes this was where he should’ve been all along. Speaking of perks, he now gets to spend time with the sexy kicker, Tyler Leigh. Maybe this switch is the best thing that could’ve happened to him.

Unlike Allan, Tyler isn’t planning on going into the draft or playing football for the rest of his life. He’s got other plans, but a side trip with Allan in the sheets isn’t off of his radar. He’s wanted Allan since he joined the team. But Tyler’s got baggage and an overzealous ex-boyfriend hell bent on making his life miserable. With Allan, he sees a bright spot.

Will these two seemingly opposites leave their desires on the field or will they find common ground together and score?

Reader Advisory: This book contains scenes of masturbation and implied abuse.

2.5 stars rounded up

I am a big fan of sports romances, so was looking forward to this new story. I have also read many of Ms. Slayer's books and enjoyed them. SO, I was very pleased to get a chance to read and review this book.

The quantity of sport was not excessive, but it was interesting to be looking at the lesser roles and seeing it from the college perspective – rather than the often used QB. I did like Allan and could only feel for Tyler, who was in a horrible situation. Things between them developed very swiftly, and whilst I recognised that it was the end of their time at college, so things would move quickly, but I am not a big fan of insta-love, so I was at a disadvantage here.

This was a cute, quick read with a happily ever after.

Together in Cedarwood by Megan Slayer

Bobby Gagnon came back to Cedarwood in the hopes of starting over. He’s got his kids and his accounting business, but he wants more. One look at the hot guy sharing the running trail with him is enough to stoke Bobby’s fire. He wants to hook up with the sexy runner, but he doesn’t even know the guy’s name. Will the man even want to be with a single father?

Remy Bard never considered himself a kid person or parent material. He’s happy with his job at the Cedarwood Tribune, but it’s not enough. Something’s always been missing in his life. He keeps seeing the same guy at the park—tall, dark, handsome and hot as hell in those running shorts. Although he’s shy, Remy isn’t about to let this guy get away without at least one night together.

These opposites certainly attract, but will their differences be enough to keep them apart or will they find a way to come together in Cedarwood?

Angie☆☆☆☆
This book took a little time for me to get into, but once I was into it I really enjoyed it. I haven’t read any of the previous books in the series and I didn’t feel like I really missed anything, but I might go back and give them a read. What Bobby and Remy thought was going to just be a one-time thing turned into so much more. I loved how Remy decided to give things a chance with Bobby and his kids, even though he wasn’t a fan of kids; however, Bobby’s kids are great and who couldn’t help but fall in love with them. This was a super sweet love story and worth a read.

Characters: Well written and easy to relate to
Sex: Yes
Religious: No
Would I recommend to others: Yes
More than one book in the series: Yes
Genre: M/M Romance
Would I read more by this author: Yes

Veronica☆☆☆☆
Remy and Bobby have a super hot night together and they both want to explore the possibility of more. Bobby, however, is a single dad and kids are a deal breaker for Remy. Ultimately he decides to give things with Bobby a shot anyway.

Remy and Bobby have a great relationship in the bedroom, but outside of it the baggage they have from prior bad relationships proves troublesome. That coupled with The Coalition heating up their homophobic hate campaign means Remy and Bobby have to work hard if they want to be together. Together in Cedarwood also deals with the issues single parents face of when to introduce a new partner to their kids and trying to integrate that new partner into the family.

I have to say, Together in Cedarwood is a really well put together story and it was great to read.

Ruthie☆☆☆☆
This is the fourth in the series, and another good read. I would say that it is possible to read as a standalone, but there is an underlying plot going through the books – and we get to see previous couples and their progress too. I would say they are best read a little time apart.

Bobby, newly returned to Cedarwood, is making a life for him and his children near his parents, and childhood friends. He has had a few damaging relationships – and he discovers just how damaging as we go on. He is wary, yet when he sees Remy, he wants to try all over again. Reading about how these two imperfect men may become perfect for each other was a light and easy read. There are no massive dramas, although the Coalition is still causing trouble. Turning chemistry into longevity is really the biggest challenge that these two have to address. My only other comment would be that making the passage of time clearer would make it seem less like it was a very quick romance.

