Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆☆
This is the eighth book in the series, and I would definitely recommend that you read them all in order, to really get the full story. It is pretty complicated, and intense, so dropping in at this stage could be pretty confusing. I would add that each one is fabulous, so why would you want to miss out. Feehan has created an amazing band of people who have lived through a totally horrific childhood, and yet are now finding their special person and learning how life changing that is.

Master (Kir) has a very difficult role in the group and feels that he loses his last vestiges of humanity each time he has to go into prison. So when he meets Ambrie, little can he imagine that she will be part of his future. She turns out to be much more than he could ever expect. and I love that they share a deep interest in mathematics and logic. I cannot tell you how amazing this love story is, and how unlikely. I cannot tell you more, because I am convinced you will thank me!

It is almost impossible for me to explain how intense, how dark, and how delicious this book is. Every installment I think that it cannot be surpassed, but this is quite possibly my favourite yet.

This book didn't hold my attention the way the other books in this series has. The insta-love between Ambrie and Master seems a bit forced. I understand attraction and how it makes people do crazy things, but for me, it just didn't work in this couple.

Also, the way that Master is treated by his brothers left me torn. I realize that it's Master's place to stand up for himself, but it's also his brothers' place to pay attention to Master to make sure that he's okay. And while I understand Czar's protective instinct to put his wife and children first, no one should have to pay for those lives with their own.

Ambrie is a smart cookie and does what she needs to do to survive. However, she's a bit whiny and over the top.

This is the second part of Savage's story.

In this book, the reader was able to feel Seychelle's emotional struggle to connect with Savage. Savage's nature is to protect those he loves and in doing that, he doesn't always feel the need to share information with others. Seychelle’s need to know outweighs her love for Savage, and that point is proven when against her wishes, Savage leaves when Czar calls him out on Ink business.

This book shows both Savage's and Seychelle's growth as individuals and as a couple.

I have to say, this is the one of the best books in the series.


Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆
This is the seventh book in the series, and I would highly recommend that you read them in order – you absolutely have to have read Annihilation Road though, as it is the first half of this story.

Savin and Seychelle are newly together, and trying to navigate the complicated future that is ahead of them. Savin holds all the knowledge, although the link between them means that Seychelle sees more than he wishes. He spends much of the book trying to understand how she can possibly want to be with him. It is an amazing balance of love, need, and pain. Christine Feehan has an amazing skill for just taking the reader right to the edge of the cliff, tension bleeding into every move. Exciting, exhausting, and completely unputdownable from the very beginning.

I can't really say more, as you need to read it and experience it yourself – not easy, but utterly fascinating.

This book is the next story in the Torpedo Ink series. It is a standalone, however the reader will have a greater insight to the men and women of Torpedo Ink if they have read the entire series.

This series is a departure from Feehan's other works in that it explores what happened to the members of Torpedo Ink when they were sent to a school in Russia that was supposed to train them how to use their psychic abilities. In reality, the school was for the children of known or suspected dissidents whom the "teachers" would perform heinous experiments on in the name of science.

Torpedo Ink, formed by the survivors of the school, is a motorcycle club and its main mission is to rescue children that have been taken, stand up for those who can't, and to protect their community.

Each member of Torpedo Ink has one special psychic ability that is different from the others. Savage's ability is to pull the anger and rage from his brothers and sisters, which allows that person to think without the cloud of that rage coloring any decisions they need to make. However, Savage does not have an easy way to release all of the pent-up anger inside of him other than to inflict pain on others or himself.

When he hears Seychelle sing, a feeling of peace comes over him. Seychelle is a healer, and her ability to take others’ pain and suffering (including the illness) is slowly killing her. She has never been taught how to control her psychic abilities and her nature is to help even when it's hurting her.

Savage and Seychelle lead very different lives, and while Savage tries to stay away from, and then remain only friends with Seychelle, he realizes that she is the only one who may be able to calm his soul. And he may be the only person who can help Seychelle control her abilities so that she can live a long, fruitful life.

Feehan's writing brings the reader in slowly and lets you get to know the characters and how they feel about events as they are happening. With this book, you can see how Savage tries really hard not to fall for Seychelle as he does not want to ease his pain by marking her body.

