The Project by R.L. Mathewson Release Blitz

The Project by R.L. Mathewson

From New York Time’s bestselling author of the Neighbor from Hell series comes a heartwarming romantic comedy about the only thing that matters when you’re about to lose everything that you’ve ever wanted.

The one person that you can’t live without.

She should probably mention that she had no idea what she was doing, but since that would probably result in her new boss, Devyn MacGregor, CEO of Carta Hotels and the incredibly handsome man that didn’t look like he knew how to smile, firing her, Andi Dawson decided that it would be in her best interest to keep that fact to herself. After years of doing a job that had slowly destroyed her will to live, she needed a change, something different, something that gave her a clue about what she was supposed to do with her life, but more importantly, she needed to figure out how she was supposed to keep a secret that could destroy the only thing that mattered to her.

Just. One. More. Time.

Devyn was so close to having everything that he’d ever wanted when everything suddenly went to hell. He should have seen this coming, should have stayed focused, and he really should stop thinking about the small woman that he should probably fire. He had four months to fix this and he had no idea how he was going to do it, but he knew that he was about to make the biggest mistake of his life.

Veronica☆☆☆☆
Andi is very much the center of this story and I adored her. She is a unique woman with a gift for numbers and a love of bacon. She also has a complete inability to multi-task, which makes her not at all suited to the job as Devyn’s secretary, a job she ends up in unintentionally. I love that I never knew what she was going to say and her interactions with Devyn, particularly early on, were so entertaining. I loved the way that Devyn gave her space to be herself even before a romantic relationship had developed.

A project that Devyn’s company is working on goes sideways and Andi and the fallout see our couple trying to unravel a mystery. I’m a sucker for a mystery and this added an element of danger and a good amount of tension to the story.

One thing that was missing from The Project is friendships. Aside from Devyn’s friend and co-worker, Lucas, and Andi’s brother, Drew, there isn’t any meaningful interaction with other people close to our couple. Even the relationships with Lucas and Drew aren’t explored in any depth.

I really enjoyed The Project. Andi and Devyn’s romance was delightful. I think the author did a particularly good job capturing what it is like at the start of a relationship when you can’t keep your hands off each other. I’d definitely recommend The Project.

Ruthie☆☆☆☆
This is a really fun romance with a quirky heroine and a grumpy overworked ambitious hero, with a corporate mystery thrown in! Whilst I must admit that I had the prime suspect identified early on, the twists and turns were highly enjoyable – and who would expect a romance with a side of auditing bank transactions could be so sexy!

Andi finds herself being interviewed and getting a job she was not expecting – but desperate to get away from the isolation of the accounting office, she takes the role and does her best. We soon see that multi-tasking and dealing with people are not high up her skillset, however, Devyn is enchanted by her, and finds that she has something special that he does not want to live without. The power dynamics and ethics of the situation give him cause for concern; he also cannot draw himself away from her.

I really enjoyed how he accommodates her particular ways, how she smoothes his harsh edges, and how they cannot help but fall for each other. Through some confounding, involved, and demanding months, they develop an empathy which comes off the page, as well as a deep and abiding friendship which makes their romance so much the sweeter.

Drew, Andi's firefighting twin, is a really fun character in this book, and does a great job of bringing us back to earth and being Andi's very best friend when she needs support. That link back to her past as well as the clear love between them adds a dynamic which helps us understand her better, and recognise her for the special person Devyn wants in his life.

Looking for You by Kelly Elliott Release Blitz

Looking for You. New York Times & USA Today Bestselling Author. Kelly Elliott. A Boggy Creek Valley Novel. Kindle Unlimited.

The last person I would ever expect to be waiting on the front porch for me in the middle of the night was Everly Higgins. To say I was both surprised and thrilled to see her would be an understatement. I hadn’t been able to stop thinking about her since we met last fall when my sister, Greer, fell in love with Everly’s brother, Hudson.

