From #1 New York Times bestseller Lora Leigh comes the final book in the Moving Violations trilogy, Her Renegade Cowboy!

He will risk his life…

The oh-so-proper school teacher, Lily Donovan has learned, the hard way, that men are not to be trusted. Period. Until Levi Roberts, the new cowboy working at her cousin's ranch, tempts her carefully-built resolve and awakens an all-consuming passion she thought lay dormant. But when she discovers his deadly secret, and her own secrets come to light, Lily unwittingly joins the lethal cat and mouse race between Levi and the man he’s been hunting for weeks.

To save her heart…

Former Ranger Levi Roberts has seen his fair share of deadly trouble during his years as a tough-as-nails operative. The ultimate expert in undercover investigations, he’s been tasked to find a man with a dangerous agenda in town. Routine work has been boring… until he runs into Lily, the prickly school teacher who tempts him like no other. Getting under her skin has been deliciously satisfying for his red-hot desire, but when Lily lands in the hands of the very man he’s been investigating, Levi will have to fight with every ounce of his heart and soul to save her—and to heal the heart he broke.

Lily is just trying to put the past behind her. She loves her family and her job. Knowing that she escaped her own death, and at such a young age, has shaped her ability to trust, in a negative way. Even though she's trying to get on with her life, she can't help but be slightly envious of those around her who have a loving partner and family.

Levi is a rugged, alpha male who knows what he wants and throws caution to the wind when he sees Lily for the first time. Despite his role on the ranch, who his boss is, and his true purpose for wanting to work there, Levi can't help himself. Lily is a challenge for him, and he is intent on making her see how good they can be together.

In order for Lily to truly move forward, she has to face her past. In seeing where she's come from, she can clearly see where she's headed.

This was a slow-burn romance between Lily and Levi. I'll admit that they fit fairly well together. I wish that we knew a little more about her past, but given the story, I enjoyed these characters a lot.

I can't wait to see what happens next and hope that Justice and his brothers leave poor Lily alone. They were very annoying.

This is the third book in the series, but I think you can read it as a standalone without worrying too much about what happened in earlier books. That said, they are good reads, so you may well go back and read them later.

Because the man she helped put away has escaped, Lily is in danger, but refuses to go into WITSEC and chooses not to tell anyone around her either. Levi is sent in undercover to try and keep her safe. Inevitably as they get closer, they are both holding onto secrets, although Levi knows hers, when his come out, we know there will be trouble in their burgeoning relationship.

Whilst this is definitely a romantic suspense, the suspense is definitely tempered by the two of them enjoying each other a lot! That said, the tension of waiting for the anticipated arrival of the escapee does keep the reader, and Lily, on edge for a lot of the book!

A sexy, enjoyable read, which I would definitely recommend.

This is the second book in the series and whilst Jacob appears in the previous book, and the leads in that book are mentioned, there is really little other overlap of the couples or the storyline. I have to admit I was a little disappointed and I had assumed that Hunter and Samantha would have featured more.

We get the story from both viewpoints, so we soon know that there is history between the two leads, but that only Sallie has memories of it. She has been on the run for many years, and although confused by Jacob ignoring her for the last three years, she has settled down more than she had expected. If I had been her, I would have avoided a few of the lonelier places she found herself, but I am a bit of a worrier! There are some great side characters – such as Jacob's Gran, and the twins at the ranch, as well as the Culpeppers and Tara. They add to the levels of comfortable that Sallie has achieved at Deer Haven and increase her reasons to stay – even if Jacob seems to have no idea that they once spent a weekend together.

As they finally spend some time together, Jacob starts to try and understand who exactly Sallie is and, through his CIA contacts, the mystery starts to unravel. It is full of twists and turns, as well as some hot passionate encounters between them. Some of the plot is wildly complicated. but it is a fun read for sure – and these two definitely deserve to have a more peaceful future.

Both authors are on my "go to" list when it comes to comfort reads and when they teamed up, it was an automatic buy for me.

This book quickly became one of the "classics" for me in that the characters are so real and the reader has a vested interest in the lives of Sallie and Jacob. The chemistry is palpable and the reader is fighting for the couple as much as the couple is on the page.

I strongly recommend picking up this book (and book one) and spending an afternoon reading about a cowboy and his love.

Sallie Hamblen isn’t really her name, but it’s who she is now. Years ago, she fell fast and hard for Jacob and she never was able to get her heart to recover after he left her.

Jacob has always been a protector and always will, but after a near death accident, he knows that he’ll have to do his protecting in a different way. Meeting Sallie has niggled something in his lost memories, but it’s always just out of reach.

