Inescapable by C.J. Fallowfield

Haunted by the ghosts of her past, Alex Bishop flees to London, but soon finds that she can’t outrun her demons.

Reclusive billionaire Tate Castle enters her life as it begins to spiral out of control, and the primal attraction that flares between them knocks her world off its axis. His proposition seems to be the answer to all of her problems, but her acceptance will change their lives irreparably.

Suspense, drama, and passion follow them from the capital to his idyllic Caribbean hideout, as they struggle to reconcile their mutual desire with the deep emotional scars they bear.

Alex is quickly dragged back into her worst nightmare, where she has to fight for what she desires, and her very survival.

They learn the hard way that you can run, but you can never hide. Destiny is inescapable, it will always find you.

Inescapable is a standalone suspenseful erotic romance novel, with scenes of domestic violence that some readers might find upsetting.

Richard has a narcissistic personality disorder that is so deeply engrained that nobody sees it coming until it's too late. He preys on Isabelle and never looks back. Despite how naïve Isabelle is and how her friend, Shaz, reacts to her best friend's new relationship, you sense that something just isn't quite right.

Years later, you have Alex Bishop, a successful artist. She is an amazing artist with a past that she would like to keep to herself. Fallowfield does a great job of painting the picture of Alex's new life and ability to hide in plain sight. Alex's friends are wonderful and definitely add to the story – without them, you wouldn't get to see the fun side of Alex. You'd be left with only the serious side and the side that is constantly looking backwards.

Then you have Castle. He is the epitome of knight in shining armor. While he has a secret of his own, he can't help but be drawn to Alex and her work. He is used to getting what he wants and when Alex poses an obstacle, he does what he knows – he does whatever he can to convince her.

What follows is a story about love, finding yourself, and letting go of the past. These two share a past that is full of sadness, but they also want to find something more, something better. It's this drive that they share which allows this story to be so successful.

4.5 stars of intensity

Wow, this is not a light read in parts, that is for sure – do heed the warnings, as there are some very disturbing and frightening elements. Isabelle makes an ill-advised decision which she nearly pays for with her life, and years later there is still danger from the man she trusted.

We get a complete picture from the beginning of just what befell Alex in her previous life, and it certainly ramps up the fear factor. I had to stop reading more than once, because I just did not want the bad to happen. Sometimes with good reason, others were brilliantly plotted, and the danger passed. I really couldn't see how the long-term future could be bright, but thankfully the author knew just how to play with the reader's emotions right to the end.

It was difficult not to adore Castle from the very beginning, and it was wonderful that he was so sensitive, and caring, as well as principled and controlled. His priorities were sound, and his finances ensured that Alex had the very best chance at recovering herself and bringing him back to life too. The fairness of the situation made the story all the stronger.

Enjoy them fall for each other, working out the ways in which their relationship could work, and combining their needs and desires. I definitely recommend this book to you but do expect to get caught up in the drama, and maybe don't read it just before bedtime – I woke with a start last night thinking he was back!
