You do not have to read the previous books to enjoy this book, but if you have, you will be excited to get Johnny's story. Ryan and Johnny meet at a party and hook up, even though Ryan is normally into girls – but Johnny just does it for him. Months later, Johnny moves next door and a casual, regular hookup between Ryan and Johnny begins. Of course, feelings start happening and there are some hiccups and bumps in the road. I just loved Johnny, he is just the sweetest most adorable guy ever. Ryan is really into Johnny but doesn't think Johnny wants more so he never speaks up, which I almost jumped through my Kindle and shook some sense into him!! I will think of Johnny and Ryan every time I see a pair of pink lace panties though.

5 Guilty Pleasure Stars.

Pretty in Pink is the sixth installment of the Housemates series. However, it can be easily read as a standalone with little to no confusion. But I'd suggest reading the series in order, as they are all equally good.

Pretty in Pink had the same vibe as all the other books in the Housemates series. Two college students rooming with many housemates. Ryan and Johnny meet at a party, and Ryan thinks Johnny is a chick at first. Once he realizes his gender assumptions are wrong, Ryan's still fine with it. He has a bucket list of things he wanted to try while in college, and he's not uptight about it.

Ryan has always considered himself straight, aside from that phase in his early teens where we was obsessed with blond, androgynous guys in print ads, but a girlfriend changed all that for him. To Ryan, Johnny looks prettier than those guys in the ads, and he can't stop thinking about him.

Johnny is familiar to the readers who have read the entire series, knowing he has a thing for the straight guys and has the inability to commit.

After a one-off, Johnny and Ryan end up living side-by-side and they cannot avoid each other. Without distance between them, the sparks fly and a no-strings arrangement is made.

Johnny and Ryan are equally closed off emotionally, struggling with how they feel for the other, adding the necessary yet yummy angst into the equation. This is a lusty novella, but it also has a slow-burn feel in the romance department, as it takes a while for the guys to admit the feelings.

Highly recommend this entire series if you're looking for some fun, smoking hot, slightly naughty yet emotionally charged MM romance.


Kris – ☆☆☆☆☆
I instantly loved Johnny's character. He was written to perfection as the player who guarded his heart after his ex left him devastated. He's not interested in relationships – hookups and Grindr work for him. But breaking in a newly discovered bisexual is fun times when Johnny finds Ryan checking him out! Ryan noticed Johnny from afar at a roommate’s party. Thinking it was a woman he was checking out, he was shocked to find that Johnny was exactly what turns him on.

Deciding to check off a bucket list for his uni experience, Ryan decides to act on his attraction for a guy and see what happens. Expecting just a one-off, the two hit the sheets and steam up the pages.

Turning from one-off to fun buddies, they get their hearts involved without trying to and the relationship progress is a great read. Ryan experiencing things he's never tried before with Johnny at the helm gave good page and I finished this installment of Housemates too quick for my liking. Northcote does it again!


Veronica – ☆☆☆
Ryan is instantly attracted to Johnny, and even though he has never been with a guy before, the attraction is so strong he decides to give it a go. Johnny is out, but for Ryan, this is how he discovers that he is bi. When Johnny moves in next door to Ryan they agree to be friends with benefits.

Both guys are at pains to stress that this is just sex and neither one wants anything serious. In the bedroom, the two of them are dynamite and for me, this is the highlight of the book. Sitting back and reading a steamy story after a hard week of work helped me relax.

As hot as these two are, they have a fair bit of awkwardness outside the bedroom, especially as they start developing feelings for each other. I actually struggled to see how they guys would get past this and get their act together, which is a good thing. I like being surprised with a story.

I really enjoyed Pretty in Pink. It is an easy, sexy, and romantic read.


Sarah – ☆☆☆☆☆
This is yet another gloriously sexy romp starring two more of Jay Northcote’s fabulous housemates. As always, the story captures the joy of sexual discovery, the awkward social and emotional skills of most male students, and the wondrous intensity of new adult relationships.

Johnny might be my favourite character yet. Tall, blond, and gorgeous, he is the perfect mix of masculine and feminine and he is unapologetically unique. In contrast, Ryan finds himself surprised by his attraction to Johnny and curiosity has him willing to try gay sex and to tick it off his university bucket list.

Hormones war with emotions as Johnny and Ryan’s ‘no strings’ agreement is eventually threatened by feelings. The relationship causes Ryan to question his sexuality, but his confusion is personal and fairly angst free. As always, there’s a little bit of kink in the story – I love Ryan’s response to Johnny’s lacy knickers.

