Grace is just your average college student until she is brutalized. What follows is a tale of how she gains her power back.

She becomes almost obsessed with finding people who harm others – brutalize them and who the justice system either hasn't caught up with or they seemed to skirt the system.

This is a dark tale and if you are faint of heart, it's not for you.

Zoe is another character, as well as Adam, who help Grace find her power, but who also have the power to take away her free will.

I enjoyed the psychological thriller and how the twists and turns wove through the story. While it was dark and twisty, it also had a quasi-good message about not living your life as a victim.

I always jump at the chance to read anything by this author. I love her and her books. This book wasn't what I was expecting, but still very good. It isn't for the faint of heart – this book has a lot of triggers in it, so please make sure you know what you are going into. With that being said, you are in for one hell of a ride. I enjoyed the story, it kept my attention and was for sure a page turner. Twisted as it was, it was a powerful story.

Obscura was a difficult book to read, please be mindful of the warnings in the beginning – these are serious.

One moment, just one moment in time has the power to completely annihilate a person. That one moment has the ability to change one so completely that they don't know who they are. A weak person might not be able to rise from the ashes, where a strong person may not recognize the power they wield.

This story was devastating yet uplifting (in a twisted sort of way). Grace has been dealt a rough hand in life, she has to learn how to re-live her life. Thankfully, she has a few people in her corner that she can rely on. Zoe is one of those important characters, she is a wild-child where Grace is more meek and mild. I enjoyed reading about both of these ladies, I liked the differences between them. I liked how they both fed off the other.

Not many stories exist where women kick some serious butt. I've never read anything like Obscura, in this regard. Imagine a world where the patriarchy lived in fear of retribution from women! Just IMAGINE. I loved this aspect, absolutely loved it.

Overall, the subject matter was dark, it was twisted, and it was difficult. Please don't let this detract from the book, because this isn't the entire story. This story is about the strength and power that women hold.

Beard – check. Tattoos – check. Piercings – check. Hottie – check. This book had a little bit of everything. Although it wasn’t my favorite book by Jaden Wilkes, I know her Grandma Zana is looking down on Jaden and is so damn proud of her! I don’t want to give away any spoilers because you really need to read this book to find out what happens but as a person who hates clowns I tried to let that fact go when reading this book, even after reading it, I hate to say it, I still hate clowns. LOL.

“How was your day?” she asked, with the intimacy of a long married couple.

“Sounds good,” she replied, “any chance of wifi or a tablet or something?”

“Not yet,” I said, “Billy’s still out there, who knows where he’ll be watching and waiting to find you. He’s apparently pissed that you got away. I’ve heard through the grapevine that he’s willing to pay top dollar to have you killed.”

She flinched when I said it and dropped her gaze to the floor. “Did you talk to him? Did he…say anything?”

“I haven’t spoken to him directly, I’ve just heard things. You don’t still…care for him, do you?”

“Oh god, no. I don’t know why I wasted so much time with him in first place. I’m so embarrassed that I stuck with him, that you saw…”

Her voice trailed off and she felt stiff against me. She was highly self-conscious of her terrible choices, her shitty background and her impoverished upbringing.

Perfect.

I could deconstruct her and rebuild her into the kind of women she should be. The kind of woman who was worthy of being my Pet.

I had about a month to work on her before the wedding. I promised myself two weeks and I’d be taking her to meet the parents.

Jude has everything but he isn’t satisfied, so he kills for pleasure. Ronnie is a struggling waitress who is abused by her boyfriend and dreaming of a knight in shining armor to save her. Jude wants Ronnie, but will she want him after she finds out who and what he really is? Then there is the man who is trying to find the CK killer, Donovan Blake, he has his own past which is dark and you get to see just a little bit of it at the end of this book. This was a great start to the series. I can’t wait to see what happens with Jude and Ronnie. It was a dark book but I have a feeling it will get darker and dirtier, just like I like it!

Wow! I have to say that Serial is off to a blood-curdling start. As this is the first book in the series, it serves to set the stage – introducing the major players, getting a lay of the land, and providing a good amount of background on Jude and insight his sociopathic tendencies. I liked how the authors took us inside Jude’s mind when his urge to kill would come on him and drug us along for the ride when he fed his red. The care with which Ms. White and Ms. Wilkes develop Jude’s character and kills is impressive. As is the abused persona that inhabits Ronnie’s character. It is obvious that these ladies have done their research in both of these disturbing topics and have got to great pains to get their creation right. The interactions feel real as do the murders. I will admit that there was one murder in this volume that I wish could have been done more than once because that individual deserved to die, repeatedly.