When I see her bruised up face, I instantly want to hurt someone. The problem is, Everly won’t tell me who hurt her or who she’s running from. The only thing she’ll tell me is that she needs a safe place to stay where no one can find her.

Being a cop, I have the urge to unravel this mystery, but the other side of me simply wants to protect Everly from whatever it is she’s running from.

But as the people she is hiding from catch up with her, I quickly discover there is nothing I wouldn’t do for Everly Higgins.

I’d even die for her.

Looking for You is book six and the final book in the Boggy Creek Valley series and can be read as a standalone. For a better reading experience, the author suggests reading them in order.

Looking for You is the sixth and final installment of the Boggy Creek Valley series. It shouldn't be read as a standalone. It should be read in the order the author intended to get the full effect of each book.

Finding Everly beaten and bruised on his front porch wasn't what he expected, but Kyle was going to do everything he could to keep her safe. Someone was trying to kill Everly, and she knew the only place she'd be safe was with Kyle. She knew some of the people involved but she had no idea why they wanted her dead. She didn't want to bring whatever danger to her parents or her brother. Kyle was the only safe option.

I loved a more action-packed story from Kelly Elliott. She, of course, had the swoon-worthy male lead, but the touch of action made this a different type of read than her usual, and I am here for it!! Kyle was the most in touch with his feeling of any of the other Boggy Creek Valley men. I loved seeing how romantic, sweet, and patient he was with Everly. Kyle and Everly were the perfect couple to finish up the series with. I highly recommend this series. I can't go wrong with any of these book boyfriends!

This is the fourth book in the series, and I would definitely recommend that you read them in order. This band based in Manchester, comprising four cousins and a close friend, is finally making it big – their dream has come true... and then they all find their happily ever afters... never easily, and always having impact on the rest of the guys. Add in a nan who is a total star and excellent cook, and you have the makings of a gritty, sexy, and utterly believable rock star romance series.

This time it is Alex who completely unexpectedly realises that the woman he sees as a friend is really the precious person he has been holding out for. Always flamboyant, regularly judged for being with either a man or a woman, despised by his abusive father, he deserves someone who loves him unconditionally. He subconsciously tests Zoe at every step, but her honesty and understanding are completely baffling to him, but also so enticing.

Zoe has been a side character for a while, best friends with Cerys and so in the inner circle – but always slightly out of it, as she is losing her hearing. A percussionist of the orchestral variety with a promise of an international career, she is now working as a virtual PA, and denying that she misses her dream career. So falling for the drummer of the Sad Fridays was not in her plans at all.

I loved these two, moving from friends to lovers, and recognising the needs that each other have and how best to meet them. The journey is not necessarily simple, but it is very engaging and I loved every minute of it. Now, do we finally get Ben's happily ever after? Hmmmm, I am relying on the author to weave her magic once again!

The tattoo across my right hip says it all really. A Life Less Ordinary. Inked by the amazingly talented Luke Wessman at the Wooster Street Social Club (a.k.a. New York Ink). Why is it important? Well, it sums up my view on life. That we should all aspire to live a life that is less boring, less predictable. Be bold, and do something amazing. I’ve made some crazy choices. I’ve been a car maker, a consultant, and even a senior executive at a large retailer running strategy. Born in England, spent time in the U.S. and Japan, before ending up in Canada where I met my own, personal hero – all six and a half feet of him. Both of us are Scorpios! Yeah, I know! Should have checked the astrological signs earlier, but somehow it works for us. We have two amazing kids, who I either could never part with or could easily be convinced to sell on e-bay.

I’ve wanted to be a writer for a really long time. Check through my office cupboards or my computer and you’ll find half written stories and character descriptions everywhere. Now I'm getting the chance to follow that dream.

Real Risk by Elle Keaton Blog Tour

Blog Tour. Elle Keaton’s Real Risk.

It's possible they're a match but first the two men will have to survive trial by fire.

