Platonic Rulebook by Saxon James Blog Tour

I talk a big talk about wanting to be single, but my platonic rule book has gone out the window.

GRIFF

Walking away from my marriage was my idea of a fresh start.

My kid is in college, my ex-wife and I are on good terms… but being single in my forties is a world different to being single in my teens.

I’m thankful for my best friend, Heath. He’s got my back like he always does and is ready to take me out and show me how the bachelor life is done.

He was never supposed to show me literally.

After we wake up in bed together, I can’t stop looking at him differently, and one thing becomes abundantly clear.

I talk a big talk about wanting to be single, but my platonic rulebook has gone out the window.

HEATH

When my best friend comes to me for help post-divorce, I’m only too happy to impart my wisdom to him.

After all, Griffin isn’t my type, but even I can tell he’s a complete lumbersnack. Good with his hands, kind eyes, and a killer smile. All the guys and gals are gonna eat him alive.

But the more time we spend together, the less “not my type” he becomes. I’m the one who can’t get enough of him.

Neither of us is interested in a relationship, so what’s a little fun between friends?

We both know the score.

Platonic Rulebook is the second installment of the Divorced Men's Club (DMC) series. It can be read as a standalone but reads better in the order the author intended.

Griff has been waiting for his son to go off to college to have the fresh start that's been coming for years. Griff and Poppy love each other but know the marriage is over. They agree to wait until their son, Felix, is in college to get divorced. Griff has known he's bisexual most of his life and was okay not exploring that side of himself until getting this fresh start and being with a man is all he can think of. But it's been almost twenty years since he's dated and a while since he's had sex. He feels so out of his element and so unprepared to start this part of his life he turns to his best friend, Heath, and the men of the DMC for advice.

Heath has always been in Griff's corner. They've been best friends for years and he'd do whatever he could be make Griff happy. Heath and Griff work together at the motel he and Poppy own together. With Poppy stepping away from the business, it puts Griff and Heath in an even closer situation. While trying to help Griff with his dating issues and business, Heath can't help but fall for his best friend. When the sexual tension between them is too much, they know where they stand and nothing with ruin their friendship. Or does one night change everything they thought they knew?

I loved everything about this read. Nothing reads better than friends to lovers and Saxon James writes this one spectacularly! The chemistry between Heath and Griff builds with every page until it can't be contained. I love the DMC and the friendship that exists between these men. I can't wait to see what's next for them.

I'm usually not one to read friends-to-lover stories a lot, but the blurb touched home for me since I'm recently divorced and in my forties. Griff and Heath are best friends. When Griff divorces, Heath helps him navigate life again. This was a sweet, passion-filled, low-angst story that just made my heart melt. These two guys were perfect for each other, and I loved going on their journey with them.

Trouble with the Cursed by Kim Harrison

Keep your friends close… and your enemies closer. Now Available. Trouble with the Cursed by Kim Harrison.

Rachel Morgan must keep her friends close—and her enemies closer—in the next Hollows novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Kim Harrison.

Rachel Morgan, witch-born demon, has one unspoken rule: take chances, but pay for them yourself. With it, she has turned enemies into allies, found her place with her demon kin, and stepped up as the subrosa of Cincinnati—responsible for keeping the paranormal community at peace and in line.

Life is... good? Even better, her best friend, Ivy Tamwood, is returning home. Nothing’s simple, though, and Ivy’s not coming alone. The vampires’ ruling council insists she escort one of the long undead, hell-bent on proving that Rachel killed Cincy’s master vampire to take over the city. Which, of course, Rachel totally did not do. She only transformed her a little.

With Rachel’s friends distracted by their own lives and problems, she reaches out to a new ally for help—the demon Hodin. But this trickster has his own agenda. In the end, the only way for Rachel to save herself and the city may be to forge a new understanding with her estranged demon teacher, Al. There’s just one problem: Al would sell his own soul to be rid of her...

Trouble with the Cursed is the sixteenth installment in The Hollows series. Can it be read as a standalone or out of series order? No, absolutely not. Not only would it cause massive confusion for the reader due to the ever-expanding, complex world building, but it would spoil major plots if the reader had a taste and decided to read the series. Dead Witch Walking is the introduction for our itchy witch, Rachel Morgan, along with her fellow beasties and cohorts.

