Dirty Ginger by Stacey Kennedy Blog Tour

True love deserves a second chance... Dirty Ginger by Stacey Kennedy Blog Tour .

From USA Today bestselling author Stacey Kennedy comes a sexy and sweet second-chance romance about a jilted bride who is done with relationships and a down-on-his-luck cowboy who's not about to let her get away again.

True love deserves a second chance...

Everyone at Three Chicks Brewery knows that Amelia Carter has the magic touch when it comes to creating the perfect beer. Her ales have customers singing her praises and begging for more. Unfortunately, when it comes to love, the only magic she seems to have is the cursed kind. After being left at the altar by her ex-fiancé, Amelia gives up on the idea of happily-ever-after to focus on making the Carter family brewery a national success.

Beckett Stone finally started to believe in happily-ever-after the day Amelia's worthless ex bailed on their wedding, finally giving Beckett another chance with his high school sweetheart— the only woman he's ever loved. Unfortunately, Amelia's broken heart is just one of the obstacles Beckett needs to overcome if he wants to win her for good. He knows he's not the man Amelia deserves, particularly with his failed rodeo career, alcoholic father, and a universe that seems to have a twisted sense of humor when it comes to giving Beckett a break.

But when pressure mounts to create several new beers to promote Three Chicks Brewery, Amelia starts to fall apart, and Beckett swoops in with his gentle reassurances and hard work ethic. While the last thing Amelia wants is fall in love again, she can't deny that her heart beats a little faster whenever she sees Beckett walk through the door. Soon, every warm caress and soft whisper of understanding becomes a balm to both of them. As Beckett makes his intentions clear, Amelia must decide if she can overcome her relationship fears and believe in the magic of true love again.

Excerpt

After Amelia arrived back home, the lingering tension of meeting Luka followed her. She skipped the house and went straight for the brewery, needing to figure out a plan on getting it back into shape. With every step she took, she kept waiting for her heart to squeeze tight, missing Luka, to feel more broken, raw, anything, but she only felt glad to keep Beckett from facing jail time. And something about that kept rubbing her wrong. She’d spent nearly three years with Luka, why wasn’t she trying to understand why he ended things so cruelly? Why didn’t she want an explanation from him? Why wasn’t she ready to let him have it and to feel the pain he’d put her through? She amounted this to getting over the worst of her heartbreak in the tropics. But there was this little part of her heart that told her there was a good chance that Luka should have been in her rearview mirror for a long time, and maybe the reason she couldn’t hate him for what he’d done was because, beyond the embarrassment and the sadness that the life she dreamed up was over, maybe the life she thought she had with Luka wasn’t real to begin with.

When she reached for the first tank, she noted the pungent smell in the brewery had improved greatly with the barn doors left open for most of the morning. The dust begrudgingly hadn’t improved. First thing first, the tanks needed cleaning.

She only got one step into the barn, when from behind her, Beckett snapped, “What did you do?”

Whirling around, she found Beckett’s face tight and muscles straining. The one bad thing about small towns was word got around fast, and obviously, he’d learned about her meeting Luka today. Trying to play dumb to avoid the conversation she didn’t want to have, she turned back to her work. “I’m about to clean my tanks,” she said.

His voice tightened. “That is not the answer to my question, and you know it.”

She refused to look back, hearing the anger in his low voice, and not wanting to see it on his face. “I did what had to be done,” she told him. To keep her hands busy, she reached for a cloth and began dusting along the stairs that led up to the top of the tank.

“That payment was mine to make, Amelia, not yours,” he said, his voice barely controlled. “If you had asked me, I would have told you that I rejected his offer to pay him because I don’t want the prick to fix his nose. He should wear that shame for the rest of his life.”

She’d never missed pina coladas on the beach more than she did right now. With a heavy sigh, she turned to face Beckett, spotting the vein in the middle of his head bulging like it would burst any second. Of course, she had expected him to show up, but she wasn’t expecting his anger. But it didn’t matter, she wanted this behind her. For good. “What is bothering you the most here, Beckett: that I paid to fix your problem or that Luka will get his nose fixed?”

