Sleighed It by Max Monroe

From the New York Times & USA Today bestselling author of Tapping the Billionaire comes a Billionaire Bad Boys Holiday Novella.

Question: What would you do if every holiday you ever spent with your family ended in disaster?

I’ll tell you: you’d cry.

I know, because each and every celebration with my family ends in chaos—and I’ve had more than my share of mental breakdowns because of it.

But I’m done with the tears, the insanity—I refuse to take it anymore.

This Christmas is going to be perfect.

I’ll put Thatch in a fluffing Santa Claus suit and have him tap dance to Jingle Bells, if I have to. I deserve Christmas smiles and that feel-good Christmas high I’ve been missing.

My name is Georgia Brooks, and by Christmas night, my husband, my kids, and my closest friends will be thinking only one fluffing thing…

She Sleighed It.

Five Fluffin' Stars for this holiday novella.

When this book hit my Kindle, I stopped what I was doing and sat down for this wild ride.

I adore Georgia and her quest for her the "perfect" holiday. We've all been there, we get it. For once, you want everything to be perfect, or least, not awful. In Georgie's world, it’s the not being with her, you know the ones that raised her and have NO filters. She wants it to just be her family, the one that she created for herself: Kline, the two adorable kids they made, and her eccentric friends. Not her parents, her uncle and cousins, or her wayward brother who claims to have to "work" Christmas Day.

Unfortunately, someone didn't get the memo and now Georgie's parents are camped out in an RV in front of their cabin in the woods and Wes invited half the football team to join in. Oh, and Mama Cummings revealed that she has NEVER made non-alcoholic eggnog.

Kline has his hands full trying to get his Benny to relax and go with the flow, and if he didn't think she'd have a stroke on the spot, I think he just might try to convince her that baby #3 is on his Christmas wish list.

Oh, and the nutjob who invited her parents... well, you'll just have to read it to find out for yourself. Let's just say, Georgie has been bested by someone she never considered to be in the game.

Mary Jo☆☆☆☆
I wondered how Julian was going to be redeemed. For so long, the only glimpses of Julian left a bad taste in my mouth. He was a junkie, a former friend who seemed to care little for his friends, only wanting the money that was "owed" him. He was the token bad guy used to further the stories of his friends toward their own happy endings.

The brief arc of him and Kendall and his subsequent appearances of wanting to talk to Kendall had me hoping that we would get their story and last night, I stayed up late just to find out what Julian had to offer.

His motives for doing the things he did resonated in me. Not the stupidity of hiding things from his best friends, but the underlying feelings: the humiliation, the embarrassment, and the overwhelming feeling of not being good enough. Should Julian, at twenty, be grown up enough to own the fact that his parents weren't perfect? Probably. What really got me was that Julian didn't consider himself enough to trust his friends with his secrets.

Kendall's story is a little more well known to the readers of this series, but here we get to see her point of view and how her illness affects her. Kendall doesn't want to be sick, she wants so desperately to be normal and to not be a disappointment to the people that love her.

As the story progresses, I was able to see that both Julian and Kendall take their recovery very seriously and how much the other's success mean to them.

I would have like to have seen more resolution between Kade and Julian on paper, but knowing how men are... I would have been left wanting, I fear.

As a series end, I feel as though this book wrapped up any loose ends that may have been left dangling.

Julian was not my favorite character in the previous books, but I think that in this book, he has redeemed himself. I felt that he was able to overcome and really show people around him that he wanted to change and keep those changes. He shows, first of all, with his adoption of the pooch. I love how he interacts with the animal and likes how he's able to see Kendall in a different light.

Kendall is working on herself. She knows that her mental illness affected her life and everyone around her. However, she wants to better herself and finds that working with animals helps her keep herself grounded. Kendall wants to make amends with her sister and brother-in-law – she feels guilty for her illness.

I think where they went wrong, the romance was too fast for me. Everything was okay within a week and it seemed almost like an insta-love story again. I do wish that they had resolved more within themselves and their relationship before the amends were made.

Overall, this wrapped everything up in a nice bow, so it was satisfactory that way.

Ruthie☆☆☆☆
This is the fourth book in the series – and I really would recommend that you read them in order, as there is an underlying plot and each book introduces us to a new couple, who then appear in future stories.