As always, I savored the newest installment, beyond thrilled to be immersed into the world Rachel and company dwell, after the series had met its conclusion a few years ago. Reading slowly, this series is a homecoming and a meeting of long-lost friends rolled into one.

Rachel is riding herd on the supernatural community in Cincinnati, with all the headaches, responsibilities, and frustrations that ride shotgun.

For this reader, the anticipation of having Ivy back on the pages and in close proximity to Rachel had me turning the pages at a rapid rate, experiencing the chemistry between the partners/roomies/besties. The only problem, Ivy is followed closely by a vampire whose total focus is proving Rachel killed the previous Master of the City so she could take the power and rule the city herself.

Not only is the world building imaginative and original, the connections Rachel has with her friends and made-family is what has kept me coming back for more, rereading to catch the same feels every time. Rachel is a loyal, fierce, protective woman to have at your back, willing to do anything for the people she calls her own. This novel showcases Rachel's tenacity, loyalty, and devotion, along with the zany humor from Rachel failing almost as much as she succeeds, which makes her feel more human than witch-born demon. The sarcastic flavor of her tone of voice and inner monologue is as entertaining as it is endearing.

The plight of reading a novel by Kim Harrison, before I even get to the ending of the novel, I'm already hankering to reread the series from the start. I always crave the desire to immerse myself in the complex characters, riveting world building, the magic systems, and the rich universe that the author has created. Not to mention the fact that I'm still not over the loss of a character, a decade later. Harrison brings the feels.

This series is at the top of my favorites list, recommended to fans of Urban Fantasy. After a few more books and some work to be done, I'm diving back in, already having the first in the series loaded up for yet another reread.

M/F Friends-to-Lovers Romance

Tenley is a fun, quirky, kindergarten teacher who has always held a flame for her best friend, Jackson. Despite Tenley's dating life, she knows that unless she stops comparing everyone to Jackson, she might never find the one person for her.

Jackson loves his job. When he's injured, he realizes that he was in a relationship that was convenient and not one that was based on love and trust. When he truly needs someone, Jackson knows that he can always count on Tenley.

With new feelings emerging on Jackson's part and Tenley allowing herself to let her feelings out, can these two see what's been there all along? You'll laugh with them, yell at Jackson, cry with Tenley, and ultimately cheer for the home team.

I can't wait to see what's next in this series.

Mary Jo – ☆☆☆☆
What a sweet friends-to-lovers book. A simple game of seven minutes in heaven back in high school would have turned out much differently if Tenley hadn't gotten that text message from her mom telling her she was out past curfew. Instead of her being Jackson's girlfriend all these years, she's been relegated to the role of his best friend.

Fast forward thirteen years, Jackson has finally kicked Rachel to the curb, too bad it comes on the heels of him being injured and him finally figuring out that Rachel has only cared about herself all these years. Tenley is glad that Jackson knows that he can rely on her but wishes he would see her as more than a friend. Then the unthinkable happens – Jackson finds out that it was her in that dark closet all those years ago.

Jackson has seen a different side to Tenley since he has been injured and when he finds out that it was Tenley that gave him that kiss in the closet back in high school, he can't wait to kiss her again to see if the sparks are still there.

This book allowed the reader to take the journey with Jackson and Tenley as they went from friends to lovers and how they navigated the new course their lives are on.

I'm Not in Love by Mia Kerick Release Blitz

Release Blitz. Mia Kerick’s I’m Not in Love.

I’m not in love…
I’m not in love…
I will never let myself fall in love with Tristan Wilder.
And maybe if I tell myself this a thousand times, I’ll believe it.

Having lost his parents to a tragic accident when he was a child, wealthy hotel heir Remi (Julian Remington III) refuses to form intimate emotional bonds, fearing a repeat of the crushing loss that destroyed his youth. This means no deep friendships, no heartfelt family ties, and God forbid should he ever fall in love… Well, it’s safe to say he will never let that happen.

However, as a senior at the most prestigious art college in Garner City—his last year of freedom before he’s required to take his place at the top of the Remington family empire—Remi freely explores sexual intimacy with “distractingly” beautiful men. And he does so with enthusiasm—how better to distract himself from the temptation to experience tender human connection?

