Cowboy Courage by Carolyn Brown

Love gets a second chance in this charming cowboy romance from the New York Times bestselling author of The Family Journal.

After spending years traveling the world with the military, Rose O'Malley is ready for a change. Heading back to Texas to hold down the fort at her aunt's bed-and-breakfast will give Rose just the break she needs. But while she may speak seven languages, she can't repair a leaky sink to save her life. When Hudson Baker strides in like a hero and effortlessly figures out the fix, Rose can't help wondering if the boy she once crushed on as a kid could now be her saving grace.

Hud has always been rock-solid and dependable—a quintessential cowboy to his core. But the moment Rose steps back into his life, his world is turned upside down by meddling family, a rescued baby, and one highly mischievous cat. Now he'll have to decide if it's time to throw caution to the wind and do whatever it takes to convince Rose that by her side is exactly where he wants to stay.

Includes the bonus novella, Wildflower Ranch, a continuation of Daisies in the Canyon.

M/F Romance

Rose is back in her aunts' lives and helping while one of her four aunts is traveling. While Rose is floundering a little in what her next steps are, she doesn't regret her years in the military. She is well spoken and looking to see if her love of languages will help her land a civilian job, or if she would be better off returning to the D.C. area to find work. While she is helping out at the B&B, she runs in to Hud, her once crush.

Hud has grown up well. He likes working on his ranch and likes his town. But running into Rose again takes his breath away. He sees that she has grown into a beautiful woman and loses his head a little when he sees her.

I wish that we had been given more information on Rose's background. There were hints, but not enough to truly understand her "baggage." Also, while the heroic actions of Hud were entertaining, it felt, at times, really drawn out. Especially since the relationship between Rose and Hud didn't really have conflict.

They had old chemistry that grew into new chemistry. And while Hud was saving people and Rose too, at times, they were really saving each other. So while it was a sweet story, I felt that there was missing background and the story was very drawn out.

The third book in the Masters & Mercenaries: The Forgotten series did not disappoint!

The Lost Boys are on another mission, this time to uncover information on the experiments Hope McDonald was performing on them in Munich. This mission is not only dangerous because of the information they're trying to uncover, but also because they have a traitor in their group.

Robert, the designated group's leader, has been attracted to Ariel, the group's psychologist. This has been a slow building romance. Both are interested in the other, but sometimes secrets and past lives get in the way of the present.

I refuse to give anything away but I will say this was a fully involved suspense story, the romance was slow building and HOT, the characters are all evolving into their own, and the action scenes were intense. We are left wanting for the next book, I need to see all the "boys" get their own happy ending.

Mary☆☆☆☆☆
This one picks up where book two ended with the "Lost Boys" trying to remember what they lost from their memories. Now they are in Germany following a lead and talking to people who worked with Dr. McDonald. Most of what they learn are rumors, but some are worth looking into farther.

Robert and Ariel are growing closer with each passing day. Dr. Ariel Adisa is the psychologist hired by McKay-Taggart to help the men regain their lost memories.

What will happen when someone from Robert's past shows up? Will this person be able to help the "Lost Boys" in any way? Can they regain their memories before it is too late? What happens if Levi gets the information before they do?

I really love this series, it is filled with suspense, intrigue, and a love story along the way. I can't wait to see what happens next. If you like romantic suspense with a twist, then this series is for you and I hope you love it as much as I do.

Ruthie☆☆☆☆☆
This is the third book in The Forgotten series, and oh my goodness I love this series so much. I have loved all the Masters & Mercenaries books, but these which concentrate on the Lost Boys are just fabulous. The drama is so intense, the feels for these strong men who have lost everything and yet are so good and keen to do right by the world. But do be clear, you really could not read this as a standalone and understand the underlying story, so please at least read the previous two books in this series.

I really don't want to spoil any of the richness of this next set of revelations, but I can promise that you will not be disappointed. I think everyone's situation moves forward... well maybe Solo and Ezra are still stuck in their crazy holding pattern, but more and more is being revealed, and even the men are starting to have memories and keep them. And as for hotness factor... well, I can assure you that you will not be disappointed, there is one scene which two days later is still making me blush at the sensuality it exudes – perfect!

A fabulous next installment, and as I was a little behind, I had the huge pleasure of going straight to the next one – what an absolute treat!

This is the third book and you do need to read the previous books if you want to follow the characters and what is happening in the story.

This is Robert’s story. It didn’t disappoint. We are still wondering why Levi Green is causing issues, but this time we get to see Ariel and Robert interact more. They have amazing chemistry and just when you think you know how they will react to their pasts... nothing is as it seems.

Ariel knows that in order to do her job, she has to know how to keep secrets. Despite knowing that, she is finding is very difficult to keep secrets from Robert. Someone is out to get them and it’s her job to figure out if any of the men she’s dedicated to helping aren’t who they seem to be.

