Ocean Light by Nalini Singh

New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh dives beneath the surface of her Psy-Changeling world into a story of passionate devotion and selfless love...

Security specialist Bowen Knight has come back from the dead. But there's a ticking time bomb in his head: a chip implanted to block telepathic interference that could fail at any moment—taking his brain along with it. With no time to waste, he should be back on land helping the Human Alliance. Instead, he's at the bottom of the ocean, consumed with an enigmatic changeling...

Kaia Luna may have traded in science for being a chef, but she won't hide the facts of Bo's condition from him or herself. She's suffered too much loss in her life to fall prey to the dangerous charm of a human who is a dead man walking. And she carries a devastating secret Bo could never imagine...

But when Kaia is taken by those who mean her deadly harm, all bets are off. Bo will do anything to get her back—even if it means striking a devil's bargain and giving up his mind to the enemy...

Oh wow – I love the BlackSea world introduced in this story! At book 17, I’m so glad that this story takes us back to the things I most loved about this series in the very beginning. Bowen’s immersion in the BlackSea clan introduces readers to a whole new world and a whole new mythology. It’s a welcome departure from the increasingly complicated and theoretical unravelling of the Psy-net and a return to the more character and romance driven stories at the start of this series.

I love Bowen and Kaia together and I love them as individual characters. Bo has been in the background of this series for some time now and his story makes the wait worthwhile. Kaia is completely new to me – and she’s wonderful. I don’t want to talk about her too much because she should be a complete surprise (and a complete joy) for readers.

The highlight of this story is the introduction to BlackSea. I reacted with the same kind of awe and wonder I felt when first immersed in Sascha and Lucas’ worlds in book one. Subsequent books have expanded the psy-changeling world but BlackSea is unique and different to anything we’ve seen before in this series. I almost think this book could stand alone – but after 17 books I’m probably the wrong person to make that call. I loved this story and I can’t wait for the next one.