As always, it’s the writing that makes this story special. The characters in this series are wonderfully convincing university students. The dialogue is perfectly crafted and often laugh out loud funny. The sex is steamy, explicit, and brilliantly playful.

To be honest, I was slightly apprehensive about reading this installment of the Housemates series. I've struggled with transgender storylines in the past, as they usually were on opposite ends of the spectrum. Either just riding on the surface – failing to elicit true human emotion, sometimes vapid or way off base – or informational to the point the story is lost.

Jay Northcote wrote a beautiful transgender story, featuring the perfect mix of emotion and reality, with flawless fluidity of information, without coming off as preachy or textbook. It was a true look inside the mind of a FtM transgender male, with layers of emotion that had me thinking and empathizing.

Ben made a few New Year's resolutions, no longer wanting his fear to hold him back in the friendship and romance department. In walks Sid – and as they say, the rest is just history. The couple had an instant connection, attraction, and a need to get to know one another on a deeper level. The romance was sweet, realistic, and the sex was not only hot, but informational.

With all my raving – because I doubt I'll read another transgender book that delved so deeply and accurately into the complex facets as Starting from Scratch did – why am I only giving a 4-star rating?

Truthfully, I just needed a bit more in the plot department to keep me fully engaged. While I was empathizing and fascinated with the complexity of Ben's character, I needed a bit more than scenes of romantic interludes. While it was a comfort not to have a bunch of miscommunication and unnecessary strife causing me to stress out, I needed a kick of something. What? I have no idea. Just something. Faster pacing, I guess. The book wasn't written just for me, obviously, but that's the reason for the four stars instead of five.

I look forward to whatever Jay Northcote publishes next. I highly recommend this title for anyone interested in transgender romance, especially those like me who were put off a bit by the lack of authenticity in other transgender books or those who have never read a single book with this type of storyline. Most importantly, for those who are transgender – a book that accurately represents the struggles, emotion, and fears.

Finally – a genuinely sexy and fun trans romance. I’m a huge fan of the series, but after reading too many terrible attempts at trans romance recently, I was a bit wary of this one. I shouldn’t have been. This is another wonderful addition to the series.

Ben’s New Year’s resolution is to become more sociable and less shy with new people. He hasn’t had a sexual partner for nearly three years and he knows he needs to be braver. I loved his awkward, tentative confidence with his new body.

Sid was introduced to us in earlier books as Jude’s ex-boyfriend. Here he is a slightly reformed party boy who finds himself shocked by how hard and how quickly he falls for Ben. If Ben is shy and awkward, Sid has confidence for them both. I love the way he puts Ben at ease and patiently waits for Ben to grow comfortable with him. As with each of the books in this series, the magic in this book is the combination of powerful sexual chemistry and a genuine friendship between two characters who feel incredibly real.

This is fun, playful, and very steamy. The characters are believably new adult and their lives will be immediately familiar to anyone who ever lived a student life. I love that Ben’s gender identity doesn’t dominate this story. He is a guy who falls for another guy. He’s a guy who lives with a bunch of other guys. Once a little initial awkwardness is quickly dispelled, we’re back to the raunchy sex we expect from this series. And Jay Northcote writes sex like no one else can.

This series continues to be a wonderful guilty pleasure. I love the housemates and I love catching up with couples from earlier books in each new story. This is the first time I’ve read an ‘easy’ trans romance – one where a trans characters is sexy, interesting, and easily accepted. I really loved it and once again, I’m eagerly awaiting the next book in this series.

This is only the second book in the series that I have read and I am kicking myself for not reading the other books yet. There wasn't one bad thing about this book. I was hooked from the beginning and loved every minute of it. I can't recall ever reading a book dealing with a transgender person, not sure why, I guess I either never looked or came across one before now. I loved Ben and Sid and how they took it kind of slow, but not snail slow. I loved how Sid accepted Ben because he liked him, not for what he had in his pants. Great story and even better characters. Absolutely loved this book!

5 (fans myself) Stars

Previously, I've only read Helping Hand by Jay Northcote, and I hadn't even realized Watching and Wanting was part of a series. Obviously this novel can be read as a standalone without issue, but this woman will be buying books two and three in the series.

