At Feb’s nod, Dylan picked up the pad and pen. “What do you hate about Valentine’s Day?”

“Pink.”

More laughter, but all of Feb’s attention was riveted on the upturned corners of Dylan’s plum-painted lips. She idly wondered if they were soft and if they tasted like plum too.

“Okay, what else?” Dylan asked.

“What else what?”

Dylan smirked, hitching that smile higher. “Valentine’s Day. The bad.”

Blinking, she wrenched her attention from Dylan’s lips and met their gaze as she began ticking off “the bad” on her fingers.

“It’s so commercialized. It makes people believe that’s the only night someone deserves to feel special. It makes people without partners feel not special. And it makes aromantic and some ace folks feel wrong.”

The kitchen went silent, Dylan scratching notes on the pad the only sound in the rarely so quiet space. After another moment, Dylan laid down the pen and handed the pad to Feb.

Solo resos.
Local ingredients.
No pink.

Feb glanced back up, her lips lifting to match Dylan’s smug smile. “I like it.”

This is part of the Accidentally Undercover group of stories – but for me, much more excitingly it is part of Fog City and the Whiskey world, and we get to meet all our old Madigan friends. I would imagine that someone coming to them all for the first time may be a little overwhelmed, but I hope that they will go and read Prince of Killers and move through that wonderful set of books.

February Winters (what a cool name!) wants her restaurant to succeed, and is forced to open on Valentine's Day as she gets a tip off that an important reviewer will be visiting that night. Little does she know that this a big undercover operation which her cocktail-savant bartender, Jax, is involved in...

The two of them have been circling around the fact that there is a strong attraction between them, but as everything blows up, maybe they will finally get a chance to form a bond and both enjoy being part of the wider Madigan family.

I loved being back in that world, and will always ask for more!

Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆
This is the third in a series of linked standalones, and my first of them. I do think that I might have benefitted (and certainly enjoyed) the earlier ones, as there are links to both women in them.

Although this is a short read it is full of development of the relationship, and the side story of Al and CC finding themselves on the opposite sides of a business sale. It is important that both of them have connections with the business through family and friendship, but I was uncertain as to how both of them could be involved in Dram and have never met before – even if they were very busy women. It was dreamy how Al and Ezra retained their love and friendship even though divorced – that family dynamic was crazy, and wonderfully written.

I enjoyed the intensity of their sexual relationship, and how Al's experience helped to blend that into more, even that had not been either of their original intention.

This is the third book in the series and really must be read in order. There are, as fans of Reyne will know, links across other of her series, and especially Fog City. I have had the great pleasure of reading them all, and so this tied in many plot lines and got me caught up with previous leads. I liked that I could anticipate some of the probable plays for that reason!

Marsh and Levi are exhausted from the intercontinental complexities, and the double- and triple-crossing which keeps them alert and concerned for each other's safety. Thankful that David should be out of the game, they concentrate on finally bringing this nightmare to a close.

Here's hoping they can now start to enjoy the happily ever after they have found together!

King Hunt, the final instalment of Layla Reyne’s Perfect Play trilogy, picks up right where book two, Bad Bishop, finished. Levi and Marsh are separated from each other as they work different angles of the case. I loved the action, and I was torn between wanting to see Levi and Marsh bring down the bad guys and wanting the men to be back in each other's arms so I could have more of their hot and loving romance. I found the action and romance equally thrilling.

I was excited to see Marsh call on help from the Madigans, a family the subject of previous books by Reyne, to help in the operation to bring down the criminals. The bonus of having an author write multiple books and series is getting to spend more time with characters that you already love and adore.

King Hunt was an exciting conclusion to the trilogy, and I was so happy to see Marsh get his happily ever after. It has been a long time coming and well worth the wait.

This is the second book in the series, and I would suggest that not only do you need to read Dead Draw first, but I would you recommend that you read it immediately before this one. Layla Reyne has created a really complex mystery, with a lot of fabulous characters, and you really want to be completely up to date with all the crazy. There are reminders along the way, but I have to admit when I first started it, I wished I had reread Dead Draw in anticipation. Add in the fact that we also get cameos from Fog City, we have really been provided with a treat of a new novel.

Marsh has taken his new husband and stepson to the safety of his mothers' home. Here Levi gets to see a different side to Marsh and falls for him even more. Marsh still cannot consider himself worthy, and it is Levi's task, along with solving the mystery, to ensure that Marsh finally feels at home with him and his son. I loved this essential side element to the bigger story. It was so fundamental, and so important that these two men, already married due to circumstance, could find their happily ever after together.

The drama was twisted, complicated, and fast-paced, which contrasted perfectly with how slow Marsh was at believing in the love between him and Levi. I loved the conflict in pace, and the scene is now set for some really intense next steps ...


Veronica – ☆☆☆☆
This is the story that starts off calmer after the high action ending of book one. Marsh takes Levi and David to his childhood home to meet his mothers and to keep them all safe. I enjoyed the time spent on the ranch while the men regroup and work out what their next move should be to bring down the human traffickers.

When Levi and Marsh travel to Vienna, the tempo of the story starts to increase bit by bit as we meet the various players in the international investigation and meet Marsh’s friends and colleagues. As we learn about the ongoing investigation in Vienna, it was hard to know who to trust and ultimately, who the bad guys actually are. As the story headed to its climax, I got more and more nervous. I was worried that even if Levi and Marsh survived physically, that their relationship might not.