There is a second part to this book – Savage Road – that has not been released yet.


Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆
This is the sixth book in the series – and I would definitely say that you should read them in order, as our understanding of Torpedo Ink and what the men and women have lived through to get here. It is pretty harrowing, amazing, and somehow life affirming.

Finally, the man who believes himself to be an absolute monster and the one who takes on all the pain and rage from his friends and doles out the punishments to others. Somehow his backstory is even more harrowing than that of the others, so be prepared to be shocked and understanding... and then furious with him for his behaviour too. He is flawed, but far more human than he gives himself credit for... and it is a pleasure when Seychelle gets under his skin and makes him feel. But the road is not easy to believing he has value, so the ride is not an easy one.

Seychelle is a really interesting and engaging character, with a gift that one might think of as a curse, but with Savage's help, there is hope for her, as well as intense chemistry and definite signs of love.

Great to catch up with the gang, their new loves, children, and reformed attitude to life. Enjoy!

Absinthe opened the door to the restaurant for her, scanning the room quickly for potential trouble before allowing her to do the same thing while he turned back toward the street and gave that another quick once-over. Certain no one was paying attention to either of them, he closed the door and followed his librarian’s amazing ass. She was in a black skirt with small white polka dots scattered over it. The material clung to her curves. He appreciated that particular skirt very much.

Absinthe held the back of her chair for her, ignoring the waiter who looked as if he might conk him on the head and abscond with the girl. She looked regal as she took the seat, smiling up at Absinthe, nearly taking his breath away. Whatever it was that she had affected him like some kind of aphrodisiac. Her small teeth. That mouth with her full, pouty lips that were made for a man’s dirtiest fantasies. He hadn’t had them until she came along. Not like this. Mostly he’d had nightmares. The erotic, very graphic dreams were a welcome change.

“Are you a wine drinker?” Absinthe didn’t know the first thing about wine. He could make her any kind of drink she wanted, or talk beer, but wine eluded him. If she loved wine, he was going to be taking a crash course. It wouldn’t take him long to catch up.

She shook her head. “I actually don’t drink very much. Once in a while, if it’s really hot out, I’ll have an ice-cold beer. But other than that, it’s a very occasional drink and usually I go for something girly like a cosmopolitan.”

“I don’t drink wine,” Absinthe admitted. “Like you I’m not a big drinker, but mostly that stems from wanting to be alert all the time.”

“You don’t put your feet up, relax and have tons to drink?” There was the merest hint of amusement in her voice. Mostly she was serious.

He loved the look on her face when she gave him her full attention. He focused completely on her once he was certain the few couples already eating or waiting to be served weren’t interested in them in the least.

“No, that wouldn’t work for me. I do like to put my feet up though,” he admitted. “I’m going to be very up-front with you.” It was confession time. If he didn’t say it straight up, she’d find out anyway. “I’m not good at this. I never know what to say and I come off stilted and awkward, but I don’t want to be that way with you.”

Her green eyes were hard to stay still under. She seemed to see right through his skull into his mind where chaos reigned—thanks to her.

“I’m not so great at this either,” she declared. “I guess we’re going to have to learn. I’m very competitive and I have a fast learning curve. Very fast. Wait.” She frowned at him. “You weren’t reading a help book on dating, were you?”

“Do they have those in the library?”

Her lashes swept down and then back up. A small smile teased the curve of her mouth, causing his heart to accelerate. He found himself staring. Shit. He was going to lose before he got started because he couldn’t stop staring at her.

She laughed. “I’m not telling you. I’ll read them and turn into a scintillating conversationalist in minutes, leaving you in the dust.”

He instantly learned three things. There were multiple self-help books on dating, she read extremely fast, and she really was competitive. He flashed a small grin, looking at her with hawk-like eyes, giving her the predator look just for a moment. Just to see the shiver that crept down her spine.

“I’ll have to be there first thing in the morning before your shift.”

“You know my shifts?” The smile faded, and she sounded uneasy.

He shrugged. “How was I going to ask you out? I went multiple times without seeing you, so clearly you had a shift and only came into the library during those times. I kept having to trade work with friends, and drive here from the coast, so, I found out when you worked. I came as often as I could, and just waited until we’d established a very tentative woman can charm the socks right off a shy man any day of the week.”