Like most, I read for different reasons and the books I choose tend to depend upon my mood (yes, even when I sign up for a review). Sometime I read to get away, to laugh, to fall in love, to fall in lust, to be entertained, to look at the world in a way that is not my normal view, to expand my horizons, and to challenge my belief system. Sometimes I want the book to be so fantastical a work of fiction that there is little or no basis in reality. Other times I like my book to be a work of fiction with a healthy dose of reality. Serial falls into this latter category and provides one heck of a read. This is not a love story (at least not yet) nor is this erotica, this is the mind of a serial killer – so strap in and enjoy the ride because it promises to be a bumpy one full of twists, turns, and things that go bump in the night. I, for one, cannot wait until Volume Two’s release.


Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆
This is a collaboration between two writers who have made the genre of dark romance more dark than the deepest coal mine. So I shouldn't have been surprised at the level of warped, but ... wow! It is hot, disconcertingly addictive, and fascinating for the voyeur reader.

I usually don't like episodic stories, but in this case an opportunity to cleanse the brain is welcome – just not for too long.

I cannot really say whether you will enjoy it, as this isn't a standard romantic tale, but it is definitely well written. What I would like to say is if you know it's not going to be your thing, then don't read it. There is no shortage of books, so why put yourself through it and then complain about the content – the blurb is very clear.

Once again Jaden you nailed it!!!

Loved this book, I was shocked that I actually got a little teary eyed at some parts, but man was it good! Once again there is so much hotness between Columbia and Dimitri and they are on a mission. Things go wrong and it is up to Dimitri to fix things and find his little dove. I loved the introduction to new characters and I can’t wait to see what happens next. This was an emotional book but it was so good and it just proves that there is always hope.

Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆☆
This is the third in the series, and I have loved them all. That said, I had to psyche myself up to start Little Dove, as these are dark, painful, violent stories. They are also brilliant, and reveal layers of humanity to their characters, but from a comfy chair, they make for difficult reading. Now I know the story, I will read it again, with a little less angst, but first time round, it is nail-biting stuff (and I don't bite my nails!). I'm not going to reveal even the slightest bit of the story, but be assured it is another excellent tale.

The writing is good, the tension superb, and the plot suspenseful. At the same time, it is deeply caring, loving and sexy. Dimi, Columbia, and Nico are all people that we have been given great access to – we know their dark sides, their fears and their limits – so what hurts them, hurts the reader too. It makes for an exhausting, but meaningful journey. I am both spent, and exultant.

Thank you Ms. Wilkes for another stunning read.

“Would you like me to take you straight home, Sir?” my driver asks as I settle into the back of the company car. It's long, sleek, black and classic. Unfortunately it will also stand out too much in the neighbourhood I want to cruise tonight.

I am just looking. Window shopping if you will. I haven’t killed a woman for almost three months now and I can feel the urge building up in the back of my brain. Work was a bust, it’s a good thing I’m the boss or I would have been fired every damn time I start to cycle. I get so distracted I can barely remember my own name.

I can’t help it, I truly can’t. I’ve researched addiction, Googled the fuck out of everything from, “How do I stop killing” to “Frontal lobotomy results sociopathy” when the going gets tough.

It’s not a morals thing. Don’t get me wrong. I believe I am on a mission and the women who choose me are already dying by the time they accept their fate.

It’s more of an inconvenience and timing thing. I’ve been doing it for over a decade. I’ve killed many, many women. I couldn’t tell you how many off the top of my head, I’d have to count my trophies to be sure, but ballpark around twenty five.

Chances are I’m going to get caught eventually. And I don’t want to get caught. Getting caught will be such a bore. Such a drag. Such a stock fiasco. Our company shares will plummet once it’s realized the head is such a fucking nutjob.

I’m usually very good at business, the thing that allows me to slit the throat of a woman and take my knife to her breast is the very thing that allows me to make logical business decisions without flinching.

Every CEO is a sociopath. They have to be. Business is not very pleasant, and only the worst men with the darkest hearts survive up the tangled rivers of boardrooms and back room deals.

So I try to fight my urges, for my family, my business and for the simple fucking fact that I don’t want to end up behind bars.

Lily White is a dark writer who likes to dabble on the taboo side of eroticism. Most of the time she can be found wandering around aimlessly while her mind is stuck in some twisted power play between two characters in her head. You may recognize her in public by the confused expression, random mumbling, and occasional giggle while thinking up a scene. Lily's favorite things in life are reading, thinking about reading, buying books for reading....and writing.
