What We Broke literally broke me in ways I never saw coming. It is written so well you feel every emotion along with the characters. I had no doubt Marley Valentine would kill this story, but I never expected what we got.

I loved the back and forth of Then and Now, Before and After. We got to see how they met, fell in love, what kind of relationship Jesse and Leo had before their indescribable loss, how their marriage got to the point of despair, and their fight through grief and how that changes a person, marriage, and family.

What We Broke is a beautiful story and will stay with me for quite some time. I cried, my heart broke, and Marley Valentine put it all back together again at the end.

Marley Valentine has a way of writing that pulls me in right from the start. All it took was reading the prologue, where Jesse and Leo suffer a horrifying loss, and I was an emotional mess after only reading a handful of pages.

What We Broke take us from the present, where Jesse and Leo’s marriage is in tatters as they struggle with their grief and heartache. The heaviness of the present is broken up by going to the past and learning about how the men meet and fall in love. And their love story is beautiful. I loved how they met and their first night together. It was fun and had just the right amount of spice.

I was completely engrossed in Jesse and Leo’s story. Even with their lives falling down around them, deep down they are still in love and care deeply for each other and their connection felt so strong. At times I wondered if they’d find their way back to each other and their difficulties had me in tears several times.

I loved What We Broke. Sometimes it broke my heart and other times it made my heart soar. What We Broke is another brilliant romance from Marley Valentine. Five stars.