“Is that what we established?”

Her laughter got him every time. He found himself actually relaxing. The waiter hovered, and both guiltily studied the menu. She ordered a pasta dish and he ordered a steak. Fresh-baked bread was put on the table, and he suddenly realized he was very hungry.

4.5 stars of painful but wonderful reading!

This is the fourth book in the series – I would definitely recommend that you read them in order, as they do follow on in time, and as each member of Torpedo Ink gets their happily ever after, it impacts on the group as a whole.

Not an easy book to read for many reasons, but incredibly beauty and love shines through all the darkness. Absinthe had a terrible life from when he was a toddler, trained as an assassin and a plaything for evil perverts, but he now lives free with his brothers and sisters who survived. They are bonded to each other and live to keep each other safe and to free those who have been enslaved or harmed to lessen evil where they can. They also all developed talents which go beyond the usual and for Absinthe, that means taking on the pain of others. It may free them of some of the worst of their nightmares, but it costs him a lot. So when he finds peace in the presence of Scarlet, a librarian in a nearby town, he knows he has hit gold.

Whilst Scarlet's traumas are somewhat different to Absinthe's, they have changed everything about the life she should have led. As we learn why and what happened to her, it is clear that she has the strength to support Absinthe and the need to have a family again. That they both have such strong talents of insight and empathy brings them closer, but the sexual chemistry is explosive too.

High drama, horrible violence, and corruption give this story some real edge, but at its heart is the redemption of a much abused man and an abused woman, who discover in each other their peace.

Beautiful, heart wrenching, and one of those books that I could not stop reading – so it was fortune I had no other urgent plans!

This book is about two people with vastly different childhoods, who both endured horrendous tragedies with the sole purpose of just surviving another day.

Absinthe grew up in a hellish "boys school" in Russia after a mobster killed his parents for not voluntarily giving up their children. His brother died in that terrible place before the members of Torpedo Ink were able to escape their tormentors. Ab has blamed himself for years for failing to protect his brother and for his part in "soothing" the rest of his family (the other children who are now members of the club) into enduring the torture placed upon them. The guilt that Ab has is slowly eroding his soul and he cannot see a way out of the darkness. Until he stumbles up a small town library and the librarian therein.

Scarlet Foley has her own scars, emotional as well as physical. Having been the victim of a sexual assault, the father of one of the boys – an influential man – managed to have the tables turned and while Scarlet was serving time in prison, her younger sister was also assaulted, which led to the deaths of Scarlet's entire family. Upon release from prison, Scarlet has trained herself to be steady and stealthy and very dangerous.

When Ab steps foot into her little library, she knows that nothing in her world will ever be the same. Knowing she can't put Ab in danger, she tries to distance herself from him, but he won't let her. Scarlet is the one person that soothes his soul and gives him peace.

The book is not for the faint of heart, but if you want to read about two people who have overcome the traumas in their lives to find a peace within themselves, this book is for you.

Soleil ran through the lobby, uncaring of turning heads. One didn’t run in a very swank hotel. She wanted to grab security, but Winston had a way of talking that made her look hysterical or childish and him look totally controlled, the adult having to put up with tantrums. She wasn’t about to take chances, not when she knew they planned to kill her.

Who would believe her? Her own fiancé? A lawyer? A policeman? All conspiring to kill her? She would look crazy and Winston would explain she’d lost Bennet, the only one she had as family. He would get sympathy and understanding, and they would all look to him to take care of her. He’d probably sedate her. Did he have a doctor involved too? It was possible. She’d met one through him, one he considered important.

She burst out onto the street, her lungs hurting. Clearly, she needed more exercise if she was going to have to run for her life. Her thoughts were wild and a little hysterical. She couldn’t have that. It would only play into Winston’s hand. She raced to the crosswalk, and fortunately the light changed and there were few people in her way. She was able to cross quickly and get into the relative shelter of the hotel-casino on the next street.

Noise erupted all around her. The concentrated smoke from cigarettes threatened to choke her. For a moment, she paused, a little disoriented. The whiskey she’d drunk was making her feel a lot better. Clearer. She knew exactly what to do. She made her way through the casino with more dignity, not wanting to draw attention to herself.

