Recipe for Romance by Ari McKay Blog Tour

Four couples, four different stories – and one spicy Recipe for Romance from author Ari McKay!

Welcome to Montgomery House, Charleston’s finest restaurant. When you walk in the front doors of the stately former mansion, you’ll be surrounded by true Southern charm. Owner Rhys Montgomery will personally welcome you, while the tantalizing scents of Executive Chef Stephen Pierce’s latest culinary masterpiece linger in the air. Enjoy a walk in the gardens or an elegant meal in the dining room, as you watch the love stories play out around you...

Bay Leaves and Bachelors – Clay Turner’s heart was broken by a wealthy man who said he was boring. When rich, outgoing restaurateur Rhys Montgomery sets his sights on the quiet academic, drawn in by Clay’s intelligence and sex appeal, he finds he has an uphill battle to win Clay’s trust. Can Rhys burrow his way into Clay’s heart, or will Clay’s insecurity become a wall between them that not even true love can break down?

Fennel and Forgiveness – Seven years ago, Max Boyd broke Darius Cooper’s heart. Darius wanted a commitment, and Max wanted to focus on his career in Georgia’s television industry. Their ten year difference in age and experience tore them apart, but fate throws them back together when Max arrives at the Montgomery House, where Darius now works. Will Southern Wedding Belles bring them a second chance for love or is Darius’s trust too shattered for Max to heal?

Ginger and Gentlemen – Ian Pierce has lived in his older brother Stephen’s shadow his entire life, always feeling second best. His best friend, Matt Davis, is the only person he trusts to be on his side. Despite being in dire financial straits, Ian wants to refuse Stephen’s request to film an episode of Mouth of the South at Ian’s restaurant, but the bonus money offered in the contract is too much to resist. He accepts without knowing the hefty bonus comes from Matt, not the production company. Will Ian feel betrayed by the one person he trusts above all others when he finds out, or will Matt’s desire to help Ian succeed even at his own financial risk take them from friends to lovers at last?

Cinnamon and Seduction – Chef Stephen Pierce has talent and a determination to succeed that is matched only by his fierce temper and prickly personality. Yet his long-suffering personal assistant, Robert Logan, has carried a torch for Stephen since the day they met. Everyone around Montgomery House knows Robert is in love with Stephen – everyone, that is, except Stephen himself. Can Rhys, Clay, Darius, Max, Ian, and Matt find a way to make Stephen see that Robert is the perfect man for him, or will even Robert’s legendary talent for matchmaking fail to win him the man he loves?

Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆
This is a collection of four stories, which are set in the world of the restaurant at Montgomery House. Its renowned chef Stephen Pierce is, for me, the lynchpin of the stories. He is a fabulously mixed up person, by turns the traditional volatile chef and a true romantic!

Each story concentrates on another couple and culminates with Stephen finally giving himself a chance to accept that he too is allowed to have a romantic relationship and a career. We know very early on who will be his 'one,' and it is fun watching the man completely oblivious to what is going on in his own life when he loves interfering in others. There is some wonderful humour in the stories – and I did find myself laughing out loud on occasion.

Each romance starts with a recipe, and we learn the reason for the recipe as the story unfolds. I really liked that idea and could be tempted to try the cake in particular. There are a good variety of plot lines, which is important when reading four stories close together. I enjoyed each one, although there are some very short timelines before things get very serious. In a way, the fact that the men were generally a bit older meant that it was a more reasoned statement of love, even if the buildup led to a rather quick resolution moving to life partners.

I definitely recommend this collection of romances involving passionate, articulate, and interesting men.

His to Save by Ari McKay Blog Tour

He’s the perfect sub – gorgeous, responsive, and yet aloof, and every Dom at the Candy Cane fantasizes about claiming the sub who calls himself Saiph.

Nick Tierney sees through the facade of utter submission Saiph projects, and his instincts tell him Saiph has some complicated issues. He would love to help Saiph, but his desire seems hopeless in the face of Saiph’s adamant refusal to do a scene with any of the gay male Doms. Then Saiph offers himself up at the Candy Cane’s charity auction, and Nick seizes the opportunity to claim Saiph for himself, if only for a single night.