Beckett arched an eyebrow. “Do I need to pick one? Can’t both piss me off equally?”

A laugh nearly escaped her, but nothing about any of this was funny. She knew all too well that fate was not in her hands. The death of her parents taught her that. But she didn’t need to sit by and let fate decide everything without fighting back either. “What did you expect me to do?” she countered, glaring at him. “Let you go to jail for me?”

To anyone else, he’d look intimidating with his legs planted wide and his nostrils flaring, but she heard the warmth in his voice behind the tightness as he said, “I expect for you to come and talk to me about it, instead of giving that bastard your money.”

Yeah, well, she could play the intimidating part too. She flatted her lips, placing her hands on her hips. “You never would have agreed to pay him if I’d asked you.”

“You’re damn right I wouldn’t have,” he growled, his face reddening.

Heat flushed through her body as she ground her teeth, turning away from him. God, he’d always been a hard wall that she’d beat her head against. But she realized in this moment that her arguments were so different with Beckett than they were with Luka. Luka got upset when she wouldn’t change something about herself for him. Beckett only ever got upset when he felt she was treated wrongly. Her stomach roiled in awareness that she’d forgotten what it was like to have someone support her. “Well, it’s done and over and now we can all put this behind us and move on.”

“Don’t kid yourself, Amelia. Nothing is behind us,” he said slowly and coldly, flicking her gaze to him. His look was all knowing. “You can’t simply brush this under a rug and hope it all goes away.”

“Why not?” she asked, throwing up in hands in frustration. “Why can’t I pay Luka off and end this entire shitshow? What is the harm in that?”

Beckett’s expression softened. A smidgen. “The harm is that you caved when you shouldn’t have.”

Her chest heaved, breathing become rough and rapid. “I caved to protect you.”

A gust of wind swept up dirt up around him as he crossed his arms, his brows knotting. “I didn’t ask you to do that. If I had wanted to pay the asshole off, I would have fucking paid him.”

“Yeah, right.” She snorted. “You have too much pride for that.”

“This has nothing to do with pride,” he snapped, reaching into his back pocket. “This was my problem. Not yours.” He offered her a check. “I won’t pay him, but I will pay you. Take it.”

“No,” she said, firmly. “My problem, not yours.”

His eyes slowly narrowed into slits. “Amelia.”

Her gut began to boil. She’d had about enough of men today. She tossed the cloth down on the stairs and closed the distance between them, getting into his space. “I get you’re pissed, really I do, but can’t you just say thank you and be done with it?”

A laughter with an edge escaped him. “Do tell me what I should be thanking you for.”

She was pushing him. She knew it. She also wasn’t about to back down. “For making this all go away. For ensuring that you wouldn’t get jail time. For protecting you like you protected me when your fist hit Luka’s face.”

A pause. His gaze flared. “I will never thank you for that.”

She stared him down, and he glared right back for many, many seconds. Years they’d been together, and from those years, she knew that he wouldn’t give, not when it came to protecting someone he cared about. The silence drudged on until she threw her hands up. “Honestly, Beckett, you’ll have to explain this to me. Why are you so mad?”

Intensity simmered on his face as he closed the distance between them, bringing the hard wall of his chest nearly against hers. She felt the heat emanating off him and was shocked when her nipples puckered in response to him being this close. Tingles raced through her all the way to the tips of her toes as he said, tightly, “I’m mad about all of it. I’m mad that you left for college, and I was too much of a fucking mess to go with you. I’m mad that you met that fucker, and he got his damn claws into you. I’m mad that instead of you being blissfully happy, I watched your heart shatter before my eyes.” His chin dipped, bringing his mouth near inches from hers, his warm breath brushing across her face. “I’m mad that instead of that prick suffering, he has your fucking money to fix his stupid face. And I’m mad that I have no way to stop any of it.”