The casino floor was set up so that the exits were difficult to get to. Every little turn put her in front of card tables, the roulette wheel, craps, or, when she managed to find her way through the maze, machines. A sea of them. They didn’t matter. The drinks had finally steadied her, and she was feeling as if she was in control and could do this.

Still, it was a good distance to the exits and it took her a few minutes to make her way to the other side of the room. The casino was enormous, so much so that she knew she’d probably covered a block at least. She had to have. But she walked with more confidence and less panic. Every now and then, just to be certain, she glanced over her shoulder, or paused at a machine to see if Winston was behind her. So far, her plan had worked. Most likely, he’d gone out onto the strip and worried she’d hailed a cab or taken one of the hotel’s private limos. She was afraid to do that. He could trace a cab and he’d talk any driver into coming back for him.

She thought about getting another drink, but she hadn’t eaten. Already she was much clearer in what she had to do. She felt very courageous. It only took a couple of times going in a small circle before she mastered the maze of machines and was able to push open the door that let her out onto the street. The lights were much dimmer, but still illuminated the sidewalk.

She looked left and right. She was right in the middle of the block. Across the street, neon blue signs flashed, and the sound of music was loud. Each of the bars seemed to be playing a different song, but she loved to dance and the one on the end at the right blared the best music. She headed in that direction and then changed her mind, a little shiver going through her. She knew Winston. He would hire men to find her. He would call the police and report her missing, saying she had a mental disorder and he was worried for her safety. This street was still too close.

She hurried down the block to the next line of bars. The streets seemed darker, and as she came around the corner, a few men standing on the sidewalk in front of a bar looked up, nudging one another. Alarms went off and she paused to get oriented. Just in front of her was another bar blaring dancing music and in front of it were motorcycles, instantly reminding her of Lana. Her heart jumped. Lana. She hurried toward that one without hesitation. If Lana was there, she would know what to do. She was that kind of woman.

This is the third in the series, but the first that I have read. I may have to go back and catch up, as this band of outlaws have a history which makes them even more intriguing than the usual membership of an MC.

We are very quickly catapulted into the dangerous world which Ice inhabits, but also by the high standards which the MC observes when dealing with the downtrodden, especially women and children – as the book progresses we also get to learn why (so if this is your first book in the series, then like me you will soon be brought up to speed). A chance sighting of Soleil gives Ice a jolt and even hope. That by the end of the day they have met – and a whole lot more – is the ultimate in serendipity and the start of an amazing adventure for them both.

Soleil has never belonged, and only ever been used. Her solo life has led her to have a healthy disregard for risk, and yet she is currently in a very dangerous situation, as an overheard conversation confirms. This sets up perfectly the scenario where a young rich woman feels safer in a room full of bikers than in her five-star hotel. And the most entertaining "it was my fault" morning after that I have ever read! I refuse to say more, as you should enjoy it as it unfolds, but rest assured this is a good read.

I am now definitely looking forward to the next installment in this series.

Ice's journey has seen him tortured in ways that no child (or adult) should ever experience and Soleil's lack of family is truly heartbreaking.

Soleil's life has been a series of tragedies. She lost her parents at a young age, the aunt she was sent to live with died, and her other aunt abused her because the aunt was not given free range of Soleil's trust fund. Growing up as a nomad, but no place to call home, she looked to her lawyer, Kevin, as her true north.

Meeting Winston and subsequently getting involved with him has been her biggest mistake. After Kevin dies in an accident, Winston begins his slow but steady quest to make Soleil reliant on him. When she once again refuses to marry him, Winston becomes violent and Soleil makes a run for it – straight into the arms of Ice.

Ice is part of the Torpedo Ink MC and one of the good guys, even if he doesn't believe it. He has done things that would make another person insane all in the name of protecting his siblings. Even though he was forced to do evil as a child through adulthood, he believes that he's to blame. The guilt is weighing on him and there are days when he believes the burden is too heavy to carry much longer.

When he meets Soleil, the weight of his past is lessened and he feels contentment for the first time in his life. He knows that Soleil is in trouble and there is nothing he won't do to keep her safe.

This is a gritty book filled with both angst and love. This book shows that just because you grew up in the dark doesn't mean you can't live in the light.

