This wait for Darius’ story has been a long one and it was well worth it. Rock Chick Rematch is told from the point of view of Malia, the love of Darius’ life. The prologue hooked me in, by page three of the first chapter, I was desperate for a Rock Chick re-read, and by the end of the first chapter, had tears in my eyes.

Darius and Malia’s romance takes us back to their high school days and we get parts of their lives leading up to the here and now. I soaked up every word of their love story. There are some difficult, heart wrenching moments and I think that made the good times even sweeter. And there was a pretty big surprise I did not see coming. I love that after reading so many of these stories so many times, that I can still be surprised.

Rock Chick Rematch is a novella but there is so much packed into the story. Drama, romance, a little danger, action, and a drop of crazy Rock Chick action and Hot Bunch deliciousness. Malia and Darius’ romance is pretty epic, and I had a blast reading it. It was everything you want in a Rock Chick story.


Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆☆
This is book 9.5 in the Rock Chick series, and it has a timeline of zero to nine point five, as it spans the whole series… which makes me want to go back to the very first book and read them all over again, with my newly acquired knowledge! If you are new to this series, then this should be the door into a whole lot of goodness in your future.

There are some truly mind-blowing twists and turns in this book, which affected me deeply as I read, and made me think about just how I’d react if I were Malia or Darius. We follow them from school to present day, discovering the whys and the hows of their lives, which did not take the expected path, but always stayed somewhat aligned. I’m loathed to say anything more about the actual story, because it all feels like revealing things you need to experience directly. I promise it will be worth it.

We also get some lovely cameos of the Rock Chicks from way back when and right up to date – always good to have a catch up on how everyone is doing.

All in all, a very good read from the very first page. Thank you, Kristen Ashley.


Shelby – ☆☆☆☆☆
This is the story I have been *patiently* waiting for! As a fan of Kristen Ashley's Rock Chick series, I wanted to learn more about Darius. Having said that, anyone can dive into this novella and keep up. The previous books are awesome, and add to this story, but aren't required.

Darius has been such a special character throughout the Rock Chick series. He's real, and gritty, and not the totally good guy... but he always helps when needed. This novella is the backstory I've always hoped for. We learn that he wasn't always the character we were introduced to. Circumstances, bad decisions, and familial loyalty all shaped the man he is.

We meet Malia, who is friends with the Chicks but finds her soulmate love early in life. (I have to say I loved the historical scenes, and the way this story was told.) When the love of her life experiences a tragedy, he doesn't turn to her... instead, he alienates her. Unfortunately, this is just one of many mistakes.

I loved this story!! Malia is a strong, capable, patient, and compassionate woman. She knows what and who she wants, she isn't willing to compromise her values. There was so much emotion, adversity, and love in these pages – I couldn't put it down. Add to that the appearances from all my favorite Rock Chicks and Hot Bunch, this is a five-star read!

A Thousand Sparkling Rhinestone Stars is what this dream ending to the Rock Chick series deserves!

Over the last few months, we at Wicked Reads having been rereading and reviewing the original eight books in the series in readiness for this release. I could not see how it could better than what had already been written, but of course, Ms. Ashley knows her characters and her readers well, and has given us a wonderful new finale. As soon as I got to the end, I just wanted to read it all over again! If you have not read the series before, I would recommend that you save this to last, because even if some of it pre-dates the other books, it would spoil certain plot lines, which would be a pity.

We now have some insight into Marcus and his nature, thanks to this book – he had to be good, as Daisy deserved no less, but formerly he has only really been a shadow. Seeing Daisy as a child, and following her to Smithie's is both heartbreaking and heartwarming. I love the cameos of scenes which we know to be important, and the way that Daisy's goodness shines through. The ending... well it was like going to a family reunion and getting all caught up... intense, delicious, and something which it takes time to mull over and appreciate.

Thank you Ms. Ashley for making an already amazing series absolutely perfect.

Daisy and Marcus' story is emotional, funny, sexy, romantic, full of love. Marcus has to work hard to get past Daisy's defences and when he does, he gets the love of a good woman with an amazing heart. I cried tears of sadness and tears of happiness reading Rock Chick Reawakening. It was exactly what I wanted and I loved every single word.


