Shattered by Cynthia Eden Blog Tour

In New York Times bestselling author Cynthia Eden's latest novel featuring the Last Option Search Team (LOST), one agent is forced to face her past as she uncovers secrets about the man who may be the key to her future.

Criminal psychologist Dr. Sarah Jacobs is all too familiar with the kind of bad boys who belong behind bars. But the dark, dangerous man she meets in the New Orleans underworld is a new kind of ruthless, and all too irresistible.

Jax Fontaine doesn't claim to be a good guy, but he's loyal to his own code and brutally honest about what he wants. He and Sarah may be worlds apart, but when they're skin to skin, nothing matters but the heat between them.

And when a deranged killer targets Sarah, Jax will do whatever it takes to keep her safe.

“No judgment,” he murmured. “There’s no anger in your eyes, no rage or disgust at me for being a cold bastard. No pity for the kid I was who got beaten in a dirty alley and left to die.”

“Don’t be too sure you understand what I feel.”

“Why not? I actually think I understand you very, very well.”

Sarah backed up a step.

A faint smile curved his lips. “It was there from the first time I saw you. That instant connection. Doesn’t happen often. Actually, it’s never happened to me before. I looked up, saw you, and thought—”

Sarah pretty much ran for the door.

But he caught her. His hands wrapped around her and Jax pulled her back against his body. His hold wasn’t hard or rough. Oddly, it was infinitely tender.

“Do you know what I saw when I looked in your eyes?” he whispered into her ear.

Sarah shook her head.

“You were hurting. Trying to hide your pain, but I could still see it. I looked at you and thought—I never want her to hurt again.”

Tears stung her eyes. “You don’t know me. Or what I’ve done.” Jax thought his past was bad? It was nothing compared to hers. She still had nightmares that had her waking in the night, choking for breath, and begging for help.

Help that hadn’t come. Not in time.

“Tell me why you came to see me tonight, Sarah.”

She sucked in a quick breath and decided to go with the truth. “Because I didn’t want to lie in bed and be afraid. Because I didn’t want to think about the past or the future.” Because she’d felt that insane connection between them, too.

The first time she’d seen him, she’d looked into his eyes and thought—

He can handle all my darkness. He won’t ever be afraid of what I tell him.

Because his gaze had told her that he’d already looked into hell … and hadn’t given a damn about the demons there.

He turned her in his arms. She made herself look up and into his eyes. He was so warm and strong against her. And he made her … want. Yearn for things that she’d denied herself for so very long.

Because she hadn’t wanted anyone to get close. She hadn’t trusted anyone with all her secrets.

She didn’t trust him, either. She’d be a fool to do that. But—she did want him. And every instinct Sarah possessed screamed at her that Jax Fontaine could give her the sensual oblivion she craved.

A few hours to forget. A few hours to just pretend that I’m not the freak in the room. The monster that everyone else fears.

“What do you want from me?” Jax asked her.

Just a night. She’d be leaving New Orleans soon, flying out on a plane and heading back to her little house in the suburbs of Atlanta. They wouldn’t see each other again. So no one else would know about what happened tonight. Just her.

Just him.

I highly recommend reading the first two books in this series. I guess it can be read as a standalone, there isn't a whole lot of back story needed to follow along but you miss out on so much. It is worth it to read the entire series.

Sarah's past has always been a touchy subject. Her father sits in jail for the multiple people he's killed. She vaguely remembers things that were "off" when she was a child but didn't come to the realization until much later.

Jax Fontaine is the ultimate bad boy, with one look you know he can be a dangerous man. Sarah swears to herself she can't get involved with a man like that, but he's the only one that can understand the darkness or the secrets.

There is a ton of suspense with this one. I was on the edge of my chair reading, I couldn't figure out who it was to save my life, but I couldn't stop until I knew. My only complaint was at times I wasn't sure who was talking or who was be referenced, which caused me to stop and reread but other than that I loved this one. Jax is that sexy bad boy you want to meet and Sarah wasn't the damsel in distress, she could hold her own, which was refreshing. I am looking forward to the next one.

