A Charm Like You by Sharla Lovelace

Even in a quirky small town like Charmed, Texas, there’s always room for love to take you by surprise…

Gabi Graham might have hit the proverbial rock in rock-bottom. Hitting the single scene after ten years is hard enough. Finding out that her cheating ex-husband and his new barely-legal fiancée are expecting—that’s enough to drive Gabi over the edge and into a neighboring town’s divorce support group. It’s not really her thing to listen to anonymous strangers bash their exes, but at least there are cookies. And a sexy fellow newcomer who ignites her long-dormant libido. Spending a few lustful, post-meeting moments in Hot Guy’s truck can’t hurt. Unless, of course, Hot Guy turns out to be Thatcher Roman—her best friend’s brother and Gabi’s silent business partner.

Thatcher had no idea that the wildflower farm owner he’s been doing business with over email is the nameless woman who’s barreled into his life and his fantasies. He and Gabi have a new venture to run, a sister and best friend in the middle, and enough sparks between them to light up the entire town of Charmed. Given her past, it’s no wonder smart, gorgeous Gabi has trust issues. But maybe what they’ve found is more than just coincidence and chemistry. It might even be the beginning of one sweet, amazing second chance...

Avid Reader – ☆☆☆☆
M/F Romance

Gabi is trying to figure out where she goes from here. With a cheating husband about to get married and have a baby, Gabi thinks she's hit rock bottom. But when even more is thrown her way, she will have to rely on her friends and family to get her through.

Thatcher is known for not being very fun or easy going. When he finds himself at a divorce support group, he doesn't expect to be attracted to anyone. With his constant worrying about his siblings and running the family business, he doesn't think he has time to follow that attraction.

When it turns out that they actually know each other, both have to decide if their attraction is worth it or if business trumps their feelings. When a series of unfortunate events (or fortunate, depending on how you look at it) occurs and the gang has to band together, everyone will have to decide if the strangeness that is their little town is real or just their imagination.

I really enjoyed watching the development and thought process of Gabi and Thatcher. It was a slow burn that just got hotter and hotter. You could really see them processing the situation and their relationship. I also loved how both were shoved out of their comfort zone. I do wish that there was more of a resolution between Gabi and her ex-husband, but I'm not sure what it would be.

This was a very enjoyable read and I loved the quirkiness of the town and its people.

This is the fifth book in the series, and although this was my first introduction to Charmed, I enjoyed it no end. I recognised that there were elements which I had missed by not having read earlier books, but could still really appreciate Gabi and Thatcher's story. I definitely plan on going back to find out the detail in earlier books.

From their first meeting it was clear that there was amazing chemistry between the two of them, and then we are along for the ride. Gabi has a lot of baggage that she is working through, which holds her back. She is also pursuing a new venture which means a lot to her, so extra complications really cause her to be diffident. Thankfully, those around her are supportive, and Thatcher is determined.

A really lovely read, with the beauty of community thanks to the small town, people who care, and a really hot romance – delicious reading, thank you.

I enjoyed this book. Gabi is a strong person who's had more than her fair share of bad luck. Her cheating ex has more than done her wrong, so much so, that she's wary to start a new relationship. Thatcher is hardheaded and knows what he wants, and Gabi is what he wants.

Another great installment in the Charmed in Texas series and I'm hopeful there will be many more to come.

Charmed at First Sight by Sharla Lovelace

In the small town of Charmed, Texas, plenty of folks have found the path to true love. But now two outsiders have arrived to shake things up...

Never one to do things by the book, Micah Roman couldn’t just chalk it up to bridal jitters, or even quietly call off her wedding to her long-time fiancé. No, she has to high-tail it out of the church sporting a dress that cost more than her car, and jump on the back of a smoking-hot stranger’s motorcycle. Her knight in all-black is headed to a town called Charmed, so that’s where she’ll go and try to lay low. Except their appearance raises plenty of eyebrows... and a sudden, intense attraction she has no business exploring.

