Wicked Reads Reviews – The Darkness Trilogy by Abby Weeks

Tangled Rose

Book 1 in The Darkness Trilogy

Rose Meadows has been kidnapped. She wakes up in a motel room, tied to the bed, and she is terrified. Never could she have imagined what the men who took her have in store. The pleasures they seek are not only sexual; they want that, but they also want to abuse her in more degrading and devastating ways. They want to humiliate her. They want to debase her. And most of all, they want to break down her trust in the one thing that can eventually set her free: Love.

Start this trilogy if you are brave enough to see it through to the end. It is a heartbreaking story but it is also a triumphant one. It shows that love can be found in the darkest of places, and that sometimes it is the roughest and hardest of men who prove to be the most surprising.

Warning! This book contains triggers that some readers will find distressing. It is not for the faint of heart.

Drawn from experiences in the author's own life, this is a heartbreaking and painful story of abuse, degradation and humiliation. While the trilogy as a whole ends happily, this book does not. You've been warned!

This book is the beginning of a three book series. Rose has been kidnapped and is terrified. This book is dark but not dark erotica. There is abuse, humiliation and so many devastating things happen to Rose that some readers might not wish to continue with the series after this book. I was drawn in and had to find out what happened to Rose. As a reader I connected with Rose, not by knowing what she was going through but how she was feeling, you could feel her emotions and I think that is what made me stick through the entire trilogy.

Characters: The characters were well written
Sex: Yes but not consensual most of the time
Religious: No
Would I recommend to others: Yes
More than one book in the series: Yes
Genre: Dark
Would I read more by this author: Yes

Wow!! Just Wow. Please listen to the warnings of this book.
I loved this novella. LOVED IT. Although graphic and very disturbing to some it is written well and the author pulls you in and holds you there.

This book is written over a three day period in which Rose is in captivity.
The things that were done to her are incredibly graphic.
Fat Boy is a disgusting pig with some very, VERY serious issues.
Patrice is a Prospect for the DRMC. He must watch over Rose while she is being held captive.
Patrice has been told he is too soft, too sympathetic.
He must show Serge he is ready to be patched in.
He questions himself and his loyalty to the club.
Does he choose the club or the friendship he has established with the captive he is guarding?

I cannot wait to read Tainted Rose and follow the journey of Rose's redemption.

** 2.5 stars **

When I read the blurb for this book I really liked the idea, but it seemed to fall short for me. I am a huge lover of MC books, but this was missing something. Yes, there were dark actions, dark moments but I felt I couldn't connect enough to "feel" it, I couldn't get lost enough in the story. It was very detailed, as far as setting a scene but I felt it missed on explaining some of the emotional details.

There are some heavy graphic things discussed in this book, non-dark lovers should really read the warning before reading.

This novella was VERY well written, it was gritty and painful to read: it was a filthy, dirty, degrading story without any hope or silver lining. This is NOT a romance - it IS dark, very dark.

The characters were well described and I felt like I was lying next to Rose on that awful bed.

This was a very quick read, and I believe it's setting up the next book Tainted Rose - which I NEED to read right now. I need to have hope that Rose get out of this.

Tainted Rose

Book 2 in The Darkness Trilogy

Rose Meadows has been taken.

Now, she is forced to work as a stripper in a desolate bar owned by the Dark Rebel MC. This is the same club that killed her father and wiped out his club, The Sioux Rangers. The Dark Rebels humiliate and abuse her and she is beginning to lose hope of ever being rescued.

Josh Carter lives like a wolf.

He roams the streets of Montreal like a ghost. He is the last surviving member of the Sioux Rangers and without his club he is completely alone in the world. He has no friends, he has no family. He rides alone.

When Josh learns that the DRMC have been holding Rose captive, he knows he has to do something about it. He can no longer let the past control his destiny.

Join Josh in the second novel of this stunning new series. This story is a beautiful and heartfelt portrayal of the limits of love in the brutal and dangerous world of Quebec's outlaw motorcycle clubs.

Find out if love can overcome all the odds.

Find out if the Sioux Rangers will ride again.

This is book two of a three book series. I found this book difficult to get through. I found myself skimming through most of it. It became so repetitive that I was almost bored and that shouldn’t be the case in a story such as this. The only redeeming quality in this book is meeting Josh. Thank God he finally showed up, I was losing hope! Josh is out for revenge, little does he know that his revenge will ultimately lead him to Rose and help her get her revenge as well. As much as this book wasn’t for me, I will read the last book in the series just to see how it turns out.

I liked this book. A lot. Maybe too much considering the horrific things that are inside it.

Rose has become employed at a very secluded little club in the middle of nowhere. Few men go to this club, but when they do Rose is expected to perform.

She is very unhappy and most of the time takes herself to another place mentally.

She wants to get out but has no way to.

That is until someone from her past shows up.

He is the key to her freedom.

In order for them to leave they must face off against the VP of the MC club in which she works.

