My Royal Showmance. New York Times Bestselling Author. Lexi Blake.

From New York Times bestselling author Lexi Blake, discover The Park Avenue Promise Series...

Three young women make a pact in high school—
to always be friends and to one day make it big in Manhattan.

My Royal Showmance

Anika Fox knows exactly where she wants to be, and it’s not on the set of a reality TV dating show. She’s working her way up at the production company she works for and she’s close to achieving some of her dreams. The big boss just wants one thing from her. She’s got a potential problem with the director of The King Takes a Bride and she wants Anika to pose as a production assistant and report back.

As the king of a tiny European country, Luca St. Marten knows the world views him as one of the pampered royalty of the world. It couldn’t be further from the truth. His country is hurting and he’s right there on the front lines with his citizens. When he’s asked to do a dating show, his counselors point out that it could bring tourism back to Ralavia. It goes against his every desire, but he agrees.

When one of the contestants drops out at the last minute, Anika finds herself replacing the potential princess. She’s sure she’ll be asked to leave the first night, but Luca keeps picking her again and again. Suddenly she finds herself in the middle of a made-for-TV fantasy, and she’s unsure what’s real and what’s simply reality TV.

“Ani, you’re my best producer. Do this for me and I’ll green-light your movie. The silly one about… What was it about?”

“It’s the story of one of New York’s first woman firefighters. Her life and struggles.” It is my dream project, and it certainly isn’t silly. It’s about empowerment and the fight against discrimination in the workplace.

Jess’s surgically perfected nose wrinkles slightly. “Could she be fighting aliens?”

I growl. It’s an alpha sound I’ve worked on over the years since no one takes a small blonde woman seriously in my business until they catch sight of our three rows of teeth.

Not that I’m like that in my normal life. I’m a regular young woman. I try to be nice and kind to everyone around me, and if they cross me, I will bury them and no cop will look in my anime eyes and think me capable of murder.

Sometimes the patriarchy works in my favor. Not that I want to give up bodily autonomy and equal pay just so I can murder someone a little more easily. But for now I’ll take what I can get.

“Fine.” Jess has her hard negotiator expression on. “What’s the budget?”

I can do it for ten million, but she’s sentencing me to six weeks of dealing with women who think they are going to end up being queen. It will be spray tans and claws, and I will hear the words “the right reasons” so many times. “Fifteen.”

Her eyes narrow like she knows exactly what I’m doing.

I sit and wait. Like she taught me.

Don’t show a minute of your emotions, Ani.

“Fifteen,” she agrees. “And you’ll be fast-tracked. If you get this done, I might even be persuaded to tell publicity they have a slightly larger budget.”

She really wants this.

I wish I could talk to my friends, but I know what’s at the end of this conversation. I won’t be able to explain why I’m taking a crappy assignment. Ivy has her own issues and won’t question it. She’ll be all “rah-rah, girl power,” but Harper likes a mystery, and, even more, she loves to point out when things are going wrong.

Still, I’d like their advice, but I’m not going to get it.

I’m on my own. “I’ll do it.”

Jess smiles like she would have gone to twenty.

She wouldn’t have, but I give her a frown because it’s always good to let the boss think they’re still in control.

“One more thing, dear,” she says, sliding a stack of papers my way.

Yep. There’s the very long and binding nondisclosure agreement. My mouth is going to have to stay closed. But my eyes will be wide open.

Book boyfriends are all I need.

Mary☆☆☆☆
I enjoyed the idea of this book and the first meeting between Anika and Luca. They met in a bar and ended up talking late into the night.

I wasn't crazy about the game show idea (I don't watch those reality-type shows), but I did enjoy the friendships Anika made while she was a contestant.

As I said, I enjoyed the story and if you are into reality TV, this book is for you.

Ruthie☆☆☆☆
This is the second book in the series about three longtime friends who promise to support each other through the vaguaries of life. Ivy met her true love, Heath, in the first book, now it is Anika's turn to be in the spotlight.

Working in production, Anika is ready to move up and get her own works created, but an offer from her mentor of promised funding if she goes and makes sure that a onetime bad boy director has truly reformed, has her going down a pay grade and working on a reality show. These are her own particularly hated genre of TV, but the lure of doing her own project is just too great.

