We’ve seen Holt and Brax dancing around each other, so to speak, throughout the entire Fog City series. In the previous book, Queen’s Ransom, both Holt and Brax were a mess, and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Silent Knight to find out why.

The story doesn’t start in the present day. Instead, we are taken back to the day Brax and Holt met on an army base in Afghanistan 14 years before. Brax is instantly taken with Holt and vows to protect him. The men bond over weekly card games and form an unbreakable friendship. It was a privilege to spend time with Brax and Holt and I felt like I was witnessing something very private and very special.

By the time the story takes us to the current day, I was completely in love with Brax and Holt and couldn’t wait to see them reach their happily ever after. But in the present day, things aren’t going so well and Brax’s career and eventually his life are in danger. But the Madigans consider Brax a member of their family and mobilise to protect him while Holt provides emotional support. Enter plenty of scheming, danger, and action to go with the developing romance between Holt and Brax.

What can I say? I totally adored Silent Knight. It pushed all my lovey dovey romance buttons, and the heat and action got my heart and blood pumping. I love this couple and the wait for their story was definitely worth it. My only complaint is that this is the final book with the series and I’m greedy, I want more time with Brax and Holt. Silent Knight is a fantastic ending to a great series.

This is the fifth book in the series, and is absolutely brilliant in that it completely brings the storyline into a whole new light – finally explaining why Brax has been so close to the family all along. If you have not read any of the previous books, then this is not the place to start, but I certainly would encourage you to start at the beginning.

Holt has been the mystery in the family dynamic – protected by Hawes and Helena from actively participating in their less than legal business, we now get to see how the loss of their parents affected him, and how he and Braxton met. I was completely enthralled by the whole unravelling of their story and the love that clearly existed between them. Having watched both his siblings find their happily ever after, it was very satisfying to finally see Holt sort out the feelings of the past and get a chance at making his world right.

This was again a tense, passionate, and addictive reading – I highly recommend this series, and it has even found its way onto my series reread list, which is a very rare event!

Queen's Ransom by Layla Reyne Release Blitz

Queen's Ransom by Layla Reyne. A Fog City Novel.

Everyone leaves.

Love is risky business when you’re an assassin.
Helena Madigan has lost loved ones to the family business before. Now that she’s in charge, she’s determined never to risk her heart again.
Except every time Celia enters the room, she takes Helena’s breath away.

But the one time someone stays…

Celia Perri likes to be helpful.
She just wants to run the family auto shop, raise her kids, and help her brother plan his wedding.
But when a drive-by shooting targets the garage, Celia’s simple life is upended.
Now ensconced within the Madigan family, there’s no escaping Helena, the blonde bombshell she’s been crushing on for months.

It could cost her everything.

As the Madigans investigate, Celia witnesses their love and loyalty up close.
And their business.
Instead of being afraid, she sees a place for herself among them. She could be a confidant and caregiver—if only Helena would stop pushing her away. If only she’d admit their mutual attraction might lead to more.
And if only someone would stop shooting at them long enough to find out.

Queen’s Ransom is the fourth book in the Fog City romantic suspense series. It can be read as a stand-alone but is best enjoyed after reading books one through three of the series.

Veronica☆☆☆☆
The fourth book in Layla Reyne’s Fog City series focuses on Helena Madigan, now leading the family business, and Celia, the sister of her future brother-in-law. I love that this is an f/f romance and that the author isn’t afraid to write about different types of couples in her series. This can be hard to find in the romance world.

A drive-by shooting leads to Celia and her kids moving into the Madigan mansion for protection. This gives the women who are already attracted to each other, more opportunity to flirt and see where things may go between them. The women have great chemistry but what I loved about Helena and Celia is that while their romance is sexy, I felt a lovely comfort when they were together. Like they just belonged with each other.

Aside from the romance, the action continues as the Madigans investigate the drive-by while they are preparing for Hawes and Chris’ upcoming wedding. This is a fast-moving story that kept me engaged the whole time. There is plenty going on. Including something is going wrong between the third Madigan sibling, Holt, and his best friend, Brax. The hints and glimpses we get into Holt and Brax have left me desperate to get my hands on their story, which is the final instalment in this series.

I loved Queen’s Ransom. It had good action, combined with a lovely romance, and getting to spend more time with Hawes and Chris was good too. This is a quick and satisfying read. I can’t wait for the final instalment of the Fog City series, Silent Knight, which is due out in May.