The LOST series can be read as standalones, but for best results – read them in order.

I've been SO excited to get Sarah's story!!
She's an interesting character, the psychologist has an intense backstory and is awesome at profiling (as we've learned in the first two books). I really wanted to know what makes her tick, and see her "loosen" up a little. I was not disappointed.

Not only do we get to know Sarah, but Jax is our Hero!!
(Did I mention I love him?!)
New Orleans seem to be a melting pot of missing people, crime, and darkness. The LOST team is fully immersed in their next case which involves Sarah...

Fantastic suspense, awesome action, excellent chemistry, and super HOT scenes all come together to make an exciting story that I couldn't put down.

Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆
This is the third book in an excellent series – even though they are about the same team, and consecutive, it is possible to read as a standalone. I would however recommend them all to you. Dr. Sarah Jacobs has been a mystery member of the team to date – but all is laid bare in this fast paced, exciting and sexy read.

This is a pretty deep and dark installment, which brings together two individuals very damaged by their childhoods and both very controlled behind their masks and walls. However, somehow they recognise the darkness in each other and it brings relief to them both. This nascent romance lives carefully alongside a very suspenseful plot. The twists and turns are very well played out and leave the reader on edge until very near the end. The leads are beautifully matched and have a chemistry which sings off the page. A book which reveals some terrible evil, and yet promises a much brighter future.

Angela – ☆☆☆☆
As it has been well over a year since reading the last book in this series, I really didn’t remember much about the characters, but the author’s note informing the reader that Caught in Us is written as a standalone novel gave me no reason not to proceed. Rest assured that you can indeed read Caught in Us as a standalone because even as I began to place Dani, her brother James, and their cousin Parker, the previous books don’t really play into the story even where their timelines overlap. My inability to recall the details from Lost in Us and Found in Us had no bearing on this book or my enjoyment of it. And enjoy it, I did.

While the story is told from both Dani and Damon’s points of view, we spend more time in Dani’s head and the book begins during her senior year in high school. Dani is a self-described nerd. She knows this and accepts that she is not part of the “in crowd” and can’t compete with them. When a gorgeous new guy transfer in mid-year she enjoys the view accepting she has no chance. But Damon’s rudeness to a teacher that Dani likes sours her on him almost instantly and she has no problem telling him off when she literally runs into him later that day. Despite making bad impressions on one another, Dani and Damon form a tentative friendship that progresses to more as they spend time together. Dani learns why Damon is so rude to others, preferring not to form relationships with people he has no interest in. Despite his best intentions, Damon finds himself drawn to Dani as her innocence and calmness brings him comfort. Although both of their parents forbid them to see the other (for different reasons), Dani and Damon continue to hang out in school. But after an incident with one of Damon’s rivals puts Dani in danger, his father ships him off to boarding school and except for a chance encounter abroad, they don’t see one another for a year. And while Damon took that time to get his act together and become – in his mind – deserving of Dani, she showed her parents what it really meant for her to rebel.

Despite Caught in Us begin a new adult novel, the way in which Dani and Damon were torn apart gives it a second chance romance feel. Yes Damon is a bad boy, but not for the reason one would expect and it’s the man inside that Dani is drawn to. While Dani considers herself less than, Damon sees beyond her insecurities and is drawn to her smile, her intelligence, and her acceptance of him. Rather than rushing through their history to get to the happy ending, Hagen spends the first half of the book building Dani and Damon’s relationship during their senior year in high school and it is entertaining to read because these two can banter. Because neither is looking for more than friendship in the beginning, a firm foundation is built and it makes their progression to more believable as well as how quickly they fall back into each other when they’re reunited. The outside conflict that threatens Dani’s safety due to her relationship with Damon felt realistic and it gave Damon the opportunity to show how he’s grown by his asking James for help. While the precipitating event the led to Dani’s relationship improving with her parents was unfortunate, it was nice to see something positive come of it, especially as it also made them more accepting of Damon. Caught in Us was a very enjoyable read that combined a sweet romance between the nerdy girl and the bad boy with a bit of danger that kept me glued to my Kindle. I do hope Ms. Hagen plans to continue the series as I would love to find out how Hazel and Chase’s budding romance turns out.

