Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆
If you have read Linde's Cruel series, then you will recognise the side characters in this book – and be swept back into the Upper East Side. This can definitely be read as a standalone, but I bet you will want to go and find out more about Katherine, Natalie, et al.

Lark is living her life, finally – well, as much as her oppressive mother will allow her to – having removed herself from her family's business and back working for the New York mayor in her re-election campaign. I enjoyed the office dynamics, and intensity with which she had to operate in order to be successful. That her one and only long-ago love, Sam, is employed as a lawyer on the team throws her for six. As she finds out why he moved to New York, and deals with having to see him every day at work, she has to try and convert those feelings to friendship. Easier said than done – for both of them, as it turns out. Whilst we are set up to want them to work it all out, there is a pretty big obstacle, or three, so Linde has to convince us that there can be a solution.

Along the way we meet up with Lark's friends and get to understand a little (very little) of the way that the Upper East Side operates. There are a completely different set of rules and expectations, which add an extra dimension to the way that Sam sees Larkin.

This is a very enjoyable read with a good mix of a second-chance romance, political machinations, and the way that old money really affects your life.

The Lying Season by K.A. Linde was an interesting office romance, set in the Upper East Side.

Lark St. Vincent is the only daughter of a super wealthy, famous family. Her parents have their own idea of the life she should be living, where she has other ideas and is blazing her own trail. As a deputy campaign manager for the re-election of New York City's first female mayor, Lark is very busy. She doesn't have time to think, let alone nurture a relationship. When Sam, a ghost from Lark's past, shows up in the campaign office, the story really heats up.

Now, I will say I did enjoy parts of the story. I liked the dynamic between Lark and Sam, although I did find many parts tedious and drawn out. The back and forth, the push and pull, almost became too much. In the end, it was ALL WORTH IT!

What I really didn't like was the constant mention of the Upper East Side – this apparently has a connotation that I didn't understand. I felt it was very condescending, but from other reviews have realized it's in reference to another series by the same author.

I loved the rest of the cast – they really added to this story.

Overall, I would rate this story a strong 3.5 stars.

Sarah – ☆☆☆
This is a sweet and sometimes silly story about the relationship that builds between two young wolf shifters. In parts, it’s a fun, new adult romp. At other times, it’s a wild and slightly confusing whirlwind of events.

Chase, Tanner, and the shifter storylines are the best parts of this story. Tanner’s fear of returning to his pack is heartbreaking – even if we don’t understand the fear until later. Chase’s sense of responsibility for his young charges is very sweet and the young shifters in his care are very entertaining. However, this story is incredibly busy with far too many minor characters and continuous action. With so much going on, it’s the character and relationship building that suffers and I really struggled to connect with Tanner and Chase. The book lacks the depth and detail necessary to build romantic suspense between them. The story works better as a supernatural adventure than it does as a romance.

Fans of the author will recognise the way this story sits between the contemporary world the Faerie world. To complicate things further, this is a shifter story with shifter worldbuilding added on top of the Faerie lore. With characters from previous books introduced frequently, my head was spinning pretty quickly. While I enjoy all the ideas, there is way too much content in this book for one rather short story. At times the story is reduced to string of actions and places.

This is another book that isn’t listed as part of any specific series, but if readers haven’t read the author’s previous books – or at very least the Fae out of Water books – they’ll be struggling to keep up. I really wish that authors and publishers would start making the links between books very clear to readers before purchase. There is nothing on any site I can find that suggests it is anything other than a stand-alone novel.

E.J. Russell holds a BA and an MFA in theater, so naturally she’s spent the last three decades as a financial manager, database designer, and business-intelligence consultant. After her twin sons left for college and she no longer spent half her waking hours ferrying them to dance class, she returned to her childhood love of writing fiction. Dawn – ☆☆☆☆☆
I was so excited when this book was announced, Flame and Maddie are my favourite couple out of the Hangmen.

Throughout this whole book, my heart hurt for Flame and his struggle to understand and deal with things.

I love Maddie, she is so understanding and compassionate even though she has so many demons herself. They are just such a beautiful broken couple together.

As always, we get to see all of the other brothers, especially Lil Ash, AK, and the hilarious Viking. I loved that we get some point of view from Ash – I'm hoping we will get a book from him somewhere in the future.

This is my favourite MC series and can't wait until Viking’s story next.

Avid Reader – ☆☆☆☆☆
M/F FBI Thriller

This book has you on the edge of your seat from the beginning. We get to see Kara Quinn who is an amazing detective who is on mandatory leave. She's very unhappy about that, but also knows that it's a good time to visit her aunt. But when she's out running, trying to wait out her leave, she stumbles on a body dump site. What Kara doesn't know is that she has found one of the bodies that the Triple Killer leaves behind every few years.