Ruthie☆☆☆☆
This is the fourth book in the series and I would say that you definitely need to read the previous three to understand the underlying plots and family relationships. Helena and her two brothers run the above and below board Madigan businesses. She is now in charge and taking on a lot in addition to being a practicing lawyer. Hawes and Chris are about to marry, and Holt is devastated by Brax staying away.

Chris's sister Celia has drawn Helena's attention, and then when she visits Celia at work there is a drive-by shooting. This catapults them together, as Celia's children and mother move into the mansion to stay safe. Suddenly the two women are much closer than they ever expected. Celia is just out of a horrible marriage to Dex and never had any other relationships, so she is rather beautifully innocent, but definitely interested in Helena.

As we see the complications of the family business and interplays with other local underworld criminal organisations play out, there is little opportunity for romance – but the heat is there and the hope for both of them to find happiness together. You will have to read it and find out just how it works out!

I am even more in need of Holt and Brax's story – those two are not doing well at the moment.

She missed the spark of attraction, the banter, the friendship, the hours spent with someone outside their world. And after months neck-deep in it, she needed that. Desperately.

A New Empire by Layla Reyne Instagram Tour

Legacies were made to be rewritten.

Assassin Hawes Madigan wants to do right—by his family, his organization, his city, and the man he’s falling for, ATF agent Christopher Perri. But Hawes’s rules are being challenged by someone willing to kill for the old ways. To save his soul and his empire, Hawes must make an impossible decision: fight from the outside or bend the knee to win back his throne from within.

Chris is used to being the inside man, the one undercover. Now, he’s on the outside marshaling forces in support of the man and the ring of assassins he was supposed to take down. His mission shifted when he found something that’s been missing for ten long years—a home, with Hawes.

As Hawes and Chris make a dangerous play for control, the lines between allies and traitors blur. Trusting the wrong person could destroy the legacy Hawes envisions for the Madigans. But not trusting anyone, or each other, could mean lights out on their love and lives forever.

The King and King Slayer fight together in this thrilling conclusion to the Fog City Trilogy!

A New Empire is action packed and full of tension. I kept having to remind myself to breathe because I was holding my breath all the time. I raced through the story, desperate to find out what was going to happen and how Hawes and Chris were going to get their happily ever after.

This is one of those book series that would make a great movie or TV show. I know rather than re-reading the books in this series, I’ll buy the audiobooks and listen to them over and over again.

The final instalment in the Fog City trilogy was exciting, exhilarating, incredibly sexy, and over far too quickly. Thankfully there will be spins-offs, which I hope means we will get stories for both Holt and Amelia. A New Empire is another outstanding book from Reyne.

Ruthie☆☆☆☆
This is the concluding book of the trilogy. And my advice... read them all in one go! I say this because these are so full of twists and turns, and dramatic cliffhangers, that unless it is all fresh in your mind, it is quite a challenge to remember all the loyalties or betrayals. That said, this book manages to throw a lot of other spanners into the works – to say the least. Nothing is as it seems, and yet everything is obvious!

At the heart of these books is the romance between Hawes (the King of the empire) and Chris aka Dante (undercover agent). From the beginning, their attraction to each other has been the most dangerous thing, but also gave them both a reason to carry on. Even when their secrets come out, their love for each other is enough to offer trust and a second chance. But the journey is certainly not an easy one!

This is a complex mafia-type story, with more baddies, more hacking, more eavesdropping, and more violence than you would expect. But the interactions between law & order and absolute evil are many; complicated by mixed intentions, divided loyalties, and inevitably power through arms and money. Be ready for the ride of your life.

As I said at the beginning, you will find it easier to keep up with the action if you read all three in one go. They are definitely worth the time, and I loved how everything worked out across the many strands. As you peel away the layers of deceit, it seems like they grow back, but in the end, we are left with a full and satisfying story. Thank you, Layla Reyne.

King Slayer by Layla Reyne Blog Tour

Never fall for a mark. Mission fail.

Christopher Perri—a.k.a. Dante Perry—infiltrated the Madigan organization with one goal: vengeance for his murdered partner. Falling for the assassin at the head of the table wasn't part of the plan, but Hawes Madigan is not the cold, untouchable Prince of Killers Chris expected. Everything about the newly crowned king is hot, and every inch of him eminently touchable... and off-limits once Chris's cover is blown.

Exposure couldn't come at a worse time. Hawes's throne is threatened, and Chris suspects the same person who killed his partner is behind the coup. Working with Hawes benefits them both, but Chris's employer has other ideas. Dismantling criminal organizations is what Chris does best, and his boss expects the King Slayer to deliver.