Chief Flynn is fighting smoke and flames, tirelessly protecting the lives and property of his fellow islanders from yet another spate of fires.

Arson or accident?

When injury puts him on the sidelines, West Coast Forensics Arson Investigator Kimball Frye offers his assistance. Frye is The Most Irritating Man in the World, a condescending know-it-all who rubs Devon the wrong way.

Or does he?

Decades ago an arsonist stole his family from him since then Frye has devoted his life to putting them behind bars. At forty-nine, he doesn't believe in permanent relationships, instead preferring the company of interchangeable younger men.

Is the arsonist trying to shift the blame onto Devon, or trying to kill him? If it's the latter it just might work.

Feeling the pull of attraction to Devon as the firebug grows bolder is inconvenient. Will Kimball listen to his heart or his head? The younger men he's always preferred are nothing like the solid, stalwart Fire Chief.

Real Risk is the third in the West Coast Forensics series and can be read as a standalone but may be enjoyed more if you read the Real Trouble and Real Danger first. It is dual POV following Devon Flynn and Kimball Frye as they bicker and fumble their way to their happily ever after.

Excerpt

Was it weird he was irritated Flynn hadn’t called him about the fires, yet he still wanted to make sure the man ate a square meal? Probably. Too bad. Kimball was hungry, and he might as well make enough for two.

Five minutes later, the shower was still running, and Kimball was texting Birdy.

K: What does Flynn like to eat?

B: Hi Kimball.

K: Hey Birdy. There’s no food here.

B: I noticed when I was there.

K: Is there a grocery store or somewhere to order delivery?

B: The closest store is Chester’s. They’re open for another hour.

Kimball checked his watch. It was just seven p.m.

K: You guys close early here.

B: Island time. Also, winter. No decent delivery this time of year.

K: Thanks.

Kimball set his phone down and began to hunt around for a piece of paper to leave Flynn a note, but before he found either, Devon reappeared. He was toweling his hair dry and had changed into worn, form-fitting Levi’s and a long-sleeved navy Henley. Where Kimball’s hair had turned white when he was in his thirties, Devon’s was jet black with just a few silver streaks at his temples, and his skin was several shades darker than Kimball’s. He looked better after his shower but still tired, circles pronounced under red-rimmed eyes. His feet were bare, and Kimball couldn’t help but notice his long toes, the second toe longer than the first.

“What are you doing?”

Still grouchy, then.

I love spending time with the people of Piedras Island and in Real Risk we get romance between Fire Chief Devon and Kimball Frye, one of the owners of West Coast Forensics. There is an arsonist on Piedras and his crimes are escalating – enter arson expert Kimball to help with the investigation. I’m a big fan of mystery in my books and looking for an arsonist isn’t something I’ve read much. I thought it was obvious early on who the arsonist was going to turn out to be which had me initially a little disappointed, but everything turned out to be more complicated.

For me, the mystery and the arson was the background story and the relationship between Kimball and Devon was centre stage. At 40 years old, Devon isn’t looking at a relationship and 50-year-old Kimball spends his time dating much younger men. I loved the little bits of playfulness between the men and the easy way they get along. The romance is a wonderfully sexy slow burn. I haven’t been able to get Devon and Kimball out of my head since I finished reading Real Risk. I hope the next book from the West Coast Forensics series isn’t too far away. I miss Piedras Island already.

Is the arsonist trying to shift the blame onto Devon, or trying to kill him? If it's the latter it just might work…

Meant to Be by Jennifer Probst

Will fate allow them to overcome the past, or are they destined to always wonder if they are truly meant to be?

Two broken hearts discover an unpredictable path to healing in an emotional romance about fate and second chances by New York Times bestselling author Jennifer Probst.

It’s been two years since Chiara Kennedy lost her dearest friend, Rory. Chiara misses everything about her. Rory’s widowed husband is another story. Sebastian Ryder is a man Chiara had secretly wanted, let slip away, and hoped to never see again. Then fate throws them together for an unexpected one-night stand and a morning after of new challenges.

