Because of Her by Jewel E. Ann Release Blitz

If sin weren’t pretty, it wouldn’t be so tempting. Available now in Kindle Unlimited.

“If sin weren’t pretty, it wouldn’t be so tempting.”

I was an accomplished music professor.
Happily single.
Perfectly content.

Now, I’m unemployed.
Pining for a dark, brooding guy named Jack who lives in a garage with a piano.
And I’m plotting to seduce a married man because his daughter is responsible for my nephew committing suicide.

I don’t know why teenage girls are so mean.
I don’t know why rich men cheat on their wives.
And I don’t know why Jack has serial killer vibes, even though he leaves me speechless every time he speaks.

All I know for sure is that I feel safe in a stranger’s arms and understood by someone I don’t understand.

“You should be a little scared of everyone because humans are unpredictable.”

How far will I go for revenge? More than that…
How far will he go to save me?

While Because of Her is listed as a Jack & Jill standalone, I would advise against reading it as such. For new readers, while they may not be lost or confused, they will miss out on the emotional journey, with a tinge of confusion as past events are mentioned here or there. For new readers who do finish the novel as a standalone, enjoy it, then realize they wish to start the Jack & Jill series at End of Day, the entire series plotlines will be spoiled.

Because of Her is book six in the Jack & Jill series.

While I won't be giving out a comprehensive rundown of events, I do need to warn that there are some pretty heavy triggers on the pages. Multiple suicides. Violence. On-scene sexual assault, where even when Frankie was initiating, none of it was ever consensual in my opinion.

First and foremost, I applaud a story between two mature adults in their forties and fifties. Smoking hot chemistry, tension, and revenge hijinks, as sparks fly between Jackson and Frankie.

Jackson Knight/Jude Day is the connection to the Jack & Jill series, bringing along all the important cast members, while revealing their happily ever afters for returning readers.

Frankie is a new character, paths crossing with Jackson when she is tasked with packing up her twin's home after her twin, sister-in-law, and nephew all unalived themselves within less than a year.

The beginning first few pages were confusing to me, where Frankie talks around events while at the cemetery, but I soldiered forth, only for the pages to melt away. I read the book in two sittings.

Jackson is there to surveil and end the last member from his past that is putting his family at risk. Meanwhile, Frankie discovers her nephew's grieving girlfriend may have had a hand in ending his life. The girl just so happens to be the daughter of the very man Jackson is there to end. They are both a help and a hindrance to each other's revenge pacts.

The first 40% was banterific. With a lack of morals, the petty revenge plot was hilariously entertaining for me to read. Dark yet dry humor that entertained me to no end. Not only between Jack and Frankie, but more so Frankie with Molly and both of her parents. The revenge plot was darkly entertaining. While Frankie played "Iris" with Jackson's target, I sensed there was only one direction for this storyline to go, and it was nowhere good, so I was creeped out during every single one of their interactions, especially when it painfully ended exactly where I suspected.

The last 60% wasn't nearly as fun or entertaining. It was a dark yet painful story to read, where there were small sparks of hope or humor, yet not enough to lend levity to such painful subject matter. That portion of the story was harder to read, slower, where I had to put the book down to emotionally regroup but also regain interest in continuing.

In the end, all I want to do is go back and reread the series from End of Day to re-experience the series from start to finish again.

This is officially the sixth book in the series, but in many places you will not see the fourth book, One, in the series list, so you may have that goodness to read as well as this new release!

I recently reminded myself of all this Knight & Day/Jack & Jill – what a fabulous week of reading leading up to this latest installment. This is definitely a series where I could happily enjoy new books in years to come, because the twins and their loves and lives are extraordinary, and hugely entertaining.

Jackson lost his love, focused his protective attention on their daughter, and then had to acknowledge that she had someone else who made it his life's work to do that job. He now has to make sure that ALL the people who could possibly cause problems have been removed from the world. By some rather wonderful turn of fate, he finds that someone else also has his target in her sights, but for a very different reason, and with a lot less training.

