Wrong to Need You by Alisha Rai

Alisha Rai returns with the second novel in her sizzling Forbidden Hearts series!

He wasn’t supposed to fall in love with his brother’s widow…

Accused of a crime he didn't commit, Jackson Kane fled his home, his name, and his family. Ten years later, he’s come back to town: older, wiser, richer, tougher—and still helpless to turn away the one woman he could never stop loving, even after she married his brother.

Sadia Ahmed can’t deal with the feelings her mysterious former brother-in-law stirs, but she also can’t turn down his offer of help with the cafe she’s inherited. While he heats up her kitchen, she slowly discovers that the boy she adored has grown into a man she’s simply unable to resist.

An affair is unthinkable, but their desire is undeniable. As secrets and lies are stripped away, Sadia and Jackson must decide if they’re strong enough to face the past...and step into a future together.

This is the second book in the series and JUST as brilliant as the first one! I would definitely recommend that you read them in order, as there is an unfolding plot and family connections that need to be appreciated. Ms. Rai does give a good reminder of the salient facts – which I appreciated as it was a little while ago that I read Hate to Want You.

As I mentioned in my review for that book, Ms. Rai has a lovely writing style, which just brings the whole story to life. Sadia could have been my best friend, I knew just how she would react and how she would cope with events as they happened. I loved that she was super responsible, but took advantage of her bartending role to have a sex life as well as being a single mom. Her rationalisation, her lack of ego, and her honesty were wonderful. She was dealt some big blows in this installment, but she showed her strength and was a fabulous champion of the underdogs – Jia and Jackson.

Jackson, and his life since he left town, is shrouded in mystery, yet we get enough detail to paint a lonely, if successful picture. His unerring, unrequited love for Sadia cost him far more than anyone should bear as a young man and, now he is back, he has to decide whether even short term is better than no term. His thoughts about this are brilliantly expressed. As he is a quiet man we get quite a lot of information through his thoughts and deeds, but never does it feel out of place.

Lots of plot issues come closer to being explained, and there are some very moving scenes which I am sure will be explored further in the next book. For now, I am smiling for a new family and the promise of a brighter future for a man much wronged. Thank you again, Ms. Rai, for a lovely book.

As a reader, I could feel the sorrow and angst that Sadia feels, hiding her true self from the world around her. Wanting everyone to believe her life was, is good.

Jackson Kane left his hometown in disgrace after he was accused of burning down a store, a store which was once partly owned by his family. Jackson never liked the spotlight on him, never wanted the attention turned his way, and even after the charges against him were dropped, he still felt as if he were under a microscope.

Now he's back and only for a few weeks. He knows that he hurt people when he left, but it was either leave or lose himself in the whispers and covert looks. Dealing with the fallout of having been gone for ten years is no easy task, especially when some of the people he needs to make amends with are now dead.

As Jackson and Sadia make their way into a new normal, they soon realize that in order to do so, they need to resolve their own issues with the past.