That is a nearly impossible feat. But if there is a will there is a way.

I can’t wait until I read the next in the series. Well done Abby.

I went into this one with no expectations. It was tough to get into, I skimmed a lot. There seemed to be things that were repeated, within the same page sometimes within the same paragraph. I did really like Josh's character, bringing him in was brilliant. It saved what was left of this book for me. I enjoyed reading about him and his revenge against the MC.

Shelby – ☆☆☆

I really don't know how to rate/review this book. The first 50% was very bleak and depressing – the descriptiveness was almost too much for me.

I almost got bored with the repetition of Rose's existence (being brutalized).

I was ready to give up at about 54% but then there was a POV change and we meet Josh. Thank goodness we FINALLY get some break from the monotony of Rose's life with the DRMC.

The end of this book just frustrates me - no spoilers, but I just don't get it.

I do enjoy a dark read, but this book just didn't sit well with me.

I will finish the series, as I need a Happy Ending to this horrific story.

Twisted Rose

Book 3 in The Darkness Trilogy

Rose Meadows was taken. She was tortured. She was abused. She was humiliated.

And then she was rescued. Josh Carter came like a wolf in the night and stole her away from the Dark Rebel Motorcycle Club. He took her to a safe place and already they can feel the stirrings of love grow between them.

But Josh left the job unfinished. The men who hurt Rose are still free. They are still hurting other girls. When Josh sees how traumatized and damaged Rose is because of what they did to her, he knows he has no choice. He must risk everything, even the chance of a happy life with Rose, in order to bring justice to the men who hurt her.

This is the stunning finale to the best-selling trilogy that has been making waves for its gritty realism, graphic depictions of humiliation, and for showing the courage of one woman who refuses to let darkness overcome her. Drawn from real events in the life of the author it shows that women are stronger than their abusers and capable of more courage than anyone ever gave them credit for.

Read this book. Celebrate its honesty. Remember the journey.

Warning! This book contains triggers that some readers will find distressing. It is not for the faint of heart.

This is the final book in the series. Twisted Rose was so much better than Tainted Rose for me. It was more action packed and not the same thing over and over and over again. Revenge is coming, Josh is on a mission to save Rose and Rose finally has hope. Josh helps Rose believe in herself and in others again. A character from the first book shows up again and gives everyone a surprise in the end. While there was finally a HEA, I would have liked to see how they fared a few years down the road in an epilogue. It just didn’t seem completely “finished” for me, there was closure but I wanted to know about the aftermath.

I liked this book. It flowed very well from the one before.
There were some parts that I became sort of bored with and skimmed through it.

Rose is on the run with a man from her past.
She has so many demons to fight that a normal relationship with this man seems nearly impossible.

He tries to help her and they have decided that one of the only ways to do that is to try and take out the men that have hurt her.

The DRMC men are mean and brutal.

Can these two alone try to bring some justice for Rose?

Shannan – ☆☆☆☆

After having a rocky start for me I can say it is ending much better. This book was so suspense filled. I am so glad I kept going. This one made the series for me. There was something so different about this compared to the two others. I like that it had more to do with Josh, I really liked his character. How Josh and Rose had to fight tooth and nail for HEA. He gave her hope, when she thought there was none. He gave her something to believe in. So action packed!

Great way to end this series.

Shelby – ☆☆☆☆

The conclusion to this series was explosive, and action packed.

The "tone" of this book was completely different than the previous two books, which may have something to do with hope.

Rose is coming to grips with her situation, while Josh (the Knight in Shining Armor) is providing her with an outlet for her emotions - and stability that she hasn't known for the past 2 years.

Together they forge forward and deal with the wrath of the DRMC.

I did feel some moments in this story were unlikely, but I felt that throughout the entire series, and I was glad I stuck through to the end.

Although this was dark, and felt completely hopeless at times, this book redeemed the whole series for me.

I write stories about my own fantasies. They're not to everyone's taste but I'm a real person, a nice girl, and I'm honest about my sexual inclinations. If you'd like to give me a try, I would be happy to have you on board.

I'm thirty-two years old and live in a small town in beautiful Ontario with my two dogs. I was born and raised here. I went to school in Montreal and Ottawa. I studied French, Women's Studies and Literature but wasn't the most focused student. I took creative writing classes in school but it wasn't till I got back to my hometown and was working as a waitress that I really started writing. I'm an only child and both my parents passed away when I was quite young. I do feel a bit alone in the world.

I like to write about strong, adventurous women. They are the kinds of women I like to imagine I am, or at least would be if I had the courage. The protagonist usually has a difficult past or family life and is up against the world in some way. My stories are fairly graphic and erotic, but I also include a good story, strong character development, and a genuinely full and engaging reading experience.

The sexual themes I write about all come from my own, private fantasies. They are the kinds of things I imagine happening to me, even though I know they are unlikely in real life. They're not realistic in the sense that they reflect life, but they are absolutely honest in the sense that they reflect my own deeply held thoughts and desires.