The world narrowed on him with each and every meaningful word that passed his mouth. The affection, the protection, the sheer helplessness, all affected her in a way she never anticipated feeling again. She became tangled in the safe energy he projected. The familiarly of having him close. She took in his simmering eyes with so much emotion in them she could barely breathe. The heat of his body, the strength of him, so close to her. His sculpted lips drew her in, closer and closer, until her hands fisted his T-shirt and her mouth met his.

Beckett stiffened. He did not return the kiss.

At the coldness against her mouth, she gasped and broke away, horror making her blood run cold. “Oh my God, Beckett, I’m so sorry.”

Only silence greeted her. Was he shaking?

His eyebrow slowly arched. “Did you do that to shut me up or because you wanted to kiss me?”

Heat crept over her face. “I don’t know why I did that.” She swallowed deeply, and then began rambling, “No that’s not true. I was just thinking how nice it felt to have someone protecting me and caring about me… and it seemed familiar and safe… and your mouth looked good…”

More silence descended. Until all the shock on Beckett’s face was swept away to reveal raw, unadulterated lust, an expression she hadn’t seen from him for a very long time. It occurred to her then she missed being looked at like that – with fierce hunger. Like no other woman compared to her. Like he didn’t care what hell he had to walk through to reach her, he’d do it time and time again. Like he was just the reckless kid that wanted something and didn’t care what the consequences cost him.

She wanted to be that person she was back then with him. The one who didn’t know what heartbreak felt like. The one who laughed often and believed anything was possible. She swallowed again, swearing her heart was beating loud enough for both of them to hear.

A beat.

Then a gasp ripped from her throat as he grabbed the front of her shirt and yanked her against the hard planes of his body. He did what she didn’t do. He finished the kiss.

A moment later, her back hit the beer tank, and Beckett wasted no time devouring her neck with his hot kisses. She pushed off his cowboy hat to run her hands through his hair, feeling her sane mind unravel at his passion. Her mind shut off and only her body was thinking now. Beckett’s touch was imprinted on her skin, reminding her of teenage freedom and wild affection.

“Ew, my eyes,” Maisie screamed.

Amelia broke away from Beckett with a loud gasp, snapping her eyes open, finding her sisters standing in the barn’s open double doors. Maisie was blinking rapidly, and Clara’s back was ramrod straight. Amelia stared at them for a second before they both turned and walked away.

Beckett chuckled proudly. But Amelia wasn’t laughing at what her sisters had caught her doing two weeks after she was dumped at the altar. “There is something wrong with me,” Amelia muttered. “Seriously, something wrong with me. I can’t believe I just kissed you like that. I’m sorry, Beckett. Please forgive me.”

Right as she raised her shaky hands to cover her face, Beckett grabbed her wrists. “There’s nothing wrong with you,” he stated. The kiss he dropped on her mouth was indecent and the best kiss of her entire life. He gave her a panty-melting smirk. “Just to clarify, I’m not one bit sorry about that kiss.”

When he released her, she wobbled. Sure, back when they dated, Beckett had always known how to make her blush and kiss her just right, but this was a man’s kiss, not the kiss of a kid looking for some fun. This kiss had intent, power, and made her hunger to taste it again.

Before she could even think straight, he was striding past her sisters, giving them a simple hello like what they’d walked in on was everyday business.

Clara whirled around to Amelia, her eyes huge and mouth gaping open. She appeared to try to talk, but nothing was coming out.

Maisie gave a shit-eating grin. “If that’s not a spectacular welcome home, I don’t know what is.”

I really enjoyed Beckett and Amelia's story.

While I didn't love how Amelia's story started, I did love how Beckett was quick to jump to her defense.

The brewery is under some pressure to get some new beers out for the public and Amelia is really wanting to nail the brews down. When Amelia comes back and sees what a mess she's left, she throws herself into work. However, there is a nagging feeling that she has whenever she's around Beckett. When she hears that he might be in trouble for defending her honor, she wants to make sure someone is looking out for Beckett.