Thanks to NDAs, she cannot reveal much to her two besties, but has one last evening out before she gets sequestered. She leaves them early though, due to meeting a guy she is very attracted to... even if only for one night.

Roll forward and we find ourselves on set with the mystery guy being the king of a small principality in Europe. He needs the TV show funding and publicity to save his country and has agreed to choose a wife from the 13 contestants.

As the crazy of this world is revealed to the reader, and the tunnels of the mansion enable friends to meet and promises to be made, we also have the underlying question of is the director a bad guy. As everything unravels, there is a clever twist and a move from the trip of girlfriends which saves the day.

Implausible to the extent that one can imagine it is true, I was highly entertained by the characters in the royal showmance TV show and behind the scenes.

Anika is a fantastic character. From the very beginning you saw how honest and real she was. She works hard, loves hard, and is loyal. I loved her mind set about her job, family, friends, and life in general.

Luca had amazing reasons for wanting to do this show. He wants his people to succeed and thrive. It’s a curve ball for him when he realizes that his heart could truly get caught in the web of love.

These two together are fun, witty, and lovable. You won’t be disappointed in their story. I think the only thing I wished for was more on the protagonists. I wanted to see them squirm.

The Head That Wears the Crown by Mariah Stewart

Annie discovers a legacy of courageous women… and that no threat is too great to deny the grand duchess’s right to the throne.

A fortysomething woman’s ordinary life takes a royal detour in an engaging novel about embracing a family legacy and stepping up when it matters most by New York Times bestselling author Mariah Stewart.

Annaliese—Annie—Gilberti is a divorced South Philadelphia mother of two with a nine-to-five job when a shocking discovery turns another average day upside down: her late grandmother was the exiled ruler of a small European country, and Annie is next in line to wear the crown and restore the monarchy. The would-be grand duchess of the Grand Duchy of Saint Gilbert has vacation time coming, enough to take a quick trip to check it out.

It’s easy to fall in love with Saint Gilbert’s villagers; its mysteries (why does everyone look decades younger than they claim to be?); her family’s ancestral home, Castle Blanc (so many hidden rooms and passages!); and maybe—just a little—with the dashing Maximilien Belleme, the captain of the castle guard. Never one to walk away from a challenge, Annie steps up, determined to be worthy of the crown that’s been offered. As she, her sisters, and her children work to bring Saint Gilbert into the modern age, Annie discovers a legacy of courageous women and that no threat is too great to deny the grand duchess’s right to the throne.

3.5 stars rounded up

If you read the postscript, you will learn that this was written as an escape from the crazy that we all experienced in 2020/21. I had wondered that before I got to it, because this is a fun fantasy that is designed to take someone out of the everyday and give them a fabulous, crazy daydream.

Annie is a middle-aged single mum who discovers that she is the heir to a small Duchy in Europe which needs her. Her family escaped during WWII and have lived incognito in the USA ever since. Now she needs to take her place in the country and restore its fortunes.

From the fabulous castles, the magical soap, and the divine bodyguard, Max, Annie is gathering her family and friends around her to take on the task of a lifetime.

Great escapist read!

The Royal by Susan Stoker

New York Times Bestselling Author Susan Stoker.

In this modern Cinderella story, New York Times bestselling author Susan Stoker weaves a tale of stepfamilies, stalkers, and a suspenseful, sweeping romance that proves true love can conquer all.

Former military man and member of a royal family Callum Redmon can’t deny his sense of responsibility. So when his cousin’s latest love interest claims to have a stalker, Cal reluctantly meets with the young woman and her mother. He wants to write off the situation as a complete farce—if only his feelings for another member of the household could be as easily dismissed.

Since her father’s death seventeen years ago, Juniper Rose has been at the cruel beck and call of her stepmother and stepsister. Her fantasies of escape mean leaving behind her father’s beloved home, but enough is enough: when Cal offers her a way out sooner rather than later, June takes the leap.

