A
jilted bride. Her brother’s ex-buddy. An affair would be crazy… right?
Chloe Kingston’s life is exactly how she needs it: safe and stable. Right up
until her reliable, low-risk fiancé jilts her on their fairy-tale wedding day.
As she works her way through the reception champagne—and wonders where she’s
going to live—she stumbles into her brother Linc’s ex-best friend.
If only Beckett Daniels were hideous. But he’s not. He’s everything her
erstwhile groom was not. Hot. Sexy. Dangerous. And she’s just buzzed enough to
want all that Greek-god gorgeousness to show her the kind of fun she’s been
missing.
Beck thrives on calculated risks, but taking advantage of Linc’s little sister
isn’t one of them. What he can do is haul her tipsy, tulle-clad, tempting
little butt to the bridal suite to sleep it off. Then move her into his spare
room—which has the satisfying side effect of driving her brother crazy.
They can’t remain platonic roommates for long. Not when the sexual attraction
sizzles out of control. But when tragedy threatens Beck, pain from his past
reminds them both that life doesn’t come without risks… and this time, they're
gambling with their hearts.

Chloe has been left at the altar... She knows that she should be devastated,
hurt, angry, and sad. However, she can really only be relieved. Despite her
family telling her that he wasn't the guy for her, she wanted to make sure that
she didn't end up with someone like her dad. Yes, she knows she chose for the
wrong reasons, but hindsight is 20/20.
Chloe is witty, smart, creative, and sweet. I loved her personality and how she
was able to handle her overprotective family. She was very introspective and a
great friend to everyone around her. I loved how she was able to take risks,
both professionally and personally. You really got to see her grow in this
short story.
Beck has his bucket list and he's sticking to it... for the most part. His past
has defined his present and even though he might not get everything he wants,
he doesn't want to feel crushed by loss ever again. When he stumbles on Chloe
and realizes who she is related to, Beck knows that fireworks might start.
You get to see Beck realize that sometimes, the risk is worth everything. I
really enjoyed watching him wade though his personal drama – trauma to find out
whether or not living was what he wanted or to simply survive.
This was a cute story that will have you laughing and crying. I can't wait to
read the next one!

This is the second book in this series, but if you are a Carly Phillips fan,
you will know many of the key characters and underlying plot twists. I have to
say that made the experience all the richer, but even as a standalone this is a
great read.
Chloe is a really fun character – even if she has just suffered the
embarrassment of being left at the altar. Rather than give her brothers a
chance to be overbearing, she takes up the offer Beck makes, to give her some
space. She is dissatisfied with her work in the family business too, so she
decides to take her honeymoon time to reassess her future plans.
That Beck is her brother’s ex-best friend puts a bit of a spin on the
situation, but for a change she is going to give herself some time for herself.
Beck offers his support because he is a gentleman, but actually he cannot deny
that Chloe has grown up rather wonderfully, and he is definitely tempted by
her.
The timing is not ideal, so they really need to think about acting on their
chemistry… but I think we all know that we just have to enjoy the ride and that
Phillips will deliver!
Another lovely story in the series – highly recommended.
