I Need You Tonight by Stina Lindenblatt

Old habits die hard. But in this sexy, heartwarming romance, a musician who’s addicted to the temptations of the road falls for a good girl who makes him want to clean up his act.

Mason Dell’s band, Pushing Limits, is a sensation, and he’s having a blast on their biggest tour yet. Then he gets a call from his best friend, who’s in the Navy, asking him to find out why his sister isn’t answering her phone. The dude once saved Mason’s life from a suicide attempt related to a gambling problem—so the two-and-a-half hour drive from L.A. to her small town is nothing.

What he finds is a sweet, successful boutique owner who’s too busy to notice when her phone dies. Nicole McCormick has nothing better to do than work. She’s bored of all the men she’s been dating: stable, career-oriented guys who are nothing like her destructive father. Mason’s is a breath of fresh bad-boy air. Their sexual connection is explosive, and with her shop undergoing renovations, Nicole even joins Pushing Limits on the road. But when Mason falls off the wagon, that’s one path she swore she’d never go down again.

While Nicole picks up her broken heart and heads home, Mason misses her like crazy. Although he wants to forge a future with her, he just doesn’t know how to leave the past behind. But for love, it’s time to learn.

Kris☆☆☆☆
Third book in the Pushing Limits story and this one is Mason's, the drummer for the up and coming rock band Pushing Limits. Mason has had his fair share of issues before his stint as the hottest rock band's drummer. After a gambling addiction left him penniless and desperate, Mason tries to end it all. Thankfully, his best friend saves him from himself and Mason gets his life back on track. When that friend asks Mason to check on his sister for him, well, Mason isn't going to refuse. Doesn't hurt that Nicole is easy on the eyes. The two enjoy each other’s company and Mason is really loving the sedate life while the band is on break from touring. Hanging out with Nicole in a domestic bubble and fixing up her house is really a balm on Mason's soul.

There were some wonderful steamy moments and some tender ones too, but I experienced disconnect from Mason and Nicole. Never really getting too invested in their story. Written well but slightly formulaic. Sweet ending that made me smile, this book was still worth the read.

So – simple premise. Rock star falls for his friend’s little sister, helps her sort out her life, and brings her on the road so she can enjoy the excitement of his celebrity lifestyle. I love a good rock star romance, but Mason and Nicole owe their relationship to a supersize helping of cosmic good fortune and readers will have to consciously suspend all disbelief if they want to believe in this couple’s happily ever after.

By the third or fourth chapter, Mason fulfilled one too many female fantasies and I was struggling to see him as an actual person. He’s a humble rock star who is loyal to an old friend, he’s a handsome shoulder to cry on, he’s handy around the house, he’s good with kids. And Nicole is that rock star novel stalwart – the pure and good girl next door, the opposite of the predatory groupies who stalk Mason. Urgh.

I like Nicole as a small business owner at the start of the book but I hate the way she allows Mason to reshape her identity so he can keep her close. The sex between these two is hot, but their agreed ‘no sex on the road’ limit dials down the heat pretty quickly.

It turns out that Nicole has overcome a difficult childhood and Mason shares the same addiction that ruined her life once before. But again, this storyline resolves itself far too easily. Addictions are never this simple and I’m not sure a rock star has ever been so self-sacrificing.

And honestly – the ending? Cavity inducing. The author crafts a most unlikely suburban picket fence utopia for this band of rock stars. Weddings and babies and lashings of music industry awards... The result is almost emasculating and it’s certainly not how I envisioned this series ending.

Ultimately, this is family friendly, rock-star-light romance. This is romance writing for former high school cheerleaders stuck at home in new subdivisions with whiny toddlers and flailing marriages. Mason is everything their boring and disinterested husbands aren’t and Nicole has the life they once wished they’d have.

...And I’ve realised that I’m being a complete bitch. This wasn’t a story I really enjoyed but I’d advise readers to download a sample and decide for themselves.

This is the third book in the series. Ms. Lindenblatt has covered a variety of plots, so there has been a new story each time, and involving a different band member.

In this installment we start strongly, with Nicole being another interesting female lead. But whilst when she was working and single she was a strong woman, it seems that Mason is her kryptonite, as she sadly loses her backbone far too fast. And when the sweet and sexy goes south, there are some serious twists needed to resolve the situation and make everything right again.

If you like your male leads to be swoon-worthy but also soft, and reality to be bent to fit the romance, then this is definitely a story which will work for you.

Born in Brighton, England, Stina Lindenblatt has lived in a number of countries, including England, the United States, Finland, and Canada. This would explain her mixed-up accent. While studying in university, she learned to play the electric bass and often dreamed of one day playing in a rock band. Alas, she ended up getting a master’s of science in exercise physiology instead and eventually went on to write stories about athletic heroes and rock stars.

In addition to writing fiction, she loves photography, especially the close-up variety, and currently lives in Calgary, Canada, with her husband and three kids.
