The Dark Ones by Rachel Van Dyken

To touch a Dark One is death.
To talk to an immortal is suicide.
Yet, I've been marked by both.
A Vampire.
And the King of the immortals.
My life is no longer my own.
And now I know the truth, my life was never mine to begin with.
It was theirs.
It's always been theirs.

I feel I can confidently say this series is my favorite that I’ve ever read. Rachel Van Dyken quickly became my favorite author after reading her The Matchmaker’s Playbook and though I’m not a fan of paranormal, I decided to give this series a go – I’m completely obsessed. I went on vacation for a week and good thing because I wound up reading all four books in four days and now I’m not so patiently waiting for more!

Genesis is a human who has been raised believing she’s meant to serve the Dark Ones. When her “number is called,” she’s very confused but heads to a room with a Dark One, a vampire, a werewolf, and two sirens. Cassius, the Dark One, is interested in Genesis almost immediately and the others sense that, believing that Genesis would be in grave danger if she were to mate with Cassius, the others take her back to their home. Ethan, the vampire, winds up marking Genesis as his own, effectively mating her, to save her from Cassius. Cassius won’t give up that easily though and does everything he can to sway Genesis into his grasps – Genesis’ love for Ethan must be strong enough to resist.

I think the only negative thing I have to say about the book is that the beginning is very confusing, there are a ton of characters introduced all at once. At the same time, I feel like that really made Genesis’s confusion about the entire situation a lot more understandable – as confused as she was, I was also confused. Other than that though, this book is brilliant. I’m completely obsessed with every single character, they’re all fantastic and I seriously just want to move into their house with them! I left off from reading this one so excited to dive right in to book two!

Rachel Van Dyken is the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today Bestselling author of regency and contemporary romances. When she's not writing you can find her drinking coffee at Starbucks and plotting her next book while watching The Bachelor.

She keeps her home in Idaho with her Husband, adorable son, and two snoring boxers! She loves to hear from readers!
