Brock Ferguson knew he might run into his ex-boyfriend,
Vincent Geraldini, when he took his first job as a police officer in Carlisle.
Vincent’s attitude during a routine traffic stop reminds Brock why their relationship
didn’t last.
What Brock doesn’t expect is finding two scared children in the trunk of a Corvette. He’s also surprised to learn the kids’ mother is Vincent’s sister. But his immediate concern is the safety of the two children, Abey and Penny, and he offers to comfort and care for them when their mother is taken into custody.
Vincent is also shocked to learn what his sister has done. For the sake of the kids, he and Brock bury the hatchet—and soon find they have much more in common than they realized. With Abey and Penny’s help, they grow closer, until the four of them start to feel like a family. But Vincent’s sister and her boyfriend—an equal-opportunity jerk—could tear down everything they’re trying to build.

Vincent is just starting a new position at his job. This is a position that he has been vying for since he realized that his immediate boss was terrible at her job.
Brock is just getting back into the swing of things. He has started a new position and is stuck doing traffic duty. He sees Vincent again, after Vincent broke his heart. Brock really loved Vincent, but he didn't want to be the dirty secret either. So, he's picked up and moved on. But when he sees Vincent again, all of those hurt feelings come rushing back.
I think that the real story is more about Vincent learning how to love the kiddos, Penny and Abey. It was more about the relationship that had begun when Vincent and Brock were too young to appreciate what they had and how they were able to take their history and turn it into a future with the kids that were rescued by Brock and cared for by Vincent.
The chemistry between the main character was slightly stunted. I felt that their relationship was based more on family rather than true attraction because they were past the newness of attraction – they already knew they had chemistry. So this was more about them learning how to co-exist and raise the kids.
