Strictly Business by Sheryl Nantus

You can lead a Domme to love…but you can’t make her fall.

Kate Dubois is a Domme-for-hire for the highly exclusive Hooded Pleasures, a service offering private BDSM sessions to those who can’t—or won’t—risk appearing in an actual club.

Lately, though, she wonders if professional burnout is causing her to have painful flashbacks to a past heartbreak. When her boss insists her next client will be a breath of fresh air, Kate reluctantly agrees to an interview.

Alex Hanson dominates the world of computer game programming, but secretly he suspects he might be a sub in the bedroom. There’s only one good way to find out—hire a professional to show him the ropes.

Their first meeting puts both of them to the test—Alex’s self-control, and Kate’s realization she might just like him a little too much. But there’s no denying their emotions are inextricably entangled…a dangerous step Kate’s not sure her heart is prepared to take.

Warning: Contains a hard-core computer geek with a tender side, and a Domme who can’t afford to expose her greatest weakness—him. Geekery combined with flogging. Enjoy!

I completely enjoyed this novel. We start with a Domme, Kate Dubois, who had lost her boyfriend/submissive in a messy breakup in front of the whole BDSM club. Feeling once burned, twice shy, she goes to work for Hooded Pleasures, a Domme for hire business. She needs to have her Domme needs met but doesn't want any messy relationships. Meet Alex, he's decided that he might be a natural submissive and longs for a Domme to take him in hand but is too afraid to go to the club to find out. He calls Hooded Pleasures and requests their services. Kate & Alex SPARK. Their chemistry is written quite well and you want them to cross all the lines in a personal relationship but Kate tries to keep her heart in check and hides behind the "rules" of the job. Alex just needs to knock down the walls Kate has built around her heart after that horrible breakup. I found Kate endearing and interesting and Alex a good mix between a submissive but also a man who knows what he wants. Both characters are techie/gamers and gave a nice thread in common between them. It was a very pleasant read.

I am on the fence with this one. I connected with Alex and felt everything he was going through but I felt nothing with Kate, I mean nothing. I loved the storyline and how much potential it had. For me I just got bored because Kate wanted him but was just being stubborn about it. Yeah, she went through a bad situation with her ex Carl but come on, almost ¾ of the book was just I want him but it would break the rules and I was just tired of it. The scene at the club was great; if the rest of the book would have been that good I would have loved it. Then the ending just came too fast and the author tried to pull it all together too fast and finished tying the bow with the epilogue. I didn’t hate it, there were a few good scenes but for the most part, it was just ok.

Characters: Well written
Sex: Yes
Religious: No
Would I recommend to others: Yes
More than one book in the series: Yes
Genre: BDSM/Romance
Would I read more by this author: Yes

There were certain parts of this story that I simply adored and part that drove me a bit nuts.

The gamer aspect... LOVED. I loved that it was a different thing they had in common and could connect on that front. I really liked the way she introduced him to the BDSM lifestyle and the way he reacted.

However, I didn't like the way she let her ex rule her. I didn't ever feel like he'd hurt her as bad as she stated he did so maybe that's why. Everyone has their weak points but I just didn't feel like this would've been hers. She'd known their relationship was sort of not working for them so why she was so hurt to find out he'd cheated I'm not sure. I can see her being upset so much by the way they acted like it was nothing, no argument, not talking about what happened, just let him come and take his things and leave.

I would've really liked to see Kate bend the rules a little. Give in a little with Alex so she could see that there was more there, but it wasn't until the very end that anything really happens between the couple and I think it could've come together a little more smoothly and not so focused on the rules, but that's me.

Overall, I enjoyed it and would read the next in the series.