The chemistry between them is electrifying in its intensity, but Nick also comes away convinced Saiph needs help. Can he convince Saiph to take a chance and let down his guard enough for Nick to discover a way to help him heal? Or will Nick’s rapidly deepening feelings drive Saiph away for good?

This is Saiph and Nick's story. Saiph is living with a cloud of guilt and has taken on the weight of his failed relationship. He goes through the motions but is holding himself back because of fear. He wants to be able to connect again, but due to his history, he's reluctant.

Nick notices Saiph's reluctance and wants to help him. While other doms want to see if they can get Saiph to submit for their own purposes, Nick just wants to see Saiph happy.

I think this had great potential, but it seemed to be missing sections of the story. It jumped through the emotional parts and I wanted to see more of the connection between Nick and Saiph grow rather than be told.

While I think that this was a successful story, I thought it missed something.

His to Serve by Ari McKay

Cameron Ward is an actor from Atlanta. After a stint in New York, he returns home to find work in Georgia’s growing film and TV industry. He lands a lead role in a film, playing a submissive, but he doesn’t know anything about the lifestyle. Wanting to make sure his portrayal is believable, Cameron goes to the Candy Cane Club, a BDSM dungeon, where he meets Anton Albright, a Dom. Cameron loosens up enough to do a scene with Anton, but he discovers a side of himself he’d never suspected. But Cameron had enough difficulty coming out as gay, and he’s not ready to admit he’s a submissive as well.

Dr. Anton Albright has a reputation for being good with new subs. What he’d really like, though, is a sub of his own. Cameron is the kind of man Anton wants, and once Cameron accepts his need to serve – and, especially, to serve Anton – they explore the possibilities of a relationship that will give them both everything they want and need.

But when fame comes calling at Cameron’s door, their private, intimate world is threatened. Anton’s medical practice won’t survive his private life being held up to public display, and Cameron finds it difficult to adjust to extended periods away from his Sir. Can they find a compromise that will make them both happy, or will Cameron’s rising star force him to leave Anton behind?

M/M BDSM Romance

Cameron and Anton were a strange couple. They seem to have almost nothing in common with the exception that they both live the lifestyle. When Cameron wants to know more about an upcoming role he's playing, he signs up for the local BDSM club. Anton is paired with him to give him a taste.

What follows is not really a romance. It's more of a series of missed time spent together and telephone conversations. While I wanted to really like this story, it felt more like friendship than romance. Also, the scenes were almost nonexistent and almost their entire relationship was long distance.

Overall, while they did have some good chemistry, it just missed the mark for me in terms of development and continuity.

Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆
I really enjoyed this short romantic novel. It is fun, sweet, hot, and has a very appropriately happy ending. I think the only thing which surprised me was the continued mentioning of Sean – he seemed like a regular shadow in the story, when really, I expected them to look forward more rather than backwards.

Whether you are into knitting and ballroom dancing or not, you cannot help but be impressed by these two guys and the efforts that they take to learn each other's crafts. I very much enjoyed being a voyeur in the dance studio, the first tango is hot, the second off the charts. Jason showed the level of patience which I think is partly genetic, but also follows on from his knee injury. He certainly turns on its head, the impression of the type of man who might knit!

No Pain, No Gain by Ari McKay Blog Tour

Hunter Callahan loved being a merc. As an explosives expert for Lawson & Greer, he’s dealt with everything from IEDs to rogue nukes. But when a suicide bomber in the form of a seven-year-old boy walks into camp, Hunter learns there are some fates far worse than death.

Payne Gibson recognizes the “thousand yard stare” of the PTSD Hunter refuses to acknowledge, and as a natural caretaker, he can’t resist when his boss, Cade “Hercules” Thornton, asks him to help. Hunter is resistant until their surveillance assignment turns dangerous, and Hunter realizes he’s in danger of losing his career, the only thing in his life that matters to him anymore.