Remi’s plans for emotional isolation are shook up when he meets Tristan Wilder, a nude model for his life drawing class. Stunningly beautiful from head to toe—and inside his heart, as well—Tristan struggles to scrape together enough money to support his twin sister, Tara, and her three young children. Like Remi, “Uncle Tris” is unwilling to enter a romantic relationship—his responsibility to family is all-consuming. As the men take a chance on casual friendship, Remi comes to admire Tristan’s devotion to his family. And with Remi’s surprisingly doting attention to Tara’s children, he works his way into Tristan’s heart.

Tristan is finally all in, but can commitment phobic Remi lower his walls enough to allow Tristan—and the entire Wilder family—into his heart?

Excerpt

In the interest of assisting a fellow human being in need, I approach him. It’s the right thing to do and not much of a sacrifice. “Hey, Tristan. If you’d like, I’ll show you the door.” My heroics know no limits.

“You’ll show me the door?” he repeats, his expression a study in bewildered symmetry.

I chuckle. “That probably came out wrong.” Although it’s exactly what I said to Joey Ramirez in my bedroom late last night after our intimate interaction was a fait accompli. “What I mean is, I’ll lead you to the exit. This place is a mouse maze.”

Tristan turns to face me, and even before he smiles—exposing (unsurprisingly) toothpaste-ad quality straight white teeth—I’m again blown away by his regal bone structure. I blink once, and deliberately, in my attempt to collect myself. He is far from the first beautiful boy I’ve laid eyes upon. In fact, I see one every day in my very own bathroom mirror when I’m brushing my toothpaste-ad teeth.

Here’s a novel idea, Remi… How about you get a hold of yourself?

Tristan is just another pretty face.

“I appreciate the help,” he says, still smiling. “I’d get lost trying to find my way out of a paper bag.”

His self-deprecating tone is rich and velvety, eliciting memories of the warm Swiss cocoa my mother served on Friday nights as we settled on the formal couch in the parlor to watch a Disney movie and wait for my father’s return from the Remington Plaza Corporate Headquarters. Weekends were reserved for family. They were the very best of times.

My eyes burn, so I shove away the memories. I’m supposed to be the one disarming him.

“I’m sorry, Tristan… I’m not in love with you. I want you, and that hasn’t changed. I like being with you too. But love—it’s not that.” Me thinks thou dost protest too much.

Angie – ☆☆☆☆
I usually don't care for hurt/comfort books, but the book blurb caught my eye and I decided to give it a go. I wasn't disappointed. Remi and Tristan come from two different worlds and have two different paths in mind for their lives. When these two cross paths, it's instant attraction. While Remi is a hit it and quit it kind of guy, Tristan doesn't have time for that. These two form a friendship and it leads them both to feelings they didn't want or expect. I loved watching this relationship unfold. I laughed and cried and cheered them on. I really enjoyed this book and can't wait for the next one in the series.

Ruthie – ☆☆☆
This is an enjoyable read, with a good mix of cheeky lust, family, and destiny. Remi has one last year on his art degree before he has to knuckle down and run the family empire. He enjoys every minute of his course, but little more than the life classes, especially when the new model is so perfect. Tristan is hardly holding everything together, but he certainly is trying.

These are two very different people who actually find they had more in common than they could ever have expected. I enjoyed them taking a chance, and coming to terms with what matters and what really doesn't. I did find the time Remi spent with the children to be a clever way of thawing his heart!

I should also give a shout out to Remi's grandfather, who finally grew some and gave Remi his approval.

Author Bio

Award-winning gay romance author and mother of four, MIA KERICK, knows that a satisfying romance novel is riddled with challenges. For true love to prevail, the leading men are going to have to put in some effort. But the happily ever after is oh-so rewarding.

From Jane Eyre’s Mr. Rochester to Brokeback Mountain’s Ennis and Jack, Mia has a great affinity for the tortured hero in literature. Her contemporary gay romance focuses on such steamy tropes as hurt/comfort, forbidden love, and enemies/friends to lovers. She firmly believes that sometimes a lover has to break his heart to save him. In Kerick’s books, the course of true love truly never does run smooth.