This is not an easy read, there are a lot of issues which have been dragging both these people down – let alone what happened in the past. Ms. Phillips does a good job of making us question everything on Kendall's behalf, but also want to give Julian a chance to redeem himself. The romance is sweet, hot, and appealing – the background makes it difficult to believe that at times, but the gentleness and care are so effectively demonstrated that, in the end, one can only be hoping that there is a happy ending for this pair.

It was really good to get Julian's side of the Blink story, and I look forward to there being more from this interesting group of people.

Billionaire Bad Boys: Rich, Powerful and sexy as hell.

She’s desperate to save her family company and there’s only one man who can help. But Derek isn’t interested in helping. He wants to possess both the company and the woman he’s never been able to forget.

His plan? To seduce her out of his head. Except once he’s had a taste of Cassie, he doesn’t want to let her go. Her family remembers where he came from, and they won’t allow it. When the truth about their pasts comes to light, though, it may be Cassie who’s going down hard.

Mary Jo☆☆☆☆
Whenever I pick up a book by Carly Phillips, I know I'm going to a find a story that is going to pull me in and I won't put it down until I'm finished. That happened once again with Going Down Hard.

Derek West is a self-made man, growing up poor and disadvantaged, he managed to go to college on a scholarship and, along with three of buddies, created an app that stormed the tech world. The people his family worked for were rich and powerful, but mostly conceited and arrogant. Except for Cassandra, she seems to be real and hiding it beneath the superficial veneer.

Cassie Storm is doing everything she can to save the PR empire her grandfather started but her father is set is in his old ways and hasn't embraced the tech age. But today, her father is going to make announcement that is going to change her life forever – she knows that he is going to give her a chance to turn this company around. Until he gives it to her brother, the wayward Spencer Storm, who's been living it up in Europe doing who knows what and being irresponsible.

This is a second chance story intertwined with family drama. I love the way that Ms. Phillips can take a simple plot line and thread complex throughout.

The next book in this series is about Julian and Kendall and I honestly can't wait to see how she redeems Julian and makes him worth rooting for.

Triggers: Sexism

Derek is looking for revenge. He was living a good life with his mom and dad. His parents were servants in Cassie's house. When the unthinkable happens, not only does his dad become ill, but they don't have the money or insurance to help him recover. Derek sees buying Cassie's dad's company as an opportunity to right the wrongs of his past. What he doesn't realize is that his mom has already moved beyond the past and hopes that he will too.

Cassie is trying to show her father that she is capable of taking over his beloved company – bring it into the 21st century – into the cyber age. When she is passed over because her brother decided to come home, she can't help but be livid. But not only does her father undervalue her worth, he then allows the prodigal son to come home and kick her out of her house. I hated Cassie's family. They were self-centered, narcissistic, and entitled beyond belief. I had a difficult time understanding how she was not a product of her environment. But in the end, she came out the winner and her family had to kind of slither back into their dark bubble.

This is a story about overcoming obstacles that they thought defined them, but came to realize when they chose a different path, they were able to break away.

This is the third in a linked series – and there is another to come, which also sounds good.

The story revolves around two people who may have been worlds apart when they grew up, but through hard work, Derek is now even wealthier than his parents' former employers and family. He also bears a serious grudge against them, as they destroyed his parents' reputation and, in his views, their lives.

When his opportunity to get his revenge presents itself, he finds that Cassie, his teenage crush, is in fact maybe not who he had imagined her to be at all. We get to see them come to terms with their feelings for each other, and the way that they start to trust and open up to each other. This is really enjoyable to read and the story moves very quickly. In addition to the duo, we get to know a bit more about both their mothers, and how their views on events are very different. I think this worked really well at explaining how perception can seriously affect one's views.

This is a well-paced, sexy read, and leads seamlessly into what to anticipate in the next release.

Lee’Anne☆☆☆☆
Carly Phillips has quickly become a go to author – I don’t even need a blurb anymore, her books are always fantastic and this one is no exception!

