Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆☆
I absolutely loved this book – it is the second in the series, but definitely a book that stands tall in its own right. It runs parallel to the first, and we see intersections, which are fun, but not essential. I really enjoyed the first book, once I could shut out Bellini, but this one appealed to me even more.

How Ms. Quinn manages to make me laugh so much, and yet writes with heartbreaking intensity just a few lines later is insane. I tried to feel guilty about the laughing, given how serious some of the issues were, but truly, not even a severe penalty could have kept in the giggles. Pure comedic genius. Add in the overwhelming chemistry, the deep-seated feelings arising in a man who has closed himself off from the world, and the clarity with which Ruby sees him, and the reader is in sensory overload.

I really do recommend this to anyone with a desire to read a good story and who is sitting somewhere where they can laugh or shed a tear without causing themselves too much embarrassment!

PS – The good news – there is going to be another book, telling Hollis's story. Can't believe it can be as good as this, but you can bet I will be lining up to read it!

Meghan Quinn’s talent never ceases to amaze me. Having read and loved the first book in this series, Stroked, I expected to again laugh so much that my stomach muscles hurt. Mission accomplished. However, what I did not expect was just how tragic Bodi’s story would be and that I would shed so many tears. Honestly, I cannot even comprehend how Quinn managed to balance the hilarity that is Ruby with the gravity that is Bodi, make me laugh and cry hysterically for both, and love every page of it even more than I loved Stroked. Yet she did.

The prologue of Stroked Long broke my freaking heart, and while I knew that the event was going to have a major impact on the man Bodi grew up to be, I was unprepared for just how severely it hindered his ability to live and experience life to the fullest, despite the fact that he was a medaled Olympic swimmer. Yet no one other than his sister and her girlfriend really knew just how tightly wound Bodi was because despite his issues, he has developed a professional facade that allows him to interact with others when absolutely necessary and keep them at a distance while doing so. That is, until Ruby is thrown into his life when his sister, Eva, ropes him into working with Ruby on the foundation established to honor their parents. Ruby is a force of nature whose tendency to engage in verbal diarrhea and attract glitter bombs pretty much guarantees that Bodi’s life will never be the same again. While she terrifies him because of the chaos she brings with her, Bodi gradually discovers that not all change is bad. And Ruby might be the best change of all if he can only take the plunge.

I loved watching Bodi come out of his shell as he spent more and more time with Ruby. I cannot even begin to express just how pleased I am that Quinn didn’t use Ruby’s love as a cure-all for Bodi’s issues. Heck, Ruby’s love wasn’t even a quick fix for Bodi; instead, it was more of an incentive for Bodi to take his therapy more seriously and work harder at overcoming the trauma he endured as a child. Ruby’s complete acceptance of Bodi’s rituals as being a part of who he was, her wanting to help him instead of trying to change him, and her colorful outlook on life combined to give Bodi a sense of tranquility where he expected to find chaos. Their personalities complemented one another beautifully, and while this meant the heartbreak was nearly soul crushing when it occurred, it also meant that when they found their way back to their intended paths, it was brilliant. I absolutely loved Stroked Long and it might very well be my favorite Meghan Quinn novel. I look forward to seeing if she can one-up herself with the next book in the series.