Beckett has had a tough go of things. His dad's inability to move on from the past has shaped the kind of man he is. It also shaped his dreams, or lack of dreams. While Beckett loves his job, he knows that he would have led a very different life had tragedy not struck.

As he vows to get Amelia back into his life, he doesn't quite know how to handle more tragedy coming his way. Does he run and hide again? Or can he open himself up to being vulnerable with those who love him?

Amelia wants what her sisters have. Loving someone is hard sometimes, but Amelia knows what she wants and is in a place where she thinks she can get it. Can she fight hard enough for both their hearts?

This was one of my favorite stories in this series. You have a lot going on, but underneath it all is friendship. A fantastic story about love, loss, and forgiveness.

Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆
This is the third book in the series, and if you have read the previous two, I am pretty sure you knew what was coming! I certainly recommend that you do – so that you understand the dynamics between the three sisters and how they have come to the point they are at the beginning of this story.

It was so clear to everyone but Amelia that Luka was wrong for her, and once he does the dirty and leaves their wedding unmarried, but not unmarred, she has the chance to acknowledge her feelings of discontent too. That her first true love, Beckett, stepped up and inflicted harm on Luka in his anger, was surprisingly pleasing, even if the consequences cause problems later.

It was great to be back at the brewery and understand some of the work that goes into creating new versions. I was confused, however, by her coming back from Jamaica and the beer having gone off in her absence. It was a planned holiday, even if not that she went alone – so why had they not already sorted cover for while she was away? Given how meticulous she is, it just didn't ring quite true with me. A silly point, I know, but it was out of character, given how much of her energy she dedicated to her brewery.

I love Beckett's tenacity and singlemindedness, and thankfully it worked, which means that all three sisters are happy, in love, and all pursuing the careers of their dreams, not the obligations that they would have lived to honour their grandparents.

A good, fun, and very sexy read of second-chance love, and family obligations and redemption. Do have a tissue to hand, but even that is a freeing of a life.

Sarah – ☆☆☆☆
After being dumped at the altar, Amelia has to re-evaluate the life she wants for herself. She loves her brewmaster job, her family, and her community. And she might still have feelings for her high school boyfriend.

This is the third book in the Three Chicks Brewery series. There isn’t much to differentiate it from Amelia’s sisters’ books. In fact, I was sure I’d already read parts of this story. With two of the three sisters blissfully coupled-up, this is a little more sugary sweet than the first two books. The brewery is successful. The sisters are happy. Everything is just a little too perfect for me.

Beckett’s storyline adds some much needed conflict to this story. After a family tragedy, he has shelved his own cowboy dreams to take care of his father. Beckett is a little broken, a little insular, and he’s pretty easy to love. But while Beckett faces internal conflict, there is little conflict between him and Amelia. This is insta-love. Their backstory makes it plausible, but their relationship feels disappointingly easy.

I have to also admit that I didn’t love Amelia in her own book. The talented brewmaster seemed more spirited in her sisters’ books than she does here. Her domesticity is irritating. Even more annoying is her cheerful cooking, cleaning, and ‘taking care’ of Beckett. This side of Amelia jars against the other aspects of her character that I want to like. The first two books felt quite modern, but the cozy country community and traditional gender roles in this book feel quite dated. This isn’t my favourite book in the series but most of my reservations are down to personal preferences and I know other readers will enjoy this third book.

Feisty Red by Stacey Kennedy Blog Tour

Feisty Red by Stacey Kennedy Blog Tour. Can he prove to her that a second chance with a cowboy is worth the risk?

From USA Today bestselling author Stacey Kennedy comes a second-chance romance featuring a cowboy hero who needs some serious redeeming, a serious heroine who needs some cowboy lovin', and a mischievous little boy who needs his parents to find their happily-ever-after.

She's prepared for anything... except for the second chance with her cowboy ex she never saw coming.