Frankie has lost her brother, his wife, and their son to suicide – and it seems that a horrible letter from the nephew's girlfriend may have been his trigger. She cannot let this go, but the girl's family are all powerful and her method of revenge may not succeed. She is currently between jobs as a music professor, so decides that she has time for her best attempt.

Whilst she stays in their home readying it for sale, she meets the very unusual tenant of their neighbour – yep, Jack – and his grand piano living in the garage. These two damaged but gorgeous people share a love of music and a fear of entanglement, but fate and chemistry ignore such issues in a truly fabulous way.

Jewel E. Ann has done such justice to the story for Jack to move forward and find his happily ever after with someone completely different and yet just as dubious as to the chance of finding happiness out of loss. I pretty much read this book in one sitting – falling asleep only once I knew everything was going to be just as I wished it to be.

Utterly engaging and heaped with memories, full of new chances and deep feelings of love, respect, and passion. A very enjoyable read, thank you.

Out of Love by Jewel E. Ann Blog Tour

Out of Love. I could love the monster or leave the man.

Conspiracies. Corruption. Serial killers.

You name it—I'm fascinated by it. My mom always blamed my overly curious and highly suspicious mind on my dad.

My incredibly overbearing dad.

Mr. No One Is Good Enough For My Daughter has been terrifying my dates since I turned fifteen.

College is my chance to be free from his control and date any guy I want.

I'm absolutely certain he would hate Slade Wylder—almost as certain as I am that I do too.

Since when have I shied away from trouble?

Slade fascinates me. He lives in a house I'm certain is haunted. His dog is trained as well as any guard I've ever seen. Rumor on campus is that he deals drugs. It would explain a lot.

But it doesn't explain why he saves me from my darkest moment.

It doesn't explain why I can't stop thinking about him.

And the explanation I finally discover is far more dangerous than any rumor.

Excerpt

After their kissy-huggy greeting ended, they walked toward the house with Jericho in tow. I waited for him to glance back at me. He saw me. There was no way he passed me a few seconds earlier on the street and didn’t see me. Yet, he made no attempt to acknowledge me.

Until…

My boy Jerry stopped abruptly and turned like he caught whiff of my scent. All the warm fuzzies filled my chest. A dog gave me more feels than any man had given me in a long time. Maybe ever.

Jericho liked me. Hell, maybe he loved me.

He protected me.

He smiled when he saw me—tongue out, tail in a low wag. I continued my way up the sidewalk, feigning surprise when he trotted toward me in spite of Slade barking his own command.

“Hey, Jerry.” I squatted down to give him double the love Miss Sophisticated gave him… and I had a treat in my pocket because part of me anticipated—hoped for—a chance encounter. “Oh, buddy… I love you too.” I closed my eyes and turned my face side to side while he showered me with kisses.

Slade cleared his throat.

I opened my eyes—noticing his friend must have gone inside. “Sorry.” I stood, sliding a treat into Jericho’s mouth along the way. “I know it’s hard for you to know he likes me more.” On a shrug, I bit my lips together to keep my shit-eating grin under control.

“Inside,” he said to Jericho while looking at me.

Jericho turned and headed to the back door.

“If you have a job to do… Jerry can hang with me tonight. I’m alone this evening.”

“Jericho. And he doesn’t need a babysitter.”

“Maybe I do.”

His brow tensed a fraction, contemplation settling into a slight frown for a few seconds, before he whistled and Jericho came running. “Send him home when your friends get back.”

Why was the only word that sat on the tip of my idle tongue? Why protect me?

“What are you going to do?” Okay, apparently “why” wasn’t the only word on the tip of my tongue after all. Six other words were in line first.

“Does it matter?”

Letting my gaze settle over his shoulder to the firehouse and images of Miss Sophisticated waiting for him, I lifted a single shoulder. “No. Just curious. Is she your girlfriend?”

“Does it matter?”

“I hate you.” I rolled my eyes. “Worst communication skills ever.”

“Good. Hate me. I prefer it.”