Mathias Costa is trying very hard to choose people for a new mobile response team. But even though his boss has given him veto power, Costa realizes that he needs to start making some decisions. When he's called out to see the newest Triple Killer site, he knows that he's on the clock and racing against time.

With Kara on leave, she knows that she can help with the investigation. She's also a local, so that will help with the people who need to be questioned. Finally, with Costa needing all of the help he can get, he'll use Kara for her expertise, as well as for her doggedness to find the answers.

With time against them, it will take everyone's skills to figure out who the Triple Killer is and take them down. Kara is also having to contend with a trial back home and her boss keeping her in the dark on matters back at her station.

This was a great start to a new series. I can't wait to see what happens next and hope that it will be filled with as much action and mystery as this first story was. There are definitely some questions that are lingering, but it's in no way a cliffhanger story.

This gory suspense is properly frightening. Matt Costas leads an FBI team tracking a serial killer who will kill again within days. LAPD detective Kara Quinn might be on holiday, but when she finds the first body, she is determined to help Matt’s team find the killer.

The time pressure in this story adds to the suspense. The investigators know when the killer will strike, they have a good idea of who the next victims will be – and no idea who the killer is. The story is a mix of interdepartmental politics and careful investigating. The body count is substantial, and this is a pretty gory read.

I really enjoyed this book and I look forward to Matt and Kara’s continued partnership in future books. Anyone wanting a well plotted suspense with some great characters will enjoy this series.

If, like me, you are a fan of shows like Criminal Minds, The Third to Die will be right up your alley. FBI agent Matt Costa is heading up a new unit called the Mobile Response Team. Before the team is even fully formed, they are sent to the small down to Liberty Lake where LA Detective Kara Quinn has discovered a dead body while on vacation. Matt and his team are sent to investigate and the chase for the serial killer begins. Short on resources, Matt takes Kara’s help with the case. But it doesn’t take long for their relationship to become more than a professional one.

This is the first book in a new series and early on time is taken to give us some background to the characters. But not all of them and not their life story, but enough information to make us interested in them and keep turning the pages. The story is told from the point of view of various characters, including the killer – which I liked.

This is the story that starts out slowly, but the tension builds. I felt like the further I got in the faster I was turning the pages. The story takes us to a heart-pounding, action-packed climax. It is enthralling. I have to say this book would make a great movie, it was easy to see it playing out in my mind. In the aftermath, I was left wanting stories from the Mobile Response Team. I’ll be on the lookout for the next book in this series and I hope there are many more stories to come.

This is the second book in the series, and whilst you could read it as a standalone, Stocking Stuffers is a lot of fun and introduces us to Benji's sister, Sasha. We get to meet her and Perry again here, which is fun.

There is a lot of fun, sex, and some home truths being dished out in the anti-Valentine's party weekend. William has finally stood back from his workaholic life to host the weekend with his dearest friends, and this time, Sasha's brother Benji comes too. In fact, thanks to some meddling, he turns up early and the men get to know each other a little before the rest of the gang arrive.

Benji is a successful mechanic who hides a secret love for silky, soft, and supportive lingerie. But as he gets to know William, he realises that he can chance revealing this kink, and even better, William loves it – it is so lovely to watch these two men fight their normal and take a risk on opening up and, even if only for a brief moment, giving into their desires. Whilst they are very different, they have been living half a life, and trying to fit in. Finally, this weekend gives them a chance to be free. It is a joy to read and, along with their friends, want the very best for them.

Another lovely read in the series, thank you, Erin McLellan – I look forward to what is coming next!

This was a super sweet novella. Perfect light read for Valentine's Day. Benji and William have soooo much chemistry it's crazy! Very light on plot and heavy on sex. Benji and his lingerie and toys were nice to read about, and William was happy to see Benji in the sexy lingerie. If you want a fast, fluffy, steamy read, grab this book immediately!


Sarah – ☆☆☆☆
This is a ridiculous bit of Valentine’s Day fluff and I enjoyed it very much. Benji is a beautiful young mechanic who loves to wear pretty lingerie. Fate lands him on the doorstep of William, a reserved older businessman just before Valentine’s Day. And it doesn’t take long before the two men find themselves almost naked and exploring their shared kinks.

There isn’t a whole lot of plot to this story but the characters are warm and entertaining and the sex between William and Benji is steamy and a little bit kinky. There’s actually a little bit more character and relationship development than I’d expect from a book that teases the line between romance and erotica. This is a quick and easy read that left me smiling. It’s pretty much the perfect Valentine’s Day read.

Sarah – ☆☆☆
I absolutely loved the first book in this series, and I was really looking forward to this one. Unfortunately, it just didn’t quite work for me. Marcus is one of the injured soldiers recovering at Big Chance Dog Rescue and Emma is the sister of Adam, the man who started the dog rescue ranch.