Conventional therapy hasn’t worked, so Payne suggests an unorthodox form of therapy: BDSM. As a Dom, Payne thinks he can help Hunter face the issues he’s been avoiding. Having come to trust Payne and knowing his career is on the line, Hunter agrees to try.

Their relationship as Dom and sub deepens more than either of them expected. Payne knows adding emotions into the mix is dangerous, but he can’t help it when Hunter is both the man and the sub Payne has hoped to find. But Hunter doesn’t feel he deserves love, not when his best friend is dead because of him, leaving behind a wife and child to mourn – and to blame Hunter for their loss.

Payne can help Hunter to stare into the abyss… but what stares back might be more intense than either of them can handle.

Hunter is suffering from PTSD. Despite him knowing this is happening to him, he doesn't really know how to ask for help. He is also suffering from surviving a terrible war situation. He is hired on to a security firm in the interim, before he's allowed to go back to disarming bombs, but while there, he's assigned a partner, Payne. Hunter is immediately put off by having to jump through hoops in order to go back to work. He has a chip on his shoulder that makes him act like a child.

Payne is used to people underestimating him. He isn't a huge guy, but his training and nature make up for his stature. Payne is also a dom and has helped a few fellow teammates with getting past painful situations. Payne has also had the help of a fellow dom when he himself has difficult cases. When he sees how much Hunter is hurting, he suggests that potentially BDSM is a more effective therapy for Hunter.

What follows is their journey to healing, friendship, acceptance, and love. I did think that Hunter and Payne had a fairly quick transformation. I didn't get great chemistry from them, but it was adequate. I did wish to have more of a development in their relationship, but it focused mainly on the healing that Hunter had to go through. But, I did enjoy the story and liked it well enough.

I will start this out by saying I have not read any of the other books in the series; there were a few times they referred to people or things from previous books, but I didn't feel like I was missing anything and enjoyed it as a stand-alone book. I was just coming off from reading a really depressing book and the beginning of this book made me so sad and I was hoping I wouldn't become depressed reading this one, but I didn't. This story was well put together and the characters were amazing. I loved Payne instantly, he was funny, sassy, and adorable. Hunter was damaged but so wonderful when he let down his walls. I loved how Hunter was finally able to let his walls down and ask for help and actually give it a chance to work. This was a beautiful story between Payne and Hunter, and them learning to deal with Hunter and his past and building something amazing together. Lots of hot sexy times too! I just might go back and read the others in this series because I enjoyed this book so much!

This is an engaging read, but I really wanted to slap Dane a couple of times (at least) for being such a pushover. I could understand that Cal fell for him when he saw him in court, but out of court, he just allowed his father to dictate everything. When it turns out that his fiancée is also a very decent human being, he still struggled to stand up for himself.

I did enjoy getting snippets of Erik and Kevin, from the first book in the series, and knowing that they were still super happy together. It also helped explain why Cal was so persistent, in view of the fact that he knew that they had made it work.

A good book to pick up and enjoy on a quiet evening.

Sarah – ☆☆☆☆
This story of a parallel magical universe offers a welcome twist on the usual werewolf romance. Eli is still the typical redneck werewolf, but his fated mate is half-elf Arden.

This is a fun romantic adventure. Arden and Eli chase a pack of demon-possessed werewolves with the help of their friends. There is a little bit of suspense but this remains light and pretty fluffy with some great comic dialogue.

This story combines familiar tropes from both high fantasy and shifter stories. I enjoyed the world building and character development more than the romance in this book. The fated mate storyline doesn’t allow for the romance between Eli and Arden to build and the chemistry between them might be explosive but it lacks subtlety. However, these two do complement each other. Both love the forest and Arden’s gentle magic is balanced by Eli’s brute strength.

The characters in this story are a full mix of magical and supernatural beings – we get drydens, wizards, vampires, elves, demon hunters, and werewolves all mixing together with interesting abilities and character quirks. Arden’s relationships with his supernatural friends are fun and Eli’s relationships with the other werewolves are also interesting.

I enjoyed the genre twists and I’m hoping for more books in this series.