Twisted by Cynthia Eden Blog Tour

In the second seductive LOST novel from New York Times bestselling author Cynthia Eden, an obsessed Last Option Search Team agent goes looking for trouble—and finds her in the Big Easy.

Dean Bannon comes to New Orleans for one reason only: to track down a missing sixteen-year-old girl. That’s before he meets the drop-dead gorgeous con artist who makes him want to lose his legendary control.

With her past, Emma Castille doesn’t claim to be psychic. She just notices things other people don’t. Like the fear in a runaway’s eyes—or the pain in an ex-FBI agent’s heart. Her chemistry with Dean is blistering, but Emma follows her passion… not someone else’s orders.

Then a madman breaks into Emma’s home and leaves a twisted message: You’re next. Now Dean refuses to let her out of his sight until he pries every last secret from her full, sexy lips. And suddenly Emma’s aching to give him everything he wants.

“You’re not psychic.”

Were they back to that?

She put her hands in her lap. Emma didn’t believe in making nervous gestures. She didn’t believe in giving away anything at all with her body language.

“What you are …” Ah, now he did smile. Her father would have called it a shit-eating grin. The more PC term was probably a Cheshire cat smile. Whatever the name, that smile annoyed her. “What you are, Ms. Castille … is a criminal. A fraud.”

Maybe she should grab her chest and dramatically gasp. She didn’t. “Wonderful for you,” Emma said. “You pulled up a background report one me.” She let her eyes widen a bit. “It’s amazing just what one can find if a person knows how to use a search engine.”

A furrow appeared between his eyes.

“How about I say what …you are?” Emma asked him. “A washed-up FBI agent who snapped on the job. You held your control tight every single day, but the bad guys—they just didn’t stop, did they? You hunted them, you stopped them, and more appeared. While you were fighting the system, they kept coming, and the bodies kept piling up on your watch.”

He shot right back to his feet. The folding chair slammed down behind him.

“You and your father bilked desperate people,” he accused. “You told them you were psychic, that you could help find their missing children. And you—”

“We found them.” Two girls who’d vanished. They’d found them. “We just didn’t get to them in time.” And she would not go back to that place.

She motioned toward Manuel. He knew the signal meant he could take over her booth. There was no way, no way, that she was going to stay there with that prick while he slammed the most painful moments from her past in Emma’s face.

Manuel, pale, tattooed, with piercings in his lips and eyebrows, quickly claimed her spot. Emma jumped to her feet. Muttered her thanks, and fled right past the guy she was starting to think of as Agent Jackass.

She pushed through the crowd. Wasn’t there always a crowd in Jackson Square? And that was why she loved the place. It was so easy to vanish in a crowd. To be anyone.

The crowd closed around her.

To be no one at all.

She hurried around the back of the cathedral. She knew the streets so well. Her home was close by. Emma would get inside and forget Agent Jackass.

I’m being followed.

Emma stilled at the intersection. A horse-drawn carriage rolled by her. Voices called out.

And he touched her.

Emma didn’t flinch. Didn’t scream. She looked down at the hand on her shoulder. “When a woman runs away from you, that means you need to stay the hell away from her.”

His hold tightened on her. “You and I aren’t done.”

She looked up at his face. Had she really thought the man was handsome? Annoying, that was all Dean Bannon was.

“I need to find that girl, and you’re the only lead I have so far.”

“Then you’re not a very good investigator.”