On their own, both Marcus and Emma are complicated, likeable characters. Emma struggles to make ends meet while caring for her grandfather and working for her former in-laws. Marcus is desperate to speed up his recovery and return to active duty. They both have interesting, complex histories and I feel like I should have engaged with them more than I did.

I think it’s the romance that misses the mark for me. Emma doesn’t trust Marcus at all – she does have her reasons though – and I hate the judgmental assumptions she makes about him. Marcus is possibly a little bit selfish and a little too single minded to really see Emma or try to forge a healthier relationship with her. Something about the hot and cold relationship strewn with miscommunication and mistrust feels like something I’d warn a girlfriend about – not encourage.

The writing in this story feels much choppier than the writing in the first book and it took me a long time to read because my attention kept dropping off. The pacing is a little slow, the characters don’t feel quite as human as they did in the first book, and I kept picking the book up and putting it down for far too long. I still love the concept and I really hope this story is a blip and the next book is as good as the first one.

The box set as a whole was between a 4 and 5 star. There was some redundancy, but overall, these were unique couples in unique situations.

Book 1: Reaching the Edge

This story was sweet. Joe is a psychologist who is also living a lifestyle as a dom. He has known for a while now that he wants to have a long-term sub, but hasn't found the right guy. When his friends set him up, Joe is none the wiser.

Olly has been in a long-term relationship, but when he realizes that his dom doesn't love him the way he thought, Olly is crushed. To make matters worse, Olly is subjected to a prison riot that leaves its own scars.

When Joe sees Olly, it's an insta-love connection. While I am not particularly happy about that and wish that they had more time to build a foundation, I can understand the constraints of the length of the book.

Overall, this was a quick read, with some intrigue, action, and love. I liked the story okay and hope to see these characters again since Olly made me laugh.

Book 2: Living on the Edge

This was still a short book, but we got to see the characters from the previous story and meet Aiden and Heath.

Aiden seems to be a petulant young guy who has an eye for hacking. When he comes before a judge, despite being kind of sullen, Aiden is also scared. While he knows what he’s in for when the judge offers him a different path, he has no choice but to take it.

Heath isn’t quite sure what to make of his new charge. While his dad asks this of him from time to time, Heath wants to bend Aiden over and make him submit to him. It’s difficult for Heath because while he knows that Aiden is a sub, Heath can’t do anything about it while Aiden is under his supervision for his court sentence.

Once Heath and Aiden figure out where they stand with each other, the story turns into more of a mystery. I liked how everyone was involved in this story. I also liked how Heath loved that Aiden was a sub but didn’t act as a stereotypical sub.

Book 3: Dancing on the Edge

Carey is a dom who loves his sub, Alistair. However, when Alistair’s father comes back to haunt them, it will take all of the subs and doms to work together in order to get Alistair back in one piece.

Alistair’s dad is one who is beyond help. He has never accepted his son and rather than let Alistair live in peace, he wants to exert control over him and convert him to be “good.”

While this is fairly self-explanatory, it should be said that there are hints of torture in this book and while it’s not super graphic, you get the picture.

I really enjoyed watching this all be planned out and the results. It was a good feeling when they were able to execute their plan without fail and gather information on Alistair’s father too.

Book 4: A Double Edged Sword

Becket has been seen throughout this series and I’m so happy that he finally got his own story. Becket is a hard man to know. He isn’t easily read by his emotions and he has a hardness that the other doms simply don’t have. Due to Becket’s job, Christian knows that it could be dangerous, but when that danger hits incredibly close to home, both Becket and Christian will have to decide if their budding relationship can handle the stress and danger.

Becket knows that Christian is exactly who he has been looking for. They have a connection that Becket hasn’t been able to find with any other sub. But he also knows that he has been neglecting Christian for his job lately, and because of that, Becket will seriously have to consider his profession.

Christian just wants to please Becket and live a fulfilling life. When he lands a job that he loves and realizes that Becket is exactly what he has been looking for, Christian will have to believe that his dom will always be around to take care of him.

These two have a strong connection, but with the action that happens in the book, I felt that the relationship piece was kind of pushed to the side. However, I loved their relationship in the bedroom and even in the real world. Both realized they were what they needed and even with the dangers, maybe they can keep each other safe and happy.

Lucinda lives in a small village in the English countryside, surrounded by rolling hills, cows and sheep. She started writing to fill time between jobs and is now firmly and unashamedly addicted.

She loves the English weather, especially the rain, and adores a thunderstorm. She loves good food, warm company and a crackling fire. She's fascinated by the psychology of relationships, especially between men, and her stories contain some subtle (and some not so subtle) leanings towards BDSM.