Our narrators are two roommates of many in a house. All but one scene happens within these four walls, not that I minded in the least. Shawn is dealing with the meh breakup with his long-distance girlfriend, and ends up saying some very nasty things to his housemates. As a means of forgiveness, Shawn cleans up the place, accidentally walking into Jude's bedroom... to find Jude in a compromising position.

Now, I'm not going to explain what this compromising position is, simply because I am happy I didn't know beforehand, because it was a hot surprise.

Shawn and Jude are very different characters, whom balance each other out perfectly. Shawn may be an athlete, one in which most people would think an alpha male, he longs to be taken care of – to have the stress of choice and responsibility shouldered by someone he trusts. Jude likes being in control, taking over, and being in the lead. They make great friends but even hotter lovers.

Watching and Wanting was filled with tension and heat that kept me on edge as I read. I'm not going to spoil it by saying 'what' drew the pair together, but I was completely titillated the entire time. A nice angsty edge by Shawn struggling to come out as bisexual vs the knee-jerk reaction to lash out when anyone questioned his sexuality.

I'm writing this review while still in heavy book hangover from this one. I really fell for Jude's character! Shawn was perfectly written as the "in the closet, doth protest too much" straight guy.

Shawn is living with a house full of gay and bi guys who are still in uni (love this over the pond term for college), but Shawn has already graduated. He's just sort of floating by on life with a dead-end job and part-time, long-distance, sorta girlfriend. When yet another get together with his girlfriend falls limp, literally, they decide on an amicable break up. Shawn is surrounded by guys in love in his dorm flat and he lashes out at the PDA a little bit too harshly. His flatmates start talking about him and decide it's possible he's latent homosexual or bi. After walking in on his flatmate Jude, while Jude was doing his sex cam web show, Shawn finds himself quite intrigued. Not only with Jude but with guys in general. This coming out bi story was well written, with just the right about of innocence, firsts, miscues, and hurt feelings that make a story perfect. The pages flew by and I finished the book in a day, which is very rare for me. Jude and Shawn burn up the pages with a nice D/s flare added twist that was smoking hot! Off the charts chemistry! I think I need to check out more by Jay Northcote for sure!

I haven’t read any of the previous books in the series but I didn’t feel like I was missing too much that I couldn’t follow along. Shawn and Jude are housemates and things soon change once Shawn walks into Jude’s room without waiting for a response to his knock. The chemistry is hot with Jude and Shawn, and I really liked Jude and how he handled everything, he was so caring with Shawn. This book was a hot, fast read and I am seriously thinking about going back and reading previous books in the series.

This book is deliciously naughty. The housemates of the UK’s most depraved university residence are back and this might be the filthiest book yet. I absolutely loved it. When angst ridden, closet case Shawn walks in on Jude’s live sex show, he finds himself obsessed with his hot roommate. Exhibitionist Jude loves being watched, but he’s torn between his attraction to Shawn and Shawn’s ugly homophobic behaviour.

Shawn’s awkward, fumbling, and conflicted post-adolescent angst is brilliant. Themes of sexual awakening and first time explorations have run through this series from the start and Shawn’s first experiences might be my favourite so far. Jude is a performer – he loves entertaining his fans during his live webcam shows. He is sexy, confident, and uninhibited. Together, when Shawn agrees to join Jude for a live show (just because he’s broke – of course), the chemistry between Shawn and Jude is explosive. With Jude’s help, Shawn’s journey of self-discovery is awkward, naughty, and gloriously filthy.

I’m sure this is marketed as erotica – and it probably should be. But the magic in this series lies in the writing. This is playful, fun erotica with well-developed characters. I love that the author sticks with happy for now (HFN) and refuses to end new adult fiction with unnatural happily ever afters (HEAs). These boys may be having the sex that most uni students can only fantasize about, but the author captures their student lives perfectly. The combination of the playful, the mundane, and the explicit makes this series very special.


Veronica – ☆☆☆☆
Shawn lives in a share house with gay housemates. He is, he thinks, straight. However, when Shawn accidently discovers Jude, one of his housemates, is a cam boy, he is unable to resist the temptation to watch Jude's show. He discovers that he is just as interested in guys as he is girls, but more discoveries await Shawn as he joins Jude in front of the camera.

These two are off the charts hot. The erotic scenes in this book definitely get a 10 out of 10. The story itself was fairly straight forward and really good. There were times that I struggled to like Shawn because he was behaving like a homophobic idiot, but because we get his point of view I was able to forgive him.

If you are looking for a book with a bi-curious guy and lots of amazingly hot sex, you should give this a go.
