Maybe I was all wrong about my ability to love and commit, but when the past comes back to haunt me, can I be the man that Veronica, and Janelle, deserve?

Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆☆
This is the eleventh book in the series – and every single one is an amazing read, so if you are not up-to-date, then I recommend you get caught up, and enjoy every second of the process. Any fan will know that Riggs has been the solitary, antisocial, and difficult new teammate, completely out of step with the rest of the Vengeance family. They are not giving up on him, but he really needs to get with the programme before it affects his performance too – and finally we get to understand some of his hesitancy in making connections.

SO, it turns out that Riggs is really a good guy... just well hidden under his brusque manner, and his refusal to get close to his teammates. He has his seventeen-year-old sister, Janelle, living with him, and when we learn why and what he did to care for her, already our opinion starts to change. His sharp hate-hate attitude towards Veronica is much less appealing, but as we all know, sometimes the distance between love and hate is a mere hair’s breadth.

I loved spending time in Clarke's bookshop again – genius move of the author's to bring us back into that safe and very friendly space, and give Rigg's sister a chance to spread her wings in a protected environment. Veronica, Clarke's best friend and free labour, finds herself training up Janelle before she goes off to finally finish her degree. Again, we learn more about her, and why she is so certain that she will never trust the attentions of a man again.

As the chemistry between the two of them takes up a lot of their thoughts, we are just waiting for the explosion! I loved every bit of their awakening to what life could be like... even if there were a few tears along the way.


Mary – ☆☆☆☆
I have wondered about Riggs and his sister since he was first introduced into the series. I was happy to finally read his story and it was a great way to get to know him and his sister.

Riggs cares about two things, hockey and his sister. He doesn't want anyone asking questions or wants to get to know anyone. He doesn't date or want a relationship. He only wants to play hockey and protect his 17-year-old sister.

When he meets Veronica, she works at the bookstore with Clarke, and Janelle is going to work there after school. Well, there are more than sparks flying when Riggs and Veronica meet. There is an immediate dislike for each other, but something is simmering below the surface.

Veronica and Janelle hit it off from the start. Riggs can see that they are becoming fast friends. At first, he thinks Veronica might be a bad influence, but he will learn that she might be just what they both need.

I have to say that author Sawyer Bennett has done it again with this series. Riggs and Veronica are perfect for each other. Their banter and chemistry are off the charts. And the way they both treat Janelle makes their story even better. I cannot wait for Barden's story next.


Avid Reader – ☆☆☆☆
M/F Romance

Riggs is the loner of the Arizona Vengeance. He has a lot going on and when he joined his new team, he wasn’t quite sure how to put himself out there. He has never believed in romance and knows that sometimes, your home life can be your worst time.

Veronica is a divorcee who is trying to make up for the lost time she spent with her loser of a husband. She knows that she’s somewhat lucky that she is paid such a generous amount for her alimony, but she has aspirations that spur her on. When she meets Riggs for the first time, he makes a less than ideal impression.

Janelle is your typical teenager who is wanting to fit in. What she knows is that her brother, Riggs, always has her back and she will never have to live with her icky stepdad again.

As these three figure out their lives, relationships, and how to find happiness, you get to see all of the previous Arizona Vengeance players and their families too. I really enjoyed watching this family develop.

It has funny, sweet, and sexy moments, but it all comes together in a romantic package. I really enjoyed this book and thought that Riggs and Veronica complemented each other well. I did feel that the ending was slightly rushed with the resolution and the conclusion, but overall, was very happy with how this story was executed.

I was excited to see this book on my Kindle, I love the group at Blackbridge Security. Although this story has a little different feel to it, it is more focused on the couple than on the team. But it is still great.

Gaige Ward is the acquisitions expert at Blackbridge Security, when his boss tells him they need women on the team and he wants to see about adding a few, Gaige isn't sure what to say. He goes about his normal life. When he meets a woman at the bar one night, that is all he thinks it is, a one-night stand. What a surprise the next morning he gets at work.

Leighton Redmond was hand-picked by Deacon Black to be the woman to help get more women to work for Blackbridge Security. What she didn't expect after her night with "John" was to see him at the place she might be working.

Gaige and Leighton are perfect for each other, their chemistry is off the charts. Working well together is an added bonus. When he takes her to a family function, he realizes that there is more to his feelings than just a great time together.

Can they work things out and make a relationship work? Will she go back to New York? Can Gaige move on if she doesn't stay?

As I said, I love this series and this story is a little different, more focused on the couple. But the guys are still there at times and that bird is there too. I cannot wait for Finnegan's story.

