A sexy and soul-stirring novel about love, family, and
rediscovering what matters most by Melissa Foster, the New York
Times bestselling author of Maybe We Will.
When workaholic Boston attorney Deirdra de Messiéres is passed over for a
well-deserved promotion, she takes a two-month hiatus to show her boss just how
much he needs her and heads home to Silver Island. But beyond seeing her
sisters happy, home is not where Deirdra’s heart is. She has no interest
in their family restaurant, the Bistro, or reliving hurtful childhood memories,
and absolutely no interest in spending a single second with Josiah “Jagger”
Jones, the Bistro’s too-laid-back musician and chef. Sure, the hippie is hot,
but he drives her nuts. The guy lives in a van with his dog, and he can’t even
commit to a solid work schedule. To make matters worse, he’s always around.
She needs to get off the island, stat.
Jagger has overcome his own personal trials to place stock in life’s pleasures:
family, friends, peace… and if he has his way, one positively beautiful,
absolutely uptight attorney. Jagger knows he’s the perfect person to help
Deirdra deal with her hurtful past and find her way back to being happy.
A chance encounter leads to deep conversation, and night after liberating
night, Deirdra lets down her guard. But neither has plans to stay on Silver
Island. Free-spirited Jagger has wanderlust, and Deirdra has a career to return
to. They’re on different paths, and plans for a future together don’t stand a
chance. But when has anything gone according to plan?

This is book three in the Silver Harbor series, but as any Melissa Foster
reader knows, her books all interlink and are so much the richer for it. I am a
huge fan, and greatly enjoy feeling like I am meeting up with old friends on a
regular basis through these books!
So far, two of the sisters have had their story and found their happily ever
after, but Deirdra left the island as soon as she could, and really hates even
making a short visit. However, passed over for a promotion she felt she
deserved, she decides to show the law firm she works for that they need her,
and takes a two-month sabbatical. Inevitably, she goes to visit her sisters and
decides she will have to cope with island life until work calls her back in
desperation.
So begins a truly wonderful love story, full of elements which have been
building over the previous books – she is the only one not to have yet opened
the letter left for her by her mother before she died. She also spends time
visiting with the women who took on the role of mothers to her when her own
checked out after the death of her father. She finally takes the time to look
back from the viewpoint of an adult, not a child who had to behave like the
adult. As this happens to us at the same time, it is hugely moving and very
powerful.
And all the time there is the niggling feeling that hippy chef Jagger is
getting under her skin. His complete opposite way of life to hers annoys her,
his chilled manner, his interest in her, his attempts to make her happy... she
just doesn't get it and it causes her to feel, something she avoids as much as
possible.
I had thought that Cait's story must be the saddest, but actually Deirdra's was
more so because having to grow up so young and never get to process her own
losses, made her less able to cope with anything good. Jagger, through his
knowledge of her mum, and her finally reading her letter, makes for some
tissue-needing moments, but they are all so worth it for the new Deirdra
happiness that follows.
Another beautiful, moving, and delicious love story, thank you, Melissa Foster!

I couldn't wait for Deirdra's story, she was the one who had to raise her
little sister, Abbie, when their mom fell apart after their dad died. Being the
workaholic attorney from Boston who got passed over for a promotion she
deserved, Deirdra decided it was time to take some time off. Maybe travel and
let her company see that they made a mistake and will want her to take the job
she deserves.
When she gets to Silver Island (the place I live in, in my mind) and meets
Jagger, she doesn't realize that he is the one person who can derail her plans,
mind, and heart.
I loved the way Jagger pushed Deirdra just a little out of her comfort zone and
the way they bantered with each other. They were the perfect couple and it made
for the perfect story for Deirdra.
As with any of this author's stories, they are intertwined in some way and you
can read them as standalones or all together. It really doesn't matter, you
will love them all. This author is an automatic yes for me when a new one pops
up on the review list, and I am ready for another when I finish this one. So I
hope you enjoy this one as much as I loved it.

This is Didi's story. You've seen her sisters both find happiness, but Didi has
always held back. The protector of her sister, Abby, Didi had to grow up very
young. When her dad died, something broke in her mom too and her mom never
recovered. Now, as an adult, Didi has learned to always rely on herself and
never let a man break her. She has seen firsthand what that can do to a person.
When Didi is in need of a break, she heads to her sisters. Now that her sister
Cait is on the island too, it's always a family reunion when Didi goes back.
But the island makes Didi itchy and while she knows why, it still makes her mad
that she can't just enjoy it.
Jagger is the local who is easy going and never needs a plan. He's known as the
local hippie and wears that badge proudly. He works when he needs to and can
leave at a moment's notice. But underneath that exterior, Jagger has a life
that most don't know about. With a brother who is on the autism spectrum,
Jagger wants to make sure that he's always reachable for his brother. His
family has worked hard to help his younger brother feel accepted. Also, while
Jagger might be the resident hippie now, he wasn't always that way. He sees a
little of himself – his old self – in Didi and wants to help her break those
chains. Jagger also knows that deep pain that Didi's mom caused, since he was a
friend of Didi's mom before she passed.
At points, this story was a little drawn out and long. But at the heart of this
story is love that not most find. It's a kind of love that consumes the pages
and the reader. You will fall in love with Didi and Jagger, just as they fall
in love too. The sandy days and the sad ones, the happy laughter and the
giggles will all be heard well within your imagination. Foster does a great job
at creating the scene that feels like you're right there with the characters.
It's a love story that most dream of and one you will love!
