Sarah☆☆☆☆
This is another fabulous white-knuckle adventure from Melinda Leigh. At book six in the series, supermom Morgan and her colleagues are starting to feel as familiar as family. So, it’s a huge shock when Morgan’s friend, Lincoln’s girlfriend Olivia goes missing at the start of the story. With two weeks to go before their wedding, Morgan and Lance find themselves racing against time to find Olivia before it’s too late.

As always, I love the uneasy balance between Morgan’s personal life and her professional responsibilities. Morgan is a mum with young kids but she’s also a lawyer working with a firm of private investigators. Trying to balance it all is impossible and the compromises and guilt make Morgan feel wonderfully human and relatable. Olivia’s disappearance is both personal and professional for Morgan and there is a desperate feel to this book that makes it even more exciting than others in the series.

However. I don’t think this book has the most coherent plot in the series. I felt like too much of the story was spent with characters running round in circles. I feel like the whodunnit is too obvious – but there’s also too much time spent on potential suspects who don’t actually have anything to do with the kidnapping. It’s an odd mix of complaints and I’m surprised I’m complaining because the plotting in this series has been fantastic until now. I’m hoping things get better again with the next book because this is quickly becoming a favourite series and Morgan is already a favourite leading lady.

This is another great read by Leigh. This time we are searching for Sharp's girlfriend, Olivia. She has figured out that there might be a connection between a couple of different cold case murders. There are implications that someone might have been wrongly imprisoned and implications that someone doesn't want those cases to come to light for fear of being caught.

This is a tale that has so many moving parts. At times, it was somewhat confusing and redundant. I liked how we still were able to see into the main characters' lives – the wedding planning and the family (kids, nanny, and grandfather) were still a major part of the story.

In the search for Olivia, you catch glimpses of a different side of Sharp. It was a side that we normally don't see. He is normally so calm and collected, but with this side, he was frazzled at times.

Overall, this was still a fast-paced story, but the story seemed a little less focused than the previous ones. But I wouldn't be sad if we got to see them continue to solve crimes.

This is a story where Lance and Morgan get caught in the middle of an investigation of one of Lance's students whom he coaches.

Evan's stepfather, a retired sheriff, is found shot, execution style, in his own home. While Lance, Morgan, and Evan's mom know that Evan isn't capable of the violence that was inflicted, the police are less willing to look further than Evan. With Evan missing, his friends not telling the truth, and Tina hiding from her past, events will unravel with careful consideration in a fast-paced, well-planned mystery.

I really enjoyed seeing Lance and Morgan again. They are still as strong as ever and they fight for what they believe is right. We also got to see the family side of their lives and that was reassuring.

Evan is not sure who he can trust and when it comes to his life, he's not willing to take many risks. His mom, a nurse, isn't willing to let her son fall into the troublesome past she left behind. We learn about her past and what could potentially be her downfall.

While this story was very well-developed and thoughtful, it was also somewhat predictable. And while I enjoyed the mystery aspect, I found it a bit anticlimactic. It seemed almost like the big buildup was the story and the ending was just thrown together. Leigh delivers on her story, but it just didn't come together like the previous books.

Sarah☆☆☆☆
I think this is the scariest book in the series yet! This time Morgan and Lance are racing against time to find an injured teenager the Sheriff has accused of murder. The story flashes between Morgan and Lance’s investigation and Evan’s battle to survive as evades the police – and his stepfather’s killer. It’s an exciting read and I enjoyed trying to figure out the clues alongside Morgan and Lance.

There’s always some discordance between Morgan’s role as the mother of three small children and her job chasing down criminals but I feel like there was possibly too much domesticity in this story. I’m still not sure what the storyline about a sick child added to the book. Morgan and Lance are settled as a couple in this story and I was a little sad that there seemed to be very little romance or intimacy between them. I was also a little sad that we don’t see much of Sharp or Lance’s mum in this book.

I really enjoyed the action in this book, but I don’t feel this is the most carefully crafted story in the series. Even after the big reveal at the end, I felt there were pieces of the story that still didn’t fit and other details that came together far too easily. I feel like Evan’s mum, Tina, plays a huge role in the story but her character is never fully developed and her actions/motivations feel inconsistent at times.

