Lucifer's Litigator by TJ Nichols

To save his soul, he’ll have to fix his one regret—the love that got away.

The summer between the end of school and the start of what came next was full of sun, surf, and sex. For Will McLeod, that meant Tom, his first male lover. He knew the romance had an expiration date and would end when Tom joined the Army, but that didn’t stop Will from falling in love.

Tired of being looked down upon for being poor, Will became a lawyer—but not just any lawyer. He litigates for the gods as they gamble with the lives of those desperate enough to make deals. His job is to make sure they don’t slip free. He has more money than he knows what to do with, but he’s fast running out of soul.

Twenty-five years haven’t dimmed the candle Will holds for Tom, and when they meet again, he has a chance to put things right. Back then, Tom wasn’t ready to fight for them. Now the decorated soldier is willing to get his hands dirty, but will he be a match for the forces trying to keep them apart?

Tom and Will knew each other when they were in high school. While they came from two very different backgrounds. Will wants things in life that he has only ever dreamed of and Tom just wants to escape the strings that come attached to everything in his life.

Now, at their high school reunion, Will is looking for a part of himself that he lost years ago. He knows that he would do it differently if he could and while he knows that he chose this fate, he's hoping for some redemption.

Tom is back from war and doesn't quite know what to do with himself. He's still hiding who he truly is and he's not quite sure how he feels about it. When his high school reunion invitation pops up, he decides on a whim to attend. Little did he know that by attending, he would be setting in motion a plan that would reveal more to him than he ever knew.

Tom and Will have to battle the gods and angels for their time together and in the end, it might just be a battle to the death. Will they both have the strength and love to follow through with their plan or will their love be lost forever?

It was a sweet story where the two characters got to redeem their younger selves. It's an easy read and can be done in an afternoon.

The blurb for this book was so good, I couldn't wait to get some time to read it! This was a fast read, but honestly, I found the book to be a tad bit boring. Yes, there were shadows, angels, and gods, but for the most part it was just boring. Tom and Will were together as kids, went their separate ways and Will had his one regret as Tom. With an NDA in place, he can't tell Tom what the issue is and why everything is happening. I thought things might get good towards the end but nah, the story was just all tied together really fast and then it was all over. I also really didn't feel a connection between Will and Tom, I tried, but I couldn't. Overall, it was just an okay read for me.