Shelby – ☆☆☆☆
The 2nd book in the Lost Series, can be read as a stand-alone but does incorporate characters met in the first book.
This was a thrilling romantic suspense that had me on the edge of my seat and guessing the entire book.
Dean Bannon, the tracker for the LOST group, is in New Orleans trying to find a 16 year old girl who has gone missing from Atlanta, GA. Young Julia has been missing for some time and her mother is desperately searching for her.
Dean finds Emma, who seems to be the last person to see Julia.
Emma has some peculiar skills that she offers to put into use to find Julia.
Deciding to partner up, they start the search for a homeless girl – and the person responsible for her disappearance.
Everyone has skeletons in their closet, some more than others – and sometimes those skeletons have a mind of their own.
Overall, this was a well-written and exciting story full of suspense, a touch of romance, and some super-sexy scenes!

Shannan – ☆☆☆☆
Right from the beginning Twisted jumps right in with the action. I am loving this group from LOST. The suspense, the action, the constant guessing who did it. There was insta-love in this one, which is usually a turn off but it worked.

Dean is the calm cool collected, ex-FBI agent sent to look for Julia a missing sixteen year old. He finds way more than he bargained for when he asks Emma, a street fortune teller for help. Things aren't always what they appear, monsters can hide in plain sight.

Such a good read. I love a book that keeps me guessing. Can't wait to see what happens next!

Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆
This is the second in the series, and highlights Dean, ex-FBI member of the LOST team. All the team feature, so although it is an easy stand-alone, there is some back story which adds to the book.

I really enjoyed this complex, intense and passionate action romance. It has a very strong storyline, which is tense and unpredictable, as well as having a developing relationship between the leads. It has depth and length, so is really good value reading. I recommend it to you.

“Do you think I’m a con artist or a victim?”

“I think you’re a woman who has been hurt.” No denying that. “One of my team members, Wade Monroe, is contacting the Montgomery family. We’ll get DNA from them and find out—”

“If I’m Jessica.” There was hope in the words. Enough hope to break his heart.

Gabe nodded.

“When will we know?”

It would take a few days, even with the strings that he could pull. “As soon as possible,” he said, not wanting to give her a specific timetable.

“Thank you.” Then, just like that, she was across the car, giving him a tight hug. “Thank you.”

His arms wrapped around her, an instinctive response. She smelled faintly of flowers, a sweet scent that teased his nose, and her body was soft against his.

She tried to pull away, as if realizing what she’d just done.

For an instant he was tempted to hold her, to keep her close.

She’s a client. Focus.

He let her go, but his body ached.

“I … um … I should get inside.”

Yes, she should. While he was still clutching tight to his control. The control that said he shouldn’t push her. Shouldn’t want her so much. Not when she’d already been hurt so badly.

Her fingers reached for the door.

“Let me,” he said, voice rumbling, and Gabe climbed from the Jag. In seconds he was on the passenger side, opening her door for her. She rose, and her body brushed against his.

He stepped back. Distance. He seriously needed to put some distance between then. But even with some fast steps back, he could still smell that light and sexy scent that clung to her body. And he still wanted her.

“Your shrink asked me a lot of questions about you,” Eve told him as she stood temptingly close.

Gabe inclined his head. “I’m sure—”

“I think she wanted to know why I respond so much to you.”

Oh, hell, she’d just said … He cleared his throat even as part of his body surged in quick response to her. “It’s a tense situation, you’re—”

“You don’t look at me as if I’m a victim.”

He stopped talking.

“I mean, you know what I am, but you still look at me and seem to just see me … as a woman.”

“Others see you the same way.” Doc Tyler sure did. Bastard.

“It’s different with you,” she murmured as she stepped even closer to him. Her head had tilted back so she could look into his eyes. “I don’t know what I’ve felt for other men before.”

Why did the idea of others have his body knotting with tension?

“But I know that when I see you, I want.” A hushed confession. “I just … I needed to tell you that.”

And he needed to make his self-control a hell of a lot stronger. Her lips were just inches from his, and he wanted her mouth beneath his. Wanted her lips open. Needed to taste her.