But Hawes is taking the Madigans in a new direction, one Chris can get behind, and the two men form a shaky alliance strengthened by the irresistible attraction between them... until Chris learns who killed his partner. Once he knows the truth, the King Slayer is unleashed, and Chris will stop at nothing to destroy those who betrayed him, including the king who stole his heart.

Twists and turns—and cliffhangers—continue in book two of the Fog City Trilogy. Read at your own risk!

“According to Tran,” Chris said, “the explosives are our primary objective.”

“Which are where?”

Chris poured a mug of coffee and sipped in silence, not admitting to the unknown that was more dangerous than any of the Madigans.

“Exactly,” Wheeler said, correctly reading his nonanswer. “You don’t know where they are. Explosives made by professional assassins, which could land in the hands of even worse killers. I want to eliminate the organization that made them thereby stopping them from making more and eliminating those who could put the explosives to use.”

That was one way to look at the situation. A bit Rambo-esque in its idealism, because fuck knew they couldn’t eliminate all the targets.

“And you’re going to help me,” Wheeler added.

“What do you think I’ve been doing here? The past week with the Madigans, the past month of getting everything into place, the past three years following Izzy’s leads? I’m trying to find a way in so we can identify the real killers and find the explosives.”

“Well, you failed, King Slayer.”

Chris gritted his teeth.

“Isn’t that what they call you?”

There was a reason he understood Hawes’s loathing of his Prince of Killers moniker. A reason Chris knew exactly when to needle him with it and when to let it go. Because after taking down more than a few heads of criminal empires, Chris had earned his own moniker. One he liked about as much as Hawes liked his. Unfortunately, every time he slayed a king, collateral damage was unavoidable. Innocents wrapped up in the organization. Partners, kids, organization members who were just trying to do right by their families. Another reason why Hawes’s new order had resonated with Chris, why he wanted to help him, not slay him. But Chris couldn’t tell Wheeler any of that. “Yes, that’s what they call me,” he said instead.

Wheeler grinned, victorious. “Then let’s slay the fucking king already.”

King Slayer is the second book in the Fog City series. The story picks up right from where book one, Prince of Killers, left off and is told entirely from Dante’s point of view.

Dante and Hawes’ angst-riddled love affair dominated King Slayer, even when plenty of the story deals with trying to take down whoever had the missing explosives and who is behind the attempted takedown of Hawes’ organisation. The relationship between these men is sexy, dangerous, and oh so good! This couple takes hotness to a whole new level.

This is an exciting, fast-paced read and I loved every word. The only spoiler you’ll get from me is we are left with another cliffhanger, but this one was more bearable than the last. I can’t wait for more of Hawes and Dante’s story.

Ruthie☆☆☆☆
This is the second book in a trilogy – you have to read book one to have any hope of understanding the underlying plot! I assume that you have in my review.

There is a special kind of masochism involved in reading the second book in a trilogy... You absolutely want to move on from the cliffhanger that you were left on in book one, but at the same time you know going in that you are going to be super frustrated by the end, as it won't be the end either. That said, I am clearly such a person, as there was no way that I could have this installment and wait until the final one is released!

I love how the layers are peeled away, and yet we know that there are still more to come, and much like with onion, one can expect tears, or the manly equivalent. Chris (Dante) has to deal with the fallout of his being identified by Hawes, and the complete breakdown in trust that ensues, but then we know Hawes is also keeping a secret... well, maybe more than just one, but you know the one I mean! So they both are in a crazy place, facing crazy danger, and still utterly crazy for each other – however much it annoys both of them!

A super hot pairing, with more drama, plot twists, and hope than can really be expected in a second installment, so the final one promises to be all that I hope... mostly I hope it comes out soon!

Angie☆☆☆☆
You must read the first book; this book picks up right were the first one ended. In the first book we learned all about Hawes, and in this book, we learned all about Dante. This book was packed with action and I was biting my nails a few times. Once again, this book ends in a cliffhanger but hopefully we won't have to wait long for the next one. Great series, I highly recommend it.

Prince of Killers by Layla Reyne Blog Tour

No indiscriminate killing. No collateral damage. No unvetted targets.

These are the rules Hawes Madigan lives by. Rules that make being Fog City’s Prince of Killers bearable. Soon, he’ll be king—of an organization of assassins—and the crown has never felt heavier. Until the mysterious Dante Perry swaggers into his life.

Dante looks like a rock god and carries himself like one too, all loose-limbed and casually confident. He also carries a concealed weapon, a private investigator’s license, and a message for the prince. Someone inside Hawes’s organization is out to kill the future king.