Reading Bad Bishop kept me on my toes. The twists and turns in the story surprised me and Reyne has once again provided a story with a good amount of romance, tension, and unpredictability. I always love a good mystery and crime fighting, but for me, the highlight of this story is Levi and Marsh’s relationship. I’m desperate for Marsh to get a happily ever after and I can’t wait to read King Hunt, the conclusion of this trilogy, due out next year.

This is the first in a new series, yet readers of the excellent Fog City series will already know, and possibly love, Marsh, and want all that is good for him.

He takes a slightly odd first turn to make that happen, with all good intentions, but also seriously flawed ones – and spends the rest of the book sorting out how he went wrong, and how perfect the real version of their reality could be. I did, however, find his actions fully in line with his character. A man who really did not think himself worthy, given the childhood he had, and so could only imagine Levi would marry him for his money, his skills, and his ability to solve the case. Had he valued himself more, and had Levi been in a better emotional state, it still could have taken years for them to wake up and enjoy their connection. So this was unusual, but for me worked.

Levi was a fascinating mix of extremely competent, but seriously damaged – which meant that travelling along with him as he sought to put his life back together and solve a pressing, complex, and time-consuming case was intense.

Even if we know that things are going to work out somehow, the road had plenty of landmines... and we are left needing book two with a significant degree of urgency!

Stories about fake marriages or marriages of convenience are on trend right now and I’m not the biggest fan of them. But with Dead Draw, it works well. FBI agent Levi is grieving the death of his wife, raising a teenage son, and is drowning in debt. When Marsh offers a marriage of convenience so they can work on their associated cases for the FBI, with the sweetener of paying off Levi’s debt, it is a no brainer.

Even though it is clear from the beginning that Marsh and Levi feel a mutual attraction, the romance is a lovely slow burn. Their attraction grows as they work together to uncover a human trafficking ring. I enjoyed following the investigation, chasing down leads, and the danger that results. It really kept the story moving at a swift pace, adding to the excitement.

But before I knew it, the book was coming to a close. I felt like I was just getting to know Levi and Marsh and there had not been near enough romance for me. Plus, there were unanswered questions about their investigation. I wanted more. Thankfully, Dead Draw is just the beginning of Marsh and Levi’s story and there is more to come. Dead Draw was an exciting start to this new series, and I eagerly await the next installment.

Ten years after their poly relationship was torn apart, Sean, Charlie, and Trevor come together after a funeral and their night together is passionate and heartbreaking. By the end of the first chapter, I was crying my eyes out. A murder brings them together again, soon after when they expected they wouldn’t see each other again.

This romance is simply amazing. I felt every bit of heartache, joy, and excitement that this trio felt. I gobbled up every page and was eager to see if and how this trio were going to work their way back together.

To go along with this emotional romance is the hunt for a serial killer. Mixing romance and mystery is something I love, and it is done very well here. I enjoyed the twists and turns and danger and trying to work out how the crimes in the present are connected to crimes in the past.

I found the revelation of the killer in the end to be a little unsatisfying and I can’t really put my finger on why. Perhaps I’m just annoyed because the killer wasn’t who I wanted it to be.

I loved What We May Be. It was fabulous seeing a poly romance mixed seamlessly into the crime story and seeing a poly relationship portrayed in a positive and natural way. And the mystery was great too. Five stars from me.

This is a really enjoyable, clever, romantic, erotic, and suspenseful novel. I was completely engaged from very early on with the clear problems that the three leads have between themselves, but also now with a potential serial killer.

I liked that Trev was not in law enforcement, but also got involved in solving the problem. I found that the mystery was the perfect foil to the trio working out how they could move forward from what happened before – and the revelations which go to explain what went wrong.

Definitely one to find a quiet comfy spot, and some time to spare to get into this sexy romance with a clever mystery at its core.

We’ve seen Holt and Brax dancing around each other, so to speak, throughout the entire Fog City series. In the previous book, Queen’s Ransom, both Holt and Brax were a mess, and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Silent Knight to find out why.

The story doesn’t start in the present day. Instead, we are taken back to the day Brax and Holt met on an army base in Afghanistan 14 years before. Brax is instantly taken with Holt and vows to protect him. The men bond over weekly card games and form an unbreakable friendship. It was a privilege to spend time with Brax and Holt and I felt like I was witnessing something very private and very special.

By the time the story takes us to the current day, I was completely in love with Brax and Holt and couldn’t wait to see them reach their happily ever after. But in the present day, things aren’t going so well and Brax’s career and eventually his life are in danger. But the Madigans consider Brax a member of their family and mobilise to protect him while Holt provides emotional support. Enter plenty of scheming, danger, and action to go with the developing romance between Holt and Brax.

What can I say? I totally adored Silent Knight. It pushed all my lovey dovey romance buttons, and the heat and action got my heart and blood pumping. I love this couple and the wait for their story was definitely worth it. My only complaint is that this is the final book with the series and I’m greedy, I want more time with Brax and Holt. Silent Knight is a fantastic ending to a great series.

This is the fifth book in the series, and is absolutely brilliant in that it completely brings the storyline into a whole new light – finally explaining why Brax has been so close to the family all along. If you have not read any of the previous books, then this is not the place to start, but I certainly would encourage you to start at the beginning.

Holt has been the mystery in the family dynamic – protected by Hawes and Helena from actively participating in their less than legal business, we now get to see how the loss of their parents affected him, and how he and Braxton met. I was completely enthralled by the whole unravelling of their story and the love that clearly existed between them. Having watched both his siblings find their happily ever after, it was very satisfying to finally see Holt sort out the feelings of the past and get a chance at making his world right.

This was again a tense, passionate, and addictive reading – I highly recommend this series, and it has even found its way onto my series reread list, which is a very rare event!
