“Representing the most perfect example of quality or class” ~ Quintessential
A trip back to the small Indiana town of Riverbend to finalize my grandmother’s
last will and testament throws my world off its axis. I wasn’t prepared to
learn the stipulations of her will or that she’d left her beloved mercantile
Quintessential Treasures to my college summertime love, Kandace Sheers.
Imagine my greater surprise when I learn about the secret that’s been roaming
Riverbend for the last five years. Here are a couple of hints:
She’s five years old.
She has her mother’s silky auburn hair and my golden eyes.
The answer is simple.
I take responsibility for the girl and go back to Chicago where my life awaits.
It turns out, Grandma had other plans because life’s never that simple.

M/F Second-Chance Romance
This story is set both in the past and present. Romig goes back and forth in a
way that allows the story to be read smoothly. I especially enjoyed that you
got both perspectives.
Dax has a dream of getting out and living in the big world. Despite his summers
with his grandparents and loving the small town they live in, Dax knows that he
wants something bigger. Dax falls in love with Kandace as a young adult and
even though he loves her, his goals are too lofty to live in Riverbend. With
one last night with Kandace, Dax leaves for the big city and the life he's
dreamed of.
Kandace loves her town. She is surrounded by people who have watched her grow
up. The store, Quintessential Treasures, is a store that Kandace has dreamed
about running, expanding, and bringing it into the new century. When twists and
turns happen in her own life, Kandace just rolls with the punches. She never
forgets her first love, but now, Kandace has other priorities.
When Dax's grandma dies and leaves him as the executor of her estate, Dax has
to travel back in time – back to Riverbend. Now a successful lawyer, Dax isn't
quite sure about selling his grandma's beloved store at such a reduced price.
Riverbend knows a secret and they will protect their own with everything they
have. When Dax returns to help with his grandma's estate, some will welcome him
back with open arms and some with a punch to the face. It's up to Dax to figure
out the secret.
Dax and Kandace were meant for each other. Their goals kept them apart. Can a
grandma's meddling from the afterlife spark their relationship again? Quintessentially
is a story about young love, finding what truly makes you happy, and following
your own dreams.
I loved this whole story from beginning to end. It has a sweetness that will bury
itself into your soul and camp there to give the reader a warm and fuzzy
feeling after they finish the story.

– ☆☆☆☆
Oh, I hope you are ready for a fun, sexy, and super enjoyable read – because
once again, Aleatha Romig has delivered all the goodness!
Travelling backwards and forwards in time, this novel gives us the situation
now, and reveals the why through the past of both Dax and Kandace. They were
everything to each other until he finally stopped coming to town and followed
his parents into the legal rat race. Whilst he had girlfriends in that time,
for Kandace, he was the only one – and as we discover, at his grandfather's
funeral, he unknowingly left her pregnant. Not willing to affect his career,
she has chosen to let him live ignorant of the ties he left behind.
I love that his grandmother has been one of her dearest supporters, and kept
her secret until her death. She also left provision for her to buy her shop
they both love at a very good price. Dax comes to sort out the will and makes
another enormous discovery. Or maybe two – as he finds she is the one who got
away, and maybe all he has been doing career-wise was the wrong move.
The simplicity with which Molly accepts this new person in her life, and that
the town who has been keeping the secret welcomes him back, is refreshing and
beautifully positive. It made for a lovely, light, and yet very intense
romance, which will make you wonder just how you would react in either Dax or
Kandace's shoes. I enjoy that questioning of my own route out of such a pickle!
In need of a feel-good story which is open, honest, and full of love, hope, and
the promise of a great future? This definitely fits the bill!