Clara Carter is the brains behind Three Chicks Brewery. The oldest and most responsible of the Carter sisters, she doesn't have time for anything but taking care of her son and making sure her family's top beer, Foxy Diva, gets into bars across North America. Which means getting the brew in front of Colorado's biggest beer distributor. Unfortunately, that becomes tricky when the man in charge of distribution is none other than Sullivan Kenne, the cowboy who ran out on her seven years ago.

Sullivan's life has been one wrong move after another. First, he tried to prove himself to his bastard father by signing a contract to play professional baseball, a choice Sullivan still regrets. Then he bailed on Clara, the only woman he's ever loved. Seeing her again makes Sullivan determined to right his wrongs. Unfortunately, he wasn't counting on one of those wrongs being a six-year-old son he never knew about.

Reuniting with Clara and meeting his son is a shocking--and amazing--experience. But as much as Sullivan tries to return to his roots and be the stand-up cowboy of Clara's dreams, the reality is, she's having trouble trusting him. Luckily, Sullivan knows the way to Clara's heart, and he'll prove to her that a second chance with a cowboy is worth the risk.

Excerpt

“How long has it been since you’ve done something like this?” she asked.

“Seven years.”

“Seriously? Seven years?”

The light from the fire was impressively bright, revealing the chiseled lines of his cheekbones. “Life is different in Boston,” he explained, gaze on the sky. “Not so quiet. And when we travel for games, we always play in big cities. I don’t get the chance to get out to places where the city lights don’t hide the stars.”

She looked to the sky herself, spotting the milky way. Over the years, many of her old high school friends had moved away with big city dreams. She’d never had those dreams herself, loving small-town life. The old Sullivan she knew would have hated the big city too. She figured she better get to know this Sullivan. “Do you like the big city?” she asked.

“Parts of it,” he said. “Some parts, I don’t.”

She smiled, dropping her head to the side to watch his expression. “Like the bars?”

The side of his mouth curved before he glanced her way, lifting an eyebrow. “You saw the tabloid article, then?”

She nodded. Everyone saw all the articles about him. Every week, on a new issue in the grocery store line. “What’s going on with all of that? The bar fights and stuff?” And, of course, by “stuff,” she totally meant women.

Obviously picking up on that, Sullivan’s mouth quirked up at the corner again. “Does the stuff wear dresses and high heels?”

She sent her gaze to the fire. “It’s none of my business. You don’t have to talk about it. It’s just…”

“Just what?”

She felt his stare. “You were always a one-woman type of guy. What changed?”

“Nothing,” he said in a quiet voice. She dared to look at him then, and his jaw was clenched, tension creasing the lines around his eyes while he watched the fire burn. “The women, they’re a distraction.”

“From?” she pressed, not even sure why she wanted to know the answer so bad.

The heat from the fire became all-encompassing as he drew in the longest, deepest breath then blew it out through his nose. “From the shit that gets heavy in my head.”

She froze, shocked by his answer. Of all the things she had expected him to say, that certainly wasn’t it. For fun. Because I don’t want anything serious. Something like that, not anything deep.

At the silence, he turned his head to the side, watching her closely. “Distractions help me take a break from that.”

“I suppose they would,” she agreed gently. She had seen the guy she loved fade when his mom passed away, but he was lost forever when his father’s abuse started. But right here, right now, she could almost see the guy he’d been when his mother was alive. The good guy, the guy who wouldn’t simply vanish from someone’s life so cruelly. “What about this bar fight that got you suspended?”

“It never should have happened,” he said, looking back to the sky with a heavy sigh. “I’m careful not to drink too much, to always stay in control, but that night, my control slipped.”

She took a guess. “Because of your dad dying?”

“I suspect my dad’s death had something to do with it, yeah.” The shame on his face was more punishment than anyone should endure, and the orange hue from the fire detailed every bit of it. “We were leaving the bar, me and a bunch of teammates, and we came across an asshole fighting with his girlfriend. He was screaming at her, and then he pushed her, and she fell.” He stopped to take a deep breath before continuing. “I didn’t know them. I had no business interfering. But something in my head snapped, and I acted before I even knew what was happening.”