I have read all of the books in this series and this one is just as good.

Morgan is again, fighting against a tough situation for her client. Haley woke up covered in blood with no recollection of what happened the previous night. With the mountain of evidence against her, can Morgan find a way to save her?

In this story, we follow on a trail of a messy case. Haley is suffering from amnesia and the protesters are hot on their trail. Throw in friends of the victim holding back, brother of the victim throwing all he's got to stave off his own grief and it's just a mess of accidents, sabotage, and murder.

Morgan and her team pull a thread that starts them on a path that exposes them to a crazy killer. Without giving too much away, let's just say it is much more than it appears. I am loving this series and can't wait for more.

Mary Jo☆☆☆☆
This is a new to me series and I have to admit I read the three previous books over the weekend before, devouring this one in one sitting.

Morgan Dane is a force to be reckoned with but is as fragile as the rest of us. She's learning that she can depend on Lance Kruger, the former police officer turned private investigator for more than just business.

In the fourth installment, Ms. Leigh skillfully intertwines Morgan and Lance's growing romance with the latest case that lands on their doorstep. In this instance, it's an old friend of Sharp's that needs help defending her daughter against a murder rap.

Haley Powell woke up in the bed of her crush, Noah. Feeling out of sorts, she got out of bed to discover that she was covered in blood and that Noah's body was in the backyard. She doesn't remember much from the night before, or how she ended up at Noah's place, it appears to the local police that she's guilty.

Morgan, along with Lance and Sharp, set out to find out what really happened the night that Noah was murdered. Interviews with the witnesses and friends paint a poor picture of Haley but Morgan feels that there is something off about the whole thing. Digging deeper into the muck only brings danger to Morgan and Lance on more than one front.

The closer they get to solving the mystery of the Friday night that changed Haley's life, they must also contend with Morgan's stalker and a firebug out to get Lance.

I thoroughly enjoy this series and can't wait to read more about Morgan and Lance.

Sarah☆☆☆☆☆
This series just keeps getting better! I read this fourth book in a single sitting, refusing to go to sleep until I solved the murder. While I did finally manage to piece together some bits of the whodunnit, I love that the last few twists took me completely by surprise.

This is the kind of murder mystery that makes me really anxious. It starts with an impossible situation and just gets worse. As evidence piles up, it starts to seem like an impossible task for Morgan to prove her client’s innocence. At about the halfway point – right about the time Morgan and her team started to question their own assumptions – I didn’t trust anyone. The author builds tension perfectly in this story – while completely messing with my head.

Beyond the murder mystery, Morgan’s personal life also takes some interesting twists. Morgan’s client is a family friend of Sharp’s and we get to learn more about another dark period in Sharp’s police career. Once again, Morgan balances her family responsibilities with a difficult case – and tries to fit her relationship with Lance into her already complicated life. I love the way Morgan alternates between single mum everywoman moments and badass superhero strength – sometimes on the same page.

There are a few moments at the end that made me fear this might be the last book in the series and I’m really hoping I’m wrong. I’ve come to love the Morgan Dane stories and I’m already eager for the next one.

Bones Don't Lie by Melinda Leigh

Shocking evidence hits close to home for attorney Morgan Dane and PI Lance Kruger as Wall Street Journal bestselling author Melinda Leigh’s acclaimed series continues.

Private investigator Lance Kruger was just a boy when his father vanished twenty-three years ago. Since then he’s lived under the weight of that disappearance—until his father’s car is finally dredged up from the bottom of Grey Lake. It should be a time for closure, except for the skeleton found in the trunk. A missing person case gone cold has become one of murder, and Lance and attorney Morgan Dane must face the deadly past that’s risen to the surface.

For Lance, the investigation yields troubling questions about a man he thought he knew. But memories can play dirty tricks. For Morgan, uncovering each new lie comes with a disquieting fear that someone is out there watching, because someone is killing every witness tied to this decades-old crime. Morgan and Lance follow in the shadows of a relentless killer and walk right into the cross fire.

First off, I have loved all of the books in the series so far. I do believe that you should read them in order, but you wouldn't be completely lost if you didn't.

