Dirty Like Me by Jaine Diamond

A gorgeous rock star.
An indecent proposal.
How can a girl resist?

Struggling barista Katie Bloom doesn’t even know who Jesse Mayes is until she inadvertently wins the coveted role of sex kitten in his hot new music video. But by the time she’s in bed with him, she knows his reputation.

Love maker. Heartbreaker.

Making out with a stranger in front of a camera crew isn’t how Katie imagined herself getting over a broken heart, but when Jesse touches her, sparks fly. The sex is fake but the chemistry is real, and soon the steamy video is blazing up the charts.

Then Jesse makes Katie an irresistible offer: act as his girlfriend for six weeks while he promotes his new album. The only catch? Their sizzling make-out sessions will be for the cameras only.

Which is fine with Katie, since she's not about to trust her heart to rock's most legendary lover. Her body? Maybe…

New author/series for me and I'm glad to say I'll be reading more from Diamond and the Dirty crew for sure!

Jesse is in the highly famous rock band, Dirty. But he's branched off on his own and put out his first solo project release. Katie is drifting a bit, she's a barista/artist, but has been sort of lost since her ex left her at the altar two years ago. While dropping in on her best friend at her work as a modeling agent, Katie runs into Jesse and the two have major chemistry. Jesse's manager hires Katie as the girl in his first solo video, even though Katie is far from a model. The two have to do a few sexy scenes and the sparks fly! Jesse decides he'd like to keep Katie around and offers her a "job" of being his fake girlfriend on the six-week tour with the band. Katie takes her job seriously... and Jesse doesn't make that difficult, the man is flirty and fun to be with! The two are more real than they care to think about, both trying to keep the other out of their hearts. I love the back and forth and miscues of people trying not to fall in love, and Dirty had this in spades. When the two FINALLY get together, man, melting pages hot!!! The book then takes a turn into being a lot of smexy without a lot of plot progress. Not necessarily a hardship since I absolutely fell head over heels for Jesse's character. But if gratuitous love scenes turn you off, this might not be for you. I was thankful for a nice wrap up of an ending and am really looking forward to the rest of the band's stories. Found myself highly entertained.

Living your life is hard enough, but having your every move scrutinized has to be painful. Katie's one brief moment of humiliation has left her feeling wary of having any attention turned her way. Hiding in the shadows and drifting through life the past two years is her way of staying safe, of not being hurt again. After all, if one man will dump you at the altar, surely they all will, right?

One happenstance meeting at the agency where her BFF works, turns her life upside down, introducing her to the rock legend Jesse Mayes. Jesse is intrigued by the water-logged woman who came barreling into the office with her equally as wet dog.

Sparks are definitely flying during the shooting of the video for Jesse's new song, so much so that Jesse offers her a job. Come on tour and pretend to be his girlfriend. Katie's scared of putting herself in the spotlight, of being humiliated in public, but with the careful nudging from her friends, she accepts.

Jesse and Katie learn a lot about each other during the tour and realize that they can't keep their hands off each other, so they quit trying. Katie's insecurities are the only things standing in her way of finding happiness and she would rather believe the worst in any situation.

If Katie can learn to have confidence in herself again, she can have the happily ever after that she wants. She only has to learn to trust Jesse and herself.

I can't wait to read more about the Dirty gang.

This is a story about a rock god and the girl next door. Who hasn't fallen in love with a rock god and wondered what it would be like to go on tour and be his girlfriend? Yeah, we all have, or you haven't found the right rock god. For me, and yes, I am telling my age, it was Andy Gibb. I loved him, had the posters on my wall, his records, and all the magazines. Yep, told my age on that one. Anyway, this is Jesse Mayes and Katie Bloom's story and I loved it all.

Jesse and his people were trying to find the right girl to be in his latest music video. He was tired of the models and those that would throw themselves at his feet just to be near him. When he sees Katie, she seems to not know who he is and doesn't go fan-girl crazy. And he doesn't know it, but he wants her. While Brody and Maggie, his people, see the attraction and the way Jesse reacts to her. So they get Katie to be in the video with him. And the sparks fly all around them.

Katie is trying to move on from her past. After over two years, she is still having trouble letting the hurt go. It is hard to forget the pain of heartbreak. So when her BFF tells her she is going to be in a video with Jesse Mayes, rock god, Katie doesn't know who he is. So she checks him out on the internet. Can she go through with the video when she finds out what the video subject is about?

Jesse offers her a lot of money to be his pretend girlfriend, because the fans love the idea of the girl next door catching the eye of the rock god. So Katie is fighting herself internally, she finally accepts the job. All the while knowing it could end in disaster. But maybe not, because Jesse is so sweet to her and he is always so nice. And the PDA is only in public for the fans and camera. He doesn't try to push himself on her behind closed doors. Because that was part of the deal.

But as time passes, Katie finds herself falling for Jesse with each passing day, can she continue to play the part and not lose her heart? Will Jesse come to realize that he has feelings for her too? What if he is too late?

I love a good rock star meets girl next door story and this one was perfect. And I am glad there will be more to this series.

This is the second one by Jaine Diamond for me (first was DEEP, set in the future) and I can't wait for more from both series.

I have to say I was a little surprised by how much I actually liked Dirty Like Me. I hate to say it, but sometimes I have a tendency to judge a book by its cover and I wasn't sure what I was getting myself into. Luckily, I wasn't discouraged by this one because Jaine Diamond had me intrigued after just a few pages! Katie, the main character, was likable, fun, and slightly awkward (in a charming way). As for Jesse, the love interest, he totally won me over and their chemistry was on point! The story seemed well paced and the romance had just the right amount of steamy parts.

When Katie shows up at her best friend's office in a soaking wet T-shirt, she's immediately drawn to Jesse Mayes. A heated moment ends up with her doing a steamy music video with the rock star, Jesse Mayes, who's determined to make his solo project a success. So, when the music video is an overnight success, he proposes that she go on tour with him as his fake girlfriend.

I look forward to seeing what Jaine Diamond does next with the rest of Jesse's band mates! All in all, I'd say a solid 4 stars.