Cal’s home in Maine with his military brothers seems like the safest place to start fresh. But as Cal and June’s fairy-tale romance blossoms into something real, they find that the dangers stalking them may have been real all along.

Cal is a former soldier who loves his new job. Suffering from the effects of his torture and PTSD, Cal isn't someone who thinks that he's going to ever find someone to share his life with. To add to the issues, he's also royalty and while people know that he only shows up when absolutely necessary, they know his bank account is hefty. When his family calls him to help suss out a stalker for a friend of his cousin, Cal reluctantly says that he'll help.

June is a modern day Cinderella. After being taken advantage of by her stepmom and stepsister for most of her life, June is ready to break free. Doing that is scary and when June sees Cal and hears what her stepsister has in store, June shows her rebellion in small ways. I loved it.

June and Cal are fantastic for each other. Each broken or bent in their own way, both will lean on each other to learn what love is. When someone from the past doesn't like their new romance, it will take the love that they have for each other to figure out what's going on and who's trying to destroy their lives.

I really loved this story and the hope that it showed. It was inspirational and truly a great love. I can't wait for more. The only reason for the four stars instead of five is the predictability.

Ruthie☆☆☆☆
This is the second book in the series, and I would recommend that you read them in order, so that you get the full impact of the background of the men living in Newton, Maine.

Cal was the one who suffered the most when they were imprisoned and tortured, due to him being a prince and the most newsworthy. His body is now so disfigured that he cannot even face himself in a mirror, so he has no expectation of ever falling in love and being accepted by a woman. That has not stopped gold diggers trying to gain his attention.

Carla is one such woman, but it is her stepsister, June, who actually attracts his attention – and not just because she affects his heart, but because she is clearly a slave to her stepmother and stepsister. In true Cinderella fashion, the prince saves the day – but has the danger really passed?

Both Cal and June are very attracted to the other, but neither thinks they are worthy – so we do have to deal with quite a lot of denial – but the inner voice musings are a worthwhile price to pay for the goodness and joy of the story. It is impossible not to wish them every happiness!

He definitely wasn't Prince Charming; he was more like the Beast from Beauty and the Beast. Unfit to be seen in normal society. Grumpy. Broken. Cursed.

Mary☆☆☆☆☆
This one started out with a bang, or should I say a camera flash. Princess Juliana grabs baller Rowan in a kiss to pull the press’s attention away from his sister. And what a kiss it was; what started out as a simple kiss turned into something that sizzled between them both. And made Rowan forget about his girlfriend for a moment, until he came back to his senses but by that time the damage was done and the princess was gone.

Now Rowan is laid up after a life-altering accident and his scheming parents are trying to marry him off so he will take his rightful place as a proper royal duke. Rowan wants nothing to do with his father or the heritage that is rightfully his. So he calls upon Juliana to help him with a little plan. But you know the old saying about best intentions?

I loved this story and cannot wait for more; I did not realize that this was the second book and will be reading book one as soon as I can. Juliana and Rowan are made for each other, they are both strong, independent people, but they need each other to survive the thing called royal life.

This story is filled with fun, flirty, intrigue, suspense, evil, scheming, and a love to survive it all. This is a first for me from this author and I recommend it.

Ruthie☆☆☆☆
This is the second in the series, and I would say that you would benefit from reading them in order. If you haven't, then it may take you a little while to understand the sibling dynamics which lead Juliana to be how she is in public, and the rumblings of the royal family issues.

Rowan has had his football career ended by an unlucky tackle. That would be bad enough, but his estranged father and mother have conspired to force him to recover in his father's palace. Having rejected them early in Rowan's life, the duke now wants to get the titles he should bestow upon Rowan sorted out – with a marriage. Suitable choices are being lined up and brought to meet him.

Everything Juliana does is to support her siblings – sometimes wild and crazy things to distract attention. One of those was a passionate kiss with an international footballer called Rowan. They both felt the unexpected sparks, but Rowan had a girlfriend at the time, so it really caused a scandal. In an attempt to appease her family, she is going on a marriage parade weekend at a local palace. Little does she expect to find the very same footballer is the illegitimate son of the duke...