Breezy Simmons leaned against her pickup for a moment, staring at the large building that housed the Torpedo Ink Motorcycle Club. Her heart beat so hard in her chest she was afraid she might vomit. The world spun uncontrollably, and she quickly leaned down, putting her head between her legs, drawing in great gulps of air. She caught a glimpse of two men on the other side of the compound as her head went toward the asphalt, and she didn’t recognize either of them. That made her pounding heart sink.

She couldn’t possibly have the wrong club. This had to be them. She was running out of time and options. She slowly righted herself and took another cautious look around. The two men stared at her from across the parking lot. She was careful not to look at them too long. She didn’t want them coming anywhere near her. She needed to get in and out very fast.

The Torpedo Ink compound was extremely large and had a high chain-link fence surrounding it. There was even razor wire up on top of the fence, making the place look like a fortress. The rolling gates were wide open, and she’d driven her truck right inside, parking as close to the clubhouse as possible. She deliberately left the door to her beat-up pickup open and the engine running. Hopefully, no one recognized her, and she could get in and out of the building quickly, once she asserted these were the right people, the ones she was looking for.

In the early morning hours, the club was just beginning to stir. Clearly, they’d partied hard over the weekend. In the enormous side yard, the one with the beautiful ocean view, she could see embers in fire pits glowing as the breeze stirred them up. A man with his back to her watered them down with a hose. He wore a tight tee and jeans, but no colors. Still, she knew this was the home of the club that called itself Torpedo Ink. She sent up a silent prayer that this was the one she’d been looking for.

There were empty bottles strewn around the grass and on the ground to the side of the building in the wide expanse of open field. Cars, motorcycles and trucks were scattered around the parking lot, although no one parked where the club did. Their motorcycles were lined up neatly and a prospect watched over them. He sat on the curb looking at her. She was parked too close to the precious bikes, but she didn’t care—other than it had drawn the attention of the prospect.

Another long line of motorcycles was parked a short distance down from the clubhouse and a prospect watched over those bikes as well. He looked at her without much interest, which indicated to her that these bikes belonged to a visiting club. He wasn’t as interested in protecting the grounds as the one closest to the clubhouse.

She had to get this over with. Just being in such close proximity to an MC made her sick. The fact that she knew what went on at the party made her even sicker. That this might be his club, and she had to risk running into him, made all that far worse.

Breezy squared her shoulders, dragged the envelope off the seat and turned all in one motion. The prospect was on his feet. If she knew for certain this was the right club, she would have thrust the letter into his hands and left, but she was guessing from a process of elimination.

She purposely hadn’t kept track of him, especially when she’d heard, a year after she’d left, that eighteen members of the Swords had set up the international president for assassination and had, allegedly, wiped out a number of members and then disappeared. She knew who those eighteen members were immediately and knowing them, she knew it was possible when others said it wasn’t. She’d run as far from the life as she could and now she was pulled right back in.

It’s a good idea to read the books in order so you won't be lost, but I think this book could be read as a standalone.

Steele is the VP of Torpedo Ink. They are a biker club who are seeking to right some of the wrongs of the world. The men and women of Torpedo Ink were raised in "boarding schools" in Russia, where they learned things that most adults never do: how to fight, seduce people, and how to kill. Those who were strong, survived. The survivors carry the guilt and weight of those who did not.

Steele met Breezy when he infiltrated her father's biker gang. That club was part of a larger group that trafficked men, women, and children for their own enjoyment and monetary gain. Steele loves Breezy but he knows that he has to send her away so that when the club falls, she will not be caught in the middle.

Now, she's back. It’s been three years since he sent her packing and he hasn't been able to find her. She hid herself well, but her father and brother managed to find her and now they are using something she holds near and dear against her, to make her do their bidding. Kill Steele.

When Steele finds out that they beat up Breezy and are now holding their son hostage until they know for sure that Steele is dead, he's determined to bring down everyone that had a hand in hurting Breezy and their child.

The characters of Steele and Breezy are well written and the reader can feel the emotions humming on the page. Both Steele and Breezy have a lot of guilt and angst to confront and deal with before they can truly make a relationship work.

I enjoyed this story and can't wait for the next book in the series.