Mia’s books have been featured in Kirkus Reviews magazine. They have won a 2019 IPPY GOLD award for Juvenile/Young Adult Fiction, a 2018 YA GOLD MOONBEAM Children’s Book Award, a YA Readers’ Favorite Award, several Gold Rainbow Awards in YA and adult categories, a Reader Views’ Book by Book Publicity Literary Award, the Jack Eadon Award for Best Book in Contemporary Drama, a YA Indie Fab Award, a First Place Royal Dragonfly Award for Cultural Diversity, a First Place Story Monsters Purple Dragonfly Award, a Bronze Medal for Readers’ Favorite Young Adult Romance, and more.

Mia cheers for each victory made in the name of human rights. Her only major regret: never having taken typing or computer class in school, destining her to a life consumed with two-fingered pecking and constant prayer to the Gods of Technology.

I was a little upset with this story and the way things were going. How Caleb was treating Evie, but he kept coming back to her. Each time she tried to move on, Caleb was there, whether for her brother or her own protection, Caleb was there bringing back the feelings between them. After years of this behavior, both Evie and Caleb get the shocker of their lives.

This story is one that is filled with angst, pain, heartbreak, and love. You will want to throw your Kindle on this rollercoaster ride, there are so many highs and lows that your head will be spinning. In the end, you will fall in love with Evie and Caleb, all they go through to be together was worth the pain it took to get there.

I love this author, and her writing is well known for the angst in her stories that make them heartbreakingly good. So sit back and enjoy the ride.

Shannan – ☆☆☆☆
Second Chance Love is the fourth installment in the Second Chance series. They can all be read as standalones without issue.

I hated Caleb. There, I said it.

Every time Evie was trying to move on, he was right there reminding her how she felt about him without even saying anything.

Evie falls for the older guy at the frat party and something about Evie has Caleb thinking maybe he could have it all. Until the next day, when they realize all they could have was that one night because neither of them wanted to betray her brother or his best friend, Jax.

When Jax unknowingly keeps throwing them together again and again, it's almost too much for both of them to bear until Caleb commits the ultimate betrayal. Caleb's waited eight years to explain the past to Evie, but hating Caleb is all she knows now.

I had a huge love/hate relationship with Caleb. I hated him in the beginning, but he did end up redeeming himself for me by the end. This was a complete emotional rollercoaster of a read. The angst and chemistry were off the charts!

I can't wait to see what's next with Tristian and Belle!

This story will get you right in the feels from the very first page. Author Corinne Michaels has another winner with this one, not only is it heartbreakingly good, but it is also filled with suspense. And Brielle has to get back her memories of the last three years to solve her brother's murder.

There is so much going on that my heart broke for Brielle each time she tried to remember and couldn't. I don't think I could be as strong as she was if I lost my memories. Finding out she is engaged but can't remember who was almost as bad as who killed her brother. There are so many directions in this story that you think you know who done it but then you are hit with another surprise.

As with stories from this author, you better have plenty of Kleenex handy because you will need them. This story is a love story with a suspenseful aspect that has to be solved to get the couple to their happily ever after. It will break your heart one minute and have you laughing the next. I think this might be my favorite from this author so far and I cannot wait for the next book. Bring on Bennett and Blakely, I need their story now.

Brielle wakes up to a loss that most can't imagine. The last three years of her life have been erased. With a case against her assailant pending, nobody is willing to mess the case up, so nobody is telling Brielle what she wants to know.

Most importantly, Brielle is now the sole person who can identify her brother's killer. She is desperate to help and regain her memories, but with each question asked, Brielle feels like it only leaves more questions.

Friends and family surround Brielle, but no more than her brothers' best friends. Spencer was someone Brielle could always count on and it's his job to investigate, so Brielle asks for Spencer's help in figuring out her memories.

When Brielle starts to regain her memories, can she trust them? Is what she remembering real? With those questions in the air, Brielle has to take a step back and look deep in her heart instead of her injured brain. Can she figure it out in time?

Love is lost, love is gained, and you'll be reaching for the Kleenex with this book. Michaels does a fantastic job sucking you in and drawing the story in a manner that keeps you guessing and asking the questions. I can't wait to see what's in store for the next book.

The Dirty Truth by Winter Renshaw

The old Elle hated West, but maybe the new Elle can tame him.