“You’re the first man I’ve wanted since I opened my eyes in that hospital.”

He could actually feel his control splintering. Client. Cli—

“You probably don’t want me. I—I might not be your type.”

Now her gaze had fallen, as if in embarrassment. Had she really just asked if she was his type? She was probably every damn man’s type.

“But you make me feel normal again, so I had to tell you—”

His fingers curved under her chin. “Eve …”

Her smile was a little too big. Too bright. “I don’t think I can handle anything else right now, I’m …” She pulled away. Stumbled onto the sidewalk. “I just wanted to tell you how I felt,” she told him again.

Then she walked into the shelter, her steps hurried. As if she were running.

From him.

He stared after her. She wanted him.

And she was so fucking beyond his reach.

When Eve walks into LOST she knows she needs Gabe's help. She's lost, she doesn't know who she is but she knows she's been through something horrifying. Gabe runs LOST, where he and his team find missing women. This case is different though, Eve isn't missing, her identity is.

This was a great read. There is so much action. I loved the pace of it. I was constantly on edge thinking I knew where it was going only to flip the page and think no now I know who it is. Loved the constant guessing! I read it in one sitting because I had to know what was going to happen.

Ms. Eden will definitely go to the top of my suspense reads list. If you love action, suspense with a love story thrown in, this is the one for you!

Shelby – ☆☆☆☆☆
Romantic Suspense at its finest, this story instantly reeled me in!

Eve is in need of guidance, she's experienced some serious trauma recently and needs answers. Unfortunately she doesn't know or remember anyone, she can't recollect who she is, or where she's from. Then she read about a last resort, people whom she hopes will find the real her.

LOST is a recovery team, led by Gabe Spencer, together they find missing people and return them to their loved ones. Although Eve presents an odd situation, one they've never dealt with, Gabe decides to take on her case.

This story was just so different from page 1 right through the end. I was constantly guessing, constantly worrying, and trying to piece it together. I liked all the characters, they all had necessary roles, and worked well together.

5 Stars!!
I was pleasantly surprised by this read. The summary seemed interesting and up my alley, but I didn't think I was going it like it as much as I did. I couldn't put it down! Just when I thought I had a hunch on who the Lady Killer is there's another twist and my theory went out the window. It's got danger, mystery, suspense and a sexy ex-SEAL. Need I say more?! ;)

Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆☆
Wow! This is one hot and suspenseful romantic thriller. It is fast paced, twists more than a salsa dancer, and has a team of hot, hot investigators.

Eve has no memory of her past – and we find out just why that is probably a good thing. Gabe leads a team (LOST) of specialists, all of whom have their own traumatic secrets, to help families find their missing loved ones. She asks him for help, and ... well the rest is an amazingly good story! I had to stop reading a couple of times, because it got too tense. I managed just fine when it was hot and passionate!

Really looking forward to reading future books in this series, as the team all deserve some solace from their pasts.

Found in Us by Layla Hagen Book Blitz

All Jessica wants -as a college graduate — is to be a good girl. She landed the job of her dreams at a museum and is trying to eliminate temptations. No more short skirts (when she can help it). No wild parties. And no men.

She particularly excels at that last thing. . .

Until her path crosses Parker’s. Again. Jessica remembers the last time their paths crossed very well. She was left with a seriously bruised ego. She knows it would be best to avoid him altogether. But the charming Brit makes it hard for her to elude his electrifying pull. He is as irresistible as he is captivating.

And enigmatic.

Because underneath the sleek Armani suit and the sweet British accent that makes her crave his touch, Parker isn’t the perfect gentleman everyone thinks he is.

He’s exactly what Jessica doesn’t want, but desperately needs.
A bad, bad boy.

**This can be read as a STANDALONE. The second book in the Lost series tells Jessica and Parker’s story.**

"I can't make up my mind," Parker says.

"About what?"