Gaige loves his job. He loves the people he works with and respects the heck out of his boss. But he's always shied away from relationships. He likes all types of women and doesn't want to be held down to one. Life is too short for that.

Leighton is amazing at her job. Her family life, however, is somewhat of a mess. Looking to find some relief, she heads to the bar for the night. She knows the score and isn't looking for forever. After all, men suck. She knows she'll never have to see him again, so why not let loose a little?

Despite their passion, Gaige knows a clingy woman's eyes and he quickly puts the kibosh on Leighton's thinking that they will have another night. However, he does so in a manner that truly makes Leighton irate.

When Leighton heads to her new job, she doesn't expect to see Gaige again and turns around and leaves when she sees who's working at Blackbridge.

Knowing that he screwed up, Gaige tells his boss that he'll talk with Leighton and get her onboard again.

Leighton is dealing with a lot right now and this just piles on top. However, she wants to be the professional she is. So, she slaps on some lipstick, pulls up her big girl panties, and gets to work.

Despite their connection, they try to deny it for as long as they can. Their banter is fun, sexy and gives the story a lightheartedness that the others didn't have.

This book is by far the least dangerous of the Blackbridge Security romances. I actually thought it was rather ho-hum in that department. I wanted more from the conflict for sure. So, while I enjoyed the story, it was definitely a romance only story with almost no fast-paced aspects that I've come to expect from James' books. It's still a good romance though, so I look forward to what's next.

Mia Benson is still trying to undo her father's wrongdoings, even though she is swapping real paintings and replacing them with forgeries, she feels she is somehow doing good.

Logan Ford is pretending to be an insurance agent trying to find out about the stolen paintings. He thinks that Mia is involved in the thefts. When they meet, there is a simmering spark between them. The banter and fun they have between them is so easy, he is beginning to second guess her involvement.

As Mia learns more about Logan, she wants to tell him everything. But can he help put her father away and keep her out of jail? Is there a chance for Mia and Logan to have a future together?

I have enjoyed this series, it is filled with suspense, excitement, fun, laugh-out-loud antics, and everyone gets a happily ever after. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Avid Reader – ☆☆☆☆

Lily is just trying to put the past behind her. She loves her family and her job. Knowing that she escaped her own death, and at such a young age, has shaped her ability to trust, in a negative way. Even though she's trying to get on with her life, she can't help but be slightly envious of those around her who have a loving partner and family.

Levi is a rugged, alpha male who knows what he wants and throws caution to the wind when he sees Lily for the first time. Despite his role on the ranch, who his boss is, and his true purpose for wanting to work there, Levi can't help himself. Lily is a challenge for him, and he is intent on making her see how good they can be together.

In order for Lily to truly move forward, she has to face her past. In seeing where she's come from, she can clearly see where she's headed.

This was a slow-burn romance between Lily and Levi. I'll admit that they fit fairly well together. I wish that we knew a little more about her past, but given the story, I enjoyed these characters a lot.

I can't wait to see what happens next and hope that Justice and his brothers leave poor Lily alone. They were very annoying.


Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆
This is the third book in the series, but I think you can read it as a standalone without worrying too much about what happened in earlier books. That said, they are good reads, so you may well go back and read them later.

Because the man she helped put away has escaped, Lily is in danger, but refuses to go into WITSEC and chooses not to tell anyone around her either. Levi is sent in undercover to try and keep her safe. Inevitably as they get closer, they are both holding onto secrets, although Levi knows hers, when his come out, we know there will be trouble in their burgeoning relationship.

Whilst this is definitely a romantic suspense, the suspense is definitely tempered by the two of them enjoying each other a lot! That said, the tension of waiting for the anticipated arrival of the escapee does keep the reader, and Lily, on edge for a lot of the book!

A sexy, enjoyable read, which I would definitely recommend.

House of Shadows is the second installment in the Royal Houses series. Since it is a continuation in an epic fantasy series, book one, House of Dragons, must be read first to avoid confusion and to understand the complex world building.

Since it had been a long time since I read the debut, I was fearful I would be confused at the start of House of Shadows, but K.A. Linde flawlessly delivered cues to clue the reader in without massive amounts of info dumps, leading with a smooth transition from one book to the next as if ending one chapter and beginning another.

Kerrigan was abandoned at the House of Dragons when she was a child. While she was under the impression she was removed by her father due to her half-fae lineage, it was to keep her safe under the protection of the mountain.

After the events of the previous installment, which I won't highlight to avoid those reading this review before deciding to start the series, Kerrigan is training to become a full-fledged member of the society. Combat, history, and bonding with her dragon, while being targeted by Society members for not being full fae, she has a large target on her back.