Emily Cross is a born Hunter. Her life’s work is to keep the balance between the Supers and the Supers who have stepped out of line. She’s never been keen on the Rogues taking over the Hunters. She doesn’t want to kill all the Supers...she is one! When she finds a nearly charred vampire in the woods during one of the hunts, her thoughts turn from killing to keeping him alive.

I enjoyed this little short. Once again, Megan Slayer does a great job with her characters. The chemistry couldn't get any hotter. Also, I really enjoy how the main story within the series is written. This sexy little page turner fits right into the Battled Scarred series.

You Belong to Me by Megan Slayer

The world can crumble around us, but we’ve always got each other. Always.

Joachim Stokes and Padraig O’Malley are the best of friends. The attraction between them is palpable, but there’s something missing. When they are tasked with protecting Ava, they realize they’d found what they’ve been missing--her. A bond forms between the three, but some bonds are meant to be broken. Stephanie☆☆☆
Who doesn't enjoy a sexy paranormal story starring a hot vampire and sexy shifter?? This story definitely brought the heat and, as with the first two, the author does a good job with the characters and the story telling. I enjoyed this installment of the Battle Scarred series.

Ruthie☆☆☆
This is the third in the series – and I have to admit the first that I have read. I think that it would be a better experience if they were read in order, as clearly the underlying plot is ongoing and the characters have been introduced previously. An insight into the connections between Padraig and Joachim from previous books would make the development of the bond much clearer. Ava's arrival at the house and some of her past would also be explained.

That said, it is a quick and, in places, steamy ménage read. It takes the story forward and also introduces some more new characters who will be placing themselves in danger for their newly found mates all too soon. I am going to read back and look forward to the next book, as I want to know just what Maslow is, and what his master plan involves.

Following his heart and passion will be his biggest role of all.

Kris Hunter wants out. He’s done pornographic films for the last six years. The pay’s been good, but his creativity is nearly dead. His passion is to act and to be a star on the big screen in mainstream films. When he auditions for famed casting director, Zayn Mason, he’s convinced he’s on the right path. He doesn’t want to take the casting couch route to success, but he certainly wants Zayn in his bed. Can he follow his dreams and the man he desires or will forces beyond his control derail his progress?

Zayn Mason sees the potential in Kris. As a casting director, he looks for the right actor to fill the roles in movies. He’s seen plenty of talent come and go, but no one stirs his soul both creatively and physically like Kris. But Zayn knows the pitfalls of the movie industry. Crossing over from porn isn’t easy and Hollywood isn’t always forgiving. Besides, he’s got demons of his own. Can these men get beyond their pasts and find a future together under the bright lights of the silver screen?

Kris longs to be an actor outside of skin flicks, and he's in a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. He began acting in porn to pay the bills, and now no one will hire him, no matter how many casting calls he makes or how good of an actor he may be...until he meets a casting director who is willing to give him a chance.

After getting a callback, Kris has never gotten this far in the industry. Even with the casting director on his side, he can't get past the producer who has turned him down time after time. Zayn (the casting director) won't give up on Kris, and takes him under his wing as his personal pet project, while trying to ignore the heat building between them.

First impressions are everything. The lust is instantaneous between the two, both fantasizing about the other after a few minutes of interaction. Both already longing for more than they have been living, and wondering if the other could give them what they need.

Wild Card is a sweet, fluffy story which will no doubt please many of a MM romance reader, with a grittier underlying storyline of the pitfalls of the porn industry and how it follows you even after you leave it behind. Both characters have a compelling backstory. Added to that is a pooch, and any book with a dog is a winner in my opinion.

Truth be told, I never connected with either Kris or Zayn, and that's on me, not the author. I read the book but never delved too deeply into it to get emotionally involved. I personally need a buildup, where the reader learns about the characters as they learn about one another. But with Kris and Zayn already feeling forevers upon meeting one another, even if they didn't admit it to the other, I was emotionally distanced. The flow of the dialogue wasn't to my tastes, not quite flowing naturally.

Simply put, I was not the intended audience of Wild Card, and no doubt its audience won't be able to get enough of Kris & Zayn.