Sallie and Jacob dance around each other for years. When they do finally come together, memories will resurface, hearts will heal, and heads will roll. Someone is out to get Sallie and Jacob, but unless they can figure out who, neither of them will be safe.

As the danger draws ever closer, Sallie and Jacob will search out clues.

This was a somewhat jumbled story for me. Jacob was domineering, but not in a sexy way, for me. He was simply domineering. I thought that his character was somewhat flat, I wanted more dimension from him. Sallie was more dynamic, but still closed off, in terms of relatability. I liked the mystery within the story, but it seemed almost rushed.

Overall, it was entertaining, but lacked depth and felt rushed.

One Tough Cowboy by Lora Leigh & Veronica Chadwick

First in a brand-new series from #1 New York Times bestselling author Lora Leigh and Veronica Chadwick about one man’s pursuit of justice—and unbridled desire.

LAW AND ORDER.

For as long as Samantha can remember, Hunter—a man as strong as steel, with a heart of gold—has been her hero. It came as no surprise to Samantha when she found out that the ranch-hardened cowboy who always protected her from bullies went on to become the town’s sheriff. What does surprise her is how incredibly hot he still is. And how much she still wants him…

PRIDE AND PASSION

And, lo and behold, Hunter still has feelings for Samantha. The long-smoldering heat of their innocent flirtation has grown into a full-raging fire. But when tragedy strikes, and their small-town community is shattered, Hunter vows to do everything he can to keep his childhood sweetheart safe. But can Samantha trust that Hunter has her best interests at heart… and that, after all these years, his love is true?

When Samantha's small town has a series of incidents that are suspicious to say the least, horrific at most, Samantha will come home to try and make sense of a death in her family. Even though she has been away for several years, it still feels like home. While she knows that she might run into Hunter, what she doesn't expect is to still feel the chemistry with him. Sam is a tough character who does not take crap from anyone. She was super strong, and I really liked how she didn't let people tell her what to do or who to listen to. I also loved that she was a tough cop who knows how to take care of herself and those she loves.

Hunter is the town sheriff now, but not because he was elected. Being an appointed official has ups and downs. While he's trying to figure out which it is today, he also is contending with suspicious deaths all around his town. Hunter knows that something bad is happening but isn't truly sure how to figure it out or smoke out those responsible. When he is in over his head, he knows it. But he also knows that he needs someone he can trust, and his deputies are not it.

Hunter and Sam have great chemistry. They are funny and feed off each other. I like the banter and the mystery within the romance. It was a well-balanced story with a lot going on, but in the end, it is resolved without leaving a lot of questions, which I appreciated. I look forward to reading more about these characters.

The writing styles of Lora Leigh and Veronica Chadwick mesh perfectly together in this book. One Tough Cowboy tells the story of Hunter and Samantha. It’s not what I would consider a second-chance romance, but more of a friends-to-lovers story.

Hunter and Samantha knew each other growing up and now Samantha is back in town for the funeral of her aunt. The thing is, there's been a lot of tragic 'accidents' in their small town in recent months and it seems a little too coincidental.

As Hunter and Samantha work together to get to the bottom of what's going on, the heat between them ignites and Hunter realizes that he doesn't want Samantha to leave. Samantha's not sure if coming home is what she wants, but knows that Hunter could be all she needs.

Veronica – ☆☆
One Tough Cowboy started out really well. Sheriff Hunter Steele is at the scene of what appears to be an accidental death, but it is the third one in their little town. It quickly becomes clear something else is going on and it involves their dodgy mayor.

When Samantha Ryde returns to town to bury her aunt after leaving 12 years earlier, sparks fly between her and Hunter. Samantha is a cop in Detroit and Samantha makes is clear to Hunter she knows her aunt’s death was no accident and is determined to find out what happened. And the stage is set for a really good romantic suspense story. Sparks are flying between Samantha and Hunter, Sam’s abusive ex shows up, and we learn the troubles in this town are much bigger than anyone thought. I was I was really enjoying myself.

Problem is, somewhere after the halfway point the book became more about our couple having copious amounts of sex and the suspense story got lost. I’d say they focused on romance but really, they just focused on the couple having sex. Then when the suspense was building and we were finally going to find out what is going on in this town and who is behind it, we stop for the couple to have another massive roll in the hay. I was so frustrated I nearly gave up reading with only 15% of the book left.

One Tough Cowboy started out as a really good romantic suspense story, but it really lost its way. Time that could have been spent developing the emotions between the characters or furthering the story was spent with the couple naked. And while I like naked time as much as the next girl, much of it in this book was pointless and added nothing to the story. In the end, One Tough Cowboy left me annoyed and disappointed.