This is Lance's story. He has always been more of a rough and rugged type and he doesn't talk much. However, he has fallen in love with Morgan and there is no going back from that. Despite his life, he has a mother who has a very fragile sensibility and he is always looking out for her. He knows that his father's disappearance affected her greatly, just as it did him.

Morgan is not without her struggles in this story, but hers are minor in comparison to Lance's in this book. I liked how she was quiet, but a solid support throughout the story. She was never one to back down from a fight and still doesn't in this book.

There is a lot of backstory and people who betrayed those they care about. There is running, hiding, and stalking. Mayhem and murder and eventually, the questions are mostly answered. This was a fast-paced and intriguing story. I don't want to write too much because doing so would give away the awesomeness of the story. I am looking forward to more.

Sarah☆☆☆☆
This time it is Lance’s personal and professional lives colliding when his father’s car is pulled up from the bottom of a local lake. With the support of Morgan and Sharp, Lance starts to reinvestigate his father’s disappearance more than twenty years earlier.

I really loved the twists and turns in this story. Everyone is a suspect as Lance has to confront hard truths about his father’s disappearance. And there are more deaths before Morgan and Lance can solve the case. The story is well paced, and I loved the thrilling final chase scene.

Part of me wanted more character and relationship development in this story. We get glimpses of single mum Morgan’s slightly chaotic home life and there are some great scenes between Lance and his mother. But this series remains more mystery than personal drama. It’s an exciting read and although I didn’t figure out the whodunnit before Lance and Morgan do, the pieces of this story come together in an entirely satisfying conclusion.

This had a lot of moving characters and parts, but everything came together.

You start with the premise that someone is taking women for an unknown reason. It's an obsession and despite the killer's point of view, I found myself pondering their motives and who they were throughout the story. Leigh did a great job at making the killer’s point of view seem very real – even sane at times.

Morgan and Lance are back at their crime fighting ways. This time, they are on the lookout for a person who stalks and kills women – mothers.

You really feel for the husband in this case. I thought that the perspectives from friends and family were realistic and thought that Leigh did a great job a having Morgan and Lance's perspectives help shift and shape the case.

You are definitely guessing until the end and whew, what an ending.

I can't wait for the next one!

Sarah☆☆☆☆
Morgan Dane is a wonderfully original and refreshing character – and I really enjoyed the second book in this series.

Morgan is a widow, a mother to three young children, and she’s a kickass lawyer/PI. I loved the way Morgan’s experiences informed her reaction to her investigation into the disappearance of a young mother. I also enjoyed her relationship with Lance and the team.

From the start, the author alternates between Morgan’s investigation, the bad guy(s)’s thoughts, and the victim’s experience. While this adds tension and suspense, the details of the victim’s experience are graphic and disturbing. There is a horror element to some early scenes and I felt a little bit uncomfortable reading scenes of torture as a form of entertainment.

The central investigation really fell apart for me at the end. Even after tracing the events backwards, I couldn’t quite fit all the pieces together and I was left with questions. There were some exciting scenes, but readers will struggle to figure out the whodunnit on their own and I suspect many readers will be as puzzled by parts of the ending as I was.

Ultimately, I enjoyed the characters and the relationships in this story. There are some exciting and suspenseful scenes, but the mystery didn’t completely work for me.

I really thought this was a great story. Tessa is the girl next door – everyone thinks she's a wonderful young lady who can do no wrong. Nick is the boy next door and people cannot believe he would commit such a heinous crime.

Morgan is just getting back on her feet. She lost her husband to an IED and she is having a difficult time joining the real world again. But, with the help of her father and a woman she took in, she's able to care for her three girls and try to get her career back.

Morgan is living in a very small community, so everyone knows everyone. It makes her taking on Nick's case to prove his innocence that much harder. The community immediately takes Tessa's side. But facts don't lie and when the truth begins to unravel, everyone is shocked and dismayed at what they find.

Lance is very much a behind-the-scenes character in that you really only get to see him develop feelings for Morgan a little at time and he's so shy about it, it feels like it takes forever. Lance wants justice done, no matter what the outcome.

I was disappointed that we didn't get any insight in to the community after the result. I felt that because it was so tight and we were given their immediate reactions throughout, that it was a piece missing for me. However, overall, well done in the mystery part. I can't wait to see what happens in the subsequent stories.
