Jason had settled into a chair in the center of the shop, surveying the work going on around him. He’d already left once, returning with sandwiches and sodas for everyone. As the hours passed and he vacillated between returning messages on his phone and talking to the workmen he obviously knew, she grew more confused.

“Don’t you have somewhere else to be?” she asked him.

He raised an eyebrow as if to say, Really? “Nowhere more important. I want to make sure the work here is done correctly and this place looks exactly the way you want it.”

She appreciated his thoughtfulness, but he had to have better things to do than worry about her. “Okay, but I can handle that. I don’t want to take up more of your day than I already have. I can stick around until the guys are finished, lock up, and head home.”

He folded his strong arms over his chest, his olive-green Henley pulling tight over his muscles. “And do you think I’m going to leave you here alone after what you told me about your brother?”

She’d been pushing thoughts of Colton aside all day. “I have pepper spray on my keychain.” The words sounded ridiculous, even to her.

She was no match for her brother, and if he was strung out? He’d have a wiry strength she couldn’t handle. She knew that firsthand, memories of her hands trying to pull his wrists off her neck very clear in her mind.

“Okay, fine. I appreciate you making sure I get home safely.” She’d be a fool to fight Jason’s protective nature.

“You still don’t get it. But you will.” He shook his head, amusement warring with a more serious expression. “You’re coming home with me, sweetness. I’m not leaving you here or in that shitty walk-up with a crappy lock your brother could break with one good kick.”

“Hey! That’s my apartment you’re insulting!” And all she could afford.

“It’s only an insult if I’m wrong.” He studied her, as if daring her to argue.

“I can’t just move in with you!”

He sighed. “Fine. You need someone to vouch for me? We can call my partners. Or my sister. Or… Hey, Sam! Am I trustworthy?” Jason yelled out to the man who was just climbing down a ladder, her clean window staring back at her.

Sam strode up to them and looked from Jason to Faith and back again. “Best man I know. Take a look at this.” Reaching into his pocket, Sam pulled out his phone, then began scrolling through his pictures.

“This is my girl.” He turned the phone so Faith could see a picture of a grinning little pixie with a bright smile and a pom-pom hat on her bald head, no hair hanging down beneath the folded brim.

“She’s beautiful,” Faith said, sliding her finger over her face.

“And if it wasn’t for this guy introducing us to his sister, I don’t think my wife and I would have made it through the roughest parts of her illness.” He shoved his phone back into his pocket.

Looking up at Jason from beneath her lashes, she caught a flush on his cheeks.

“It just so happens I could help you, man. But I’m glad Sienna could do her part. She loves fundraising and doing anything she can for kids who’ve been through what she has.”

Faith would like to help her one day, when there was no danger following her around, she thought sadly. For now, though, she had to fight through her own problems and not bring them into other people’s lives.

“Thanks, Sam.” Jason all but dismissed his friend, who waved and walked back to the other guy helping him.

“So? Still think I’m a serial killer?” Jason asked her.

Jason is a club owner who loves his life. He is in control at all times and while he knows that his family might be slightly unconventional, he loves them regardless. Jason has had a difficult time learning what it is to be in love, what it is to love, and what family should be.

Faith is on the run. She had to leave her past behind, but now she's on her way to starting her own shop – a candy shop. She loves her life and knows that someday, she'll be able to own her own shop.

When Jason meets Faith, he helps her with her flat tire. She is thankful and despite thinking he's very attractive, knows that she has to keep her head down. With her in hiding, she can't afford to bring attention to herself.

Jason and Faith's courtship is somewhat stressed. He's fielding his club, his family, and trying to keep this attraction he has to Faith at bay. However, after a series of events leave Faith feeling even more vulnerable, Jason takes it upon himself to become Faith's protector.

I enjoyed watching this family and how they loved each other. Faith fit right in and I thought that Jason and Faith did some great growing throughout the book. I can't wait to see the next one.

This is the first in a new series, but Phillips fans will happily recognise the lead from the Dare to Love series. We also get to catch up with his family again. So, whilst you don't need to have read them to enjoy this book, if you have any intention of reading them, then be aware that you will be spoiled for any secrets revealed within them. Does that matter, probably not, but if they are sitting waiting for you to read them, then maybe start there.

Jason Dare and his two close friends own a nightclub, named for their dearest friend and brother who died in horrible circumstances. His whole life has been affected by his unusual family life and this terrible event – so much so that he is determined to never let any woman get too deep into his heart. Of course knowing this, we are just waiting for Phillips to give us the story of how wrong he is! And it is done in the very best of ways in this romance.

Faith is making the very best of her life given the rubbish start she had. She has escaped from her past as much as she can and now has her very own business making candies. A slashed tire brings Jason into her life, and her fears and his protective nature have her realising it is time to accept some help. And when we know why she might need the help, it is good news that she does – let alone the fact that the two of them are super attracted to each other.

As the story developed and they act on the chemistry between them, everything heats up nicely, but they are still reluctant to trust each other or themselves. Luckily, learning some home truths give us the outcome we all desired. And the promise of another good installment to come soon.

Sexy Dare is the first installment in the Sexy series. I found out after the fact it is a spin-off to another series (Dare to Love). The Sexy series can be read without previously reading the Dare to Love series.

Jason is tortured by his past. Swearing never to open his heart or love again. Faith is running from a past she hopes won't catch up to her. When Jason and Faith meet, she hesitates to take the help he offers, and he has no idea how this one interaction will change both of them.

This couple was both sexy and, watching them grow and walls drop. I couldn't get enough of them.

This book has definitely got me wanting to go back and read the Dare to Love series. I realize after reading this book there may be some spoilers revealed, but I'm willing to risk it!

The Dare family saga continues with Jason's story.

We've seen Jason before, he is the half-brother to the Dares we met in the Dare to Love series. Jason's view of love is skewed. His seemingly perfect family was anything but. He found out a young age, that his father was actually married to someone else, had a family with his wife and that his mother knew all about it.

In college, one of his best friends died as a result of a hazing incident and since then, Jason has played his cards close to the vest. He doesn't want to care for anyone else – those who are already in orbit are more than enough people to worry about.

One night, however, Jason meets a damsel in distress. One that reluctantly takes his help, has no problem saying "no" to him, and it piques his interest. That she makes awesome cookies.

Faith is just a Midwestern girl doing her best to get lost in New York City while at the same time trying to make a candy business a success. A dichotomy you say? I agree. Faith left her hometown after her mother died and her drug-addled brother tried to hurt her into giving him money. Running far and fast, Faith embraced New York and found an attorney to help her get her named changed. Life is a little bumpy, but all in all, not bad. Until someone slashes the tire on her van and Jason Dare saves her from changing the tire.

Faith and Jason are attracted to each other and as their friendship grows, they decide to act on that attraction. Unfortunately, Jason is ready for more and Faith realizes that she wants more than just a casual fling.

It takes Jason's mom and Faith's brother making appearances for Jason and Faith to fully realize what they both want.
