Mary – ☆☆☆☆
Chase Woodson lost his NHL career when the team he played for let him go. And on top of that, he is suddenly a single dad and headed back to his hometown. Chase never thought he would be back home, but now that he is, he needs a nanny for his twin boys.

Madison Kelly left for the big city of Austin to make her dreams come true. When it all goes south, she lives with her parents back home. She never forgave Chase for something that happened when she was in 8th grade.

Now Chase needs her to care for his twin boys. Can she accept without falling for him? Will Chase figure out what he did to make her hate him all those years ago?

I enjoyed this story, it was filled with pain from both characters' pasts, new love, funny and great twins, and a town filled with meddling people who want to see them together.

If you are looking for a good and enjoyable story, you need to read this one.


Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆
This is the first in a new series, and I am going to be looking out for the next one, for sure. I enjoyed the mix of ex-NFL worldliness, big city careers, and the return to small town reality that both the leads experience. That dichotomy of which is the best place to be, and the reasons why, is something that many of us understand, or others crave.

Chase finds himself home looking after his twin boys after a messy split from his less than motherly wife. Madison is home because she trusted the wrong man and he destroyed her business as well as her confidence. Neither is happy about being 'home' and neither is dealing well with thoughts of how the future may play out. These things even the playing field in a really clever way, and ensure that there is both dislike due to them being the same sex as their betrayer, but also empathy for the wrongs they have suffered – not that either explains that for quite a while!

I enjoyed this for its humour and for the inevitability of their relationship even if there are some entertaining twists and turns. An easy read with hints as to future installment leads... Madison's best friend definitely has to straighten out her BFF arrangement soon!

Mary – ☆☆☆☆☆
I couldn't wait for Brooks' story and I think it might be my favorite out of this whole series, and that is saying a lot because I love this series and hate to see it come to an end.

Brooks is the guy who has the hard assignments, he gets to date gorgeous women and has fun all while he is protecting them. But when Archer Bremen is his next assignment, it might be Brooks' heart that needs protecting. Brooks is drawn to Archer from their first meeting – and what a meeting it is. While Archer tries to get a rise out of Brooks, he doesn't let on that he is affected. Both men are attracted to each other, while Archer wants to explore more, Brooks isn't sure what to do.

I found that this story pulled me in from the very first page, I wanted to know what was happening and what was going to happen because these two men deserve it all. Although this story is filled with all the feels it takes to keep me invested in reading, I did miss one little character that always made me laugh.

So with that being said, you could read this one without reading the others, but why would you miss all of the wonderful stories in the rest of this awesome series? I will miss this group of characters from Blackbridge Security and will read them again and again.


Avid Reader – ☆☆☆
M/M Romance

So, this is Brooks' book. He's the guy who has to protect while pretending to be a significant other. When Brooks gets the assignment for Archer, neither realizes that their lives are about to change.

Archer is floundering from a big blow-up in his life. He wants to hide away, but with the damage control necessary, Archer hires Blackbridge Security to help guide his image to a less dangerous ground.

As Brooks and Archer wind their way through the relentless paps, Archer's bandmates, and Brooks' brothers at the security firm, they will either let their hearts guide them or their heads.

Unfortunately for me, this was one of the slower books. It took me until almost 70% of the book to truly become invested. It's slow moving and while there is some overlap from the previous book, it isn't until over half way through. You do not need to read the previous books to understand this one, but I did enjoy the previous books a lot more than this one. I almost gave up on Brooks, but I'm glad I stuck it out.

This book is in a series, but it can be read as a standalone.

Kit's story is one that we've seen bits and pieces of before. Kit has held a torch for his sister's best friend since he was a teenager. However, he knows that his sister put rules on her friends to not date the brothers. Now that Kit is in a kick-butt profession and has a family he loves, along with friends he would lay his life down for, when his sister finally finds happiness, he doesn't begrudge her, but he really does still love Jules. He can't help who he loves.

Jules has been part of Beth's family forever. When her mom died, she took solace in Kit's arms but knew that they could never be since Beth – her best friend and Kit's sister – had made her promise not to date her brothers. However, Jules knows that she wants to have a baby. She's been talking with Beth about it. Now, to just pull the trigger. When Beth gets married, Jules sees a perfect opportunity to finally find her happy ever after. But what she ends up getting is a mess of her own making.