Sebastian had a soul mate in Rory. Shutting down after his tragic loss, he kept a cool distance from everyone—including Chiara, with whom he once shared a deep if fleeting affection. That was over and done with a long time ago. But when they meet again, old emotions resurface along with a heart-wounding past that haunts them both.

As Chiara and Sebastian grow closer, finally getting to know each other, Chiara struggles with feelings of guilt even as she cherishes her second chance with Sebastian. Will fate allow them to overcome the past, or are they destined to always wonder if they are truly meant to be?

Mary Jo☆☆☆
I honestly don't know which genre or trope I would slide this into. Jennifer Probst is an excellent author; however, the story seems to be a bit overplayed at times.

Chiara happens to meet Sebastian at a club, they have a great night of talking and getting to know each other and go their separate ways at the end of the night. No kissing, no sex, and no exchange of numbers. Truly a great night of talking about dreams, love and loves lost, and where the universe would take them next.

Still, Chiara uses this "perfect night" as a standard as to what she wants in a longtime partner, and even on occasion thinks, "What if?" As crazy as it sounds, when Chiara runs into him again, it's because one of her besties, Rory, has introduced him as her fiancé. Rather than telling everyone, including her bestie, that she had met Sebastian before, she pretends not to know him and spends the next several years being rude, if not hostile, towards him.

I don't understand why Rory, or their two close friends, didn't confront Chiara about her blatant dislike of Sebastian, nor do I understand why Chiara felt the need to conceal the fact that she knew Sebastian from before. Then Rory dies and Chiara is quick to place blame on Sebastian. Again, not sure why or why her friends let her get away with it.

Sebastian is another story. He allows himself to be the villain in Chiara's story. For whatever reason, he doesn't tell Rory that he spent an innocent night talking to Chiara, yet instead takes the rudeness and hostility from Chiara. And as for Rory's death, he gladly takes on that guilt as well.

The reader is well into the book before Chiara is able to see outside herself to consider Sebastian's feelings regarding his wife and her death. While it doesn't change much, it does allow for a bit of growth in character.

I'm not sure why Sebastian decides he wants to have a relationship with a woman who has treated him badly for so many years, but as they said back in the day "love makes you do the whacky."

I'm not sure I'll read the next book in the series as this one just didn't hold my interest.

A sexy and soul-stirring novel about love, family, and rediscovering what matters most. Maybe We Won't by Melissa Foster Now Available!

A sexy and soul-stirring novel about love, family, and rediscovering what matters most by Melissa Foster, the New York Times bestselling author of Maybe We Will.

When workaholic Boston attorney Deirdra de Messiéres is passed over for a well-deserved promotion, she takes a two-month hiatus to show her boss just how much he needs her and heads home to Silver Island. But beyond seeing her sisters happy, home is not where Deirdra’s heart is. She has no interest in their family restaurant, the Bistro, or reliving hurtful childhood memories, and absolutely no interest in spending a single second with Josiah “Jagger” Jones, the Bistro’s too-laid-back musician and chef. Sure, the hippie is hot, but he drives her nuts. The guy lives in a van with his dog, and he can’t even commit to a solid work schedule. To make matters worse, he’s always around. She needs to get off the island, stat.

Jagger has overcome his own personal trials to place stock in life’s pleasures: family, friends, peace… and if he has his way, one positively beautiful, absolutely uptight attorney. Jagger knows he’s the perfect person to help Deirdra deal with her hurtful past and find her way back to being happy.

A chance encounter leads to deep conversation, and night after liberating night, Deirdra lets down her guard. But neither has plans to stay on Silver Island. Free-spirited Jagger has wanderlust, and Deirdra has a career to return to. They’re on different paths, and plans for a future together don’t stand a chance. But when has anything gone according to plan?