Who knew picking up a damsel in distress would lead to lust at first sight? Leo McKane headed to Charmed prepared to deal with some family secrets—including his status as long-lost brother. This runaway bride is an unexpected distraction his set agenda and loner lifestyle doesn’t include. She’s everywhere he turns, getting under his skin with her quirky, headstrong ways and eyes he can’t forget. But when Micah’s jilted ex comes looking for her and opens up his shady past, Leo knows he has a choice to make.

They both do.

Run to safer ground again? Or take a leap that their untrusting hearts are wary to take.

These two outsiders struggle to find themselves and a place for themselves in the quaint little town of Charmed. Leo left town a long time ago in an effort to keep trouble away from his little brother. Now that he's back, he's having to come to terms that leaving his family protect them did just the opposite.

Micah is literally the runaway bride. Standing in the anteroom just before she was to walk down the aisle, she realizes that she can't spend the rest of her life playing a role she doesn't like. Yes, she wants to be a wife and mother someday, but only if the man in question respects her for who she is, not what he wants her to become.

I found that Leo's reasons for returning now weren't fully explored and could have used a little more explanation. Micah's reasons for giving up on her marriage before it began are fully believable. Many times, I think women find themselves agreeing to a relationship in order to please others, not that it necessarily fulfills a need within them. Micah's method may not have pleased her family, but it gave her the time she needed to figure out exactly who she wants to be.

I enjoyed this story and can't wait to see what happens next in Charmed.

Once a Charmer by Sharla Lovelace

Charmed, Texas, is a close-knit small town where people’s dreams of love can come true. That’s not to say that some people aren’t still waiting, and dreaming...

By day, Allie Greene stays busy with her family diner, and keeping tabs on her teenage daughter. What’s really exhausting Allie, however, are the nights. Not that she minds Bash Anderson unbuttoning her naughty desires—if only in her dreams. But what was he doing there at all? He’s her best friend, and a father figure to her girl. Talk about awkward. Talk about OMG-heat-and-fireworks that are flipping fifteen years of normal upside down. And now, when Allie needs him as a friend more than ever, logic doesn’t stand a chance against his lips and irresistible deep-blue eyes...

Sure, Bash has fantasized about Allie, but there’s no way he’d act on it. She and her daughter are the closest thing to family he’s ever known. With the exception of one drunken moment fifteen years ago, he and Allie have stayed on this side of the line—until that impulsive kiss of hers knocked him on his butt. That’s just one hurdle. Not only does Allie need Bash’s help to save her diner, but his apiary is in trouble, too. To stir the pot further, they’ve been roped into vying for the town’s Honey King and Queen contest—a sweet event that’s making them closer than ever. Something’s bound to come undone. Bash just hopes it’s not the friendship he’s worked so hard to hold on to.

While I enjoyed this book, I felt that in the end, the book was rushed. Ninety percent led up to Allie figuring out that life is worth living and being with Bash wouldn't bring the world crashing down on her.

I live in Small Town America and I relate to the feelings that Allie has and not wanting to give people reason to talk about her or Angel. What I find hard to believe is that she doesn't date at all since she had her daughter.

Small towns forgive, people forget and, just like in the book, we take care of our own.

Lucky Charmed by Sharla Lovelace

Charmed, Texas, is as warm and welcoming as it sounds. But even in a small town, when it comes to love, sometimes you’ve got to take the bitter with the sweet...

Carmen Frost hates honey. And bees. And in her hometown of Charmed, Texas, which practically invented the stuff, that’s a problem. The good news is that the summer Honey Festival is finally over. Even better, so is the annual Lucky Hart carnival, a road show that made off with her dreams years ago—including the boy she loved. Now she’s got a divorce behind her, and a successful law career in front of her, but in a tiny town, big memories die hard. Or they don’t die at all—as Carmen discovers when she runs into an all too familiar pair of eyes—older, wiser, and just as heart-melting as ever...

