Complete Us by Lily Harlem

When two become three, it’s guaranteed the earth will move.

Patrick’s life with his shifter mate Greg is idyllic. In love and lust, they exist in a wonderful bubble of contentment and satisfaction in the Redwood Forest, giving in to their needs and desires whenever the mood takes them.

Until one day Patrick stumbles across a wild dog. His wounds are shocking, but it’s even more sickening how he got them.

Neither Patrick nor Greg can abandon the poor creature and they take him into their home and their hearts. But when the new addition to their family turns out to be so much more than a dog, can they act on what their bodies are crying out for? Will a third man in their relationship upset the applecart? He certainly thinks it will and it seems he’ll need convincing otherwise.

Reader Advisory: This book contains scenes of voyeurism, some injury description and references to violent assault.

This short shifter ménage is sex heavy and plot light. The shifter part feels a little bit like a paint-by-number story as familiar shifter tropes are added with little explanation or development. This is erotica and the bits of plot that link the sex scenes feel like afterthoughts – useful but not necessary to the story.

The characters are loosely sketched. Greg is an alpha and he lives a lifestyle D/s relationship with his human mate, Patrick. Of course, both men are gorgeous. I struggled a little with Patrick’s exaggerated ‘feminine’ nature and role. Their third, Carlos, is also gorgeous.

All of the relationship development in this story happens through sex. The pattern is familiar with the first scene between Greg and Patrick and the last one between all three as a full ménage.

Ultimately, this is basic shifter erotica. Personally, I didn’t engage with the writing style at all which made it difficult to find the story terribly sexy.

Triggers: Assault

This is the first book that I've read in this series and I kind of felt that there were some underlying issues that I didn't know about because of that.

Greg and Patrick have a D/s relationship where Greg is the shifter and Patrick is a human who belongs to Greg's pack. They love each other and have a great relationship; however, when they save Carlos, both think that they could add a third to their relationship.

This is where I felt that the story kind of went a little wonky. Greg and Patrick were both almost unwilling to just come out and say they wanted Carlos – they tiptoed around it. Also, I felt that Carlos' reactions were the most organic and Greg and Patrick's responses were not how you would normally react to someone you love.

This was a quick read and it was just okay for me.

3.5 Stars

The first part of this series I wasn't a huge fan of, but since I love Lily Harlem I thought I would give this short story a chance and I'm glad I did. It was good for a quick, sexy read. Not my favorite, not the worst either though.

I like that we get to see Pedro and Aleco alone since they are in a triad and so often you barely get to see just two connect on such an emotional level like you do in this story. There are some naughty scenes, but there are also some scenes that truly show the love that is there between each part of the triad.

That being said, the story is a bit flimsy when it comes down to the reasoning behind Julie's disappearance. I liked the story up until that point though. While I understand Aleco's thoughts, it just didn't come from the enemy in a powerful enough way to make me believe it from the enemy’s side of things.

Run Away with Me by Lily Harlem

When Jude is offered a lift to anywhere on the back of a handsome stranger’s Harley, he throws caution to the wind and jumps on for the ride.

Jude has a boring office job in a sunny but deadly dull Californian town. The highlight of his day is sitting home alone with pizza and beer. So naturally, when Neo wants to take off into the sunset, with Jude in tow, he doesn’t argue.

Neo makes up his own rules. Deciding quickly that Jude is the mate for him, he breaks into a beautiful beachside home pretending it’s his in order to impress the sexy man he’s picked up. He’s hoping things are going to get hot and sweaty between them real quick.

But the cops are onto them, and as Neo makes a run for it, Jude is hauled off to the police station. It’s not looking good, what started out so promising has now left a bitter taste in Jude’s mouth.

Will Neo come back for him? And if so can he explain why whenever the huge black dog is around, he’s not? And can he really throw his life into the air and see where it lands? These are all questions that Jude’s mind, body and heart need to know the answer to.

Having read numerous other stories by Lily Harlem, I was excited to start this book. However, I have to say that it really just didn't work for me. The relationship is rushed, the feelings are rushed, everything is just WAY over the top and unbelievable. I mean really, who would just drop everything for someone they know absolutely nothing about? Even if they hate their lives, it's just... strange.

I will say that the hotness between characters was definitely there and that is the only saving grace for me. I hate to not be able to give an author I absolutely adore a good rating, so this hurts to say, but this was just not good.

Erica☆☆☆
Lily Harlem is a new-to-me author, with an easy-to-read writing style which had a swift pacing. I enjoy novellas, because I don't necessarily have a lot of time on my hands to sit down and read a day's worth of hours to fit in an entire story. I appreciate what a novella is and don't judge it against what it isn't.

Run Away with Me was a quick read, taking me a little over an hour. The blurb truly does sum up the total of the story. Jude is leaving work and meets a strange man, and runs away with him, with the naivety and lack of self-preservation of a person taking candy from a stranger in a van.

