Takes the Cake by Lynn Chantale

Liz Arnold can’t believe her good fortune when she’s asked to cater one of the biggest and most prestigious weddings of the year. Not only is the location perfect, but working with the bride is a dream. But her dream job quickly turns into a nightmare when the bride’s brother Keegan keeps pushing to change the cake. Yet whenever she’s in his presence all she can think about is being skin-to-skin.

Keegan Murphy is determined to make his sister’s wedding the talk of the town, but that can’t happen with a plain and unimaginative cake. He doesn’t anticipate the instant attraction he has for Liz, but he has no problem seeking out every opportunity to seduce her.

Liz’s not there for pleasure; she has a wedding to save. But will salvaging the wedding cost her a relationship she shouldn’t have started in the first place?

Takes the Cake was a quick read that provided just the right mix of romance, superstition, conflict, and steamy sex that kept me entertained. Because there is a history between Liz and Keegan, his doggedness to get into her pants doesn’t feel rushed. Rather he is hoping to rekindle the fire between them because even when they had problems, they were always good in bed. I would say that Liz gave in to Keegan’s advances rather quickly, but a lot of women (yours truly included) have that man in their past who they just can’t say no to and Keegan was hers. The conflict between the members of the wedding party was humorous, especially when the truth came out. I did think that Liz forgave Keegan’s actions rather quickly considering that his attempts to win her back seemed to involve sending her flowers, calling her, and giving her space. For a man who had come to realize that he let her go too easily the first time, I just wasn’t won over by his “fight” to win her back. All in all, Takes the Cake was an enjoyable novella that packed a good punch (pun intended) and I would be interested in reading more of Ms. Chantale’s writing.

Lynn Chantale resides in southeastern Michigan. Writing has been a passion for as long as she can remember. Given an ultimatum of either getting published or giving up writing. Lynn chose to get published and has never looked back.

She has a mad affinity for world domination, milk chocolate, preferably Dove chocolate truffles or the caramel-filled squares (Godiva is acceptable), and plays the bass guitar when the Muse begs for a bit of distraction.