I recoiled. I didn’t really hate anyone. It wasn’t my personality to be hateful, vengeful, or hold grudges. Why did Slade Wylder want me to hate him? It was a joke. I hated his lack of sharing information.

“If you’re selling her some shit that will ruin her life, may I suggest you rethink that? Not cool, Wylder.”

“Noted.”

Tipping my chin up, I gave him several tiny nods. “Okay then. I’ll take Jerry to my house and spoil him. Maybe he comes back to you… maybe he doesn’t.”

Slade let his gaze slide down my body, a slow and easy trip. He didn’t do that when we met. Somewhere along the way, he decided it was okay. I wasn’t sure what reaction he desired from me.

Maybe nothing.

Maybe he did it out of pure selfish desire.

“I’m only allowing this because I love Jerry.”

Curious eyes met mine, slightly squinted.

I smirked. “Stripping me with those eyes of yours.”

Moments…

I collected moments in my mind, my heart, my soul, like Aubrey collected rare coins—my mom dying, my dad spending a few years thoroughly drunk. Mostly bad moments—permanent scars.

That moment I tucked into my memory forever as one of the first truly great moments.

Wylder…

The corners of his mouth quirked into pure sin. If Satan was hot as fuck, his name would have been Slade Wylder, and I would have been in a whole helluva lot of trouble.

4.5 stars

First things first, how does Out of Love connect to the Jack & Jill series?
Livy is Jackson and Ryn's daughter, acting like a perfect combination of her parents.

Secondly, should you read Jack & Jill first? Yes, because this story is one large spoiler, making it impossible to go back and read the series, because not only do you know the outcome of who ends up with whom, but also tragic scenarios along the way.

Livy is an overprotected daughter, fighting for her independence. What do you expect for the daughter of Jackson, right? She can barely take a breath without her father or aunt determining if she's breathing deeply enough.

This independent woman is striving to become a lawyer, her ultimate goal to enter politics. She doesn't party like the rest of her college classmates. Livy is into surfing and bad boys.

In walks in Slade, with his German Shepard, Jericho... and that's all I can tell you about him.

Out of Love was read in one sitting, cover to cover, as I had to know what happened next. Having been far too long since I read Jack & Jill, I struggled to place Livy in the family. But where it helped me is that I had forgotten the details that would have turned to clues in the mystery. Maybe if I reread, I still would have been taken by surprise. Slade was not in Livy's life for the reason I expected him to be, and I was giddy because I had no idea what was going on, thrilled to be surprised.

Why not 5 Stars?

The connection between Livy and Slade. It just wasn't there for me. Toward the end, I was invested. But where it suffered was due to Slade's lack of communication with Livy. While I fully understand why Slade didn't communicate, this took away the much-needed conversations for the reader to see Slade and Livy bonding, for the reader to understand them both together. Causing the story to not have much of an emotional gut-punch.

The only non-verbal character that made an impact on everyone around him was Jerry, aka Jericho. A simple growl told an entire story. The dog was the star of the novel.

Highly recommended to fans of the author and those who wish to continue on with the Jack & Jill series. I have a strong craving to binge a reread, as well as crossing my fingers we haven't heard from the last of this set of characters. One in particular, we need to know how his future played out.

One by Jewel E. Ann Is Now Available & Reviewed

Lake Jones is a cover girl for cutting-edge prosthetic legs, a binge-watcher of Netflix, known to spy on her neighbor through her door’s peephole, and fond of laser games with her hairless cat. She’s also a bit sexually-frustrated.

Until…

God bestows a breath of mercy upon her in the form of Minnesota’s NFL starting quarterback. But this gift is no stranger. Lake met Cage Monaghan three years earlier.

It was one day.
One moment.
One kiss that resurrected her dreams of finding love.

His dimpled smile distracts from his imperfections, which include: a love for country music, fishing, and a feline-hating girlfriend.

When life finally gives them their chance, it’s a humorous and heart-wrenching journey to find their place in the world.