To be honest, even at the pacing a novella must be due to length, Run Away with Me was probably one of the most instantaneous books I've ever read. Instant attraction. Instant trust. Instant sex. Instant connection. Jude instantly leaving everything behind in the blink of an eye. No background. I didn't know anything about the narrator with the exception of what was happening in the now, and it was all on the surface, showing/telling nothing beneath.

While entertaining if belief was suspended, if I took more than a minute to think about what was on the pages, doubt crept in. I recommend reading at a rapid pace, taking the book at face-value, and not expecting it to be anything more than as advertised. A quick novella, featuring MM situations, shifters devoid of paranormal world-building, without much substance.

I'll say this is all on me, reading a book that isn't my cup of tea. I won't judge a novella against longer books, or those not in its genre. I also won't rate a book based on the fact that I hoped it would have more depth. Even listed as erotica, I did expect a plot. Run Away with Me used its plot as a vehicle to drive straight into sex, and that's not the type of reader I am. If you are, no doubt you'll enjoy this quick, sexy escape.

Bad Idea by Lily Harlem

Bad ideas can sometimes be the best!

Roughneck Riders are not an MC club you mess with, least of all their rough and tough gang leader Heavy. But Heavy has a secret that has to be kept, no matter what—his heart belongs to a man. It shouldn’t. He’s supposed to be into women, like the other guys in the club. Junk is just too cute to resist, though. Add in his delectable body, his sweet submission and his willingness to accept Heavy’s sadism, and the couple are a perfect match.

Junk’s a probie, proving his worth to the club and demonstrating his mechanical know-how. He’s lived on the edge for a long time, flitting from one place to the next. But now that he’s settling in as a Roughneck, life is looking up. Not least because he’s in love—soul-eating, cock-thickening obsessive love. He can’t tell anyone about his desire for Heavy, but what he can do is push his lover’s buttons, all day, in full view of everyone, until he’s damned sure the night will bring a whole host of sinful delights and wicked punishments that will leave him marked, bruised and most of all, wholly satisfied.

For a very short book, this packs a lot of punch – when the president of an MC is gay, and he is in a covert relationship with a proby, things can only be complicated. We get to share just one evening of their lives, but are treated to the danger, the lust, and the love that these two men feel – and the philosophical approach that they seem destined to follow.

Heat of the Day by Lily Harlem

When three become two with no explanation, emotions run high, passions flare and hearts are ripped apart.

Everyone can remember a perfect summer—one with endless blue skies, a heart brimming with true love and nights full of hot, sweaty lust. Well we’ve just had a summer like that, Piper and I, and it was spent in Spain with a man who had that certain je ne sais quoi that we couldn’t resist.

Seraphim came into our lives and blinded us with his beauty, his charisma and his exotic charm. His generosity with his mind, his affection and his body blew us away and the three of us became a joyously tangled trio who needed nothing more than to be together.

So when he left, when we had no way of tracing him, the despair was black, the pain raw and our only comfort was each other. But why did Sera leave? What would make a man walk away from his lovers? And if he showed up again on the doorstep, what the hell would happen after so much angst? One thing’s for sure, it would be an explosive reunion in many ways. Absence might make the heart grow fonder, but it can make the rest of the body highly volatile as need wars with hurt, and pain collides with desire.

This is a really short, hot and steamy read. Two long time lovers have made space for a third, and now feel bereft without him. We see just how close they are to each other, and how they will survive the loss, but how they really do not want to be without Sera. Unusual for a short story, we get three well rounded characters, development of them as people and a vision of their future. We also get some scorching memories and some seriously hot make-up sessions.

Perfect afternoon's reading and daydreaming material!

Another HOT read by Lily Harlem. She never lets down with her stories. I absolutely loved the dom/sub aspect of the relationship and the way it wasn't abused, but worked for the couple. It was hot and sensual while loving at the same time. Even though the story was short and we didn't get a ton of background on the characters, I still felt connected to their relationship and what they needed from each other.

I loved how there was the introduction of something new to the couple while also the old and familiar to both of them. Plus, the way the characters responded to each other's signs without always needing words was great. Showed how a true and positive d/s relationship should be. The fact that the dom set the table and didn't force his sub to be his slave, but his lover was really wonderful too as most stories portray subs as slaves to their doms.

Can't say I have a single complaint about this story. It was absolutely fantastic.

Rule Breaker by Lily Harlem

Locks, keys and prison bars can’t contain a love that’s meant to roam wild and free, but when that love is let loose, will Lacey be able to handle what’s heading her way?

Rules are meant to protect the innocent and keep danger at bay—except for me. The lines blur, and it all started when I met the ultimate bad boy. But is he? Miller Davenport might be big, bad and brimming with sin but he’s confessed his crimes and for ten years he’s served his time and walked the line.

Everyone deserves a second chance, right? And as his nurse—the one person who understands him—I can’t help but count the days till we can be together properly, without guards watching over us and without every look and word we share censored.

When that day comes, though, will our desire for each other explode and take me to the new heights he’s promised? And if so, how will I survive such intensity?