“Wait,” Clara said, trying to understand. “Why didn’t you say that the guy was hurting his girlfriend? I’d say that’s forgivable. You were protecting her.”

“Because I’m no better, Clara,” Sullivan said, dryly. He turned his head then, revealing many years of pain in his eyes. “I put my hands on someone in violence, in rage. That is unforgivable.”

She tried to see it his way, but failed. “No, you were giving the guy a taste of his own medicine. Seriously, Sullivan, people would have sided with you.” She watched him for a moment, looking for a single flicker of agreement with her on his expression. Trying to understand, she asked, “So, instead of explaining that, you took the suspension?”

“That’s right.”

She processed, scenting the piney aroma from the trees hugging the firepit. Nothing felt… right. Something was missing. She sat up straight, scooting to the end of her chair to face him fully. “Why are you home, Sullivan?” she asked.

His brows drew together. “You already know why. To get my head right.”

She considered all this again, but something seemed off. “I know what you told me. A bar fight led to a suspension, and you came home to deal with your past because of the fight. But to avoid all of that, all you had to do was tell the truth about what happened. So, again, why are you here?”

Their gazes held before he looked back at the fire. It seemed like he wasn’t going to answer her, but then she almost wished he hadn’t. “When I sobered up that next day at the police station, I knew I was on my way to becoming him.”

“Your father?”

“Yes,” he said slowly.

Clara’s heart squeezed painfully, her breath all but gone.

Before she could even think up a reply, he added, “Of course, not completely. I still think the guy I hit deserved it. But I realized I became the very thing I hate. I pushed all the bad shit down deep enough that I felt nothing. Just rage. Until it all exploded.” He turned his head again, torment swirling in the depths of his eyes, and said oh-so softly, “My dad did that until there was nothing left of him, until only rage lived in the spots that were once good. So, that’s why I’m here, Clara. To face the shit that makes me feel uncomfortable so that doesn’t happen to me.”

The world seemed to slow as coldness swept across her. Not knowing what to say, she looked to the fire because, just like that, the years vanished. This was the Sullivan she did know, and she, behind all the hurt and worry for Mason’s well-being, loved this man. But he was drowning in the dark misery and desperately wanted a way out, but unable to find it.

“Clara.”

His soft voice pulled her focus to his warm, gentle eyes.

“I’m sorry for leaving you the way I did.” His voice blistered. “I’m sorry I wasn’t strong enough to be what you needed.”

Tears welled in her eyes, and nothing could stop them from rolling down her cheeks. For as long as she could remember, she’d wanted an explanation, an apology. Now she had those things, but only one truth remained: they’d both done their best in a terrible situation that no one deserved. As much as she wanted to blame Sullivan for leaving and breaking her heart, she couldn’t. Her aching heart reached for him. “I’m sorry I wasn’t strong enough to help you.”

Clara is the responsible sister. She is the planner, the one who can get stuff done. So, while she and her sister are working especially hard to open and promote their new brewery, she isn't expecting to see the one person who might make her world tilt.

Sullivan is back in a town he hates and left without looking back. But now that he sees his father's behavior in his own, he knows that it's time to face the past. What he doesn't expect is to find the one woman he left behind hasn't lost any appeal. Rather, she has gained it in spades.

The past that melded these two together also tore them apart. Now, they will have to decide if what they had is worth fighting for. Mason is the one variable that doesn't waver. They will both do whatever it takes to protect Mason.

This is a great second-chance romance story, but it's so much more than that. It's a story of healing, forgiveness, and love. Sullivan and Clara have great chemistry and their history only helps to add to their relationship. It was great to see them work through their pasts, look towards their futures, and heal from their mistakes.

I can't wait to see the next sister's story – the teaser is amazing!