"We would be Cage and Lake. We would be unpredictable. We would be reckless. We would give normality the middle finger.”

***This book is a standalone. However, it is HIGHLY recommended that any readers who have not, but may consider, reading the Jack & Jill Series, do so before reading this book. It contains spoilers to Jack & Jill.***

I love Lake Jones. I have a serious girl crush on her. I cannot even begin to express how glad I am that Jewel E. Ann decided to take the scene from Dawn of Forever, when Lake and Cage met, and give them a second chance because not only did they deserve it, the world needs more characters like Lake in it. A survivor who owns her personal brand of crazy, who’s not afraid to live because she’s afraid of being embarrassed, and whose mouth gets away from her in the most hilarious of ways. More importantly, someone who understands how unpredictable life is and loves with her whole heart because of it.

While One is a spin-off of the Jack & Jill series, it is not a romantic suspense novel. It’s a contemporary romance with plenty of laugh-out-loud moments and steam. It is not a fluffy romance because both Cage and Lake have baggage, and because their past is entwined due to an extremely intense situation, their related baggage is rather significant – and is why you shouldn’t read this first book if you plan on reading the Jack & Jill series. Yet despite the people that connect their pasts, they cannot resist fanning the flame that was struck between them three years earlier. Even though Cage’s position as Minnesota’s NFL starting quarterback and the fame, groupies, and crazy schedule that come with it serve as obstacles for them to overcome, it is the minefield of who Cage’s father and Lake’s sister-in-law were that may be the biggest hurdle in their relationship. Yet even as they navigate the rocky road they find themselves on, balancing Cage’s football career and Lake’s fitness modeling with their developing relationship won’t be easy, but neither of them is willing to waste their second chance. So while the tabloids trump up stories about affairs and they each experience demands within their career they weren’t expecting, they hang onto their time together almost desperately, because both understand that tomorrow isn’t guaranteed. Even as they strive to take life one moment, one chapter at a time, Cage and Lake are reminded more than once that some moments are only fleeting, no matter how hard you hold onto them.

This won’t be a shocker to anyone who as read Ann’s writing, but I cried. More than once. I actually bawled at the beginning of chapter thirty-eight and didn’t even know for sure what was happening. Why? Because I do believe in premonitions and Cage’s opening of that chapter ripped my heart out. That wasn’t the only time I cried, just the time I cried the hardest. Just like Lake and Penny’s conversations had me cracking up nearly every time they occurred, it was Trzy crashing Kong’s party that had me laughing the hardest. As for the moment that elicited the strongest combination of tears and laughter – Cage’s announcement at the end of the book and his inclusion of a visual aide. But this is why I love Ann’s writing so much, she makes me laugh and cry (separately and at the same time), she makes me fall in love, she breaks my heart and she heals it…she makes me FEEL. One is yet another excellent addition to Jewel E. Ann’s body of work and I’m looking forward to the book’s release so I can get my hands on the final copy in order to read the bonus epilogue. Well played, Ann. Well played.

Tugging off her shirt, she smiled. Gone were the compression bras; she didn’t burn them, but they were hauled off with the trash shortly after the infamous refrigerator sex. Lace, satin, and underwire took their place.

“What you’re doing right now feels more intimate than anything you’ve ever done to me with your mouth.”

“We’ll see about that.” He wet his lips, eyeing her white lace bra. Approval glimmered in his eyes.

She removed the rest of her clothes, eager to be in his arms. He took a step back as she moved toward him.

“Stop.”

She froze. Her hands searched for a place to be: hanging idle at her sides, covering her breasts, shielding her neatly-shaven pussy?

“Repeat after me.”

“What?” Her voice squeaked with disbelief.

He grinned as his ego gobbled up her confidence. “I’m beautiful.”

Ryn squinted.

“Say it.”

She sighed. “I’m beautiful.”

“I’m taking back every bit of confidence that bastard took from me.”

It would never happen like that, but someone who hadn’t been in her shoes could never understand. However, she loved the naked man standing before her for saying it.