Sully Hart has had enough of the nomad lifestyle. Travelling with his father’s carnival gave him adventures, but it cost him much more. Now he’s home to stay, contracted to create an entertainment complex in Charmed. He wants roots, a house with a yard and all the mundane pleasures that go with it. But the girl he loved has become a woman who still wants freedom. Can she still want him? It seems he and Carmen are at each other’s throats one minute—and on each other’s lips the next. Someone’s gotta give...

Carmen Frost is stuck in a rut. And bitter. Bitter about how life in a small town never changes, how everyone knows your business, and most importantly, how the man of her dreams left her without a word.

Fifteen years later, she still hears the whispers about how "that carnie boy" ruined her life, her reputation, and her marriage. No one, it seems, can let it go. Not even her.

Sully is back in town, the owner and major investor in a new boardwalk and attraction in the little town known for its honey. Not that Carmen cares. Except when she spies him with another woman.

This book hit home in a lot of ways, small town, small minds, and everyone seeming to know what’s best for you. What could have been explored more were the reasons why Carmen didn't leave when she had the chance, why she stayed.

A Charmed Little Lie by Sharla Lovelace Blog Tour

Charmed, Texas... quaint, quirky, and when it comes to romance, there's no place quite as enchanting.

Lanie Barrett didn't mean to lie. Spinning a story of a joyous marriage to make a dying woman happy is forgivable, isn't it? Lanie thinks so, especially since her beloved Aunt Ruby would have been heartbroken to know the truth of her niece's sadly loveless, short-of-sparkling existence. Trouble is, according to the will, Ruby didn't quite buy Lanie's tale. And to inherit the only house Lanie ever really considered a home, she'll have to bring her "husband" back to Charmed for three whole months--or watch Aunt Ruby's cozy nest go to her weasel cousin, who will sell it to a condo developer.

Nick McKane is out of work, out of luck, and the spitting image of the man Lanie described. He needs money for his daughter's art school tuition, and Lanie needs a convenient spouse. It's a match made... well, not quite in heaven, but for a temporary arrangement, it couldn't be better. Except the longer Lanie and Nick spend as husband and wife, the more the connection between them begins to seem real. Maybe this modern fairy tale really could come true...

The cake-eating contest was first, and I was playing for the bank. It was my favorite one of course.

“I’m a cook,” Nick teased, sitting next to me. “I’ve got this.”

“Just because you can make a cake doesn’t mean you can eat it,” I said, rolling my head on my shoulders and popping my knuckles. The four-layer cake in front of me was daunting. I formed a strategy, one slice at a time.

“Big words, Mrs. McKane,” he said.

Calling me that sent goosebumps trickling down my spine.

Why?

It wasn’t the first time. But something about sitting next to my husband in a goofy town festival cake-eating contest suddenly felt so domestic. So normal and real.

Focus, Lanie.

The bell rang, and we were off. We each had knives, but those of us with experience skipped that time consuming task. Hands worked just fine, and going for big bites with minimum chewing was optimal. The winner was Berty Carson from the barber shop, an elderly man who obviously had been practicing judging by the girth around his waist.

Still, I had three-fourths of my cake gone compared to Nick’s little over half.

“What was that, Mr. McKane?” I said, putting my cake-covered hand to my ear. “Was that the sound of losing?”

Nick grabbed my hand and stuck one of my fingers in his mouth, sucking the cake off with his tongue. Everything stopped for me for a moment, the world going on tilt, and he winked as he licked his lips.

“What was that, Mrs. McKane?” he said. “The sound of shock?”

Oh, what a dirty, dirty boy. He didn’t play fair. I would so remember that.

A cute story about a girl who weaves a complex lie to ease her aunt's mind about her being sad and lonely as she is dying. What she didn't plan on was her aunt being able to see through the lie and leaving instructions in her will that she must live with her "husband" for three months in order to receive the house she grew up in.

In an effort to save face and to keep her greedy cousins from getting what should be hers, Lanie Barrett begs a complete stranger to play house with her for three months. Nick McKane agrees because his daughter has been accepted to a fancy art college and he wants to be able to send her there.

It’s a little more complicated than that, but even with all the twists and turns, it’s a cute romance that worked for me.