I love the bond between the three sisters at the heart of this series and I love watching them build a seriously cool family business. The men they fall for are pretty great too. Clara’s story is a little bit darker than Maisie’s but it is impossible not to love the confident, capable eldest sister and her beautiful son.

I have to admit that this book really wasn’t what I was expecting. I love that the author refuses to create drama for Clara and Sullivan. It would have been far too easy to play up miscommunication, secrets, and mistrust but instead, Clara and Sullivan work through their problems calmly and quietly – like grownups with their child’s best interests at heart. Sullivan’s childhood nearly destroyed him. Clara understands Sullivan’s struggles and she encourages him as he faces his demons and begins to work through his issues. The book addresses difficult topics but never feels too heavy.

This second book isn’t as playful or as fun as the first but Clara and Sullivan both feel heartbreakingly real. I love the sense of community between the sisters and the people in their small town. There is a glorious sense of place in this series – rural Colorado is celebrated in lush descriptions and the sister’s experiences. I’m already looking forward to Amelia’s story.

Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆
This is the second book in the series, and I would definitely recommend that you read book one, as it is fabulous and gives you the set up at the brewery – and introduces Clara, who is the serious business-minded sister and lead in this lovely second-chance romance.

Whilst the affairs and success of the brewery are part of the story, there is less emphasis than there was when Maisie was running around festivals in the last book. It is a good backdrop though and reminds us of how serious minded Clara is, even if the book is mostly a lot of fun.

I loved how this story acknowledged the past, helped both Clara and her high school sweetheart, unknowing father of her son, and famous baseball player, Sullivan, move forward and give them a chance at a new future. He had so many demons that needed slaying and finally, he got the chance. So many little things which were so vital to their getting a second chance make this book really special. It was the detail, the way that her sisters and their friends rally round and support them both.

Mason is a sweet little boy, without being too cute. He is important, but not the focus of the story, even when being very endearing! Sullivan really dealt rather well with being an instant dad of a 6-year-old, it was pleasant surprise, which certainly helped Clara see that there was a chance of something special between them all.

Very easy writing style, with lots of good humour, reconciliation with the past, a chance to lay some difficult family times away, and look to a much brighter, happier, and loving future. Absolutely perfect reading, thank you, Stacey Kennedy... and the set up for a fantastic new story, which I hope is coming soon!

Sassy Blonde by Stacey Kennedy

From USA Today bestselling author Stacey Kennedy comes a steamy contemporary romance featuring a brooding hero with too much baggage, a spirited heroine who is always up for adventure, and a sexy-as-hell road trip that will change their lives forever.

One truck, one off-limits cowboy, one road trip she'll never forget...

Maisie Carter has always been a free spirit. An artist by nature, she has no idea what she's doing as co-owner of Three Chicks Brewery. But she's determined to prove to her older sisters that she can be an asset to their grandfather's beer legacy. The best way to do that? Make the rounds at Colorado's craft brewery festivals and turn Foxy Diva, their top beer, into an award winner. Unfortunately, after more than one "beer mishap," it becomes clear that she's going to need some help.

Hayes Taylor knows he has a chip on his shoulder, but he has no interest in working through his traumatic past. He just wants to work on his horse farm, alone. The last thing he needs in his life is a woman, especially his dead wife's best friend, the sweet-as-pie Maisie Carter. But she's always brought out his protective instincts, and he can hardly say 'no' when she asks for his help...

As the two embark on the festival tour, beer filled days turn into lust filled nights, and neither Maisie nor Hayes can deny their growing attraction. But Hayes knows love leads to heartbreak.... Can Maisie show him that their love is worth the risk?

Maisie is an amazing woman. She has always been a dreamer and an artist, but when her grandfather dies and leaves his legacy to her and her sisters, Maisie knows that she has to put her own dreams on hold. She can't let her sisters down. Maisie knows that she is known as the screwup and she wants to show her sisters and herself that she can be someone that they can count on. But when another tragedy strikes, Maisie has to lean hard on her cousin and sisters.

