The First City by Joe Hart

In the thrilling conclusion to Joe Hart’s Dominion Trilogy, Zoey discovers who she truly is—and who she must become.

Zoey has only ever known a world with few women and a society capable of unimaginable evil. Now she’s about to learn she may be the only hope it has for salvation.

fter she and her companions flee a vicious attack, barely escaping with their lives, Zoey finds herself faced with a new threat: video evidence suggesting she is the mother of an unborn baby girl—and the key to mankind’s survival. Knowing that her former captors will stop at nothing to control the power that lies within her, Zoey sets out on her own for the last American city, Seattle, in search of answers. But a new enemy awaits her there, and the truth she seeks may lead to her destruction as well as that of all humankind.

This stunning finale, hailed by bestselling author Blake Crouch as a “rapturous, thought-provoking, [and] impossible-to-put-down thriller,” begs us all to consider what we would do when asked to choose between humanity’s survival—and our own.

I couldn't wait for this book to come out and I was not disappointed! Zoey's story continues and we finally get the answers we seek!

Just when I thought things couldn't get more bizarre, they do! I don't like to give away much of the plot in my reviews, but I definitely enjoyed this book. It was full of twist after twist and definitely had my emotions running high.

Joe Hart's mind has definitely impressed me with this one! I felt that it was not only exciting, entertaining, and thought provoking, but also well thought out and included many relatable and conceivable human reactions that greatly affected the plot. I didn't feel like I was being told the story, but felt that I was right alongside experiencing it. That is a great gift for a reader.

I am somewhat sad now that it is over, but I am not left disappointed and I would greatly recommend this series to dystopian fans or anyone looking for something new and out of the box.

The Final Trade by Joe Hart

The thrilling sequel to the runaway bestseller The Last Girl.

Zoey is not the woman she once was. She’s watched her friends die at the hands of their captors, been hunted, and returned from the brink of death. Now she must find the truth about who she is.

In search of the family she never knew, Zoey learns of personal records stored in an Idaho missile silo that may contain the information she and the other women seek. With the help of her group of newfound friends, Zoey travels to the missile facility, but among the records, they uncover information that leads to an insidious and horrific new foe: the Fae Trade, a macabre carnival of slavery and pain.

Zoey’s journey into the darkest parts of the human psyche brings her perilously close to the ever-thinning line between good and evil, and the final cost in her quest for justice might be her own humanity.

Another great read for me!

I was hooked in book one and was not let down by book two! Zoey's story continues with new characters, more action, and new twists.

Being in the "real world" has changed and hardened Zoey. She has been through a lot and lost more than she ever thought possible. While she has dealt with all of this, she has channeled all of her pain into determination, and she has become stronger in both mind and body. Zoey knows what she wants, but getting it is nearly impossible and may come at a higher price than she is willing to pay.

As she digs deeper into the past, she discovers things about the world and herself that have her worried that she may be a bit hypocritical when judging others, and it creates a ton of emotional turmoil for her sort through in the midst of all that is going on. It tests her and her relationship with all that she holds dear.

Overall, I found this book a bit less well rounded than the first, and a lot darker, but I definitely still enjoyed it. I will warn of a cliffhanger ending that left me reeling and longing for the next book!

I can't wait for book three!

The Last Girl by Joe Hart

From Wall Street Journal bestselling author Joe Hart.

A mysterious worldwide epidemic reduces the birthrate of female infants from 50 percent to less than 1 percent. Medical science and governments around the world scramble in an effort to solve the problem, but twenty-five years later there is no cure, and an entire generation grows up with a population of fewer than a thousand women.

Zoey and some of the surviving young women are housed in a scientific research compound dedicated to determining the cause. For two decades, she’s been isolated from her family, treated as a test subject, and locked away—told only that the virus has wiped out the rest of the world’s population.

Captivity is the only life Zoey has ever known, and escaping her heavily armed captors is no easy task, but she’s determined to leave before she is subjected to the next round of tests…a program that no other woman has ever returned from. Even if she’s successful, Zoey has no idea what she’ll encounter in the strange new world beyond the facility’s walls. Winning her freedom will take brutality she never imagined she possessed, as well as all her strength and cunning—but Zoey is ready for war.

I loved this book! I can't wait to read the next one. I like dystopian type books, but they can often be too bizarre. This one wasn't and I couldn't put it down.

I refuse to post too many details and spoil or confuse the storyline for others, but I will give a little info. We begin by joining the main character, Zoey. She is one of the last females on Earth, as less and less girls were being born, until the last two or so decades when only boys have been born.

Zoey has grown up in a scientific facility for the last girls to be studied in frantic efforts to fix the problems with the human race. As she ages, she begins to notice that some things just don't seem right. She begins defying the rules, and that leads to her opening up a whole new world for herself and a whole lot of trouble.

I am quite picky about which dystopian books I like, but this one instantly hooked me. The characters are all intriguing and as you read, you keep trying to figure them out with a nagging feeling that there has to be more. The beginning of the book was a bit on the slow side, but then it became packed with action and mystery which kept me turning the pages.

I can't wait for the next book and definitely recommend this one!