As Kit and Jules navigate their newfound relationship, family and friends will have to navigate with them. This is a friends-to-lovers romance that is messy, just like life.

Love might conquer all, but it's not without its speed bumps. Does love make everything worth it? Can Kit and Jules truly ever be happy together?

Kit has been in love with Jules, his sister's BFF, since he was a teenager. If you look at his face when she is around, you can tell how he feels about her. Kit is the kind of guy any girl would be happy to have, he is sweet, kind, protective, and sexy as all get out.

Jules has been a part of Kit's family forever. She has been friends with his sister since grade school. She became closer when her mother died many years ago. So it was nothing to see Jules at family dinners on Sundays.

I found it easy to fall for Kit, he was fun, loving, and easy going. As with all of the men at Black Bridge Security. But I didn't like Jules very much, her ideas and ways of going about it were wrong and hurtful. It seems to me she was not trying to hurt anyone but in turn, she ended up hurting the ones who mattered most.

I loved the story overall, just not the way Jules went about it. In the end, it does end well for everyone. And we got a small glimpse of Puff Daddy the foul mouth bird, gotta love that bird.

I love this series and can't wait for the next one, which is Brook's story.

Controlled Burn by Marie James Release Blitz

As the mechanic for Blackbridge Security, when I make a mistake things don’t work properly.

Correcting that mistake is the only way to get things operational.

I meet issues in my personal life with the same mindset.

How was I to know the woman I’ve been flirting with at the gym is the same woman I called a noise complaint on?

I got her kicked out of her condo.

My first response: Move in with me.

When she confessed to having three kids, it was too late to back down.

I thought keeping my hands off of her was going to be a problem, but the tiny terrors she brought along with her are extremely effective at solving that problem for me.

This is the eighth book in the Blackbridge Security series, and I think it might be my favorite so far. How many single men are there left?

Finn is the mechanic of the team and loves the ladies, it doesn't hurt that he is Irish and has that sexy Irish accent that women seem to love. He noticed the new beauty in the building on the first day in the gym. He loves flirting with her, but he can't afford to take it any farther because of what happened the last time he dated someone who lived in the same building.

Kendall is down on her luck. Living with her brother while she saves money to buy a home for her and her three kids is rough, but she can do it. That is, until the landlord tells her she has 48 hours to move out. Why can't she catch a break, always being kicked when she is down. Finn offers help and she takes it. Can these two keep their hands off each other or will the sizzle between them combust and they go up in flames?

And you cannot forget Puff Daddy and Evie, the female bird brought into Puff's life and the fun begins for these two birds. You will laugh even harder than before with them. This series is worth reading but when you add a foul-mouth bird and a man-hating female bird, you get a hilarious scene that makes this one story to read.

I love this series and as I said I think this is my favorite so far. This story is filled with suspense, a single mom, three rambunctious kids, a sexy Irish man, Puff Daddy, chemistry that turns into love for family. I highly recommend this whole series.

But disaster strikes. Her kids were disrupting the neighbor and her brother gets an eviction! Now Kendall has to figure out where they are going to move to. To make matters worse, her brother has decided to move states!

Finn loves his job and his friends. He knows that he has a great gig. When the cute woman he sees in the gym flirts back, Finn can't wait to see where it might go. He has a life that any bachelor would dream of. But lately, his serene existence has been disrupted by thundering stampedes! He calls the landlord to see what it might be.

When Kendall realizes that it was her fun and flirty gym companion who got her and her kids kicked out of the building, she can't stand it. Why do all men suck?

As Finn realizes his own mistake, he offers Kendall a different alternative to the streets or homeless shelters. They have to figure out a way to make sure that the kids are taken care of and that Kendall's ex stays in the past.

As danger lurks in the corners and grocery stores, everyone who has come to love Kendall and her small family will encircle them to protect and allow them to thrive.

You won't be disappointed in this story. You'll cheer them on, boo the bad guys, and want to see the happily ever after that everyone dreams about.

Sleight of Hand by Marie James Release Blitz

Gaige Ward, acquisition expert for Blackbridge Security, obtains things for the team.

I was excited to see this book on my Kindle, I love the group at Blackbridge Security. Although this story has a little different feel to it, it is more focused on the couple than on the team. But it is still great.