Robert is who everyone looks to for leadership. He knows that his men are starting to become restless, even paranoid about what is happening to them and around them. Robert is trying to keep his men safe, all while helping them figure out their pasts. When he finally takes the plunge with Ariel, what he doesn’t expect are feelings that he can’t control to rule him. He knows that Ariel and he are compatible. He knows that he loves her. But what he doesn’t know is if he can trust her.

Danger comes from all directions and knowing who to trust is difficult. This book keeps you on your toes and you are constantly guessing as to what might happen next. I can’t wait to see what happens next and really am hoping for more answers than questions. You won’t be disappointed.

Vendetta Road by Christine Feehan

#1 New York Times bestselling author Christine Feehan pushes the limits in her next novel in the Torpedo Ink series.

Isaak “Ice” Koval is on a club mission when he sees a woman who stops him dead in his tracks. Soleil is a sweet, sexy, girl-next-door type. She’s an innocent who should be nowhere near the rough-and-ready world of the Torpedo Ink motorcycle club. But Ice knows Soleil belongs with him—and he’ll do whatever it takes to keep her.

After a life of drifting from one thing to the next, Soleil Brodeur is determined to take control of her life. When her breakup with her manipulative fiancé turns ugly, Soleil searches out the stranger who offered her a lifeline and ends up in a Las Vegas biker bar where she meets a gorgeous, dangerous man straight out of her most secret fantasies.

High on adrenaline, she finds herself falling faster than she thought possible. But Soleil knows little about the territory she’s stumbled into, and even less about what it really means to be Ice’s woman…

Soleil ran through the lobby, uncaring of turning heads. One didn’t run in a very swank hotel. She wanted to grab security, but Winston had a way of talking that made her look hysterical or childish and him look totally controlled, the adult having to put up with tantrums. She wasn’t about to take chances, not when she knew they planned to kill her.

Who would believe her? Her own fiancé? A lawyer? A policeman? All conspiring to kill her? She would look crazy and Winston would explain she’d lost Bennet, the only one she had as family. He would get sympathy and understanding, and they would all look to him to take care of her. He’d probably sedate her. Did he have a doctor involved too? It was possible. She’d met one through him, one he considered important.

She burst out onto the street, her lungs hurting. Clearly, she needed more exercise if she was going to have to run for her life. Her thoughts were wild and a little hysterical. She couldn’t have that. It would only play into Winston’s hand. She raced to the crosswalk, and fortunately the light changed and there were few people in her way. She was able to cross quickly and get into the relative shelter of the hotel-casino on the next street.

Noise erupted all around her. The concentrated smoke from cigarettes threatened to choke her. For a moment, she paused, a little disoriented. The whiskey she’d drunk was making her feel a lot better. Clearer. She knew exactly what to do. She made her way through the casino with more dignity, not wanting to draw attention to herself.

The casino floor was set up so that the exits were difficult to get to. Every little turn put her in front of card tables, the roulette wheel, craps, or, when she managed to find her way through the maze, machines. A sea of them. They didn’t matter. The drinks had finally steadied her, and she was feeling as if she was in control and could do this.

Still, it was a good distance to the exits and it took her a few minutes to make her way to the other side of the room. The casino was enormous, so much so that she knew she’d probably covered a block at least. She had to have. But she walked with more confidence and less panic. Every now and then, just to be certain, she glanced over her shoulder, or paused at a machine to see if Winston was behind her. So far, her plan had worked. Most likely, he’d gone out onto the strip and worried she’d hailed a cab or taken one of the hotel’s private limos. She was afraid to do that. He could trace a cab and he’d talk any driver into coming back for him.

She thought about getting another drink, but she hadn’t eaten. Already she was much clearer in what she had to do. She felt very courageous. It only took a couple of times going in a small circle before she mastered the maze of machines and was able to push open the door that let her out onto the street. The lights were much dimmer, but still illuminated the sidewalk.

She looked left and right. She was right in the middle of the block. Across the street, neon blue signs flashed, and the sound of music was loud. Each of the bars seemed to be playing a different song, but she loved to dance and the one on the end at the right blared the best music. She headed in that direction and then changed her mind, a little shiver going through her. She knew Winston. He would hire men to find her. He would call the police and report her missing, saying she had a mental disorder and he was worried for her safety. This street was still too close.

She hurried down the block to the next line of bars. The streets seemed darker, and as she came around the corner, a few men standing on the sidewalk in front of a bar looked up, nudging one another. Alarms went off and she paused to get oriented. Just in front of her was another bar blaring dancing music and in front of it were motorcycles, instantly reminding her of Lana. Her heart jumped. Lana. She hurried toward that one without hesitation. If Lana was there, she would know what to do. She was that kind of woman.

