Lured In by Laura Drewry

The O’Donnell brothers continue to cast their lines and find love in this alluring romance from the bestselling author of Off the Hook (“A must-read for fans of second-chance love stories.”—Lauren Layne).

Seasick. That’s how Jessie Todd feels when her best friend and boss, Finn O’Donnell, tells her that the Buoys will be featured on a popular fishing program—which just so happens to be hosted by a guy she used to date. She’s still friendly with her ex, but her new feelings for Finn are making things... complicated. His life is out on the sea, and though Jessie works at the resort, her paralyzing phobia of water keeps her on land, where she’s safe. To take a shot with Finn, she’ll need to face her fears—and her innermost desires—head-on.

Finn has been nursing a crush on Jess for a long time, so when she suddenly asks for swimming lessons, he dives right in. Holding her shaking hand as she steps into the ocean makes his heart swell—despite the sinking feeling that she’s just doing it to impress that smarmy TV host. Finn doesn’t trust anyone with his bruised and battered heart, but he’ll be forced to lay it all on the line to keep Jess from being the one that got away.

Sarah☆☆☆☆
I liked Jessie in the first book and I loved her here. The woman’s competent, tough exterior hides some seriously damaging past traumas and current insecurities. She is well matched with Finn, a man who has sworn off women and relationships; a man who hides his own insecurities behind a handsome and charming facade.

There were a few moments in this book where Jessie was a little bit too Bridget Jones, plagued by dating anxieties and whinging about her relationship issues. But I did love her role in the O’Donnell family – at the centre but still not quite family. Finn never annoyed me. I loved him cocky and I loved him more when he was bumbling. Together, Finn and Jessie’s relationship is a sweet, slow-burn friends to lover story. There is romance and friendship between them but little real heat.

Once again, the wonderful BC island makes me homesick and the author brings the Pacific wilderness to life beautifully. I really love the O’Donnell brothers and the others on the island and I enjoyed getting to see them interact with guests in this second book. I’m already looking forward to the next book in the series.

This is the second in the series – and excellent! Do read them in order, as they are sequential, but involving another brother! I loved the first book where we met all the main characters who feature here too.

Jessie was, without doubt, the glue that held the whole place together and her hard work had ensured that there was a place for the men to inherit. She is so fiercely loyal and yet so afraid of water, the very reason the whole place exists... sharing her attempts at overcoming that fear, let alone the reason why she feels that way is an amazing experience. Ms. Drewry does a wonderful, if heartbreaking job of describing the incident which led her there, and giving Finn the job of helping Jess revise her view on trust. I wasn't at all sure where the plot was going here, which is always a bonus, and as Sam arrived, and Ashley had strange nocturnal habits... could Finn also learn what trust really means?

The relationships between all the main players is so vivid that I can see them as they function as a team at The Buoys. The propensity of the brothers to use their fists when angry, the women who calm them and ensure the issues are considered, the misunderstandings which turn events on their heads, the cool calm of day moments that resolve said errors...

And let's be honest, the setting, the water, the nature, the whole flavour of the place helps create a book which is engaging, sexy, and unputdownable!