"About what I want to do with you."

I gulp. "Don't I get a say in this?"

He snaps his head up, chuckling. "Not really."

"That's not frustrating at all, you know? What are you thinking right now?"

He tugs his lower lip with his teeth. "You really want to know?"

"Yeah, I really want to know."

He shifts his weight on the edge of the seat, and when he leans forward this time, I don't back off. "I'm thinking I would very much like to see you come," he says into my ear. My mind doesn't register the full impact of his words right away. But my body does. "Anything against that, Jessica?" he whispers, his hand trailing up and down my inner thigh.

"N-no," I say in a low voice. So low that I hope he hasn't heard me. But he has. There's no other explanation as to why his hand has already found its way under my dress.

"Turn around and spread your legs," he commands.

"Parker," I mumble, "not here . . ."

"No one can see us, and Dani won't come back soon. Turn around."

Despite knowing I shouldn't, I turn around. My body no longer seems to listen to any commands of mine. I lean my back against his chest, my head resting on his shoulder, my forehead touching the base of his neck. I look into the room, trying to gauge what those in the boxes opposite us can see. But I can barely see anything in the back row of the boxes directly in front of us. There's no reason to believe anyone could see us from there. Anyone looking from above won't have a clear view of the back row either.

"Spread your legs," he repeats, his tone more authoritative than before. It sends another wave of heat through me. Burying myself in his neck, I open up for him. He doesn't touch me right away. He takes his time, trailing his fingers on the inside of my thigh, inciting a deep hunger in my core that grows with each inch of my skin he touches until I drop any pretense of shame and beg him, "Parker . . ."

When his fingers touch my intimate spot over my panties, I stiffen against him.

"You're soaked," he says, and I take immense pleasure in the slight tremble in his voice. Then his fingers start rubbing me slowly, and I dig my own fingers in the cushion of the chair as a spasm wracks through me.

This man will make me come.

Here, surrounded by people and plush velvet-covered seats.

Having read and enjoyed Lost in Us, I was excited at the prospect of reading and reviewing Found in Us. I appreciated the realism that Ms. Hagen brought to her characters in the first book and was delighted to see her write Jessica and Parker in the same manner. While I had hoped to reread Lost in Us before starting Found in Us, my schedule did not permit it, so I can assure you that it can be read as a stand-alone; any discussions of incidents from the first book are explained well enough in this book that you will know what occurred and the only one that really contributes to Jess and Parker’s story is better presented this time around as you learn about that night from their points of view.

As for the actual story, the switch between points of view between Jess and Parker provide the reader with the insight needed to better understand these two because despite Jess’s outgoing personality, she’s just as buttoned up emotionally as Parker is. That the number of chapters from Jessica’s POV outnumber his merely adds to the aloofness that is Parker and I found it an impressive way to portray his character – the reader gets small glimpses into Parker in the beginning and those glimpses increase as he opens himself more and more to Jess. Because both Jess and Parker have things in their past that haunt them, neither feel they are worthy of being loved, so they don’t trust easily. Fortunately, their draw to one another overrides their brains and they decide to see where it goes. As they spend time with one another and their relationship develops, they begin to help one another heal. And while not perfect, they are perfect for one another – until Jess learns the secret that Parker is keeping from her and she is devastated. As the title indicates, Jess and Parker find themselves in one another, so you’ll have to read the book to find out how they get there.

Ms. Hagen has delivered another great book in the Lost series. Found in Us kept me entertained from beginning to end. The chemistry between the two is electric and lead to some very enjoyable sex scenes – slight exhibitionist tendencies are revealed and increase the intensity of the scenes. While I was a tad let down by Parker’s huge secret, I had to remind myself that he is British and a public figure, so what might not be a big deal for most of the characters I read, the damage it could do to his reputation is immense. And it oh so ramped up his bad boy factor. The reveal of his secret allowed the author to lay the foundation for the next book in the series and I am already looking forward to reading Dani’s story.