Kerrigan is a strong heroine. She's as gifted as she is flawed. Nothing comes easy to her, trying with all her might to succeed even when she fails. She doesn't necessarily take things in stride, but that is what makes her feel more realistically human. Bridging the gap between all social classes, royals, fae, half-fae, human, and destitute human, Kerrigan becomes a symbol of hope.

House of Shadows is an adventure. While fast-paced, it was a long, complex journey filled with politics, battles, push-pull romance between enemies turned lovers, smoldering into a slow burn with the whisper of a triangle (quadrangle?) as Kerrigan is torn between what she wants, what she needs, what would be for the good of her people, and what would be good for the people she represents, not only in the Society or her royal lineage but for those she sees as her people.

Everyone fighting each other, inter-fighting and species fighting, I won't get into the overall plot, as that is something best dove into blindly. What I will say is that Linde is a master of angst. Not only is our Dark Prince a persnickety sort, stoic with a hot and cold personality, Kerrigan is dealing with the King of the dregs, feelings from her teen years quite possibly rearing their ugly head as he becomes protector instead of negotiator... then the royal line comes in to create mischief, dragging along a betrothal of the lost princess, one in which who needs her to be queen to his future king.

It's a year-long wait, which I will be anticipating the next installment, as it promises to deliver more of which readers voraciously read in the first and second installments. One thing I know not to fear is the seamless transition from one book to the next, no need to reread, but I will say the prospect is temping.

My guilty pleasure, sentient beings in a series, where they take on a life of their own. Be it an inner beast, a gargoyle or a pixie, or a sarcastic dragon partner. The relationship Kerrigan develops with her dragon, the witty repartee, the teasing, the little snips and digs, it brings life to a creature that is generally just on the pages.

Highly recommended to fans of both adult and young adult epic fantasy. House of Shadows is sure to please the masses.

This is the last book in the trilogy, and without a shadow of a doubt, you need to read these in order to fully appreciate the plots and interwoven storylines. I almost envy someone who gets to read these all afresh in one go, and I have added them to my must reread list. I am going to assume you are up to date in my review.

With both Brielle and Millie in wonderful relationships, Daphne is feeling the weight of responsibility falling on her alone. Both her sisters are keen on her too falling in love, and the fact that her one-time crush, Jackson, is not only back in town, but also clearly interested, is fuelling their thoughts. I loved how we have the story of their past revealed to us, and how the shadow cast by their difficult past must not prevent them from having a future. Jackson has no intention of failing and makes that clear from the beginning, which is very alluring, and thankfully effective.

Kristen Proby has done a great job of balancing the dark with the light. There is plenty of danger spilled over from previous books and it is getting ever closer. We are given significant reminders of the forces at work in disrupting the peace of the Landry sisters, and what protection they have against them. I don't want to spoil the story, so will not say more.

I am very hopeful that this is not the last time that this talented author pens a paranormal romance, because I have enjoyed these very much.


Avid Reader – ☆☆☆☆

Daphne and Jackson’s story is finally here. Daphne and Jackson lost touch after Jackson lost his father in a tragic death. Not wanting to hear what Daphne saw, Jackson withdrew and left his coven for the Army.

When Jackson returns, Daphne isn't really willing to put herself out there again for Jackson. She knows what it's like to be hurt by him and she doesn't want to feel that again.

Jackson knows that he was wrong to blame Daphne all those years ago, but he can feel that something big is happening and he doesn't want to lose Daphne to it.

As everyone gathers together to fight their final battle, you can't help but cheer them on. I do wish that there was more resolution around their battle. It almost felt anticlimactic. Yes, the battle was hard fought, and yes, it took everyone's gift working together, but it also didn't really have a lot of angst or turmoil either.

Overall, I'm super glad that I was able to read this series. It was full of love, intrigue, strong women and men who are swoon worthy. I look forward to what Proby has coming up next!

This is the second book in this engaging series. I would recommend that you read them in order; not only are the lead characters introduced there, but also elements of the previous crime are mentioned. It is also a very good read!

Matthew, Jen, and Ross are once again racing against time, as North Devon becomes a dangerous place to live. With links to the Woodyard – a community centre run by Matthew's husband, Jonathan – there are again problems with blurring the lines between work and private life. I really like how we get snippets of all their private lives, and not only how the gravity and long hours of work impacts on their relationships. I also loved seeing that Lucy is doing well, and that the arty vibe that continues through the story.

The plot centres around an investigation about a young man who was failed by the mental health department of the local hospital. As the story unfolds, it reveals some very disturbing parts of society, and just how the mind can justify the worst of actions. Unravelling it all is perfectly complicated, and there are lots of twists and turns which throw out false leads.

Another really good story in this engaging series.