As he calls in a favour, we know that they are going to rediscover that spark... it is just a matter of enjoying it all play out – and that is exactly what I did!

Looking forward to the next installment, as there are underlying royal plots afoot, as well as romance in these highly enjoyable novels.

Royal Lines by RJ Scott & V.L. Locey Release Blitz

Royal Lines. Boston Rebels Book 4. RJ Scott & V.L. Locey. Release Blitz: 20-22 May.

They’re setting fire to the sheets, but a romance between an out and proud hockey star and a closeted playboy prince could end up burning them both.

Marquis Miller might be one of the NHL’s best players, single, wealthy, and open about his sexuality, but he knows his future lies in taking over the reins of the family’s multimillion-dollar company after retirement. Jumping on the family jet, he heads to Europe, tasked with schmoozing a prince into accepting his company’s bid on a significant castle renovation. Assuming he’d be faced with a dusty old monarch well into his dotage, Marquis is stunned to find out that Kaleb is a young, sophisticated, beautiful man with an impressive work ethic, to-die-for eyes, and a certain flair that captures Marquis’s attention.

Dragging the royal palace into the twenty-first century is one battle after another for the King’s youngest son. Juggling renovations, his royal duties, and attempting to reverse his former playboy prince reputation is impossible when no one seems to want to give Kaleb a chance. His chaotic life takes yet another turn when an American hockey player arrives at the castle to discuss a renovation project. Marquis is the antithesis of Kaleb’s newly minted, responsible outlook on life, a jock, a player, willing to take chances. Although the forbidden sex is hot, Kaleb is not ready to turn on his family responsibilities for a pretty smile and a smart mouth.

For both men, family is everything, and romance will always come in second until they open their hearts to love.

Excerpt

He bowed and extended a hand. “Marquis Miller,” he introduced himself, and I took his hand and shook it firmly. He didn’t let go. I didn’t let go. There was something there. A flicker of appreciation in his expression, the tip of his tongue wetting his lower lip, his eyes widening, and I didn’t have to wonder about his appreciation or his inclination.

If he could read my mind, he’d know that he ticked every single one of my boxes, and the image of him lying naked, with all that beautiful dark skin on cool silk sheets, sprawled and waiting for me, had all the blood in my body rushing south, and I was getting hard. The fuck?

“Prince…” I stopped. “I’m Prince Kaleb. Call me Kaleb.”

Finally, he released my hand. I swear if he offered to fuck me, I’d be dropping my pants and leaning over the nearest surface.

“I’m here from Miller & Miller.”

“Uh-huh.” Words failed me, and an answering frown creased between his eyes.

“You were expecting me, I believe. Regarding your castle works?”

It wasn’t the castle I was worried about right now. It was the fact I was getting an inappropriate hard-on at my first sight of this glorious man in what was supposed to be a serious business meeting. I’d never seen such beauty up close, and suddenly, I understood how my sister could meet and fall for someone in the space of a few days. Not that my heart had anything to do with how I felt. I was tired of all the shit, the worries, the stress, and abruptly, I wanted my old university days back when I could sleep with anyone I wanted.

Because, right about now, with everything whirling in my head, the thought of Marquis Miller in my bed and fucking me into tomorrow, well, damn the consequences. Bring it on.

Ruthie☆☆☆☆
This is the fourth book in the series and is a complete departure from all the other books as we find ourselves mostly in a fictional kingdom somewhere in northern Europe. There is a nod to hockey with a charity tournament, but it is more about crumbling castles and the issues faced by royal siblings than sport.

Marquis, the out and most dapper man in the Boston Rebels, is spending the summer trying to get a plumbing contract for his father's business. Little did he expect when he packed his most chic of outfits to impress the client, that he would instantly fall in lust with Prince Kaleb, or that he would get the chance to get close to him. But that is indeed what happens, even if it flies in the face of the Queen's plans for Kaleb to marry for political reasons.

It was fun to be taken away from the often brutal realities of life as a hockey player, and to consider the vagaries of royal duty in a modern world. I did laugh at the adventures which Marquis's hats often had, and the thought of him climbing a mountain in leather-soled hand-made Italian loafers!