In the chaos that follows the timely warning, Hawes comes to depend on Dante. On his skills as an investigator, on the steadiness he offers, and on their moments alone when Hawes lets Dante take control. As alliances are tested and traitors exposed, Hawes needs Dante at his back and in his bed. But if the PI ever learns Hawes’s darkest secret, Hawes is sure to get a knife to the heart—and a bullet to the brain—instead.

There’s no shortage of twists and turns in this new romantic suspense trilogy from Layla Reyne. Prince of Killers is book one of three. Fair warning: buckle up, cliffhangers ahead!

Hawes’s mind whirled as Dante captured his lips. He still had questions—Holt’s and Helena’s lingering concerns about Dante couldn’t be disregarded—but no doubt, Hawes trusted Dante to handle himself when the shit hit the fan. He could use an ally, a partner, like that. And Hawes trusted Dante to handle him, especially tonight when other needs were so much closer to the surface.

Relaxing against the ladder, he opened wider for Dante’s kiss, inviting his tongue to tangle with his as it swept inside Hawes’s mouth. Dante tasted sweet, like the caramel candy he’d taken off Kane’s desk, on top of the Dante flavor Hawes had come to enjoy so much this week—dark, mysterious, dependable. A favorite cocktail that filled Hawes’s insides with steady warmth. That both ensnared and freed him. Dante’s thigh between his legs, the rhythmic rocking of hips, his hard chest beneath Hawes’s palms. The long, silky hair Hawes could wrap around his fist and hold on to. Or use to pull Dante back when it became clear, once shirts were shed and pants undone, that they were gonna fuck right there against the ladder if Hawes didn’t move them elsewhere. Granted, the blowjob Dante had given him there ranked among Hawes’s hottest sexual encounters, but it wasn’t what he wanted tonight. “I’m not sure this is better than the foyer pole.”

Dante fought his hold. “Picky, picky.”

Tugging Dante’s head back farther, Hawes licked a stripe from his throat to his ear. “Fuck me in my bed,” he whispered hotly, then released Dante’s hair and trailed his hands over his shoulders to his biceps. “And let me fall asleep in your arms after.”

Veronica☆☆☆☆☆
Prince of Killers is fast paced and action packed. My best advice before starting this book is make sure you have cleared your schedule because you’re not going to want to put it down once you start reading. Unfortunately for me, life and being unwell kept interfering with my ability to read. All I wanted to do once I started Prince of Killers was close out the world and drown in the story.

Told entirely from Hawes’ point of view, from the moment that Dante tells Hawes someone is trying to kill him I didn’t know who to trust. Even though I had various theories running through my mind, when the twists and turns happened they were not what I was expecting.

Hawes’ evolving relationship with Dante through the book is thrilling. We know that Hawes is keeping a huge secret from Dante and it was easy to see that Dante was keeping his own secret. This is a couple that I want desperately to be together, but I can’t see how it is possible once the truth come out.

Prince of Killers is a brilliant first instalment to a new series. It’s such an exciting reading and it ends with a ripper of a cliffhanger. I have no idea where this story is headed next, but I can’t wait to find out. Hopefully, Ms. Reyne won’t keep us waiting too long for the next instalment.

Ruthie☆☆☆☆
This is the first in a new series and comes with a big warning of a cliffhanger in the blurb, so if you hate them, don't write off the book, just add it to your list so that when the series is complete you can read through without delay! I, of course, am going to have to live with the unknown... but hope that Reyne is rushing the rest of the books through the system!

I am trying to think of what to say without either giving away any of the plot, or alerting you to... well, anything!

The writing is good, the characters are interesting (to say the least), and Hawes' family organisation has some cool tech and some mad skills, not always on the right side of the law, but on the side of right. The new interloper in his life, Dante, is a mystery, but the attraction between them is real. We get the story from Hawes' perspective, so Dante does not reveal anything to us in his thoughts... which hopefully means that we will get some hints in a future installment.

I have read many of Reyne's books and enjoyed them all – this is no different. I am invested in the future of these people, and... well let's hope the wait for the next book is brief!

Angie☆☆☆☆
I loved the Irish & Whiskey series and just like that series, I had a hard time getting into this book at first but when I finally did, I was all in. I knew beforehand that there was a cliffhanger but come on!!!!! Ugh, I hate cliffhangers and love them all at the same time! This trilogy seems to be on the right path to being awesome! I just hope we get Dante's point of view at some point because while I loved getting Hawes’, I want them both.