Ruthie☆☆☆☆
This is the third in the series, but the first that I have read. I may have to go back and catch up, as this band of outlaws have a history which makes them even more intriguing than the usual membership of an MC.

We are very quickly catapulted into the dangerous world which Ice inhabits, but also by the high standards which the MC observes when dealing with the downtrodden, especially women and children – as the book progresses we also get to learn why (so if this is your first book in the series, then like me you will soon be brought up to speed). A chance sighting of Soleil gives Ice a jolt and even hope. That by the end of the day they have met – and a whole lot more – is the ultimate in serendipity and the start of an amazing adventure for them both.

Soleil has never belonged, and only ever been used. Her solo life has led her to have a healthy disregard for risk, and yet she is currently in a very dangerous situation, as an overheard conversation confirms. This sets up perfectly the scenario where a young rich woman feels safer in a room full of bikers than in her five-star hotel. And the most entertaining "it was my fault" morning after that I have ever read! I refuse to say more, as you should enjoy it as it unfolds, but rest assured this is a good read.

I am now definitely looking forward to the next installment in this series.

Mary Jo☆☆☆☆

Christine Feehan's stories just keep getting better and better. Vendetta Road tells the story of two people who have had traumatic lives but who are not afraid to love. Ice's journey has seen him tortured in ways that no child (or adult) should ever experience and Soleil's lack of family is truly heartbreaking.

Soleil's life has been a series of tragedies. She lost her parents at a young age, the aunt she was sent to live with died, and her other aunt abused her because the aunt was not given free range of Soleil's trust fund. Growing up as a nomad, but no place to call home, she looked to her lawyer, Kevin, as her true north.

Meeting Winston and subsequently getting involved with him has been her biggest mistake. After Kevin dies in an accident, Winston begins his slow but steady quest to make Soleil reliant on him. When she once again refuses to marry him, Winston becomes violent and Soleil makes a run for it – straight into the arms of Ice.

Ice is part of the Torpedo Ink MC and one of the good guys, even if he doesn't believe it. He has done things that would make another person insane all in the name of protecting his siblings. Even though he was forced to do evil as a child through adulthood, he believes that he's to blame. The guilt is weighing on him and there are days when he believes the burden is too heavy to carry much longer.

When he meets Soleil, the weight of his past is lessened and he feels contentment for the first time in his life. He knows that Soleil is in trouble and there is nothing he won't do to keep her safe.

This is a gritty book filled with both angst and love. This book shows that just because you grew up in the dark doesn't mean you can't live in the light.

Spoiler-Free Review

Wicked Bite is the second installment in the Night Rebel series, which is a spinoff of the Night Huntress series, where Ian was first introduced. While a reader could navigate the Night Rebel series without reading the original, without much confusion, I do suggest reading all the novels in series order for optimum entertainment value and emotional connection.

Jeaniene Frost has a way with words, managing to draw deep emotions while also adding much-needed snark during the most stressful of events. All around, highly entertaining, with original world building, and multi-dimensional characters that are engaging, and a hefty dose of steamy romance.

Ian and Veritas have an intoxicating, yet realistic dynamic, especially considering how this is Urban Fantasy. The balance and deep connection, even when events happen that should have pulled them apart. I'm trying to be vague, as these are major plot points. Ian feeling the draw toward Veritas, even with everything that has separated them.

Wicked Bite is filled with thrilling action, original paranormal elements, smexy romance, snarky humor, and a trip through various locales. Be forewarned, the novel ends on a mother of a cliffhanger.

Jeaniene Frost is the New York Times, USA Today, and international bestselling author of the Night Huntress series and the Night Huntress World novels. To date, foreign rights for her novels have sold to nineteen different countries. Jeaniene lives in North Carolina with her husband Matthew, who long ago accepted that she rarely cooks and always sleeps in on the weekends. Aside from writing, Jeaniene enjoys reading, poetry, watching movies with her husband, exploring old cemeteries, spelunking and traveling—by car. Airplanes, children, and cookbooks frighten her.

Anyone but Nick by Penelope Bloom

The third novel in USA Today bestselling author Penelope Bloom’s Anyone But… series sizzles with a sexy and hilarious story about letting go of the past to chase the love of a lifetime.

Seven years ago, I swore I’d never date Nick King. Ever.

Now I’m supposed to work under him—and no, despite the way he glares like he wants to strip me bare, I mean he’ll be my boss. But what better way to prove I’m really over him, right?

I was a nerdy overachiever in high school, and Nick was my hopeless crush. I even laminated a note he passed to me; granted, I had a thing for laminators, but that’s beside the point.

Now, my only shot at getting my life back on track is to crawl to him on my knees and pray I nail the interview. Maybe I should pray that’s the only thing that gets nailed in his office—especially since he looks like he wants to devour me.

Nick broke my heart once. But hey, I’m still pretty handy with a laminator. Maybe I could run my heart through one before I take this job.