Angela – ☆☆☆☆☆
To begin, while Rock Chick Reawakening was written as a series prequel because the events in it take place before Rock Chick, I strongly recommend against reading it before the rest of the series. It’s not so much that it can’t be read first, but rather that it will be far more meaningful of a story when read last. Reading Rock Chick Reawakening first is not going to spoil the other books in the series, but there are so many cameos, glimpses at characters we barely knew, and connections made in it, that it will mean more to the reader after they’ve experienced the zaniness of each Rock Chick’s courtship; not to mention, Daisy is her own brand of Rock Chick, so the tone is not quite the same (nor should it have been). As for Rock Chick Reawakening, I was not at all surprised that it was a 5-star read for me – heck, I’ve already read it four times since its release.

Truth be told, Ashley would have had to work hard at writing Marcus and Daisy’s story in such a way that I wouldn’t love it. It’s Daisy and Marcus, after all. Rock Chick fans knew how they got together, but we didn’t really know HOW they got together. Ashley has done a fantastic job in giving us a beautiful love story that not only let us get to know a well-loved character even better than we already did, but she also gave us a better look into Daisy’s enigmatic knight in tarnished armor. And what a fairy tale it was, complete with the saving of the princess, the slaying of the dragon, and the happily ever after in their castle. I absolutely loved learning about how the castle came to be built. I won’t go over the events that transpired in the book because even those that fans are aware of, take on a whole new meaning when experienced from Daisy and Marcus’s points of view. I will say that even though I already knew that Marcus Sloane adored his wife, I had no idea of the depth of his love for her. The dichotomy of Marcus’s character as both a crime lord (of sorts) and as a loving husband who does all in his power to make his wife safe and happy is… ugh, I can’t even find the right word with how inspiring it was. Because Rock Chick Reawakening is a novella, events move rather quickly and I found myself at the end of the book far sooner than I wanted. As for the ending, it made me bawl – every single time I read it. Seeing Daisy experience the heartbreak of being unable to conceive and doing it from her husband’s point of view, and then watching what Marcus does to try to mitigate the daily emotional reminder just hurt. But every Rock Chick gets her happy ending and Ashley crafted the perfect one for Marcus and Daisy.

On an aside, I loved seeing paths cross before connections were made and learning how certain connections were made. If I understood the scene in the park correctly, Daisy crossed paths with Park, the young man we never met in Rock Chick Renegade, and we got our first look at Sniff as well. Even though it hurt her at the time, knowing what she was missing, I couldn’t help but smile at the conversation she overheard while shoe shopping, knowing that one day she would not only have her girl posse, she’d be part of that very girl posse shopping behind her. There are also references to a few side characters who lived up to their problematic reputations – Vince and Dawn. But I think the most meaningful revelation of all for me was seeing why Lee and Vance were so protective of Daisy later on in the series and learning that they, as well as Luke, started Nightingale Investigations out as they intended to run it – protecting those who couldn’t always protect themselves and insuring that their abusers, especially men who abused women, got what they deserved. I adored Rock Chick Reawakening and cannot wait to read it again, yes, again.

PS – This line won’t be in my Amazon review for obvious reasons, but I loved the nice touch of the Southernism of coochie (at least, I’ve only heard it used in the South). I haven’t heard that word since I moved away from home, but it was a perfectly authentic touch to Daisy’s vocabulary.

After the chaos and mayhem of most of our previous Rock Chick romances, the relationship between Ally and Ren felt more mature, probably because the chase and the “will they, won't they” part of their romance does not play out in full review of the Rock Chicks.

The connection Ally feels to Ren is so strong ,and I felt every emotion she did and I cried more than once. Ren is, as Ally calls him, an Italian hot head, and he and Ally clash verbally on a regular basis. But I love that Ren is man enough to admit when he is wrong and to compromise. That alone make him the hottest of the Hot Guy Bunch in my book.

An issue that pops up and causes trouble between Ren and Ally is her choice of career. She has secretly been doing PI work on the side with the help of Darius and Brody. She decides she wants to become a PI full time, which doesn't go down well with Ren, her brothers, and some of the Hot Guy Bunch. The feminist in me was behind Ally all the way as she has to fight to prove that she is just as good at her job as any of Lee's men.

Explosions, kidnappings, crime fighting, love, romance, and a nice dose of hot sex all feature in Rock Chick Revolution. As does our usual group of characters who all feel like part of our life.

Ally and Ren are definitely my favourite Rock Chick couple. Kristen Ashley saved the best for last. Rock Chick Revolution is awesome!