Gaige Ward is the acquisitions expert at Blackbridge Security, when his boss tells him they need women on the team and he wants to see about adding a few, Gaige isn't sure what to say. He goes about his normal life. When he meets a woman at the bar one night, that is all he thinks it is, a one-night stand. What a surprise the next morning he gets at work.

Leighton Redmond was hand-picked by Deacon Black to be the woman to help get more women to work for Blackbridge Security. What she didn't expect after her night with "John" was to see him at the place she might be working.

Gaige and Leighton are perfect for each other, their chemistry is off the charts. Working well together is an added bonus. When he takes her to a family function, he realizes that there is more to his feelings than just a great time together.

Can they work things out and make a relationship work? Will she go back to New York? Can Gaige move on if she doesn't stay?

As I said, I love this series and this story is a little different, more focused on the couple. But the guys are still there at times and that bird is there too. I cannot wait for Finnegan's story.

Gaige loves his job. He loves the people he works with and respects the heck out of his boss. But he's always shied away from relationships. He likes all types of women and doesn't want to be held down to one. Life is too short for that.

Leighton is amazing at her job. Her family life, however, is somewhat of a mess. Looking to find some relief, she heads to the bar for the night. She knows the score and isn't looking for forever. After all, men suck. She knows she'll never have to see him again, so why not let loose a little?

Despite their passion, Gaige knows a clingy woman's eyes and he quickly puts the kibosh on Leighton's thinking that they will have another night. However, he does so in a manner that truly makes Leighton irate.

When Leighton heads to her new job, she doesn't expect to see Gaige again and turns around and leaves when she sees who's working at Blackbridge.

Knowing that he screwed up, Gaige tells his boss that he'll talk with Leighton and get her onboard again.

Leighton is dealing with a lot right now and this just piles on top. However, she wants to be the professional she is. So, she slaps on some lipstick, pulls up her big girl panties, and gets to work.

Despite their connection, they try to deny it for as long as they can. Their banter is fun, sexy and gives the story a lightheartedness that the others didn't have.

This book is by far the least dangerous of the Blackbridge Security romances. I actually thought it was rather ho-hum in that department. I wanted more from the conflict for sure. So, while I enjoyed the story, it was definitely a romance only story with almost no fast-paced aspects that I've come to expect from James' books. It's still a good romance though, so I look forward to what's next.

Jude Morris, the medic for the Blackbridge Security team, would hang out at the office in his spare time. He helped out with the gun safety courses sometimes. He noticed Parker Maxwell in that class immediately, she was everything he wasn't.

Parker enjoys spending time with men, never getting close because she didn't believe in commitment. There is something about Jude that draws them together. After there one night together, she knows that he will be clingy, so she wants to push him away. But she can't get him out of her mind.

When something happens at work, Parker goes to Jude, she doesn't want to talk. Jude wants to know what happened or she can leave. Parker can't believe what he is saying, so she leaves. Both of them are hurting because she can't trust what she is feeling for him.

Can they figure out who is after her and why? Will they give in to the feelings they are feeling or move on? Is there a chance for a relationship between Jude and Parker?

I love this series and I think this is my favorite story so far. I love that crazy bird Puff Daddy too; he is too funny and has the best timing.

This series has a suspenseful edge that will keep you intrigued and wanting to find out what happens next. And to know what happens with the couples involved. This author is worth recommending to anyone who loves alpha men and the women who love them.

Jude is quiet, likes his alone time, and isn't looking for anything serious. When he's roped in to helping out at a gun safety class, the last thing he expects is to see someone who finally catches his eye. Despite his reservations on the opposite sex, he knows that there's nothing wrong with finding someone to pass the time with, but he's also not quite sure if that's what he's looking for.

Parker is a take no prisoners, alpha woman all the way. She talks her good friend in to attending a gun safety class, but once there, she sees the shy, book-type instructor and can't help but salivate. When she shoves her business card at him and tells him when and where, she isn't quite sure if she'll see him or not.

Jude and Parker fall down the rabbit hole in their friendship. But when danger lurks around the corner for Parker, Jude will stop at nothing to make sure she's safe. Will Parker let him help her? Or are they doomed to just be friends with benefits because neither of them knows how to have a true, real relationship?

This is a fun story, but the romance was somewhat strange for me. It was more of a fling that turned into something more. While they had a connection, I don't necessarily think it was the strongest of connections, but it worked for the story.
