Hot Winter Nights by Jill Shalvis Blog Tour

Who needs mistletoe?

Most people wouldn’t think of a bad Santa case as the perfect Christmas gift. Then again, Molly Malone, office manager at Hunt Investigations, isn’t most people, and she could really use a distraction from the fantasies she’s been having since spending the night with her very secret crush, Lucas Knight. Nothing happened, not that Lucas knows that—but Molly just wants to enjoy being a little naughty for once ...

Whiskey and pain meds for almost-healed bullet wounds don’t mix. Lucas needs to remember that next time he’s shot on the job, which may be sooner rather than later if Molly’s brother, Joe, finds out about them. Lucas can’t believe he’s drawing a blank on his (supposedly) passionate tryst with Molly, who’s the hottest, smartest, strongest woman he’s ever known. Strong enough to kick his butt if she discovers he’s been assigned to babysit her on her first case. And hot enough to melt his cold heart this Christmas.

It took Lucas Knight longer than it should have to realize he had a woman in his bed, but to be fair, he had a bitch of a hangover. Even worse than that, last night was a blur, prompting him to take quick stock. One, there was a bundle of sweet, soft curves against him. Two, his head was currently threatening to secede from the United States Of Lucas. And three, his side hurt like… well, like he’d been shot.

It’d been two weeks since he’d gotten caught in some crossfire on the job and he hadn’t yet been cleared for more than light duty – something he’d obviously managed to ignore last night given that he was palming a nice, warm, feminine ass.

Think, man.

Straining his brain, he remembered taking a pain med before going to O’Riley’s Pub to meet up with some friends. A client had been there, someone he’d recently helped save from a multi-million dollar corporate espionage. The guy had ordered shots to toast to Lucas and… shit. Knowing better than to mix pain meds and alcohol, he’d hesitated, but everyone had been waiting on him, glasses hoisted in the air. Thinking just one shot couldn’t hurt anything, he’d knocked back the drink.

Clearly, he’d been wrong and it’d been enough to mess him up big time, something he hadn’t been in years, not since his brother Josh had been killed. Shoving that away for another time – or never -- Lucas cracked open one eye, but when his retina was stabbed by a streak of sunlight glaring in through the window, he immediately slammed it shut it again. Taking a deep breath, he told himself to suck it up and opened both eyes this time, learning two additional facts.

He was naked and completely uncovered.

And the woman snugged up at his side was rolled up in his comforter like a burrito.

What. The. Hell.

This is the sixth book in the series – and I would highly recommend that you read them in order, as they are very good and there are threads which continue through the books. From Eddie, Spence's uncle who lives by the fountain, to Ivy and the Taco van, there is a whole community that you will come to know and enjoy. All Jill Shalvis books I have read are excellent and this is one of the absolute best I think.

We know some of the investigative work that Archer and his team undertake. We know that Lucas was recently injured, and that Joe's sister, Molly, runs the office and is a whizz on computers, but desperate to do more exciting stuff. Finally, she gets the break she wants when a bad Santa problem is brought to her by her neighbour. Archer refuses to get involved but knows Molly well enough to ask Lucas to keep an eye and help if necessary.

Lucas is itching to get back to work, but babysitting really isn't his thing. He very quickly realises that Molly is more than capable of looking after herself and is as good in the field as in the office. He also discovers she is getting under his skin – something he has forbidden himself to ever happen again.

Watching these two lovely people open their eyes to the possibilities of each other, is both incredibly romantic and very entertaining. The scenes with his family are priceless. They have some scorching hot chemistry and he is perfect when reassuring her about her scars and her strength.

I really enjoyed this installment; it had a wonderful mix of romance, suspense, family fun, and passion. All Jill Shalvis books I have read have been excellent, but I think this is one of the absolute best.

Molly runs the office at Hunt Investigations but wants to work on cases of her own and become an investigator. When her elderly neighbour asks her to investigate the goings on at the local Christmas village where she and her friends work, Molly steps right up. Her boss, Archer, won’t take the case but secretly assigns one of his investigators, Lucas, to work with Molly and back her up.

I loved Molly. She is strong, intelligent, and tenacious, but when it comes to love she doesn’t have much confidence. Lucas is a great guy, alpha, strong, smart, sexy but I think my favourite thing about him is how he sees Molly. As they work together and spend time together, he sees what an amazing woman she is and wants to support her, work with her, and see her succeed. It is impossible not to adore a man like that and to want that for her.

Hot Winter Nights is such good fun. Molly and Lucas have great chemistry but neither one of them is interested in love. Sex, yes, but not love. They almost fall in love against their will and it is pretty entertaining to see and romantic too.

Along with their love story we get to solve the mystery of what is happening to all the money being made at the Christmas Village, fun with some older ladies, and we get to see some of the characters and couples from previous Heartbreaker Bay novels. Hot Winter Nights was great and gets a solid four stars from me.