“I’m taking back every bit of confidence that bastard took from me.”

“I’m worthy of happiness.”

That one hit harder than it should have. She’d never given happiness much thought.

“Say it.”

“I’m … I’m worthy of happiness.”

“I’m going to marry Jackson Knight and love him in spite of his multiple fucked-up personalities.”

“Jackson—”

“Say it.” His voice carried a rare pain and vulnerability.

“I’m going to marry Jackson Knight…” she stepped closer and rested her hands on his chest “…and I’m going to love Every. Single. One. Of his fucked-up personalities.”

“I’ve had a shit day,” he whispered, brushing his thumb along her cheek. “Until now.”

She nodded slowly, then looked up at him. “I’ve had a shit life … until now.”

“Touch me,” he said.

“Where?”

“Everywhere. Make me feel human again.”

Gutted. I was thoroughly gutted as I read Dawn of Forever. Pages upon pages of heartbreak from the past and the present collide as Ann gives us the final installment in the Jack & Jill series. Yet seven words healed it all – Sorry, Thelma … I had to tell him. That was the last line of the book and Jessica’s final thoughts as her future began, yet again. Actually, I take it back. There was an eighth word that started the healing process in the Epilogue for me and it was Jackson’s – Boobies. After 300+ pages of action, adventure, secrets, betrayal, heartache, heartbreak, laughter, tears, squirm-inducing moments, and never knowing until the very end who was going to live and who was going to die, Ann made it all better with eight words from the two people I’ve traveled this trilogy with the whole way.

I actually put off reading Dawn of Forever as long as I could. Why? Because after reading books one and two in the trilogy, I had no idea how the author could work the story out so that everyone got the happy endings they deserved. And that was because she couldn’t. People die. Hearts are broken. Love is lost. Trust is shattered. And life moves on whether you want it to or not. This is why I enjoy Ann’s books and have loved every page of this series – she doesn’t sugarcoat life for her characters, she runs them ragged, puts them through the ringer, drags them across broken glass, kicks them while they’re down, and does her best to help them find happiness where they can. Who better to appreciate happiness than those who’ve had it ripped away repeatedly?

With this being the final book in the trilogy, I’ll do my best to avoid spoilers. What I will say is that we finally learn who has been sending Jillian the texts. We find out who was responsible for the deaths of Jude and Jessica’s parents. The WHY behind their murders was beyond stunning. To say I didn’t see it coming doesn’t even do it justice because there was no way to see it coming. In this final installment the past collides with the present in such a way that would require such a suspension of belief to buy it, yet in the world of Knight and Day and G.A.I.L., it was completely believable. The rest of my review assumes you’ve read books one and two, so if you haven’t do NOT read on because it could spoil those books for you just a bit. Does Luke find Jessica? Does Ryn finally find happiness? Does Jessica live? Does Jillian live? Does Jude survive? Does Jackson survive? How far can a person be pushed before they finally break? And even then, can they be healed? How far will you go for the person you love? Would you die for them? Would you kill for them? Oh yes, Ann gives us the answers to all of these questions, but be prepared to be gutted, beaten, bashed, and bruised before you get them. My advice, wait until you can read without interruption and in a place where you feel comfortable crying, but don’t start this book before bed. I was up until 3 am finishing Dawn of Forever and it was worth every second of missed sleep.

Middle of Knight by Jewel E. Ann

The living seek forgiveness. The dead seek revenge.

A first love.
A last breath.
A haunting past.

Armed with a sinful past and an equally sinful body, Jackson Knight absolves his vow of celibacy to pursue Sergeant Monaghan’s unsuspecting—older—housekeeper.

Ryn Middleton, on the cusp of turning forty with a snarky daughter, a killer dog, and an abusive ex-husband, finds Jackson’s advances humorous and unbelievable. After intense negotiations including Vera Wang, Ed Sheeran, and sex four times a day, Ryn accepts Jackson’s marriage proposal on their first date.

What could possibly go wrong?