This is book three in the Silver Harbor series, but as any Melissa Foster reader knows, her books all interlink and are so much the richer for it. I am a huge fan, and greatly enjoy feeling like I am meeting up with old friends on a regular basis through these books!

So far, two of the sisters have had their story and found their happily ever after, but Deirdra left the island as soon as she could, and really hates even making a short visit. However, passed over for a promotion she felt she deserved, she decides to show the law firm she works for that they need her, and takes a two-month sabbatical. Inevitably, she goes to visit her sisters and decides she will have to cope with island life until work calls her back in desperation.

So begins a truly wonderful love story, full of elements which have been building over the previous books – she is the only one not to have yet opened the letter left for her by her mother before she died. She also spends time visiting with the women who took on the role of mothers to her when her own checked out after the death of her father. She finally takes the time to look back from the viewpoint of an adult, not a child who had to behave like the adult. As this happens to us at the same time, it is hugely moving and very powerful.

And all the time there is the niggling feeling that hippy chef Jagger is getting under her skin. His complete opposite way of life to hers annoys her, his chilled manner, his interest in her, his attempts to make her happy... she just doesn't get it and it causes her to feel, something she avoids as much as possible.

I had thought that Cait's story must be the saddest, but actually Deirdra's was more so because having to grow up so young and never get to process her own losses, made her less able to cope with anything good. Jagger, through his knowledge of her mum, and her finally reading her letter, makes for some tissue-needing moments, but they are all so worth it for the new Deirdra happiness that follows.

Another beautiful, moving, and delicious love story, thank you, Melissa Foster!

Mary☆☆☆☆☆
I couldn't wait for Deirdra's story, she was the one who had to raise her little sister, Abbie, when their mom fell apart after their dad died. Being the workaholic attorney from Boston who got passed over for a promotion she deserved, Deirdra decided it was time to take some time off. Maybe travel and let her company see that they made a mistake and will want her to take the job she deserves.

When she gets to Silver Island (the place I live in, in my mind) and meets Jagger, she doesn't realize that he is the one person who can derail her plans, mind, and heart.

I loved the way Jagger pushed Deirdra just a little out of her comfort zone and the way they bantered with each other. They were the perfect couple and it made for the perfect story for Deirdra.

As with any of this author's stories, they are intertwined in some way and you can read them as standalones or all together. It really doesn't matter, you will love them all. This author is an automatic yes for me when a new one pops up on the review list, and I am ready for another when I finish this one. So I hope you enjoy this one as much as I loved it.

This is Didi's story. You've seen her sisters both find happiness, but Didi has always held back. The protector of her sister, Abby, Didi had to grow up very young. When her dad died, something broke in her mom too and her mom never recovered. Now, as an adult, Didi has learned to always rely on herself and never let a man break her. She has seen firsthand what that can do to a person.

When Didi is in need of a break, she heads to her sisters. Now that her sister Cait is on the island too, it's always a family reunion when Didi goes back. But the island makes Didi itchy and while she knows why, it still makes her mad that she can't just enjoy it.

Jagger is the local who is easy going and never needs a plan. He's known as the local hippie and wears that badge proudly. He works when he needs to and can leave at a moment's notice. But underneath that exterior, Jagger has a life that most don't know about. With a brother who is on the autism spectrum, Jagger wants to make sure that he's always reachable for his brother. His family has worked hard to help his younger brother feel accepted. Also, while Jagger might be the resident hippie now, he wasn't always that way. He sees a little of himself – his old self – in Didi and wants to help her break those chains. Jagger also knows that deep pain that Didi's mom caused, since he was a friend of Didi's mom before she passed.

At points, this story was a little drawn out and long. But at the heart of this story is love that not most find. It's a kind of love that consumes the pages and the reader. You will fall in love with Didi and Jagger, just as they fall in love too. The sandy days and the sad ones, the happy laughter and the giggles will all be heard well within your imagination. Foster does a great job at creating the scene that feels like you're right there with the characters. It's a love story that most dream of and one you will love!
