Rescued Hearts by Jack Fisher

Candy was trailer trash until EMT Ryan saved her life. Though salvation and love begin to bloom for them both, deadly danger also lurks.

Have you ever fallen in love with an angel? Candy Carter has. A self-proclaimed trailer-trash princess, she seems destined to live a life of quiet deviance in Haven Hill, a dying rural town overrun by drug dealers and criminals.

Then, in her darkest hour, EMT Ryan Roth saves her life when a forest fire ravages her town. That fateful encounter doesn’t just endear him to her heart. It inspires her to leave Haven Hill and build a better life, much to the dismay of her jealous ex-fiancé, Paul Reynolds. She runs away, enrolls in college and tries to become the kind of woman who was worth saving.

But just as that life seems to be taking shape, Candy crosses paths with the man who’d been her angel, only to find out that he’s divorced and miserable. As they reconnect, old dreams transform into new passions and hope for the future for them both. However, Candy’s old life comes back to haunt her. Her angel may not be able to save her this time, or they may both lose their lives.

Candy is living a life she doesn't want. She knows she'll get stuck there if she stays any longer. After a near death experience, she knows that she needs more out of life than drugs and using her body to get what she wants.

Despite having a difficult relationship with her mom, leaving her is difficult – her mom has been her role model all her life and using her body is what she knows best. But when push comes to shove, Candy knows that she can do more with herself.

Ryan is a recent divorcee who has never truly lived up to his family's expectations. He has a strange back story and despite being a great EMT, knows that he was a disappointment. He crossed paths with Candy when he saved her and even though there have been hundreds of saves since, when she reminds him, he immediately remembers that fire.

This is more of a romance dealing with trauma than a true romance. I think that Ryan and Candy would have been more successful if they had more interaction than just in the end. While I thought that their romance was somewhat realistic, I also thought their interactions were slightly stunted. Overall, this was entertaining, but lacked true chemistry.

Jack Fisher was born in Washington DC into a large, loving family that nourishes creativity at every turn. He grew up on a steady diet of comic books, movies, and Saturday morning cartoons. That diet gave him an active imagination, one he channelled into writing. He began writing at age 16 and hasn’t really stopped since. He quickly developed a soft spot for romance, often writing fan fiction of his favourite fictional couples. Eventually, he graduated to writing stories about couples of his own creation, with a heavy focus on heated passion and powerful intimacy. He is currently single and lives just outside of DC. He is still a self-professed comic book lover and all around sci-fi geek while striving to refine his craft in any way he can.