One thing is for sure. With Miller I’ll be whisked up in a whirlwind of his dark energy and a tornado of his lust, and likely taken to the very edge of what I can handle. I can’t help a few nerves, though, as release day approaches, because if it all comes crashing down, who can I depend on when I’ve ridden into the sunset with a man who’s broken all the rules? Will I be saved or will I have pushed everyone and everything too far?

Reader Advisory: This book contains scenes of exhibitionism, anal play and light restraint.

Sigh... Another great book by Lily Harlem. This was totally different than I thought it was going to be but I just freaking loved it. Although I saw some of the twists coming and it made me grind my teeth in anger at Miller and his choices, I still loved him.

The chemistry is offffff the charts. So HOT.

I didn't like Shay. Sorry. I just didn't. He wasn't Miller. I would've loved to have gotten more of Miller and Lacey out in public so we could've seen some more of their fantasies played out, but whew the ones we got to see where pretty awesome too.

While I enjoyed the hotness of the book, the real reason is because the whole book was so well written I didn't have to over think the plot as it was easy to follow along and sucked me in. I had to know what was going to happen and if a relationship between a prisoner and a prison nurse could actually work in the outside world.

Lee’Anne☆☆☆☆
This was a pretty good read, it had a slow start but picks up pretty quickly. I’m giving it 4 stars. Lacey is a prison nurse who has developed feelings for one of her inmates, Miller. On the day of his release he asks Lacey to meet him at a pub near the prison. When they meet the sparks are even more intense than they were when they were in the prison and a steamy affair begins. Lacey is worried that Miller isn’t really reformed, but Miller sets out to be a good man for Lacey.

This is a super steamy read that was quite enjoyable. It had me on the edge of my seat once I hit the half way mark. I look forward to reading more from Lily Harlem.

Libby meant to divorce him. She was granted the decree nisi but never quite got round to making it final. They both know she’s still his wife—in the eyes of the law—but is she still his submissive? His to spank?

Should she agree to be spanked? Just the once? It would all be in the name of research, of course…

When journalist Kirsten Anderson is told by her boss to write an article about BDSM she’s extremely reluctant. She tries to get out of it by claiming she doesn’t know anything about BDSM, but that isn’t strictly true. None of her colleagues know about her kinky past and she has no intention of letting them find out, but she isn’t in a position to turn the assignment down either.

When her friend Chloe sees how stressed Kirsten is about the article she offers to take her to a BDSM club to find some inspiration. Kirsten agrees, but doesn’t mention that she used to go to this particular club regularly until a bad experience made her turn her back on the kinky lifestyle three years earlier.

Returning to the club and watching the scenes around them reminds Kirsten what she’s missing. She’s envious of the girl being flogged by her Dom nearby, but she’s so busy denying it that she doesn’t recognize the burning need inside her. Until she spots Eddie—a colleague she’s got a secret crush on—working in the club as a Dungeon Monitor.

Eddie reintroduces her to the joys of Dominance and submission, the delicious sting of a spanking and the incredible sex that follows. But is she strong enough to conquer her fears?

Silk and Decadence
by
Wendi Zwaduk

There is always fun in the club, but taking the fun outside and into life might be exactly what’s needed for a lifetime of passion.

Sadie has never claimed to be a good girl. She loves to be at Push, a local dance and BDSM club, but she longs for more—especially with Master E. The blond-haired man with the sparkling brown eyes is everything she wants in a Dom. Too bad he’s also her boss at Delight Tonight. When they finally get together, their chemistry in the club is off the charts. Will that same passion translate into the real world or are they destined to crash and burn?

Elias likes his no-strings life, but once he plays with his mystery woman he rethinks his choice. She responds to him and his spankings like no other, making him want to break his rules. He longs to reveal his identity to her, but the risks could outweigh the reward. Will the relationship survive outside the club?

He’s about to find out just how decadent a little complication, complete with silk and spankings, can be.

Emma is new to this game of punishment and pain, while Leo’s an old hand who shows no interest in love. Emma dreams of winning him over, but has a guilty secret she fears could ruin everything. Overall an interesting mix of stories, some better than others, and some hot reading.

In the Eyes of the Law
This is an interesting scene out of a couple's life, which starts with a spanking, but resolves some long time hurt. It is well written and satisfying.

Spicing it Up
What a perfectly descriptive title for this very hot and fun read. Loving, sexy and tantalising.

Kneel For You
After a bad experience, Kirsten has foregone her lifestyle of submission. However a writing assignment takes her back to the very club where she was hurt. This time the outcome is very different. Very sweet little story.

Silk and Decadence
I felt that this could have been better within a longer story. It was rather rushed, and some of the conversation contents would have been better as actions than chatter – there was a lot of explanation. It was inevitable given the shortness of the story.

Properly or Not at All
This is a very hot story which definitely is advisable to read when in private! The couple are in a long term relationship and a small hiccup forces them to make some changes ... very steamy read!

A Private Education
Oh, lucky librarian! How I would love to come across such a particular library, let alone such a particular man. Fun frolic into the modern aristocracy.