While struggling to lay claim to the woman of the dreams he never had, Jackson is forced to deal with a grief-stricken Jillian trying to hold on to her past without letting go of her future—the doctor who took her heart and the Sergeant who gave her a new one.

Beyond the hope for light, lies the middle of darkness, the illusion of truth, and a haunting past.

Where to begin? Oh, where to begin! I felt positively bipolar as I read Middle of Knight, but in a good way. I use the term emotional rollercoaster to describe those books that make me feel the full gamut of emotions while reading. I love emotional rollercoasters when I’m reading a book. The catharsis of an emotional rollercoaster can make reading a book a soul cleansing experience for me. But emotional rollercoaster is too mild of a term for the journey Ann took me on in Middle of Knight. I think perhaps I’ll describe it as an emotional hurricane because while I was being whipped back and forth between laughing hysterically and bawling my eyes out, there were periods of calm the lulled me into a false sense of security much like the eye of a hurricane does and them BAM!!! I was ripped out of my feeling of safety and thrown right back into the thick of things. Repeatedly. And I loved every page of it.

In Middle of Knight we pick right up where End of Day finished with AJ in the hospital after being involved in a car accident. Fortunately AJ didn’t suffer any major injuries from the accident, but the news that is revealed was devastating. To AJ. To Jillian. To me. Yep, the book started off by sending me into a fit of tears. And while I won’t tell you what it is (which is going to make this a rather vague review when it comes to the role AJ plays in this installment) I will tell you to have your tissues handy because you’re going to need them … often. Jillian’s relationship with AJ took an unexpected turn I did not expect and that broke my heart as Jillian discovered that the depths of her strength were even deeper than she realized as she faced some of the most difficult decisions she’s had to make since her parents’ death. For the record, I’m tearing up as I write this review – that’s how much Middle of Knight impacted me. And just when Jillian doesn’t think things can get any worse, a ghost from her past shows up and sends her world spinning off its axis.

In addition to continuing Jillian and AJ’s relationship, Middle of Knight gave readers a much closer look at Jackson and boy would I love to have that closer look in person. The tatted up bad boy brother whose love of his sister is so obvious it will melt your heart shows us just how sexy 40 can be for a woman. Oh yes, Jackson has a thing for older women as Jillian tells us so eloquently in a memory “Jude likes older women – smart, older women. He said it’s hard to fuck a woman’s brain out if she doesn’t actually have a brain.” And Ryn Middleton has broken Jackson’s resolve to change Jude’s manwhoring ways … kinda. I loved watching the self-professed serial one-nighter fall for a woman as completely as he does Ryn. That his banter about her being his future wife and the mother of his children was serious while Ryn took it as a joke kept their relationship light, until it wasn’t. Considering the monster that her ex-husband is, Ryn has no idea that her “luck” in unintentionally capturing Jackson’s attention has nothing to do with his looks and sexual prowess – and didn’t that make for some seriously hot scenes – but rather that his protective instincts and training will likely make him her best weapon against her ex, whether she knows it or not. I feel that storm brewing and cannot wait to see it play out.

There is so much going on in this installment in the Jack & Jill series that the storyline is constantly moving. Because of the way that Jackson and Jillian’s past so strongly affects their present, Ann moves back and forth from the present to the past and does so seamlessly. There was no confusion as to when in time we were during the story and there are so many secrets revealed that my head was spinning, but not nearly as much as the new secrets that were hinted at. I need Dawn of Forever yesterday. I need to know what secrets Jackson learned about his parents and why he feels guilty about Claire’s death. I need to know who sent Jackson’s newest piano student and what she’s doing. I need to know if Jackson and Ryn are going to stay together. I need to know what Jillian’s ghost from the past is enduring. I need to know if the end – which by the way was the biggest tear-fest of the book for me – meant what I’m worried it meant. And I really, really, really need to know WHO IS SENDING THE TEXTS?!?!? Middle of Knight is another stellar book from Ann and an excellent addition to the series that has me salivating for the next installment already.