Cassie Storm’s family comes from money while Derek West’s family works for Cassie’s. When Derek and Cassie are teens they have a crush on one another, but when Cassie’s friends laugh that Derek is nothing but the help, their relationship ends before even beginning. Now, years later, Derek has one thing on his mind. Revenge against the Storm family for firing his parents and leaving them with nothing, and now that Derek is a tech god, revenge is in sight. Cassie is working at her father’s company with hopes of taking over one day – while Derek has hopes to buyout and dismantle the company. When Cassie approaches Derek for an interview, Derek sees it at the perfect opportunity to begin his plan. The only problem is, his feelings for Cassie throw a wrench in the middle of everything.

I really enjoyed the fast pace of this read, from one chapter to the next it’s just a book you won’t want to put down. Derek was one of my favorite Billionaire Bad Boys yet. I can’t wait to see what Carly Phillips releases next!

Mary Jo☆☆☆☆
We've all been there, too tired to sleep, too meh to watch TV, so you open up your Kindle and click on a book and start reading. And reading. And reading. Until it’s 3 a.m. and you've finished the entire book. Yeah, that was me. I loved the first book in this series so I thought I'd read a few chapters of this one, put it down and finish the next night. Yeah, right.

I got invested in Tag and Rachel pretty quickly and didn't want to put the book down, so I didn't. I empathize with Tag and the way he feels about the way the Board treats him. He's rich, good looking, and likes to have a good time, so let's put him in charge of Guest and Restaurant Services. It’s a fluff job for a guy who looks and acts like Tag. Except Tag wants to be taken seriously.

Rachel is still trying to find her way. Hurting from the way ex-boyfriend used and tossed her aside, she's manning the bar at a local pub. She enjoys the work, the interaction with people, and is slowly but surely rebuilding her self-confidence.

When you put Tag and Rachel together? It makes for a compelling read that I couldn't put down.

Once again, I lost sleep because of a Carly Phillips book. I would have lost more, but my Kindle died at Chapter 3... Thankfully, it charged overnight and I was able to pick up where I left off the first thing the next morning.

A man like Lucas Monroe will do that to you, keep you up all night just because you want more. More of his attention, his brains, and especially his touch. That's what the predicament that Maxie finds herself in.

She's been in love with Lucas since high school and only married his brother Keith, after Keith had told her that Lucas was engaged to someone else. Knowing it was a mistake from the beginning, she was determined to make the best of her situation. Until the baby. Until her husband died. Now, she's in one helluva mess and has no one to turn to except Lucas.

Thus begins Lucas' and Maxie's slow journey to find their way to the relationship they were destined to have.

Lee’Anne☆☆☆☆
This was a pretty great read, definitely a 9 on the hot-o-meter!

Lucas and Maxie were best friends growing up and though both had feelings for the other, they never acted on it. Then Maxie winds up married to Keith, Lucas’s brother. Now, years later, Keith is dead and managing to haunt Maxie with his stupid decisions from life. The only person that Maxie has to turn to when she’s left homeless and broke is Lucas, who is happy to finally have the chance to show Maxie what she means to him. Once the two are living together, the chemistry is off the charts and they can’t resist one another.

This is a quick steamy read and it moves at a super-fast pace, which I enjoyed. Though it wasn’t my favorite in the series it’s still definitely worth checking out. It has a strong plotline and the writing, as always with Carly Phillips, is phenomenal!

Side note – I don’t know why this stuck with me so much, but it really bugged me that Maxie bought lingerie for Keith and then wore it for Lucas, it just felt super weird…

I loved this short, steamy read!

Kaden Barnes is quirky businessman who can’t seem to get an assistant to stick around longer than a few days. Then his business partners hire him Lexie Parker. Lexie deals with way more than she should have to, her twin sister and mother both suffer from severe depression and Lexie has deemed herself caretaker of her sister – which is why she really needs to keep this job as an assistant. The attraction between the two is immediate, but Kaden hasn’t had good luck with woman and struggles to trust. The two start to get close until Kaden accidently spills a secret to Lexie, then requires her to sign an NDA ruining the relationship they’d started to develop. Until Kaden sees Lexie with another man and decides to take what he wants.

This is a super fast-paced read that I couldn’t put down and read in one sitting. I love Lexie’s character, she’s a take charge kinda gal and I really enjoyed reading about her. I also love Kaden’s character, he’s a no-nonsense businessman in the office, but outside the office he’s a total sweetheart and I really love the balance. Definitely a well written book and I look forward to reading Carly Phillips next book in this series!