Hayes has had a hard road. He absolutely thrived in being a police officer. But when his wife is killed, he hangs up his gun for a cowboy hat and horses instead. Hayes has a way with horses. He somehow knows how to speak to those that others deem lost causes. Hayes is also seeking thrills that put himself in jeopardy.

Maisie and Hayes have shared their grief, seen each other at their worst, and become very close friends. When their friendship starts to morph again, neither really knows what to make of their newfound attraction. But when Maisie needs help, Hayes doesn't hesitate to step in.

You can truly feel the heartbreak and healing throughout this story. It made me feel a large range of emotions throughout. Each character learns about themselves and their family's strength. I cannot wait to see what happens in the next book. These sisters are strong, confident, and there for each other.

This is the story of two friends who find each other after a terrible tragedy. Maisie is an artist who is trying to help her sisters get their family brewery up and running. Hayes is a cop working as a cowboy after the death of his wife.

I really loved Maisie in this book. I love her role as the youngest sister, and I love the way she puts her own dreams on hold to support her sisters. I love that tragedy marks her but doesn’t break her and I love the way she shows up for Hayes. I’m not sure I’m a huge fan of Hayes. There are a few too many times where Hayes leans on Maisie without supporting her in return and I’m not sure he’s ready to be a partner for Maisie at the start of the book.

This is a romance novel but I feel like the romance might be the weakest part of the book. Aside from the relationship between Hayes and Maisie, I kinda loved everything about this book. Maisie and Hayes’ beer festival road trip is fun and I love Maisie’s artistic touches. The relationships between the three sisters are convincing and I love their bonds. I enjoyed the small town setting and the characters that are introduced in this first book.

Despite the tragedy that sets up this story, it is a light, happy read. It’s an entertaining summer romance and I’m looking forward to the next books in the series.

This is the first book in a new series, but Kennedy fans will meet up with some old friends along the way. I found it rather fun – a bit like meeting up with the same group of distant relatives at a wedding, you remember the important parts of their story and are happy to catch up on their progress. Their presence is reassuring as we get to meet this trio of sisters who are taking on their grandfather's last wishes to get their brewery going.

Two sisters are all in, but the youngest, Maisie is an artist, not a brewer or businesswoman. However, it is an all or nothing kind of venture, so she subjugates her wishes to support her sisters. She is also coping with the devastating loss of her best friend. She is not doing well in the brewery, as she tries to help and please her siblings, but other than designing the logos, she is a bit of a walking disaster.

Tasked with attending three up and coming festivals, but having just broken her finger, she asks Hayes, her best friend's widower to help. The two of them have become firm friends and she copes better with admitting to him her failings, than to her sisters. She also has started to feel real closeness to him, but is really not sure how to deal with that. Hayes was totally lost, and only thanks to Maisie's persistent support has he at least felt like he should want to live. I felt that his pain and attitude were well written, and using his work with damaged horses was like a mirror to his soul. He jumps at the chance to return the favour and help Maisie, even if resisting his feelings for her will be tough. His volatility and his calm seem to be at war, and it is difficult to see that he is ready to start a new relationship – but there is no doubt that he is feeling the want to be supportive, loving, and to shine a light on the good in Maisie. It is a very interesting dynamic, and undoubtedly the pull of chemistry is stronger than their reluctance to do the wrong thing.

I thought the story was a strong one, the care and love shown by Maisie to her sisters, and everyone around her, definitely had me wanting the very best outcome for her. I am keen to see how the Brewery goes from strength to strength and the women find their happily ever afters.

USA Today bestselling author Stacey Kennedy has written more than forty romances, including titles in her wildly hot Kinky Spurs, Club Sin, and Filthy Dirty Love series. Her books are about real people with real-life problems, searching for that special thing we call love… in a very sexy way. When she’s not burning up the pages and setting e-readers ablaze, she’s living her happily ever after with her husband and two young children in southwestern Ontario. She’s a firm believer that wine, chocolate, and sinfully sexy books can cure all of life’s problems.