This is the eighth and final book in the series – although Jan 2017 there is a 0.5 book coming out – hurrah! I would definitely recommend that you read these in order – but I would also suggest that you leave a couple of weeks between each – to spread out the goodness, and to digest one story before you get to the next.

This book is a revolution, because it makes us travel along a timeline we've been through already, to reveal just what Ally has been up to on the quiet. It is very effective at bringing the reader up to date on all the storylines, so if it has been a while since you read any Rock Chick, this would catch you up fast. It is a really long book packed full of adventures with our favourite group of people. I wanted it to end a few times, not because I had had enough, but because things looked to be good... but no, Ms. Ashley had a few more dramas and incidents to reveal before the team could be properly happy! Lots of loose ends were tied up, some of which I had guessed, some which were a blast, and a few scenes had me reaching for the tissue box.

All in all, a classic and righteous story. Thank you for the memories Ms. Ashley (and I cannot wait for Rock Chick Reawakening when it hits my Kindle at midnight tonight – all sleep has been cancelled!).

Until now, this was the only Rock Chick book that I had not read more than once. Truth be told, I’m not sure why I haven’t reread Rock Chick Revolution before now because I absolutely adore Ally and love that she and Ren were coupled together, because not only did Ren deserve happiness after Ava’s journey in Rock Chick Revenge, but there was no way that one of the Hot Bunch would ever work for Ally. Nope. Ally needed a man who wasn’t beholden to her brother or scared of him and Ren was just the man for the job. I can’t say that Ashley saved the best for last – especially since Rock Chick Reawakening was released this week – but I can say that she didn’t pull any punches with Ally and her pursuit of happiness… or in the form of it.

As it’s been a couple of years since I read this book, there was a lot of it that I did not remember, so it was almost like I was reading it for the first time. Again, I gotta say that the author made Ally work hard for her happiness. We know that no Rock Chick has an easy time of it when she finds her Hot Guy and Ally is not the first of the ladies to suspect that her man loves another. While that knowledge did not keep her from falling for Ren, it made her keep him at arm’s length as she protected her heart as best she could. Alas, as always happens with every Rock Chick, when the proverbial excrement hit the fan, Ally tried to cut ties with Ren, and while Ren might not be a member of the Hot Bunch, as a hot-blooded Italian American man, he was not down with that plan. Yet even after they worked their way past that obstacle, the author keeps her readers on their toes as a pivotal plot point in the story plays out in such a way that, even as a series fan who knows that the couple always finds their happy ending, I feared it would succeed in driving the final nail in the coffin of their relationship – THAT was how bad the divide between them grew, THAT was how firm Ren was in his refusal to back down, and THAT was how devastated and dejected Ally was by Ren’s response. Even knowing that it would all work out, seeing Ally so subdued broke my heart, but that was only one of many, many times Ashley made me cry.

Each book in the Rock Chick series is packed with action, but Rock Chick Revolution seems even more action-packed than its predecessors. Perhaps it’s because it was meant to be the series finale or perhaps it’s because of the career path Ally has chosen – something we got a glimpse of in the series crossover book, Breathe. Suffice it to say, so much happens that on the reread I kept repeating “Ohmigod!” as a new secret was exposed, a new happiness discovered, a new crime solved, and a new connection made. I am sorry to say that I had forgotten how big of a part Darius had in this book. His character has intrigued me from the beginning and I enjoyed getting a closer look into his life. Truth be told, Ashley did a great job in how she wove Darius into Ally’s story so much because it not only helps lay the foundation for his book in the spin-off series the author has planned for Mace’s agency out in L.A., but it allowed for major character development as Ally grows, develops her skills, and sticks her nose into Darius’s business because she wants him to take his place in the family like he should. There is so much more that goes on in Rock Chick Revolution, stuff that I will not reveal in my review, but nonetheless insured its spot on my reread list and hopefully I’ll get to do so again sooner rather than later.

This is the seventh book in the series – and is much the richer for having read the previous installments. We are reading one every couple of weeks and that is about the perfect gap, as they are good long stories so you are not likely to forget much in that short a time! I am usually tempted to read the next one straightaway, but actually having a little bit of distance often enriches the experience.

Rock Chicks do not come by their men easily, or often believe that they are due the happiness that seems to be theirs for the taking – but never has that been more true than for Sadie. She has had a very dark life, as the daughter of a drug lord, with no mother in her life since she was 11. She has built up walls to try and keep herself protected – but in the process, has really lost who she is, and forgotten who she was.

