An Unlocked Heart by K.C. Wells in Collars & Cuffs Vol. 1

Since the death of his submissive lover two years ago, Leo hasn’t been living—merely existing. He focuses on making Collars & Cuffs, a BDSM club in Manchester’s gay village, successful. That changes the night he and his business partner have their weekly meeting at Severinos. Leo can’t keep his eyes off the new server. The shy man seems determined to avoid Leo’s gaze, but that’s like a red rag to a bull. Leo loves a challenge.

Alex Daniels works at Severinos to scrape together the money to move out on his own. He struggles with coming out, but he’s drawn to Leo, the gorgeous guy with the icy-blue eyes who’s been eating in his area nearly every night.

Leo won’t let Alex’s hesitance get in the way. He even keeps him away from the club so as not to scare him. And as for telling Alex that Leo is a Dom? Not a good idea. One date becomes two, but date two leads to Leo’s bedroom… and Alex discovers things about himself he never realized—and never wanted anyone to see.

Mmm... m/m erotica heaven. An Unlocked Heart is highly erotic and hits the spot just right. The romance unfolds at a leisurely pace as Leo and Alex get to know one another intimately before exploring BDSM in their relationship.

But there is more to this book that just sex. I liked seeing Alex grow in confidence as the story progressed, seeing him learn to stand up for himself and to ask for what he wants. I really liked that Leo was always 100% sure of himself because it added a bit of believability to the story.

An Unlocked Heart if the first story in this series that I have just discovered. Lucky for me there are eight books available so far and I'll be reading them all over the next few months. I'm looking forward to it.

I really enjoyed this first book in the series – and am looking forward to reading all the future books when I can. Inevitably, there is a degree of world building in a new series, but this is done very effectively and leaves plenty for each future story to cover. The BDSM aspects were, in my opinion, well done, and I found the teasing and references to other books both amusing and respectful.

I always think that a good long book that I read without even thinking about its length, is definitely a really well written book. And this certainly got read in a flash, I just had to know what happened next. There were lots of lovely side characters who made a big difference to the outcome.

It gives us both points of view, so we are aware of just how they feel, and just how much their friends have to pull things out of the bag to get the situation sorted out! It deals with some significant family issues with great style and a degree of redemption for one family member. And more than anything else, it deals with two men falling in love and coming to terms with just what that means. Dealing with the physical and the emotional in both a sensitive and passionate way is a skill that this author has in droves. It is by turns sweet, cute, fun, frustrating, but most definitely hot, hot, hot. I would probably suggest not reading this in a public place!

Very enjoyable, and great start to a series. So glad that I don't have to wait to get hold of the next one!

I've always written, right from an early age. I was always writing stories as a child, and as I grew up, I had the idea of writing a novel, like so many people do. Born and raised in the north-west of England, K.C. Wells always loved writing. Words were important. Full stop. However, when childhood gave way to adulthood, the writing ceased, as life got in the way. K.C. discovered erotic fiction in 2009, where the purchase of a ménage storyline led to the startling discovery that reading about men in love was damn hot. In 2012, arriving at a really low point in life led to the desperate need to do something creative. An even bigger discovery waited in the wings—writing about men in love was even hotter... K.C. now writes full time and is loving every minute of her new career. The laptop still has no idea of what hit it... it only knows that it wants a rest, please. And it now has to get used to the idea that where K.C goes, it goes.