From Wall Street Journal and #1 Amazon bestselling author Winter Renshaw comes an enemies-to-lovers romance about the journey of self-discovery that follows a life-changing event.

After a brush with death, I realize it’s time to make changes in my life. Big changes.

First, my job. I love being a journalist, but I hate my megawatt magnate boss, West Maxwell. When he demands I rewrite an article on short notice, I turn the tables on him with a scathing new column and quit in a blaze of glory.

But West isn’t about to let me go that easily, the jerk. He offers me an unexpected new position: mentor to his rebellious teenage niece. For some reason, I agree—I like helping people, but I’m also admittedly curious to glimpse the man behind the mogul.

However, I soon discover that my new assignment isn’t what I expected. As I learn about the private side of my enigmatic boss, I start to see the heart he hides behind his icy facade. The old Elle hated West… but maybe—just maybe—the new Elle can tame him.

Elle is a journalist working for a mega-magazine but after a near-death experience, she decides it is time to move on. Besides, she is tired of her boss but not the job.

The ex-boss, West Maxwell, has other plans for Elle. He wants her to mentor his 14-year-old niece. He can't do anything with her, so maybe Elle can. As Elle and Scarlett get closer, so do Elle and West. Elle learns more about West and she sees that he is not at all what she thought.

This is a really good enemies-to-lovers story that will have you wondering who will survive, Elle or West? The spark is there between them, it just takes a little fuel to set it ablaze. This was a first for me from this author and I look forward to reading more.

Elle is a journalist who has a column everyone relates to. She knows that she could write more powerful pieces, but she also knows that she's good at what she does. When her boss berates her in a meeting and wants a new article in a crazy time frame, Elle reevaluates her life choices.

Elle is also recovering from a few traumatic events – (1) finding out her boyfriend isn't who she thought, and (2) a brain aneurysm. With these new events swimming around and then her boss' crazy behavior, Elle realizes that she wants something different – something more.

West is struggling with being a guardian of a moody 14-year-old girl. He's used to people doing what he asks, when he asks, and not asking questions. When he realizes that Elle was a good writer, person, and that he kind of screwed the pooch by being a jerk, West has to find a way to have Elle help both him and his niece.

These two find themselves on completely different paths than what they thought. As they wind their way through the angst of a 14-year-old girl and reevaluating the preconceived notions both had of each other, West and Elle will either find themselves walking the same path or diverging forever.

You'll laugh at the antics of a 14-year-old girl, swoon and simultaneously curse West, and cheer Elle on.

Elle is confused, trying to navigate a world which is both familiar and strange to her. After having an aneurysm that almost resulted in death, she's trying, one step at a time, to find her footing. Not only is she becoming obsessed with her near-death experiences and what others may have seen on the other side, her new boss is on her last nerve.

As a journalist, she knows you have to roll with the punches, but clearly Max hasn't gotten the message that Elle is just back from sick leave and columns don't write themselves, especially overnight. Taking a giant leap of faith, Elle quits, determined to live her life on her own terms.

Max can't let her go. Seems like Elle struck up a conversation with his niece one afternoon and now all Scarlett can talk about is Elle. Hiring Elle to keep up with Scarlett solves to problems he has: (1) Scarlett has a friend and someone to look out for her, and (2) he can get to know Elle better.

Elle doesn't mind playing nanny/mentor to Scarlett, but Max is a different story. She's not sure if he's what she needs, yet Max thinks he’s the man for the job.

I enjoyed this book and can't wait to read more from this author.

Author Bio

Wall Street Journal and #1 Amazon bestselling author WINTER RENSHAW is a bona fide daydream believer. She lives somewhere in the middle of the USA and can rarely be seen without her notebook and laptop. When she’s not writing, she’s thinking about writing. And when she’s not thinking about writing, she’s living the American dream with her husband, three kids, the laziest puggle this side of the Mississippi, and a busy pug pup that officially owes her three pairs of shoes, one lamp cord, and an office chair.

Winter also writes psychological and domestic suspense under her Minka Kent pseudonym. Her first book, The Memory Watcher, hit #9 in the Kindle Store, and her follow-up, The Thinnest Air, hit #1 in the Kindle Store and spent five weeks as a Washington Post bestseller.