The beginning of this book is so shocking and does an amazing job of piling guilt on the Nightingale men. Never could I have imagined them falling short, but... wow! Giving up any likelihood of sleep until things improved, I just read and read and read. All the lightness there is had to be brought in to make this story turn out for the better – and even the fact that previous Rock Chicks knew where Sadie's head might be, was not enough to enable her to move forward for real. Employing all the protective layers she can, for them to be torn down by Hector, and sadly rebuilt by him too is agonising.

The twist towards the end which finally opens the curtains and lets her live again is unexpected and a huge relief. I also think that Duke absolutely came into his own in this book. I love that I know them well enough to imagine their reactions and behaviours, that new people get added to the gang and make things ever better and more interesting. Such a big cast could get unwieldy, but we always get to understand their motives and realise how pivotal they are in the plot.

Brilliant writing as ever – combining drama, with fun, with lots of hotness and passion - thank you once again Ms. Ashley.

Every. Single. Time. Rock Chick Regret makes me cry every single time I read it. There is something soul deep about Sadie’s story that just hurts. Sadie is one of those individuals who is surrounded by people, never alone, but completely lonely. She’s not famous. She’s infamous in Denver circles and not because of who she is, but who her father is. Everyone around her makes assumptions based on the role she’s been forced to play. No one truly knows her because she doesn’t know herself. As traumatic and emotional as her second visit to Nightingale Investigations is on that fateful day, it is her statement to Hector – “It only matters if there’s someone to care if you don’t wake up. It’s okay if I don’t wake up because there’s no one to care.” – that breaks my heart every dang time. Heck, I’m actually tearing up as I write this – that’s how strong Sadie’s sense of isolation is and how much it hurts.

Rock Chick Regret is one of my favorite books of Ashley’s to read because Sadie’s story lends itself to the first person point of view so beautifully. As the reader, we are privy to Sadie’s thoughts and get to witness her silent bravery as she enters situations that scare her, donning her emotional armor to protect herself from the judgments of others who assume her to be spoiled, entitled, or unworthy of their time. Because so many people have either shunned her or attempted to use her to get close to her father, her aloofness towards the Rock Chicks and the Hot Bunch is understandable. It’s easy to see why Ralphie and Buddy are the only people she truly trusts in the beginning and why she’s so resistant to the attentions of the Rock Chicks and the Nightingale men. Although she doesn’t agree at the time, Sadie is lucky that the Rock Chicks are far more persistent than she is aloof because by the end of the book, Sadie has what she’s always wanted, yet neither expected nor hoped to wish for… family and friends, and so many of both that she’ll never feel lonely again. And the love of Agent Chavez, oo, Agent Chavez. LOL.

One of the many, many things I love about this novel is that we also get a closer look at Daisy and Marcus. Marcus has been an elusive presence since Daisy’s entrance on the scene in book two – there, but in the shadows where his business operates, providing various levels of assistance when needed, but not getting directly involved too often. Yet when Indy calls Daisy to inform her of Sadie’s rape, we get to see, first-hand, how much the man loves his wife and the lengths to which he has gone and will go to shield her from as much hurt as possible. That Marcus does not hesitate to tell Daisy of the actions he took in the past regarding Sadie, knowing that he will incur her ire and that it’s worth it to insure that Daisy is fully informed, ready and able to do what she does best – love those around her – makes Marcus a “real” character for me. It also makes me that much happier that in only a few weeks, Marcus and Daisy’s story will be released and I cannot wait. I absolutely adore Rock Chick Regret, even if it leaves me red-eyed and nursing a book hangover, and I’m so glad I got to reread it so close to the release of Rock Chick Reawakening. That said, I’m looking forward to rereading the only Rock Chick book I’ve read just once, which is insane as I love Ally, but Rock Chick Revolution, here I come.

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA and nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorise and she hadn't taken her first breath!). Her mother said they took Kristen away, put her Mom back in her room, her mother looked out the window, and Gary was on fire (Dr. King had been assassinated four days before). Kristen's Mom remembered thinking it was the end of the world. Quite the dramatic beginning.

Nothing's changed.

Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana and has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus, she's blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her family was (is) loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write. They all lived together on a very small farm in a small farm town in the heartland. She grew up with Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing, it keeps getting better.