This is the third book in the series, and I would recommend that you read them in order to get the full story. Three brothers return to their childhood town and the three now grown women who vowed to never have anything to do with them are still there. We have seen two fall already, but now the most put together, Miranda, is the one who has to resist the charms of Nick.

In the beginning Nick really doesn't seem to have any charm at all, and he has no interest at all in copying his brothers into a serious relationship – or indeed any relationship. Miranda too is far too invested in restoring her good career record and even if that means being VP to Nick's CEO, she will do it. It is very entertaining as we watch on, knowing that somehow Penelope Bloom is going to get this whole situation resolved, however hard they fight it.

It was really good to see how the two couples are progressing in their lives, and we finally get to discover the reason why the oath was sworn in the first place. I loved how the situation went full circle by the end – it was immensely satisfying and left me thinking I would definitely reread this trilogy, and all in one go, to get the whole story in one go.

Sarah☆☆☆☆☆
This is the story of a journalist who falls hard for the lead singer of the band he joins on tour. As always with a Garrett Leigh book, the characters are complicated and messy and the attraction that flares between Shay and Ollie isn’t easy. I loved the music and I loved the way Ollie brings Shay’s past to life. It’s a beautiful story that I thoroughly enjoyed.

This is definitely a book that needs a soundtrack, and readers who want to understand Shay’s music need to stream some Skinny Lister to get a proper feel for the ‘Shanty Punk’ his band plays. I love that the music has soul and I love that this isn’t just another rock star romance. Shay is a little bit magic and a little bit tortured genius and I love how he slowly lets Ollie into his life.

It took me a bit longer to warm to Ollie, but once I understood his gritty secrets I couldn’t help but fall hard for him. I love the passion he has for his work almost as much as I love his vulnerability. Ollie and Shay aren’t an obvious match but the chemistry between them is fabulous.

Beyond Ollie and Shay, I love Shay’s eccentric band members and the family that keeps both men grounded. The characters in this story are as beautiful as the music and this was a complete pleasure read for me.

Ruthie☆☆☆☆☆
This was a very enjoyable book to read – the characters, from the leads to the rest of the band, are all interesting, engaging, and though flawed, all decent human beings. It was refreshing not to have extreme drama in a band, but rather a real camaraderie and feeling that they all cared for each other and their wellbeing. That said, there is a good mix of dark and light and without doubt, the chemistry between Shay and Ollie has the reader willing it to go well from very early on in the story.

As Shay and his band tour, he will have his past revealed to him by documentary maker, Ollie. Adopted when very young, Shay has really only known his Irish parents, and his music is part of that identity. As his blood ancestry is uncovered, there is an enticing mix of nurture and nature that have gone to form the person that he is. That this happens thanks to the man he is falling for is somehow fitting, as they share something very personal as well as accepting the strong physical attraction that they have.

Ollie has his own issues, which make travelling on tour quite a challenge, but as we and Shay get to learn and understand his fears, he also finds a reason to move forward – Shay.

Thank you, Garrett Leigh, for a really lovely read!

I really enjoyed this book about Knox and Aubrey and their road to romance.

Their relationship starts off as friends with benefits and gradually they both begin to have feelings for each other. Aubrey's reluctance to acknowledge her feelings for Knox stems from her fear of losing her focus on her business. She knows that people "can have it all" but it's not something she believes she can have.

Knox has been falling in love with Aubrey since the first night they hooked up. He doesn't understand her reluctance to take their relationship to the next level but he's confident that if he stays the course, Aubrey will give their relationship a chance.

Knox gets that chance and he does everything he can to make sure that Aubrey knows that her dreams are as important to him as his own.

Melissa Foster books are good for the soul and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book.

All of Melissa Foster's books have links to others, so a regular reader will enjoy finding the connections and tying together families and places. I loved that the fictitious online book club that all faithful fans wish they could join not only gets a mention, but even gets some new members!

Knox and Aubrey have been hooking up for the last couple of years, mainly after high profile charity events that they support. She is so not into being in a relationship that brief one off liaisons are all she is prepared to indulge herself in, but she is starting to realise that Knox has become more than just chance – and that is a worry. Her work is key, she has made a huge success of her working life, and has no intention of being taken off track.

Knox is well aware that he is very invested in Aubrey, and yet plays by her rules, as that is better than no Aubrey at all... But that is now starting to get old and somehow, he needs to have a breakthrough. He has the strong support of both his and her assistants, which has ensured that they attended the same events, but he needs more from them to succeed.

I loved how the story developed and how Knox was prepared to make the effort to wait for Aubrey to come to terms with her feelings and then change her world view to be able to enjoy not being at work, not denying her own desires.

Another very romantic and engaging story, with plenty of old and new friends who will no doubt deserve their own happily ever afters in future installments – I cannot wait!
