The Harder He Falls by Lynda Aicher

Expert whitewater-rafting guide Grady Kelley lives for that rush of adrenaline: at work, as the newest employee of a Portland-based outdoor-adventure sports company, and off the river, where liaisons with anonymous men keep him satisfied. Grady prefers no drama and no strings attached, but when tragedy strikes, fate leads him to Micah Swaine. He’s hot, masculine, distracting—and offers the kind of deeper connection Grady has sworn off, no matter how badly he craves it.

Working at a leather bar, Micah meets a lot of guys, but Grady’s different—and he seems to feel the same way. The trouble is, anything beyond casual sex is too risky for Micah. He’s got secrets he doesn’t know how to share, secrets that would make any relationship a battlefield. No man, even one as compassionate as Grady, would stick around for that kind of trouble. And yet, as physical desire melts the walls they’ve put up, Micah and Grady discover that trusting each other is the most exhilarating adventure of all.

3.5 stars
This book had a lot of potential, don’t get me wrong, I liked it, but I didn’t love it. I like Grady and his guilt was over the top, not that I don’t think in real life a person would feel like that, but man, I got tired of reading it over and over again. Too many pity parties. I loved Micah, how could you not? Then the whole thing with Finn in the coma and then he was out and that was that? I thought we would have heard something from him besides he was out and had a long road ahead, maybe that is for another book? Because I thought there was so much potential, I will read the next one in the series, I think the other members of Kick will be good books.

Characters: Well written
Sex: Yes
Religious: No
Would I recommend to others: Yes
More than one book in the series: Yes
Genre: M/M Romance

3.5 stars rounded up to 4 stars because of Micah being such a delight

This is a book full of angst, some seemingly more necessary than others. Grady is burdened by extreme guilt, and where he would normally run away from these feelings, this time he can't. He struggles – a lot, and repeatedly – which can be frustrating, when there are other much worse situations he could be in – just ask Micah.

Micah is a really lovely character, and his stability in the face of his problems is refreshing and ensures that the reader definitely knows they have to keep reading. His patience with Grady in particular is nothing short of a miracle! Together they are a good team, if only Grady could step out of his past, and address his issues with D/s relationships.

I like how the story ended, and there is plenty of potential for this series to grow from strength to strength. I think the mix of BDSM issues and extreme sport is good and offers plenty of potential.
