Joslyn is young and looking for an amazing career. When she meets Kynan, they have an instant connection. However, Joslyn's manager is anything but excited about their new relationship. When things start to heat up, Joslyn is on top of the world. She has fallen in love and is going forward in her career.

What goes up, must come down... when Joslyn learns a hard truth, she packs up and leaves without looking back. Kynan isn't quite sure what has happened, but he knows that he has to move on too.

Years later, when Joslyn is in trouble, she knows she'll have to crawl on her belly to ask for Kynan's help. She's the last person he would want to help or see. Bu, when Joslyn's life is in danger, she swallows her pride and goes to his firm to ask for his help. She knows that somewhere deep inside, she still trusts him with her life, even if she can't trust him with her heart.

Kynan is blown away when he learns that Joslyn has come to his firm for help. He really wants to say no, but when he sees the bruising, he can't turn her away. He never stopped wondering what went wrong and if he was just a stepping stone in her life. Now that they are thrown back together again, he's hoping to get some answers.

These two are comfortable with each other. You can tell in their interactions that there is an intimacy that comes from knowing each other from before, no matter how briefly. They still have love in their hearts for each other but have to ask themselves if they can trust again. Secrets have a way of coming out and when these do, it's a pretty hard pill to swallow. This is where I had my biggest grievance about the story. Both were pretty horribly betrayed. When it comes to confronting and fixing the betrayal, it was almost too simple – too easy for the betrayer to "make amends." That made me question Kynan and Joslyn's relationship in a new way.

Overall, this is s a good second-chance romance. With a few issues with the plot, I really enjoyed the story. I hope to see more from this firm and from the awesome people who work with Kynan.

This is the first book in a new series – and as we meet the protagonists for this and future books, readers are definitely destined to enjoy another big hit series from Sawyer Bennett. Kynan, the owner of Jameson Force Security, is setting up a new team for undercover work, and the team he is recruiting has all the hallmarks of hot, sexy, intelligent, and efficient with their hands. Yum!

In this first book, it is Kynan who finds himself providing security for Joslyn Meyers, the one who got away. His introduction may seem a little harsh, but we soon learn it is protection for his heart that makes him such a cad that first night! As the plot unfolds, it is clear that these two have spent a dozen years trying to forget a connection which still isn't entirely broken. Whether they can forge a future together on a permanent basis is not certain, but first there is a small matter of a persistent and impressively elusive stalker to remove from the equation!

I really enjoyed how the world building is literally done on the page in front of us, as Kynan recruits his team, and sets them to work on Joslyn's case – all the while introducing us to the skills of the team, the importance that he places on their expertise, and the rules he can break to get who he wants and needs. He is also, as we discover, a big softy at heart, and has a British accent which along with his good looks is pretty irresistible!

We get less of Joslyn's world, as she is currently hiding out, but she has led a full and productive life since their split and is very successful in her own right – which equals the power, even when at times she is more than happy to cede control.

Yep, another winning start to a series that is on my look-out-for list, let's hope the wait is not too long!

This is a sexy, exciting read. When a stalker threatens a music superstar, Joslyn turns to her former security guard and ex-boyfriend for protection. Kynan is now the owner of a successful, top secret security agency and he’s willing to do just about anything to keep Joslyn safe.

Joslyn and Kynan’s reunion is emotional and both characters find themselves reminiscing and regretting the way things ended between them. I have to admit that I didn’t completely warm to either character. Joslyn is a little too fragile for much of the story and Kynan is a little bit too alpha male for my liking. Joslyn does get more likeable but Kynan remains overbearing. And this is definitely Kynan’s story. Personally, I felt that Joslyn had the potential to be a more interesting character, but we don’t ever see much of her life or her career.

I found the ending of this book frustrating. The first three quarters of the story is a slow burn romance laced with an edge of suspense as Joslyn’s stalker lurks in the background. The last five percent of the story is a frantic but predictable showdown between the stalker and Kynan’s team. I felt like the book needed a buildup of tension and suspense that just never happened. This story works better as a romance than it does as a suspense.

I have mixed feelings about Kynan’s private security company as the backdrop for this series. As a non-American reader, I’m intrigued and a little bewildered by the many ‘black-ops’ security novels on the market at the moment. The whole concept of private, pseudo-armies seems bizarre and implausible to me and I really hope these kinds of organisations aren’t as prolific as American fiction would have us believe. I’m guessing my response is personal and possibly cultural but I’m more than a little bit tired of this format.

I tend to read whatever Sawyer Bennett writes, and if it was written on the back of a grocery receipt, I'd read that too.

The reason? Her writing is wonderful. Her ability to create characters that resonate with the readers and to world build is something you can tell that she works hard at. Now that I have fan-girled hard enough, I'll get down to my review of this book.

Kynan is putting together a team of people to work for him as part of his security force. He already has one office but is looking to expand. He has interviews set up and things to do to get this phase of his business up and running. Except one Ms. Joslyn Meyers is sitting in his office looking like a battle-worn refugee.

Joslyn Meyers is a rags-to-riches singer who has made it big in an industry that is notorious for chewing up singers and spitting them out. Her mother's blind ambition made it happen and for a while, Joslyn got caught up in the glitz and glamour. Now all Joslyn wants is a little peace and quiet and for the person who is stalking her to be caught and sent to prison.

Joslyn came to Kynan because of their shared past and because she knows that he will protect her from harm no matter how angry he is at her.

It’s time to get their acts together and to figure out what they want and what or who they can't live without.

I can't wait for the next book in this series.
